They have some of the best chips and salsa, awesome margarita options and new specials all the time! I can't count the number of times I've gone, and I've had a great experience every single time! The portions here are huge! The enchiladas are packed full & the guajillo sauce is smoky & has a little kick! Fajitas are always a show stopper, and Red Mesa's are packed with flavor & come out sizzling hot! I've been a customer for over 20 years...actually soon after they opened in boyne. They recently changed their menu and honestly not the the better. I know change is good to keep things fresh but you haven't changed it much in all this time. You took off all ground beef and pork, changed the nachos for the worse and I got you got a new chip vendor and now charging for chips, but too much change doesn't allow your faithful customers to enjoy their favorite dishes. Why are the wings off the menu?! That was one of the best things on the menu. Why won't you brong back more local whitefish dishes like the chili encrusted whitefish you ran frequently as a special? And don't get me started on the new menu...why in the world would you make people twirl a menu to read it? I ordered the Birria entree the other night to go . When I got home the food was still plenty hot, beautifully packaged up, tortilla chips crispy and plentiful. This place was pretty good. I'm traveling with friends this weekend and we are staying in Boyne. We drove the quick drive to Boyne City for dinner and one of my friends eats gluten-free and vegetarian so we were looking for something that would accommodate all of us. I got the pina colada but unfortunately it wasn't as pineappley or coconutty as I wanted it to be. We had looked up the menu online and saw there was a drink that they light on fire, I was expecting something more dramatic but it was still pretty cool; my friend ordered it. I had the quesabirria tacos for dinner and they were pretty good. I really wanted the chicken pineapple quesadilla but I figured it had more dairy than the tacos; one of my other friends got it and said it was okay. My GF friend got the veggie tacos with a corn tortilla and a veggie side. Waitservice was friendly and fast as well. The restaurant is much more larger than it looks, it goes all the way to the back of the space. I would come back here again for Mexican food. Easy to get in with our group of 7 at 5:30 on a weeknight it did fill up closer to 6pm The drinks were tasty and had a marg menu with creative choices. We enjoyed the armadillo eggs and other things like tacos, burritos. Mango salad, enchilada etc. Not the usual Mexican rest as it had some less common Latin choices as well Our sever was amazing! Wish I had anything good to say about our experience at this restaurant. We were hopeful walking in due to the good reviews. Service was down right horrendous. Couldn't get anything to the table that wasn't just an entree. Waiter couldn't bring us water, chips and salsa, or any sides for our entrees. Everything was amazing! I had the pork carnitas and my daughter had the Macha Salsa Shrimp bowl and I had a strawberry margarita and she had a jalapeño cilantro margarita.. Visit to Red Mesa Boyne City, Saturday August 10th, 2024. We have been to this location a couple of times, typically go to the one in Traverse City. Asked for a booth, said they couldn't because they sit in sections put us at a table but sat the next two groups in booths, this was after not being greeted so we said hi and how many then someone just started walking to a table with menus. The table was in full view of the kitchen and the server area, which is not a good location nor good things to watch. Servers were scooping chips out of the bin with a scoop that stayed in the bin with the chips plus using their hands to hold the chips into the scoop and put in the basket...bare hands. Our server was really nice and was very apologetic that the appetizer and the food all came out at once. It was not that busy. We have had decent visits here before but will definitely stick with making the drive to Traverse City from now on. read more

Our first time here. Our 17th anniversary trip. My wife chose Boyne City... I was gunning for Petoskey. My wife's choice was class A as usual. Place was near packed on a Saturday night. Mostly tourists like us we gathered. We walked in lady asked how many? My wife replied 2. We were ushered to our table and a young man named Austin took our order. Within 10 mins the food was served. The food was very good. A little spicey. Hit the spot. Austin checked on us frequently. Awesome service! While walking out the owner/manager asked where we were visiting from? Visited Red Mesa Grill in Boyne City this past weekend. We love sitting at the bar but had a poor experience with the bartenders. They were rude! Bartenders are first impression of any restaurant. I would not have these two women at the front of the house that way. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go here. Right on the main dragon point city the staple of Boyne city has been there for over 25 years and it's been there for a reason because it's good. The lady inside who worked there named "Brenda" was very helpful to get us seated and took great care of us. Because it was super busy, we waited like 15 minutes to get our drinks and somehow our ticket with our order was lost so it too took awhile to get our food. But when we did get it, it tasted amazing. If you don't think of this place as a Mexican food restaurant, you will start with clearer expectations. They bill themselves as a Latin inspired restaurant, so that's fine. However, they should not label a dish "Brazilian steak" because they don't know at all what Brazilian style steak is. Theirs is skirt steak with guajillo sauce and garlic green chile. Whereas in Brazil, the most popular kind of steak is the crown of the sirloin and it would not have those aforementioned spices on it. It would be mostly seasoned with salt, pepper and a bit of fresh garlic. The chicken and chorizo stuffed poblano, had very good flavors, but it wasn't completely adequately warm inside. It may have been cooked previously, and then reheated, but part of the stuffing inside the poblano was tepid, and an end part was chilly. So, for some reason they didn't do the reheating process on the "oven baked" stuffed poblano. The guacamole and black beans were good. The front room is extremely noisy, so normal conversation is difficult. They need some acoustic absorption panels or lots of tapestries to muffle the noise. The second room is a bit quieter, and the back room is the best for conversation. If this restaurant were in a larger city, they'd have to compete harder to stay afloat, but in Boyne City they survive because of scant competition read more

We ate there for the first time tonight and we're very pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They have a small patio dining area in the back that can be closed in or open air on nice days. We are out there and enjoyed the fresh air. We ordered the guacamole, bean tacos and black bean wrap (may have been called a twister). It was all delicious- especially the wrap! The sauce was fantastic. Visiting this quaint little town called Traverse and stumbled into this Mexican Restaurant. Unbeknownst to me was I going to encounter a true mixologist. Bill the bartender surprised me with one of the best Spicy Margaritas! Sour mix is made every couple of days. On another note was told to try the Shandy, it's a draft beer with a shot of lemonade.
