Hello, Happy Lemon! Once again, I make it to a new business roughly a month after it opens to avoid long lines. This visit was at around 7 on a Sunday night. Please note I've never heard of the chain before, despite it being seemingly well known. In my defense, there are A LOT of boba chains out there. This little store is tucked into the corner strip just off of H-mart, next to San Dong. You can't miss it with the yellow lettering and happy looking lemon. They have a very small seating area that was moved off to one corner and cordoned off, but they do have 2 wooden benches to sit on while waiting for your order. I walked in with my 4 year old and I was lucky to be the only one, as some people had just left. I needed that time to study their menu - and I still didn't do it as thoroughly as I'd like, but I guess that's where Visit Number Two would come into play. I was joined by more patrons shortly after my entrance. First off, the employees were awesome. I was greeted as soon as they saw me and went above and beyond to answer my question: "Is it really sweet at full sugar?" They ended up offering to make my drink at a lower percentage of sweetness and have me taste it and add as needed. In fact, as soon as my order was ready, the person who made my drink asked me to try them right there to let him know if any changes needed to be made. I ended up getting: - Oreo Milk Tea: this is basically a milk tea with Oreo crumbs on it that I ordered for my kid who loves Oreos. I was under the impression it would have the cheese foam on top but I didn't spot or taste that... and the label noted just the Oreo milk tea, oh well. It was late, so no need for extra calories. First off, you can really taste the tea; I love it when milk teas actually taste like milk and tea. Not that sweet at all (they made it at 25% sugar and after tasting it, kept it... though my husband later expressed his preference for more sugar, so I'll likely go with 50% next time)... a perfect amount. Sadly, I couldn't really detect the Oreos unless I had crumbs in my mouthful. Still decent, though! My nugget didn't like this one that much... understandably because it wasn't that sweet, haha. - Ube Milk Tea with Taro Boba: this was also made with 25% sugar that I kept, but it was sweeter, likely due to the cream I saw coating the cup. YUM. This was an overall winner. The taro balls were a great textural addition, even though they were a little stiff due to the cold temperature of the drink. The ingredients used tasted real (I really do dislike the powder some places use for flavors) which is a major plus. The neat thing was that there were big screens that displayed their menu (they also had fruit teas, etc) BUT one was dedicated to orders. You get a lemon token with your order number and your order (and number) are displayed on the screen along with its status. I liked that touch a lot. The drinks are roughly $6 each so they do add up, but I like how they make sure you're happy with what you get. It is a decent sized cup so I didn't feel cheated. I had a positive first visit and am fairly pleased! With my second visit, I'll hopefully have a better idea of their offerings and can bump the rating up. Excellent customer service and the place was clean. Drinks were good. Face masks were worn by everyone I saw (about 5 people came after me). High recommended based on this visit. UPDATE TO THE OREO MILK TEA: There was cheese foam! Lol... at the very end. It was a really nice touch to the drink, but there should have been more to be proportional. I guess that's why it came with a lid you could sip from. Even so, although I accidentally left it for the end, I still felt there could be more. Still not enough Oreo taste though. read more

So happy this is finally here! Recently moved her from California and to me Houston was lacking a real solid boba shop. Most boba I have had here is mediocre and I am very happy happy lemon is here now. So many great drink options that anyone will find something they love. I usually get mango matcha or fresh lemon honey green tea - B3. Mango matcha has been on point but one of the times I got the B3 it did not taste right like it usually does in Cali. Lines have not been too crazy when I have gone. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a better boba spot then you are used to! read more

I'm not usually the biggest boba fan since the time it takes me to drink a $6 drink is too little. This place completely changed my mind though. What an amazing blend of flavors in this drink with the ube and taro. Most places I've been to only have taro and that's usually what I get, but this drink was on another level. The cream was so yummy and the ube flavor was also top notch. I will say that the taro balls are chewy, so every sip you have to chew. That sounds kinda disgusting, but the taro balls are also packed with flavor. I've had another drink with mashed taro in it that just tasted like liquid mashed potatoes, but Happy Lemon does an amazing job. Next time, I'd like to try one of the cheese drinks since they are super known for it! I would happily spend $6+ for boba here :) read more

Strong 4.5/5 stars. BOGO grand opening weekend. Ube with puff cream and taro balls @ 75% sweetness. Ube flavors came through nicely. Puff cream, not sure what the flavor profile is but does add a smoothness to the drink. My suggestion is - if u add puff cream, lower the sweetness level. The taro balls were chewy and stayed chewy the next day when I couldn't finish my drink. Nice drink - might order if craving ube. Komquat Lemon Tea with Lychee jelly @ 50% sweetness. The lychee jelly adds sweetness so should have done 25% instead. The drink was citrus tangy but not memorable. I'd skip this. Honey lemon green tea @ 50% sweetness. It was salty, sour and sweet perfection. My favorite drink! The honey flavor was faint though. Milk tea with Salt cheese @ 75%. Sweetness was ok. Drink was not memorable. The tea flavor was indistinguishable from other boba joints. You can skip this one. read more

I came during their grand opening weekend. The line was moving fairly quick. I ordered the Mango Lemon Slushy with Boba. It was a refreshing drink and perfectly tart and sweet with the mango and lemon bits in the drink. Customer service is amazing!! I would come back to try their other drinks. Happy lemon is a definite go to if you want some refreshing drinks to escape the Houston heat. They mostly have lemon based drinks where they use fresh in their drinks. Ordered the ube milk tea and mango lemon slush. The Ube was perfect level of sweetness and wasn't super overpowering. Came with foam and some taro chewy balls. The taro balls had a nice chew to it, but wasn't very sweet. Felt like the drink would taste better with sweetened boba. The mango lemon slush was a good balance of sweet and tart. Another boba place in Chinatown? Ya bet I'd be there, lol! I finally had rhe chance to wait in line and order some drinks here today. They had a pretty good crowd tonight 30' before closing, but I do think we could have moved quicker/felt less cramped if the space was quicker or they had more staff to speed through the orders. I was able to try 2 drinks tonight: - C4 - Freshly Squeezed Lemon Honey Green Tea: it was alright, tasted a little bit better than Lipton Lemon Iced Tea. My cousin thought it was a bit too sour/strong for him, but another cousin and I thought the sweetness was alright (50% sweet). But $6+tax for this drink? I'll pass. - S2 - Fresh Dragon Fruit with Lychee Juice and Salted Cheese: cheese cream was reallly on point - I liked that! But otherwise the drink was pretty weak. It felt diluted/watered down to me, and I couldn't taste the lychee as much either. I think Starbucks' dragon fruit drink felt more dragon-fruity than this... Tl;dr: Another so-so boba place in Chinatown, IMO. I couldn't justify the price for the subpar drinks. I may come back to try their other items in a few more weeks to give a final verdict! read more

I was excited to try their unique lemon drinks. I tried the lemon mango slushie which comes with lychee jelly and it was really tasty! Tart lemon but the mango sweetness balanced it out. The regular lemon slushie was a little bit too tart, so I like the one mixed with mango for more balance. We also got an Oreo bubble waffle which was soft, sweet, and fun to eat! I would definitely come back to try other drinks they offer. The staff were super friendly! read more

Soooo incredibly happy they've opened this location. My favorite is the Lemon Yakult with Aloe, and I like it with 25% sugar since the yakult already gives it enough sweetness. Plenty of parking in the lot. No seating areas inside! read more

Came here for a drink after getting some lunch. I was looking for something refreshing and happy lemon sounded like the spot to try. There isn't any seating in the store so it's more of an order and go. The girl at the counter was super helpful with her recommendations. We got the jasmine green tea with the salted cheese and the dragon fruit lemonade slush with lychee jelly. The jasmine green tea was delicious! The tea was fragrant and the cheese paired with it perfectly. Also it was the perfect amount of sweetness. The dragonfruit lemonade was definitely refreshing and tart. I enjoyed that it was a slush rather than a drink cause i was able to sip it slowly rather I normally down my drink. came with my sister. very cute place, but expect some wait since its the new hot thing. got the honey lemon green tea: they do no joke around with their lemons. i got it regular sweet and it was SOUR! one of the employees informed me they use real lemon smashed together for the freshness. so be warn. i think i asked for more sugar after the drink was made, and the staff was nice enough to accommodate, making sure it was too my liking and i really appreciate that! my sister got D5, milk tea w/their salted foam. 10/10 would recommend. the tea was def. coming through. and the salted foam was amazing!! would come back for it again! Location: This is more of a to-go spot, than somewhere you could hang out. I didn't notice any indoor seating (there is a table or two outside, but in the Texas heat, I wouldn't advise it) and the location is small and very busy. Tea: I ordered a black tea with a whole lemon blended into it and it was SOO good. Very tart but just the right amount of sweet. Refreshing and delicious on a hot summer day! This place is probably my favorite bubble tea spot in Houston thus far. I ordered the Okianawa Fresh Milk Tea + Bubbles + Salted Cheese Foam (apparently they are known for it). They also had a Tiramisu Foam if you'd like. It was basically like Tiger Milk Tea upon presentation and tasted similar. Bubbles have the right texture and sweetness. The foam was as good as it gets. What's great about this place that I haven't ever experienced is that the lids have a small hole in addition to the one where you puncture with the straw so that you can drink from it to enjoy the Foam mixed in with the Tea. That is very helpful because sometimes the foam accumulates at the bottom. If I ever get another chance, I would definitely try one of the Lemon drinks hence their name! read more

The location is right next to the Sandong restaurant and shares a parking lot with 4-5 other stores. I came on a Sunday after lunch and there wasn't a problem with parking. The store is really small and there are no tables to sit at. Very clearly, this is a take away type of store. This will likely dissuade me from coming to this spot very often as there isn't a place for me to sit down and spend time with people, which is most often the reason I visit boba shops. For my visit, I had the mango boba green tea, and overall, it wasn't really impressive. Others in my party had the blended whole lemon drinks, and I think that's what this brand is known for, so that would be a better option to try. If I were to come back, I'll go for one of those. The drinks were more on the pricer side compared to other competing stores in the area, sitting at around $6/drink (not sure if this is just due to inflation or otherwise). Once you've ordered, you'll be handed a numbered token which you can exchange for your drink order once your number is called. Not sure I'm a fan of this in the covid-era with so many people touching the tokens, but not really a big deal. Overall, a potentially good spot for a takeaway drink if you like their signature items such as the whole lemon drinks. Otherwise, I'd go to another spot. Personally, I can't think of a time when I'd come to this place over another similar store in the area in the future. read more

You can adjust the sugar and ice level. They also have the waffles that are made when ordered, add the cream to go with it and it's so delicious. Went to happy lemon for their opening a little while ago, my friends had discovered it in San Francisco and were so excited that a location opened in Houston. It definitely did not disappoint!! Everyone's boba was really good. I got the milk tea with puff cream, and it was really yummy. The boba pearls were chewy and tasted very fresh. No exaggeration, Happy Lemon is my #1 favorite boba/tea chain by far. Unfortunately, the only way I could get a fix was if I was in California. There were other places in the country, but nowhere near the amount in the West (Best) coast. So, when the news came out that Houston was going to get 2 (now 3!) stores, of course I had to be there. There was the initial fear that it would be different, but fortunately, it's just as good as California's. Most people would order their drink with boba, and while HL's boba is also fantastic, you must order their specialty, Salted Cheese, on its own. They even have directions on how to enjoy it best (drink at a 45-degree angle, etc). My go-to is their A2 or A8, black or milk tea with the salted cheese, without boba, and often time with extra salted cheese. 9/10 times I come here, this is what I get, and I never get disappointed, and happy to report that it's excellent here in Houston as well. They have a lot of other options also, and I can highly recommend the Okinawa Fresh Milk with boba, or the Mango Yakult Smoothie, if you're feeling fruit. Honestly, there's no wrong choice here, and to top it off, their bubble waffle is great too (try it with the salted cheese or cream puff for dipping!!). Once they start offering small bites (fries, fish balls, chicken), it might be over for the competition, at least for me. I went here religiously when I lived in cali and it tastes just as good as always at this location. I'm so happy they opened! The staff were so welcoming even during the BOGO rush and the salted cheese was perfect. Don't forget to ask for a happy lemon card if you plan on coming back often! You add up points by buying drinks and eventually get a free drink after a certain amount of points. You can even save up the points for the future if you wanna get multiple free drinks in one day. Finally got to try happy lemon, heard so many things since it made it to Houston. On a hot summer day in Houston, their mango lemonade slushee really hit the spot. My husband got their Japanese okinwa milk tea and it tasted pretty good too. I would come back and try their stuff on their menu. Service was quick and smooth. Space is a little small but for a Boba shop you don't need too much space. But I know there's always people who like to "study" at boba shops, not this place. read more

One of my new favorite boba places that just opened! I've tried a couple of items, so will comment on those. Green tea with cheese foam: this was surprisingly good and the biggest wow factor is the cheese foam. I'm not really a fan of cheese foam generally but this place makes it so, so well. It's sweet, mild in taste, and really enhances any drink you add it to. Roasted Okinawa milk tea w/boba: their equivalent to brown sugar milk tea with boba. It's super yummy and sweet. I'd recommend half sweet unless you like things super sweet. The boba is also very tasty with enough chewiness and firmness. Big fan of the drink Roasted oolong tea with cheese foam: again, another instance where the cheese foam enhances the taste of the tea! The tea itself was also really good with a strong tea taste. I haven't really explored the fruity drinks/lemon drinks since I'm never really craving it but from the reactions of friends and family who've had it, I'm sure they're also winner drinks too! Otherwise, parking is pretty ample, the place is small and really you can't just buy a drink and hang out there, staff is suuuuuuuper nice and sweet, and there's a cool monitor that'll let you know where you are in your drink ordering process.
