My friends and I came here and on a whim and were lucky enough to sit down without a reservation on a Saturday night. The Oyster Loft is one of my ALL time favorite restaurants. The cocktails are a nice balance between alcohol snd sweet. I ended up drinking 4, and still felt great after! It felt really refreshing. We ordered 30 oysters for the table and we finished them so fast because they tasted so good! I'm a huge fan of west coast oysters because of how sweet they taste. We pretty much inhaled all 30! We shared the plates family style, and it was very tasty! I felt like all the dishes had a good balance between differently flavor profiles. It was so good that we were able to finish the whole meal! The desserts were so solid. I actually would have regretted it if we didn't finish off our meal with it. The service was good! I never have a problem with our servers whenever we visit. Dinner with my wife celebrating our wedding anniversary. I wanted to enjoy my experience here given the beautiful beachfront views, but the execution fell short for an upscale spot. To start, we arrived early for our reservation. I had made a note requesting an outdoor table, and the hostess attempted to seat us inside. I politely asked for an outside table again, and she said we would have to wait 10 minutes, which was fine. We moved to the bar, ordered two glasses of wine, and before they even finished pouring our water, the table was "ready". The biggest disappointment was the limited menu availability. Four out of ten of the entrees were completely unavailable when we ordered, which severely restricted our options. Additionally, my wine bottle was served and was never chilled or offered a wine bucket, which is a miss for a premium seafood restaurant. On the positive side, the food they DID have available and we could order was all tasty and fresh. The service was okay, polite, but not particularly attentive or proactive given the pricing. Overall, you're paying for the stunning location, but the food logistics and service definitely need improvement. We still had a great time! read more

Haley (server) mentioned that the owner/chef is a Pismo Beach native who studied abroad to earn his culinary credentials. Amazing! Two hostess greeted us, one smiled while the blonde appeared like she was not having a good day. Quite unfortunate that an amazing restaurant like this has an employee greeting its customers and do not understand that they are the face and first impression of the business. She did not know how to speak cordially, no smile and just had a bad attitude. Michael and Haley more than made up for the hostess who almost caused us to cancel our reservation and celebrate elsewhere. The service was outstanding, consistent and welcoming. Ambience is phenomenal. We sat at the patio and enjoyed watching the sunset for an extended time. Tables were separated enough to provide enough privacy. We had the seafood tower, roasted beets, Mac n cheese, peanut butter tower and a couple of cocktails. They were all delicious and prepared and presented well. One of our friends is vegan, and the chef went out of their way to create a vegan dish just for her. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted just as good. The Oyster Loft was an entire experience. I ordered Just Peachy Lemon Drop and my husband ordered an Old Fashioned. We got some amazing 2 dozen oysters, with the Grassy Bar and Misty Point oysters. I had the duck and he got the pork chop. The duck I had was so tender and it was paired nicely with the garnishes. My husband enjoyed the pork chop so much and he mentioned he's probably never going to get a pork chop so good again. Our server Matthew was incredible and gave us some complimentary ice cream for our anniversary as we were seated by the ocean. After hearing several recommendations from both locals and restaurant staff around Pismo Beach, we decided to celebrate our niece's graduation from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at Oyster Loft. We also brought our own wine, and the $20 per bottle corkage fee was very reasonable. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was an unusual odor. We couldn't tell if it was because of the older building near the ocean or something from the kitchen. It seemed to disappear once we were seated, but we noticed it again when walking toward the restrooms. It didn't ruin our evening, but it was something that stood out. Service was a little mixed. My husband has a dairy allergy, so he began by asking what came with the Kurobuta pork chop and which of the sides contained dairy. The server seemed hesitant and mentioned that the chef doesn't like to change his menu, even though my husband hadn't asked for any substitutions. After some back-and-forth, the server suggested placing the pork chop on a separate plate from the sides, which was what my husband had been trying to ask for all along. Most restaurants are quick to suggest simple ways to accommodate food allergies, so the interaction felt more complicated than it needed to be. That said, the food itself was very good. The Beef Tataki was one of my favorite dishes of the evening--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Everything we ordered was well executed, but dessert ended up stealing the show. The Loft Brownie was absolutely delicious, and my niece and I loved every bite. My husband was equally excited that they offered a dairy-free chocolate ice cream, which he really enjoyed. Overall, I can see why Oyster Loft is recommended for seafood, but for us it didn't quite live up to the hype. With so many wonderful restaurants in Pismo Beach still on our list to try, I don't think we'll be making a return visit any time soon. read more

Perfect spot for dinner right off the Pismo Pier with an amazing ocean view. The service was warm and attentive, and every dish we ordered was fresh and delicious. The oysters were incredibly sweet and creamy, the octopus was perfectly tender without being chewy, and the Kurobuta pork chop was cooked to perfection, juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The chicken was another standout, with wonderfully crispy skin and tender, juicy meat. Even the Caesar salad was fresh and exactly what you'd expect from a classic Caesar. I was on my way to Monterey for research and decided to book a last-minute reservation in Pismo Beach for dinner, and was surprised at how utterly disappointing our experience was when we dined at the Oyster Loft. Perhaps the onus was on me to recognize the shape of a tourist trap, but I was optimistic about this restaurant based on some reviews. The "crudo" plate is nothing of the sort beyond a few sliced pieces of fish on a bed of ice (if you know anything about serving *sashimi*, this is a no-no); to call something "crudo" which is, effectively, a sashimi platter feels... somewhat misleading. We also ordered a selection of oysters and were disappointed to see they were haphazardly shucked so much so that many of the oysters would not detach from their shells as we attempted to eat them. There's nothing so inelegant as trying to suck down an oyster and finding it won't budge (even after you've gently coaxed it with the appropriate utensil). The service also left something to be desired. We ordered a first round of cocktails and wine, and the server never checked on us again to see if we would like another round. I usually don't like to make such late reservations (we arrived for an 8:30pm reservation), so perhaps our server was busy with trying to finish their shift, but it felt like an egregous oversight to both 1) not be asked if we would like more drinks when our glasses were empty for 20 minutes, and 2) to not check in on our waters (we were handed a bottle and we ran out of water throughout the course of our meal, and no one seemed to care). Our dinner was also, unfortunately, interrupted by a large table behind us (about 10-15 people) who were incredibly inebriated and having a raucous good ol' time together (kudos for them, but if you want a more romanic or peaceful setting then I may suggest you dine elsewhere). It may behoove the manager to consider asking such guests to be considerate of others who are dining 3 feet from a group that was easily 6 martinis into their dining experience before their food came. Is the view gorgeous? Yes. Is it worth the price, and the seeming lack of service? Absolutely not. I will not be returning, but I suspect that is of little consequence when a restaurant such as this has the premium on prime dining real estate in this lil' beach town. May the luck be ever in your favor should you choose to dine here, and may you experience the bare modicum of service that such prices should include. Just my two cents! read more

Our appetizers were amazing. My partner ordered raw oysters, and they were serving four different kinds. Michel did a great job explaining the origin and flavor profile of each one. I ordered the beef tataki, which melted in my mouth. The scallions paired perfectly with the beef, both in flavor and contrasting textures. For our entrées, we had the Roasted Sea Bass and Mussels and the Kurobuta Pork Chop. My partner devoured the sea bass and mussels. My pork chop, however, was more on the well-done side, so it ended up a bit dry. The bread pudding served with it was slightly salty, but it did pair well with the pork. The apple and black truffle sauce was delicious. For dessert, we received a complimentary scoop of caramel ice cream for my birthday. We also ordered bread pudding and the caramel basket. Worth A Return Visit..... Another special occasion arrived - my birthday - so my wife and I, plus another couple, headed to the Oyster Loft for a celebration. Here are the pros and cons of that meal..... Pros: - Ambiance: Tough to beat...especially facing the ocean on the outside deck. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of a building so our table facing the west had a birds-eye view of the Pacific with surfers and people with their dogs on the beach. - Menu: Lots of interesting choices. Oysters are one small part of the menu. The rest leans toward seafood - no surprise - but there are selections for customers who do not choose fish. - Food Quality: High. I had Wild Mushroom Risotto ($34) with Asparagus, Asiago and Parmesan Cheese. Very tasty. My wife and 1 of our friends had Roasted Sea Bass and Mussels ($36) which they really liked. The 4th entree was Sablefish ($38)...a mild, soft fish our friend thoroughly enjoyed. Although it was not on the menu, our server noted they offered Manhattan Clam Chowder ($12) which I quickly ordered since tomato based chowder is sometimes hard to find. My wife started with a Caesar Salad ($18). Dessert was special. As the birthday boy, I was given a dish of ice cream with some nice little accompaniments. My wife had the Chocolate Mousse Cake ($16) and gave half to me. Our friends shared the Caramel Basket ($14) with "Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream, Flambeed Bananas, Fruit and Whipped Cream" in an edible basket. Since they don't serve bread for free, we also got a dish of sourdough ($5). - Service: Fine. Everyone from the young woman at the reception desk to our server, Matthew, was friendly and helpful. Matthew has a dry sense of humor so that can be received as funny or eccentric. - Value: Depends. Everything is top notch from the food to service to ambiance. However, unless you order several items, you might go home hungry. Portions are small.....except for dessert. - Parking: There's more than before! A lot was created across the street that's very convenient to nearby lodging, restaurants and shops. Payment is required from 8 AM to 6 PM at $7 per hour. Cons: - Food Portion: Small. Emphasis is on quality, not quantity. That's great, but we forewarned. - Value: Again.....it's in the eye of the beholder. For us it was very good, but not 5 star. Very disappointing and disrespectful experience. Our family of four--three adults and one child--went to this restaurant for dinner around 6:00 PM. My son went upstairs first and was asked how many people were in our party. He said four. When we all arrived, we were immediately told, "We have no openings for tonight." There was no greeting, no smile, and no explanation. I asked if they required reservations. The receptionist said no, they accepted walk-ins, but there was nothing available. What made this even more confusing was that we could see many empty tables. We went downstairs, and we saw several people walking into the restaurant. My husband asked them if they had reservations, and they said no--they were walk-ins. Because the situation did not make sense, I called the restaurant and asked if they were fully booked. The woman who answered said no. I asked if we needed a reservation, and she said no, we could simply walk in. I hung up and went back inside. I spoke to the same woman I had just spoken to on the phone--the same person who had just told us there were no openings. She then claimed that she meant the bar was closed, not the restaurant. That was clearly not how the situation was explained to us when we first arrived. I asked why we would be directed to the bar when we had a 7-year-old child and an 18-year-old with us. We obviously were not looking to sit at the bar. We were wearing slippers because our hotel was only a block away, but we were dressed decently and appropriately. Regardless of how a customer is dressed, everyone deserves to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. I told her that if our skin color was the reason we were denied service, then that was deeply disappointing. We are customers too, and we can pay for our meals just like everyone else. Being treated this way in front of our children was unacceptable. She insisted that she did not say what we heard her say. I challenged her to review the security camera footage if cameras were available. I cannot speak for anyone else's experience, but our family felt singled out, unwelcome, and treated differently from the other customers walking into the restaurant. Whether intentional or not, the way we were treated left us feeling discriminated against. This was not about being told there was no table available. It was about how we were treated and the fact that what we were told in person did not match what we were told over the phone. Customers deserve better than this. read more

Fresh out of ocean taste of oysters, sashimi and scollops were the taste of the ocean. We had a really great experience at The Oyster Loft in Pismo Beach. The food was delicious across the board. We ordered the roasted bone marrow and the Brussels sprouts (two separate dishes), and both were fantastic. The bone marrow was incredibly rich and flavorful, topped with beef tartare, capers, parmesan, and crispy fried onions -- such a great balance of texture and savory depth. The Brussels sprouts were equally impressive. We also ordered a dozen oysters, and they were fresh and beautifully presented. My only small disappointment -- especially given the name Oyster Loft -- was the oyster selection format. They offered one choice per half dozen, and I would have loved the option to mix and match to try multiple varieties. When you're somewhere known for oysters, it would be fun to taste a range. Service was fantastic -- attentive, friendly, and professional without being overbearing. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a great vibe. It was a little stuffy inside because it was crowded; opening the windows might have helped, though I understand it was winter. It just happened to be pretty warm the day we were there. We sat outside, which had the stunning view, but came with lots of noise from the people below - people who were enjoying the restaurant that sits below this one and those walking along the boardwalk. If you want a quieter experience, I suggest that you request a spot indoors. I came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday night to celebrate his birthday. Our server was attentive and checked on us multiple times throughout the evening. We opted to order a variety of small plates and shareables instead of entrées, and I think we made the right choice! We went with a dozen raw oysters from Morro Bay, a half dozen charbroiled oysters, the tuna tartar, the jalapeño poppers with tuna on top, and the Caesar salad. The only item I think I would skip is the tuna jalapeño poppers because it just didn't do it for us - you only get time on half the popper. Everything else was phenomenal and we would re-order in a heartbeat! We both ordered a cocktail and a beer/glass of champagne. The birthday celebration comes with a complimentary scoop of ice cream, but we also ordered the crème brûlée to share. That crème brûlée is definitely worth the purchase! Great location by the pier, this restaurant was on the second floor and had a really good view. They were not super busy when we walked in but were told that for a party of three the wait would be an hour and a half. They did offer the bar seating which you can also access the full menu. The bar stools were a bit uncomfortable but doable. Our server was pleasant. He went over and described the different types of fresh oysters choices. We went with the Kumamoto and Oishi oysters and they were fresh, smooth, and very good! The Octopus small plate was very well prepared! It was excellent!! Our entrees were delicious! Though the scallops dish was not as buttery and flavorful, it was still enjoyable. The grilled salmon entree was very good! Loved that crispy and salty salmon skin that added texture and flavor to the nicely cooked salmon. The pasta linguine was very flavorful and savory. If you're in Pismo and want a dining experience that nails both flavor and views, The Oyster Loft is an absolute must. From the moment we sat down on the patio overlooking the ocean, we knew this would be something special, and it did not disappoint. We kicked things off with oysters, the Kumamotos from Humboldt and the local Grassy Bars from Morro Bay. While both were fresh and briny in the best way, the Grassy Bars completely stole the show. Incredibly creamy, ultra-fresh, and just the right balance of ocean essence and sweetness. A must-order! We also shared the Brussels sprouts, which were perfectly done, crisp on the outside with that caramelized crunch, and a subtle sweetness that kept us going back for more. For mains, we tried the scallops and the pork chop. The scallops were perfectly seared, tender, and set in a rich, velvety sauce over a bed of corn that tied the whole dish together. The pork chop was another winner: juicy, slow-roasted, and cooked to perfection. The side of bread pudding that came with it, such an unexpected pairing, but somehow it worked beautifully, adding a sweet-savory depth that made each bite interesting. We ended with the caramel basket and the peanut butter tower. The caramel basket was a showstopper, the flambéed bananas were honestly the best I've ever had. The peanut butter tower, recommended by our server, was another hit, rich, indulgent, and worth every calorie. This must be my lucky month because this is the third restaurant I've been to this month where everything we tried was absolutely delicious in a year where this hadn't happened yet. Lovely setting and the interior decor was really nicely done with plenty of cool deco nautical elements. This is a place that works really well together! Great menu options! The chef apparently is both French and Japanese trained and it results in a lovely menu with some pretty awesome food. Decent wine list with some creative drink options including a smoked old fashioned. We decided to sample many of the amazing starters. First off, there is an off menu Manhattan style fish chowder that is perhaps the best we've ever had...and I grew up with this and this is my preferred style. The fish was so fresh and generously portioned but the broth was out of this world! I think the French training had a lot to do with this perfect soup. Next time we are in the area, we are coming here just for that! We also tried the crudo sampler with 3 good sized portions each of salmon, hamachi, ahi and albacore. Loved it. The ahi sesame chips were so good! The wasabi Cole slaw put it over the top. It was appetizer sized but I could have just had two plates of these and called it a night! We shared the grassy bay oysters from Morro Bay but there were plenty of good east and west coast oyster options from the raw bar. I usually get Kumamoto oysters but we were encouraged to try the local Grassy Bay ones and they were wonderful! Another great find. We had the Charbroiled oysters also and my partner loved them so much. I really liked them too but I really was lukewarm on the melted cheese on them. So for me personally, I will just stick with the raw bar next time. We parked down the street easily and there is also a lot across the street. The service was superb. I made a last minute reservation for a Saturday evening during dinner rush. While I was not able to get the table I requested (my fault), they still did their best to accommodate my guest and myself. The ambiance was beautiful and romantic. It is dimly lit which might be an issue for some but I loved it. read more

Great food and atmosphere! Came with reservations for a Friday evening and it was packed. Service was good as well and staff were nice. As for the food, a bit overpriced with small portions in my opinion but think it makes sense given it's right by the beach. I got the pasta and everything on the menu also tasted good from the salmon to the Cesar salad. There's a good amount of parking nearby but can be kind of busy so I recommend reservations and allocating time for parking. I'd return if I wanted a nice date night spot but nothing too special in my opinion in terms of the food itself. read more

My husband and I celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary at Oyster Loft this evening. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. Our server, Sawyer, was charming, attentive, and made our special evening even more memorable with his excellent service. The food was outstanding from start to finish. Every course was beautifully prepared, from the appetizer to the dessert. I ordered the filet, which was perfectly cooked. My husband ordered the scallops and said they were the best he's ever had. This truly was a wonderful anniversary dinner, and we're so grateful we chose Oyster Loft to celebrate such a heartfelt milestone in our lives. We look forward to coming back. read more
