I'm a girl who loves a good manicure and was mega excited to find a place in DC while I was in town. I traveled a few miles to get here and probably should have chosen a place closer to my hotel. Arrived at 9:30am for my reserved appointment and one of the ladies got to work removing my previous set. While she wrapped my nails and let them sit in acetone, the next person got to work on my pedicure. Ok so I was probably at this location for about 20 minutes when 2 ladies walked in. They were almost immediately offered water, green tea etc. While up to this point, I wasn't offered anything until much later than when I arrived. Also the disposition towards these two was generally sunnier and much more accommodating. (They were asked multiple times if their water temp was too hot/too cold etc) Now, the pedicure was fine. The gentleman who worked on my feet was nicer and he definitely perked up when we talked about my hometown. Also they had 3 people work on my nails which just put a bad taste in my mouth. It makes it much messier when it comes to tipping (I'll get to the tipping part later) Another sour item was they swapped out the nail color I chose. I specifically asked for a certain color of red. They pulled it out for me and had it on the ready, and right before she got to painting, someone else asked for the same color, they let the other customer use it and gave me something comparable. Super duper rude. I was already over this place at this point, so I obliged (I'm way too nice for my own good). Also gonna mention here that my cuticles are currently in pain because of them getting cut badly (never has ever happened back at home) Lastly, the tipping part. So when I went to tip, I had to personally give the tips to each person who worked on my nails. Not sure if it's a rule/law but running around small nail shop to track down the folks who worked on my nails doesn't necessarily scream customer service to me. It could have gotten collected at the front and distributed appropriately but I digress. Interesting time at Happy Nails Bar. I was in DC for work so I won't be back. I'm a person who loooooooves customer service and looooooves spending money on a great experience. Unfortunately, I spent the money without having the best experience. Edit: Coming back to this review to say it's been 7 days and two of my nails popped off.

Gel builder (liquid gel) fill with French tip cat eye

Try my girl Gabby out! I came to this spot despite the reviews due to doing some grocery shopping across the street. I asked for the dreaded "gel builder fill" and after my pedicure gabby went to work. She did everything I asked and I couldn't stop looking at my nails! NICE work The only con was the prices, after every request the price went up by $5-15 so my nails with cat eye tips were well over $100, with my total with pedicure being $198. I do think the prices could be more economical given the current climate. Like, I paid a-la-carte for French tips, cat eye, and for multiple colors. Happy? YES, is my wallet?!? NO

Appreciated getting taken back early. Didn't really have too much time to look at colors, but I already knew what I wanted a head of time. Also, while fixing the nail shape (I said they were fine so I don't know why they were being fixed), it felt rushed and like I was going to start bleeding. Oil was just poured on my hands at the end and it was WAY to much. I had to wash my hands again so I could get my card out to pay. Nails look super cute tho!

I dropped into Happy Nails for a basic manicure. No extras I just wantedy natural nails cleaned up the old fashioned way. I asked if they could do a traditional mani, no electric tools just emery boatds. They said yes and the price was $25 so I proceeded. I was given 2 bowls with tepid water and told to soak my nails. About 90 seconds later the tech began working on my nails, quickly pushing back my cuticles, no oil and slightly rough at first. She was more delicate after noticing I'd pulled back after a particularly hard jab. She then quickly but thoroughly removed my overgrown cuticles and then asked if I wanted nails cut and what shape. I told her almond. She said they have to be round if she cuts them down. I told her I do it myself all the time and she should just do the best she can. After giving one nails try she confirmed if the shape was ok. I told her yes and the manicure proceeded. Them she went over ally nails quickly with a very rough filer. My nails were very rough to the touch so I asked if she'd done that to help the polish hold. She didn't understand sp I told her my visit was really about having clean smooth nails and the polish was extra and would probably be removed on a couple days so could she please buff outy nails as of I wasn't getting polish. She asked, you don't want polish? I replied no, I do want that part but let's pretend I don't and please smooth out my nails. I couldn't understand why communication was so hard and why this tech could not perform a basic straightforward manicure, but I remained patient and when she started buffing my nails I assured that was great and all that I wanted... smooth nails. At the end of it all the service felt inadequate and rushed. The salon was nearly empty and it was about 2pm on a Wednesday. I didn't receive services I am accustomed to and believe are standard like warm water for pre-soaking, proper buffing, lotion and brief hand massage, and finishing with a warm wet towel. 24 hrs later my natural translucent nail polish was chipped and had come entirely off 2 fingernails. It's really sad that service has become so subpar. I don't plan on going back.

I came here about a week ago to get my nails done with dipping powder and they started to chip (mind that I've been getting my nails done for 5 years now and dip for those 5 years. I've never had them chip before and much less twice in a row since coming here to get them done. Cassie really exceeded my expectations and was genuinely concerned about both my experiences and went above and beyond to make my nails better, and fixed them so they wouldn't chip anymore. She even gave me a mini hand massage when concluding the work with some lotion and added cuticle oil to make them moisturized. I will come back thanks to this wonderful experience! Thank you Cassie! On a Thursday around 3pm I called and asked if they were busy. They said no and I said I'd be there in 15. 30 minutes later I walk in, she confirmed if I'd called and I got sat and started right away! I really appreciated that and I noticed that around 4pm it got poppin! There were four ladies working and they started having to tell people it was a 30min then hour wait so pro tip, go before 4 if you can! I was preparing for a trip so needed the works but I wanted to confirm my price before we were done. I got a gel manicure with a design ($15 extra), pedicure, and my eyebrows waxed for $99. Considering the quality of my service, I wasn't mad at the price at all! I just got some squiggly lines but my lady definitely took her time and I could tell she was proud of herself when she was done and I was proud of her too! Haha pictures attached for a what I asked for vs. what I got! I left happy and will be back, thank you Happy Nails!

Called ahead around 10:30am Saturday to confirm there was availability. I showed up around 11 and was in the chair in 10 minutes. Cassie works fast but is diligent. I made a few changes as she was doing my nails and she was able to adjust quickly without any issues. Overall, with the designs it came out to $50 for the gel on my natural nails. I was happy with the outcome! There were quite a few people that came in, it seems like everyone was able to get what they needed down fairly quickly. The vibe is casual and relaxing, I would come back again.

So I waited a couple days to write this review to make sure my nails lasted as this was my first time to Happy Nails Bar! I just moved to the area and took an extended amount of time to find the right nail salon through reviews and such. So happy I came to Happy Nails Bar!! I had an appointment for lunch time on Monday and I got there about 10 minutes early and they sat me right away. I got a regular pedicure and gel mani. They had a good selection of colors and various shades. I very much enjoyed both services but my favorite part was that my tech did not make me feel like I needed to continue any small talk and I could really just relax and be in my own head space. There was no uncomfortable silences or forced conversation and to me, that's the greatest thing. It was a clean space, good music, and relaxing and friendly atmosphere. My nails have held up great for the first week and I'll definitely be a returning customer!

This was my first time at Happy Nails Bar and I will definitely be back! I got an acrylic fill with gel polish and had them do designs on all of my fingers. This is the first salon I've been to in the city (I normally go when I'm back home at the holidays or do my own nails), but it was a phenomenal experience. Even though I made an appointment, I had to wait about 15 minutes past my appointment time because every chair in the salon was full. The front desk staff was very communicative that they were running behind and kept me updated on how long it would be until they'd have a chair open for me. I will be making Happy Nails my regular nail salon!

Treated myself to brunch after coming here and I've already received a few compliments on my nails. It did just hit me that the pattern reflects Chick-fil-a (but that's on me. Should've stuck with the original color scheme lol) As you can tell, Van does a really good job! She's meticulous, takes her time, and doesn't let you leave with a "dirty hand." (Trust me, some other places aren't as particular about that) The environment is very welcoming! Everyone was friendly, and while they'll chat with you, they don't force you into small talk. Every conversation is rather organic. I like that. The price is fairly reasonable too. For my soak off, new set, pedicure, and designs, I only paid $115. Really, you can't go wrong here. I'll return!

Customer service: 9/10 You can call and make an appointment. They greet you kindly and take your name and phone number. The techs are also kind and want to provide the best service possible Wait time: 2/10 You will be waiting whether you make an appointment or walk-in. I've made appointments several times (typically on Thursdays or Fridays) and I make them a couple days in advance. Every time I get there, I wait about 30 mins or more past my appointment time. So I started walking in and my experience has been the same. If you have somewhere to be, I would either try to communicate that or complete your to-do list before because you will most likely be waiting at this shop. Quality of work: 9/10 The work is amazing. I've only had Hannah and she is funny and easy to talk to. She is a perfectionist, so if you want someone who can rush you in and out, that isn't her speciality. My full set lasts me a good amount of time and my fill-ins are always top tier. I appreciate the work and attention to detail at this shop. read more

Love Happy Nails! I've been getting my nails done here for about a year. They have great hours, take walk-ins, and don't usually have a long wait time. All of the staff members have a good attitude, even though I've observed them having to engage with terrible customers who have unrealistic expectations and don't expect to pay for good service and a quality manicure or pedicure. The prices are comparable to other nail salons in the area and they are pretty quick, too. read more

I used to be an Enchanted nail & spa purist when I lived in NW DC. But now that I live in NE DC, I am so lucky to have found Happy Nails Bar!! Everyone is so kind and the services are quick. They offer the best prices I have found for manis and pedis. And their nail extensions (I've only done dip powder and gel x) last several days longer than what I've received at other salons. they are not clean and they aren't honest about their pricing. I had a horrible incident with them, I had to report them to health services and turns out that not all their technicians at that time had their licenses. if you do risk going I would suggest you make sure you ask about the price up front, get pictures of past designs the nail person has done, and for them to show you their licenses. read more

I was visiting the DC area & chose this place based on location to my hotel. In all honesty I must say this is the best place I've EVER gotten my nails done anywhere. Cassie was so friendly & did a phenomenal job on my gel manicure. The environment was so relaxing with classical music playing, not a blaring tv or noisy talking going on. I was so blessed & couldn't ask for a more perfect experience. I left with such peace & definitely happy with my nails! highly recommend! read more

I really really hate writing one star reviews, especially for small businesses, but this was probably the worst experience I've ever had at a nail salon. I came in for a regular pedicure and a gel manicure. I was able to get a chair right away to get started on the pedicure. The girl who helped me was so rough. I still have a cut on my foot from where she cut me. She also was working really quickly, the point of it feeling rushed and not as good as it could have been. From there I moved over to get a gel manicure. This was relatively fine and uneventful, but still felt very rushed. I didn't love the color but felt like she was pushing me to keep it since she'd already done one nail. I kept the color against my better judgement. When she finished my manicure, she tried to put my shoes back on and I asked to keep the little flip flops since my car was around the corner and I was worried my toes weren't dry. She insisted and basically put my shoes back on for me, and shocker - my toes weren't dry. So my pedicure was ruined before I even got home. And then my gel nails started peeling off within ONE WEEK of getting them done. I got the mani and pedi prior to a vacation so I didn't have time for them to fix the pedicure (I left the next morning) and my nails were pretty much completely off by the time I got home from vacation. I would never come back to this salon after this experience. read more

Do not ever come to this salon unless you want to have nail glue stuck on your skin and a scar on your foot from a horrible pedicure. I mean it. Came here a few weeks ago and received the absolute worst unprofessional service i've ever had by a guy with long hair, I don't remember his name. I asked for a signature pedicure (one of their most expensive option) and the guy was extremely rough and inexperienced. He did not shape my toes whatsoever, sped through the entire thing. He scraped the entire side of my foot with the pumice stone, leaving a scratch from broken skin. Its been two weeks and I still have a 2 inch scab that is barely healing. Even worse, when the same guy went to do my nails, he struggled opening the nail glue bottle so he squeezed it with the nozzle pointed at me. It went ALL. OVER. MY. HANDS. I had toxic nail glue stuck on my skin all the way up to my wrists. After that, he began scrubbing my hand with a dirty towel to get the glue off. I told him I was leaving because the service was horrible and I literally had a cap of glue stuck on my hands, which were now red from him scrubbing. Oh, and he had already drilled my nails paper thin, so I couldn't go anywhere else. And the worst part? They still made me pay that horrible painful pedicure. It took me two weeks to write this review simply by how angry I have been thinking about that experience. Please save your time, money, and skin by not going here. ever. read more

Avoid this place at all costs for gel extensions and especially removal! Went here to get apres gel-x removal and a new set of gel extensions. The person doing the removal ruined my natural nails, at one point they were using their fingernails to rip off the gel-x extensions, and then they buffed my nails so much that they burned when going under the UV light later on, so much that I had to keep pulling my hands out after a few seconds. They also cut back my natural nails way further than I agreed to, so I have to start growing them out all over again. For the new gel extensions, they used something like super glue to adhere them to my natural nails, and it was pretty sloppy, so two weeks in they are already breaking off. Usually I get nail art done but at this point I just wanted to get out of there, so I just asked for a single color. The paint job was so bad that when I went to pay, the person checking me out looked at my nails and actually re-did the color. While that was nice, I'm still left with broken nails after two weeks and natural nails that are going to take months to recover. read more

I've tried to give this place a chance on 3 different occasions. Each time I came, there was an issue. First time, the woman decided to paint my nails a color that i specifically did not request and rushed me. I wanted an ombré hard gel nail. First she didn't know how to do an ombré and when I said I can do OPI bubble bath, she gave me a horrendous pink. Instead of fixing the issue when I brought it to their attention, they asked me to come back another day....Not only did they make me pay full price, but they never fixed the color. I had to come back after closing to fix my nails. No refund, discount or anything. Then I tried to get my lashes done. I called ahead and was asked to come at 6:30. Then they called back and asked to come at 7. I arrive at 6:45 and someone doesn't come to service me until 7:22. I explain I just want a cat eye lash...they start talking because they don't know how to do that style (which is just varying lengths). So then they ask me YET AGAIN, to please come back after I waited for 40 minutes. I said no and she asked again because it would take too long to do. So I left. I will never go back there. They seem to cater to one type of person anyways. read more

However, what cemented for me this place is horrible is that within 2 days the gel manicure chipped! First it was 2 nails. Now, 4 days later 3. I called and they wanted me to come back there to have them fixed. I said I would never return and they gave me some money back as I insisted. But the continued deterioration of the service after just days is clear this isn't good good nail spa. I don't recommend it and I wouldn't return.

My nail technician offered me water towards the end of my service, which I graciously accepted, however I noticed most people were offered a beverage at the beginning of their service. The spa is relatively cozy in size and efficient, no frills or luxury, but everything was tidy, and my pedicure was done amazingly, and completed in a bit over an hour. I checked out efficiently and was given a somewhat short and dry good bye..hahahaha. But honestly, their service speaks for itself. I definitely would visit here again, and beware of the limited street parking.. prices are reasonable too!

My technician was nice, but seemed to really want to get me in and out of her chair as quickly as possible. I have never kept my hands under the UV light for less than 60 seconds per layer, but at one point I timed it and my hand was under the light for 15 seconds. It was truly: finish one hand, immediately change hands to put under the light. I questioned it internally but figured she knew what she was doing. I got my nails done on a Tuesday, by Sunday one of my nails was chipped. Bliss has a policy that any chips within 10 days can be fixed for free, so I went in the next Wednesday to get the nail fixed. Again it was incredibly rushed, 15 seconds max under the light. By Friday the nail chipped again. Two days later another nail chipped. Less than two weeks and the manicure was already chipping. A disappointing experience compared to my first time there.

!! STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND !! I recently visited Happy Nails with high hopes of getting a full gel set and a relaxing nail care experience. However, my visit turned out to be extremely disappointing, to say the least. Firstly, despite requesting a full gel set, I was not provided with the service I desired. Instead, I received a basic gel manicure, missing several elements I had specifically asked for. This lack of attention to detail and failure to fulfill customer requests was truly frustrating and left me feeling unsatisfied with the overall service. Furthermore, when I brought up the issue with the manager and politely asked for at least a discount due to receiving something I didn't want, the response I received was shockingly hostile. The manager displayed a complete lack of professionalism and customer service skills, refusing to acknowledge their mistake and instead blaming me for the misunderstanding. This level of disrespect and dismissiveness towards a paying customer is simply unacceptable. After literally explaining to him that this was never the set I wanted and also explained to him that I showed the nail technician the exact length and shape. Mind you, the totally for my medi/pedi was $85! What waste! Overall, my experience at Happy Nails was far from pleasant. I would be lying if I said this whole incident sat with me lightly. Not only did I not receive the service I requested, but I also encountered a hostile manager who made the situation even more unpleasant. As a black woman, I felt like I needed to hold my composure due to the stereotypical outlook of the whole thing if it was to be escalated. So I found it unfair that I didn't get what I wanted due to my fear of being viewed as 'hostile'. I would strongly advise others to think twice before visiting this establishment, as the lack of quality service and unprofessional behavior exhibited by the staff leaves much to be desired. read more

I am not a person leaving for any reviews, but I have to write something for Happy Nails Bar as my favorite place for the 1st time visited. About 15 minutes waiting and watching around the shop; All women here are working hard, especially when getting busy, they tried to make their clients satisfied with their experiences. (It was not easy when taking care of some customers with the way they wanted perfectly.) Anyway, my deluxe pedicure and dipping powder were great, I felt relaxed and so comfortable at this place and definitely will come back. Hopefully they will get more customers like me. I went here because my other salon had closed. I had a great experience with Happy nails. Cassie is a great manger. Van did my They took good care of me.
