Kind of expensive for average grill food. I've heard that it's a trendy spot so I thought I would check it out. My dining companion and I split a cheeseburger and ordered extra fries, one cup of coffee and one shake. The bill was $40!
If you ever find yourself in Galena with kids and a hankering for some eats, Durty Gurt's is where you park your appetite. We ordered two cheeseburger kids meals with fries for our little humans (who were thrilled, and honestly, so were we sneaking a fry or two) and the San Francisco Patty Melt--which is chicken-based and satisfying enough to hit the spot. The kids' meals were solid: burgers and fries that were tasty and well-sized for little appetites. The San Francisco Patty Melt was enjoyable--juicy chicken, melty cheese, toasted bread, and a reliably comforting choice. Durty Gurt's has a fun, lively vibe that makes you want to cheer when your food arrives, and the playful, colorful décor--bright signs, quirky wall art, and whimsical little touches everywhere--makes the whole place feel like a cheerful, slightly wacky diner full of personality.
The ambiance is very nice and funny for the kids. My boys had the burgers they were decent, make sure to ask for seasoned fries as regular fries have nothing at all they are indeed plain. It was nice that they had a gluten free bun for another person at our table. The soups were amazing. The Ruben was ok, it is hard to beat the Rubens that come out of Omaha, NE so I probably should have stuck to a burger cause my standards for Rubens are pretty high. The service was great and you can tell they are use to being busy and pushing tables through as they got food out really quick. It is a good place for a family but if you are a foodie maybe check someplace else out or stick to the burgers.
Located in downtown Galena,this is a casual restaurant offering a good selection of appetizers,salads,burgers and melts. They had nice gluten free options as well. Even tho they are known for their burgers,we decided on the gluten free cheezy beef and the breaded grouper platter. My wife loved the beef sandwich. The grouper was flaky and not oily at all. They also offer a nice selection of specialty cocktails and Boozy Shakes Service was quick and efficient. A decent place to try after a day of walking around Galena.
Durty Gurt's is located in the heart of a touristy area, which usually means shitty over-priced food. Not here! Our food was great and the service was excellent! Price was reasonable too. Our waitress was fun and a really hard worker. (Extra credit for calling me "Honey" a few times!) The restaurant is also a lot of fun. Full of funny pictures and quotes. After we finished eating we actually walked around the restaurant just to read the walls. Totally happy with our experience and meal.
Service, food, and decor were all top tier. The burger was not greasy at all and the flavor was great. I got the sweet potato fries and enjoyed them. My husband got a bbq burger and seasoned fries and loved it. The burgers are huge, we definitely could have split one. The only bad thing was I didn't get one of their amazing looking shakes because I was stuffed.
I never really believe reviewers when they write 'This was the best hamburger I've ever had.' It always sounds like exaggeration. I now find myself, in all seriousness, saying "That was the best hamburger I've ever had." No exaggeration! I got the Tombstone burger. I guess it is called the Tombstone burger because of all of the unhealthy but oh so delicious toppings. Two slices of cheese, bacon, grilled onions and 2 fried onion rings. The bun was soft and lightly toasted. My husband got the Sloppy Joe. One of his most favorite sandwiches which is seldom offered at restaurants. He like it. The seasoned fries that we both got were terrific. Service was fast and friendly. It is a fun place to visit because you can read all of the signs with funny sayings on them. Prices were fair. My only complaint is their positioning of 3 toilets at the entrance lobby. There was some funny saying on the wall above them but I don't remember what it was. The thing is that as I'm entering a restaurant I don't want to be greeted by toilets and then have pictures flash in my mind about what goes on in toilets. Gross. In spite of what I consider an inappropriate first impression at the entry way, we will return to Durty Gurty's the next time we visit Galena.
What a fabulous little dinner!! The staff was so friendly and helpful!! The service was so quick! We only waited 15 for a table for 2 and maybe 15-20 minutes for our food order! The food was delicious. The waitress recommended their sea food chowder and oh man it did not disappoint!! They were so quick with refills, and checking in on us! The restaurant was clean and well managed! 10/10 we will definitely go again when we are in Galena! Don't pass up this gem!
We were hungry but didn't want anything fancy and Durty Gurt's vibe was just what we didn't know we wanted . Our server was fantastic. She anticipated our every need and made great suggestions. They have gluten friendly items and gluten free buns too. The food came out super fast and was so delicious. Portions are huge and prices are very reasonable. Don't miss this fun joint when on Main Street in Galena.
It's pretty much bar food, fried and some fresh salads. The fries we ok and the food did have served fast. The server was awesome and the atmosphere was just ok.
Nice owner, Durty Gurt's is a burger joint with sandwiches and shakes. Fun ambiance with toilets as seats in the front area. Logo is a funny pic of an old lady. Diner style inside with table seating. Cool spot for taking pics. Food was good, interesting spot overall to check out if you are in the area.
Been stopping here to eat almost every week for two years, usually twice a week for lunch and it's still the best place to eat in Galena. If you're looking for friendly atmosphere, fast service, and fun environment...don't pass this place and not stop! The bartender is outstanding, most welcoming women you'll find around and the host, waitresses, owner and the dude that makes the shakes is the BEST crew you'll find in town to check ALL the boxes! If you like shakes, Very Berry is the best
Eclectic restaurant decor in a tiny touristy town. It's kind of fun. We had a couple of different people stop by our table to check on us, so the staff was fast and friendly. For an appetizer, we had the Mac and cheese bites. They were not the same size or shape, which to me usually means they were homemade. They were good, and they brought out ran stressing to dip them in. My brother got the shut the front door burger with regular fries. He has had it before. And that's all he ever orders when he comes here, so he loves it. It doesn't come with any sauce on it, so I think it was a little dry. So, if you order one, get some ranch dressing to put on it, or dip it in. He had water. I had the Santa Fe, burger with spiced fries, and I usually get thousand island dressing for my fries. It was a good burger, and I wish they were closer to where I lived. I had fountain root beer which was somewhat disappointing if you know the atmosphere in Galena. Overall, a great experience with great food. Most definitely will return.

Checked out this funny and quirky restaurant in Galena. Durty Gurt's is a long time local favorite with drinks and food that's better than it looks. It may be kind of dumpy inside but the place is also full of crazy personality. A lot of the basics along with a few fancier items. The prices are pretty okay for the portions and quality. Basically if you're a group it will probably be waiting for a table so go early. It's one of the popular places to go around here. The last time coming here we got seats at the bar and there wasn't any waiting. Has a lot of cool memorabilia to look at. There's a bunch of funny signs on the walls. It's about $7 for a basic cocktail. The Fuzzy Navel is one of the classics you can get. It's about $13 for a burger and fries. They have a veggie burger that can substitute. We each got one of these. I got it with the toppings of the Basic Burger. These come with the usual toppings like lettuce, mayonnaise which I left off, onions, pickles, and tomatoes. She got it with the toppings of the Olive Burger. These come with cheddar, lettuce, mayonnaise, olives, onions, Swiss, and tomatoes. For sure it gets busy. It's located on Main at Franklin. Came here at 11:30 on a Sunday. A group of 6 got seated immediately. Ordered the chicken tender basket with sweet potato fries. It was good. They had the Prosecco with made me happy. The waitress was amazing. She realized the soda was low on syrup before she handed us our drinks and went to get new ones. read more

I know this place (and this whole town) is a tourist destination, but goodness help me, I do like Durty Gurt's. The food is good and there is plenty of variety in the menu. They have regular and boozy shakes. The service is quick and the place is bright and clean. But the biggest differentiator is that there is a little more sass and attitude here compared to many of the other stores/restaurant down Main street. The prices are a touch on the high side, but it is very much in line with the rest of restaurants in this town. Next time, I'll try to get a pic of the toilet by the door. read more
A little late on my review, but cannot miss the opportunity to provide my feedback. What a fun place to dine! The facility is clean and relatively spacious. The service is wonderful. The food is outstanding! Our party of 4 enjoyed a couple of sandwiches. The "Shut the Front Door" which was interesting, but incredibly delicious as it was served on two glazed donuts instead of the normal hamburger bun. The others had the "Woo! Wap! The Bam!" burger. We all chose fries or sweet potato fries with our sandwiches. There is a set of three toilets in the front where three of us sat and the other took a photo. read more

Super cute place With good quality food & nice portions But prices are a bit high for burgers & fries We didn't try a shake on a hot day, I wish I would've. I had the Chicago Patty melt Wife had the bbq pork sandwich & we both had seasoned fries Both sandwiches were high quality & large. I wish the melt had more onions. Seasoned fries were ok & good portion Bbq came with Cole slaw & a pickle which is nice, but slaw just tasted like Mayo Bill for a lunch of 2 sandwiches w/sodas was over $50 after tip. If I was just reviewing the food, I would've gave it 4 stars read more
Located on the Main St in Galena, is a good spot with a wide variety of selections. We were able to be seated immediately at the last available table. Our server was attentive and very accommodating. I had the the sloppy joe sandwich. The sandwich was reminiscent of sloppy joe's from my childhood. It was served with coleslaw and sweet potato waffle fries. The sloppy joe was topped with a sauce , that was so good. The waffle fries were not too crispy and perfect. My husband had one of their burgers topped with onion rings. The portions were large and the prices reasonable. By the time we left there was a line out the door. If in Galena, a good choice for some decent food . read more
Holy cow! I would not have guessed the food would have been as good as it is. I say that because a toilet greets you when you walk in the door, wow! The burger I got was the next level and the vanilla milkshake was as good as any I've ever had When I came in the restaurant, the owner was at the register and was quite knowledgeable about what was gluten-free and was totally unto with anyone that might be celiac. I would highly recommend this place and I intend to come back here. read more

I saw the name on YELP! and I knew I had to try this place and we are SOOOOO glad we did! It reminds me of Ed Debevics, with the snarky signs. I had a Mounds shake: coconut and chocolate. YYYYUUUUUMMM!! I had the BBQ ribs special and it was very good! My husband has a patty melt that looked fantastic! Gooey gooey cheeses running out of it. I bought a T shirt from this place! This is such a fun and great spot for a burger. The decorations are definitely on the unique side and I am allllll about it! Toilet seats everywhere and normally I'd be weirded out but this was actually really fun. We had Tara as our server and she was awesome. She's very friendly, gave recommendations that we took and loved, provided fast service even with a full house. It was super busy and with great reason! Everything was phenomenal. My fiancé and I had the cheese curds to start and they were cooked perfectly. Crispy outside, the batter is light and not over powering and whatever cheese they use was fantastic. We both got burgers and loved them. The fries were meh but other than that everything was done to perfection. read more

Come early and put your name in cuase unless you're here on a Monday morning this place is always packed and there's a wait. Started with a boozy butterscotch shake and the root beer float both were rich and heavy. The Rueben with cheese is excellent with just enough sauerkraut. You can barely open your mouth wide enough to bite the mushroom or the tombstone burger. The BBQ in tombstone makes a difference. The Cheesy beef with dip is also good. Prices and portions more than fair with a hopping staff that defines hospitality. If you're a vegetarian don't bother, otherwise great burger spot. read more

We stopped in for lunch and had a great time. There are hilarious posters and quotes everywhere. Very colorful and welcoming place. The food was amazing. I ordered a Mounds shake (chocolate and coconut) and it was the best milkshake I've ever had. We both ordered The Durty Little Piggy (cheeseburger topped with pulled pork). The bbq sauce had a great flavor, the pork was tender, and the burger was cooked perfectly. Even the fries were delicious. We will definitely return next time we're in the area! read more

Review Visit: September 24th, 2021 Stop in at Durty Gurt's for a durty good time. A group of us found ourselves up in Galena for a weekend of fun and celebrating a friend that is getting married soon. We arrived in the early evening and after checking in to our hotel, needed to fill our bellies with some local food. While wandering around what I assume was the downtown area, we stumbled upon the only quiet place to eat. Just what we were looking for! Durty Gurt's has a very distinct diner vibe to it that can be summed up in one word. Sassy. This isn't the kind of place that insults you or gives you attitude. This place just has a lot of sassy and sarcastic stuff hanging all over the walls. Since it was a quiet Friday night, we had half the place to our self. Most of the other guests were located in the back half of the dining area, which was split off from our area by a wall and possibly a step down (it was a long and crazy weekend, so some details are fuzzy). Our waitress was very attentive and amazing. Once we found out we were there for a bachelorette party, she got extra fun and chatty with us, which made the experience even more fun. Their claim-to-fame is having 'the best burger in Galena', so I took that as a challenge and ordered the Santa Fe Burger with sweet potato fries. My secret for sweet potato fries is to dip them in honey mustard, which thankfully they had on-hand when I asked. Another friend ordered The Inferno, which, as a fellow hot food lover, I was interested in hearing how it tasted and how much it burned. We enjoyed our beers and liquor until our food came out, which wasn't too long considering how quiet it was inside. All of our food was delicious but after not eating since around noon and being on a few hours of sleep, I started chomping away instantly. During my time in Galena, this was the only place I got a burger but I can say Durty Gurt's deserves the title of best burger in Galena. This thing was a whopper of tasty and delicious. Also, this may be the first time I had avocado on a burger and was leery on how it would turn out but I am glad I didn't ask for it to be excluded. The sweet potato fries dipped in honey mustard was icing on the proverbial cake. Delicious meal all around. Oh, my friend said The Inferno was like 'licking satan's balls' or something along those lines. He wanted to get some of the Inferno sauce to go, he liked the burn that much. If you find yourself in Galena and are looking for a durty time, check out Durty Gurt's. You won't be disappointed. read more
