At first I wasn't too sure about going to Hapy, but my partner convinced me to give it a shot. Suffice to say, I'm really glad we went. If you're looking for something akin to Mediterranean food with the flexibility to order American style dishes as well, this is probably the best place in the Grover Beach area. I got the gyro sandwich which I expected to be a relatively small portion but, much to my surprise, was more than I could finish. The meat was perfectly cooked and the pita was well-constructed - none of the ingredients ended up falling off! I got lentils as my side instead of fries and I would comment that if they added a little bit more spice/heat to the soup, it would've been absolutely exquisite. My partner got a lamb shoulder dish - perfectly seasoned. The downside was that it was heavy because of all the lamb (duh), which made it a little hard to finish eating. If you're considering getting something like the lamb shoulder - I would highly suggest that you get it to share. We ordered crabcakes for the appetizer. It didn't seem like the crab was fresh because it was pulled, but who knows, maybe they pull it themselves in kitchen? They were perfectly fried and the garlic sauce that came as a side it was a tasteful companion. We also noticed, but sadly did not indulge in, their extensive wine listing. Made a reservation about a week ahead of time. Then called and asked for patio dining as we had a dog with us. They accommodated at that time. However, 45 minutes before our reservation, they texted and indicated they couldn't accommodate us on patio as they had a group of 46 going to be there. We were not told this when we asked for patio. I realize that mistakes happen but sure wasn't easy getting a reservation for Friday night last minute. We were able to at our favorite Italian restaurant in SLO. Here is my sad review. When I first went to the restaurant the food it was so delicious. A The 2nd time I went here again because I remembered how delicious it was. So I decided to take my daughter to this restaurant cuz I was sure that she would love it. Going there last week was a disappointment. I ordered the fresh fruit salad and what I got was little hunks of fruit you could shoot through a pea scooter. My daughter ordered a chicken sandwich on a pita and it was supposed to have some delicious garlic sauce. She asked for some extra sauce because she knew that she would be using it. Well that never came to our table so when the server came over we asked her where the sauce was. She first told us that it would cost an extra $2 and I said that was fine. That never came to the table again so when she asked how are lunch was we once again mentioned the garlic sauce. And she said it's all gone. Now why weren't we told that in the first place. So if you're going to advertise the lunch for that with chicken with the garlic sauce and have no garlic sauce then why bother. Yesterday I was in there with a friend who absolutely loves your place. In fact she had frequented your place four times last week. She was excited to go again. Well when we got our meal her onions had not been prepped properly and the casing for the onion was still on cut and it was fried with the casing on the peel. It tasted like cardboard. So she thought maybe just one fell in until she got another. So she took her food off of the onions because now she was finding several. It looks like the prep cook did not take the skin off and just cooked it. It was not very pleasant. When the server came over we told her about this issue and she said I'm sorry there's nothing I can do. At that point I asked for a manager. Oh he has left but he'll be right back. When he comes back I said please send him over to our table. My friend told the manager her husband was a chef and that she did not feel the prep cook had taken off the skin off the onion. That they probably should watch the prep cook. The manager did apologize and ask if there was anything else he could bring. At that point he should have taken my friends meal off the ticket or given her a gift card. So unfortunately they lost a great patron of your restaurant and she probably will not be back. I ate at this restaurant a few years ago while visiting a friend, (I didn't live in the area but I do now). The food was delicious but made me sick. I don't have any food allergies, but I do have a fairly strong stomach, and was feeling fine prior to the meal so unfortunately I have to blame my illness that night on the food. It's really disappointing but no matter how good the restaurant mistakes can be made - and the result in this case was a night of devotion to the porcelain god! I would be willing to go back but I think I would choose my meal carefully. Probably something simple, or a menu item that is popular and also ordered by someone else in my party. I've done this in the past, it worked out well and by giving that restaurant a second chance I was able to have more good meals than I can count over a dozen+ years. When opportunity knocks I will go back to Hapy. Hopefully I will have reason to update my review afterwards! read more

Hapy made me happy! I came across this hidden gem on Yelp and The Fireman and I decided to stop in for a late lunch after running errands all over the central coast. They have an amazing wine selection and beers in the cooler or on tap. We sat on the patio sipping rosé. I ordered the baba ganoush and the steak bites as my meal and he ordered the chicken kabob lunch plate. The serving size was more than plenty. I really can't wait to come back and get the chicken liver appetizers. My grandmother used to cook chicken livers and they are so hard to come by now. We will definitely be returning for dinner. I'm so glad we found this place on yelp! What a hidden gem. Classy yet not pretentious atmosphere, and the food and service were great. Everyone in our party was either vegan our vegetarian and they were happy to accommodate all our needs, although I will say all the meat dishes we saw at other tables looked fantastic as well. Portions are very generous and prices are good. Tons of wine, just like you would expect at a bistro, but what shocked us was that they had just as much beer variety! I met my girlfriend here today for lunch. A couple of my friends said it was pretty good and so I wanted to try this place even though we found out it's been here for three years. I had a club sandwich and it was great, turkey ham and bacon was all outstanding and of course I couldn't eat it all so took some of it home. With any sandwich you get a side, such as fries or a salad. I bought my husband a lamb sandwich to eat for dinner and he said it was pretty good. My sisters introduced me to Hapy's several years ago and we all keep coming back. My wife's favorite is the falafel sandwich and I order the off menu BLT. Both are great and very consistent in quality. The beef shish kabob is made from trip-tip and melts in your mouth. Choice of pilaf, mashed potatoes, vegetables or fries- a lot to decide between, but all great. Make your selection from their wine cabinets and pay a small cork fee to complete your meal. Cool concept though, perhaps there's other people like me that like good beer and good food? Not only do they have around 25 beers on tap, they have a few rows of craft beers refrigerators (for you to take home). Enjoyed the Lamb Sandwich for lunch which was simply amazing. Tender lamb, sliced thin and caramelized onions cooked just right all served on a focaccia-type bread slathered with creamy goat cheese and mustard. Wow! I've driven past this place many times and assumed that the sign saying "HAPY" in a strip mall must have been a nail salon, but it wasn't, at all. What a hidden gem! It's a Greek/Mediterranean place serving delicious food, with impeccable, over-the-top customer service (Karsten served us and showed Michelin-starred level professionalism) They have an incredibly extensive and well-curated wine and beer selection (kudos to their beverage director) featuring local and international wines that run the gamut of price points and quality, and a craft beer lineup (with to-go six pack options) that would satisfy even the snobbiest of bearded & flannelled hipsters in tartan golf hats. I work in the wine industry and saw many bottles of flagship wines from local producers that carry 95+ point ratings from major wine review publications, selling at or below the retail prices of those same bottles at the producing wineries themselves. They also have a walk-in cigar humidor and a patio (we dined inside and didn't have a look at the patio, but the staff made it seem like it had the most impressive tables in the house.) The menu was extensive and priced affordably, although high end steaks and fish cuts were also on offer. My girlfriend and I stopped in just for a drink to kill some time but couldn't resist sharing the kefta kebobs, which included hummus, tzaziki (some of the best I've had) and a delicious Mediterranean-dressed salad with a side of warm pita. Sat outside on the patio with my dog and grandma and our waitress was so sweet and brought my lil maizey a dog bowl of water and turned on the heaters to keep us warm!
