Happy to have found such a friendly neighborhood nail salon. It's small, but clean and filled with joyful artwork. The machines all look new. I was in a rush to get my nails done and dropped in last minute. They were so nice to accommodate me and thoughtfully help me with choosing colors. I had mentioned I was going to a wedding and the owner/manager(?) asked me what color my dress was, what colors I was leaning towards, then gave me several options while I was sitting down to start the mani-pedi. I felt like he really cared and was patient even though I didn't have much time. Because I was in a rush, they were able to have two people working simultaneously. He also volunteered to do any touch ups should my nails have gotten dinged before the wedding, saying, "you have to look your best!" I really appreciated that. I have driven by this place so many times I have lost count. Today, I finished off some important documents to get my passport and passport card. After the trip to Millie's Restaurant and PNC Bank in DC, I decided to finally try out this nail salon. Right from the get go, find a parking spot behind the store was out. Parking along the side of the street was the only option. The parking meters take credit cards and quarters. The parking spot I found had coins in the machine and they were jammed in it. Luckily the machine had 34 minutes left over. Walking inside the place, I saw it was very small. The place for waxing looked like Harry Potter's stairway room. They say they dont do body masssge but there is a body masssge chair near the waxing room. The place started to smell like marijuana after about 18 minutes of being there. The foot massage and manicure were nice. But nothing to write home about. I would have had a 30 minute foot masssge, but the smell of marijuana coming through the floor or walls was making me sick. I was going to say something to the manager, but changed my mind. The staff seem friendly to a point. Since I wasn't a regular there, they treated me as newcomer...to which was. Overall I would have given the place four stars, but the continues stink weed seeping through the walls or floors was worse than smelling ass. read more

I love love this place now that Carrie works here. She's amazing and fast and is a pro at mixing colors so that you get the perfect shade. I work our a lot so I always have problems with in grown nails on my feet and she takes her time and makes sure to get everything out. I stopped by this little nail salon for a pedi and gel mani. It's located in Foxhall and is pretty close to the Georgetown Campus. I went in the middle of the day and was the only customer, so I was attended to right away. The service itself was done well. The pedi was a little lacking, but the gel nail polish was solid. The color selection is really lacking, and I just wanted baby pink (regular) polish on my toes with a matching (gel) polish on my hands--but it couldn't be done. I felt really pressured to upgrade and get add-ons, and they didn't honor the student discount despite having a student ID. They also don't accept American Express and their sign isn't super noticeable when you walk in. read more

As my dearth of reviews would imply, I've been skimping on the fun aspects of life lately. But I was looking to compensate with some primping on a Sunday afternoon. As a student though, I was still hesitant about ponying up any serious cash. So I called Happy Nail after one of my classmates recommended it and set up an appointment for that same afternoon. I'm actually a little hesitant to write this review because I like having my secret spots all to myself, but part of being a good Yelper is sharing the wealth, right? Their normal pricing is $15 for a mani, $30 for a pedi, $40 for both, and $3/$5 extra for French on mani/pedi, respectively. Eyebrow waxing is $10. Using my student discount, I paid $49 (not including tip) for a french mani, a normal pedi and an eyebrow wax. That's already a deal in Georgetown. But it got better. They gave me massages with my mani and my pedi, and were super pleasant and nice. The salon is easy to find, with lots of street parking on Foxhall, which trumps any M Street spot. Plus, my nails are still looking fabulous. I definitely know where my go-to spot for nail maintenance is. read more

Got a french gel manicure. Their technique is a bit different from the one I've had before. They freehand it instead of taking away polish with a curved brush. This results in a slightly thicker layer of white polish that you can feel when you go over your nails. Unfortunately, my manicurist accidentally cut too deep into one of my cuticles and I started bleeding. She wrapped up my finger and waited before trying again, but it started bleeding again. This happened five times. I was not too happy by then. She asked me to come back the following day to finish the nail and did not charge me for the manicure. The next day, I came back but she wasn't there. Another manicurist finished my incomplete nail, so it was fine. Overall, if I were in the area, I'd go back, but wouldn't seek them out specifically. read more

Probably the slowest gel manicure I have ever had and the most expensive. I paid $50 to sit in a freezing disgusting nail salon. I cannot believe that anyone would come here more than once. I usually only pay $25 dollars for a gel at my regular nail salon and $40 for my luxury nail salon that I go to. They have limited colors to choose from, my polish is extra thick and bumpy. She missed the sides of my nails, I am just waiting for this to start peeling off because of how thick it is. read more

For Christmas, my cousin, other cousin's girlfriend and I all got gift certificates here from my aunt for a gel manicure and pedicure. We all went in a couple of days ago to get them done, and I was really impressed. I've never had a gel manicure done before, and it was a very different process. Both my aunt and the woman doing my nails said that my manicure will last up to three weeks - and so far, it's still in perfect shape! Usually when I get manicures they hold up for about a week, but some slight chipping happens in the first few days. That hasn't happened yet with this one at all, so I'm pretty excited about this new technique. The salon itself was very cute and small, but quite crowded, and they couldn't fully accommodate everyone who was in there all at once. Despite this, the service was excellent, and I'm really happy with the job they did. I'm not sure if I'll forgo this place for my usual spot at Nail Design in Bethesda if I'm going for a regular mani/pedi, but if I want the gel manicure done again I'm definitely going back! read more

I won't be returning and I've been coming here for many years on a regular basis. Multiple times I've made an appointment for a mani/pedi and after the pedicure, asked to wait for the manicure because a new client walked into the salon. The owner has wanted the technician who has been working on me, to start working on the new client. One time I was even asked in a rude tone, "oh you're busy?" because I told the owner that no, I can't wait while you start on the new client. It doesn't make any difference if I'm busy - I booked a manicure/pedicure and expect the manicure to immediately follow the pedicure which is what's supposed to happen. I strongly dislike their practice of always prioritizing a new client as opposed to focusing on finishing the service they are in the middle of. I'm tired of being passed from one technician to another because a new client came in. I'm tired of someone walking in the door and as a result, having someone else do my manicure so the client who walked in can have their pedicure started in order to capture their business. I'm tired of having the technician doing my manicure rush through the last part because she's been told by the owner that she needs to start their pedicure. I'll be finding another salon. read more

I just went there for the first time and I'm very pleased with the results. I live extremely close by and the prices are lower than the place on MacArthur down the road. Quaint location next to Jetties on Foxhall. I went during a slow time and at first was the only one there. Happy Nails doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, shelves of colors to choose from or fancy equipment, but my nails look great. Jessica, my manicurist, has great skill and is as sweet as could be. Two coats of clear gel and two coats of the color and it's still thin looking like polish directly on nail. My friend and I walked in on a Monday around 5pm. We both got regular manicures for the student discounted price ($11) and were very satisfied. My biggest pet peeve with getting my nails done are having tiny unpainted strips at the sides of my nails, and this is the first time in a long time that there have been zero spots missed. For that, I will definitely be going back. Other tidbits: the techs asked for preference before trimming cuticles which I appreciated. A quick back massage was included at the end! This was one of the best pedicures I have gotten in my life. It was a clean, well-kept place, the staff were friendly, and there was a student discount (I got a pedicure for $30 instead of $35). The little details were a good surprise - the hot stone treatment to my foot, warm parrafin wax to remove callous, etc... - made the experience memorable. I've been to Happy Nail several times - it's a hidden gem in the Palisades neighborhood. The salon is always quiet, they keep the radio on but no TVs or loud chatter. The technicians are very nice and detail-oriented. The prices are in the low to mid range for the Georgetown area. $15 for mani, $30 for pedi, and $40 for both. Student discount knocks a few bucks off each. I've never needed an appointment after work but it's good to call ahead. read more

Prices have crept up in recent years so what was a great deal for a neighborhood location is no longer my go-to salon. While it was fine when the prices were reasonable, I've never been to a salon that uses paper towels instead of actual towels. The staff are hit and miss. I got a gel manicure here yesterday. It's the best gel manicure I've had in memory. I really like the shape that the manicurist filed my nails in to and (more importantly) I seriously cannot find one flaw in the paint/polish job. At other places, I commonly find an issue on one nail or the manicurist didn't go close enough to the cuticle with the polish, etc....not here! My nails look excellent! The manicurist happily let me see the color on one of my nails before I proceeded with it. My gel manicure was $35, which was a tiny bit more than I expected. I came to this salon for a standard eyebrow waxing, which is $10. At noon on a weekday, there was no wait, which is always great and why I credit the 2 stars. My eyebrows are pretty standard, they have adequate hair and a natural arch and every time I get my eye brows done, they look "cleaned up," nothing too amazing. Coming here has been the only experience I've had in which my eyebrows actually look worse than when I walked in. My eyebrows were waxed without pain and quickly, which I like. When the lady was finished, she handed me the mirror to evaluate and could tell that I was less than pleased. My eyebrows still looked unkempt and she proceeded to take scissors and trim my eyebrows thinking that would help. Being passive aggressive and from Seattle, I didn't complain to her and instead am ranting on Yelp. The end result is two blah eyebrows with a gap cut into them. All for $10. read more
