The quintessential dive bar. Good drinks and beer, friendly bartender, local entertainment. Not necessarily clean, but fun.

We are visiting here for 9 nights.... We stooped in after walking around the village of nice shops! We open the door to go in....and everyone is looking at us! One girl was really starring at me! I asked ... why are you staring? This guy was also starring at my husband. So we left! So we go back to the village to go antiquing. And wanted to use the restroom so I got one drink since there are no bathrooms around. The owner crossed talked to a regular and was pissed at him right in front of us.... No one said a thing! So we got up and said bye...and the guy bartender said be careful when you return home to Orange County. I said what? He said where Anaheim is. I said we don't live there! We have 3 homes close to the beach. I was pissed and obviously we left! My husband and I pat the poor regular on the back and left that rude! Smoke smelling dirty bar! Luckily the bathrooms were just cleaned. This place by all the reviews should be closed for their horrible miserable lives! It's totally obvious the owner is very unhappy! He was drinking at least 2 drinks while we were there! What a loser! And white trash! The only good thing the girl Jennifer was the only one nice and normal! read more

There's not a lot of places that are open pretty late in this town. We were recommended by a waiter at a restaurant that we were at earlier. Just wanted something to drink, a nightcap. It's a not a small bar but decent size. There's a pool table and it happened to be open mic night. A few singers showing off their voices. It a full bar so everything is available. It's a local spot as it seemed like everyone knows each other. Also the ceiling had a cool concept with their decoration. It's like chewing gum stuck to the ceiling but it looked like crinkled up dollar bills. Its bars bar with all the deer head and hunting gear hanging on the walls. For a place that was the only thing open late, it was fun. read more

Many would characterize Bill's as a dive bar. I characterize it as a classic California bar where locals hang out and has good, strong drinks. It was a bit smoky for us as the breeze was blowing the smokers smoke into the bar from the back patio but other than that we had a blast. Shots, beers, good jukebox on a weekday afternoon. This is a classic, old school, wood and brass California bar that is perfect to drink and socialize. I caught my game on one of their TVs and others enjoyed pool. We are definitely going back for more good times the next time we head to Grover Beach and AG. read more

Dude these guys are a hoot! The bartenders make it fun, and the karaoke on friday and sat night is a blast, and if you aren't a complete wuss you will get along fine in this bar. Its a dive bar. Period. Probably one of my favorite weekend activities since i have moved to the five cities area. There can be some rough folks inside, but surprisingly they are nice and polite if you just talk to them and be respectful. What a concept. I guarantee if you walk in this place looking for trouble, you will find it. This is my kind of place. Love it! read more

I did not have a good experience at Bill's Place. It was extremely crowded and my wife felt unsafe.

The beginning of the night was very fun, great atmosphere, however the end of the night did a total flip. When I went to close out my tab, i asked for my card and the owner/bartender Bill told me that they couldn't find my card so they "added gratuity" When he added way too damn much and when I questioned it he got very very angry and out of control. Because I was mad, I told him he had a pedo stache, after I said that he was screaming at the top of his lungs that i'm a "fat bitch!" and "get this fat bitch outta here" he had security take me out which they didn't have to touch me. He follows me out the back door onto the stairs and threatening me telling them to call the cops when I said "my dad is the cops bitch" Needless to say I won't be back ever and he's a mother fucking crook! This is a great dive bar and one we always visit when in the area. Our friends that visit us in AG are always treated to Bill's and they all want to come back. Good drinks and great service. Chris is one of the bartenders and is a great guy. He has made us feel welcome every time we have stopped by. Yes, it is a little rough around the edges (and the bathroom is not exactly pristine), but we really enjoy Bill's Place. Give it a shot! read more

Security needs to do their job. I came in with 4 other ladies (all 28-30 years old) for a friend's birthday. There was a drunk group of guys next to us (all married by the way) who kept harassing us and grabbing us. We asked them to stop several times, but as they drank more, it just got worse and the grabbing was getting uncomfortable. When I went over to security to say my friends and I were being harassed and didn't feel safe around those men, the security guard told me to "ignore them, move, or leave." Really disappointing that this was the place we decided to give our business that weekend and even more disappointing that security did nothing to actual make a group of young women feel secure. read more

My friends and I came to Pismo for my husbands 37th birthday. We are ones who love a good dive, local bar. Them being the kinda place we like to hang out in at home. We were there for a couple hours and really enjoyed ourself. Shane was awesome! Made us feel right at home. Made great drinks! Went there for my birthday for one drink at midnight and though they claimed to be open until 2 and multiple people and bartenders were drinking behind the bar we were turned away. Bummed as bartenders ourselves from out of town and understanding a slow night they were very rude. Won't be back. read more

Awful. I have frequently attended this bar for over 20 years. Usually a very "the place that knows your name" atmosphere. However, this evening, I was accosted by the bartender for zero reason. This is a man, I've spoken to and shared children photos with for almost a decade. He was so angry that he broke and threw glasses. He chastised me in front of more than a dozen people, for a long moment. I asked him if I needed to leave...he said he needed to "go outside to be less angry with me". After I left, told my friends that it was warranted because "he just doesn't like me". I would be very careful spending my money here. Horrible experience here. Three patrons of the bar explicitly told my sister and I we did not belong here, because we are black. He pointed to the rifles and animal heads on the wall to further his point. Also, it was difficult getting drinks here. Men on the downstairs level blew cigarette smoke in our faces when we tried to dance, on our own. I will never ever return. If I could give negative stars, I absolutely would. read more

Bill's Place is a very fun dive in the heart of AG Village. They have billiards, karaoke, and line dancing (check their calendar). This is often a last stop on pub crawls because it's open late and the crowd gets more interesting the later it is. Bill's is the quintessential country-style dive, replete with mounted deer heads, spit balls on the ceiling, and lots of kitsch. The bartenders are always nice and they hustle to keep the crowd happy. The crowd varies, but you're sure to get a decent drink and a laugh before you leave. They have a nice back patio, but it tends to be taken over by cigarette smoke. The ladies restroom is not in the best shape, but I've seen worse. read more

About six months ago, one of my friends got roofied at Bills and the bouncer could not have cared less - didn't try to look into the situation or kick anyone out even though we told them what happened. That should have been the last time we walked into Bills, but oh well. Second time we visited (just last week), I watched the same large and extremely rude bouncer physically assault two older hispanic men and shove one to the ground on the sidewalk and then yell at me when I called him out on the unnecessary aggressiveness. I spoke to the police about the situation and they agreed that the bouncer was unprofessional and could have hurt a bystander on the sidewalk. Yes, both men were definitely drunk but who wasn't? It's freaking Bills. My friends and I pointed at least four other men that made uncomfortable advances on us which deserved to kicked out far sooner than those men. My point is, the bar leaves a bad taste in my mouth every time I walk in there. All my ladies out there, spend your money somewhere else. I'm only writing this to share my experiences, in hopes that the owner or someone in charge will change the ways things are handled. It's a shot in the dark, but I decided that if it means less people getting hurt at this bar - it's worth my time. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. My friend and I came in for a couple drinks last night. As we were trying to leave my friend asked for her Credit Card back with her tab to close out. The owner of this bar was acting like she didn't give him a card. From where I was sitting I saw him tuck her card behind the cash register. As to hide it. Then this man continued to get more aggressive with my friend. Even went so far as to kick us out and call the police on us. It was so bazaar. We weren't drunk. We were just trying to pay our tab and leave and this owner/bartender was getting more and more aggressive with us and he was trying to steal the damn credit card. Bill's is an awesome five bar! Don't come in here expecting the 5 star treatment because that's just not what it is. Come here expecting to pay cheap amounts of money for alcohol and ready to sing karaoke on a Friday or Saturday night. Bartenders are always super friendly and are happy to have you. The place gets packed on the weekends leaving standing room only, or dancing if you feel like boogeying down. There's also a patio outside in the back with ample room for hanging out and having conversations for when the inside music may be too loud. I would recommend Bill's to anyone looking to have a low cost, fun night out! read more

I'm writing this under my new yelp account because I can't access my old yelp account. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. If I could give - stars I would. I just GOT CUSSED AT BY THE EMPLOYEE AFTER THEY GAVE ME THE WRONG CREDIT CARD AND STILL HAVE MY CARD. I went there on a Friday. It took over 30 mins and being acknowledged and ignored twice to get my drinks. They actually offered me the drinks for free but I insisted on paying for it as I understand it gets busy and I still wanted to leave a good tip I also understand the pandemic has been hard on the restaurant industry. Little did I know when I did this, they returned the WRONG CARD to me and I didn't find out until I went back to northern ca and tried using what I thought was my card to get food (it was already canceled) so I didn't use anyone else's money but that means my card was somewhere. I called immediately the restaurant and the guy told me my card was there I explained I'm bank in NorCal and can't get it. He then told me to call the next morning and speak with the owner. I call two days later, I ask for the owner and explain I'm a customer and the rude woman hangs up on me! I call again and this time a guy answers and I tell them I've been very patient and my next step is to write a review to which he puts the phone down and is talking with the lady and I can hear them talking shit and she says "she'll talk to me" and hangs up again!!! So I call and very upset this time tell them they still have my card and hanging up wasn't okay and the lady starts changing her tone a little bit and I said I wanted an apology for hanging up and the rude service to which she starts YELLING AT ME AND CUSSED ME OUT. Having worked in the restaurant industry I've never given the wrong card to the customer (the person that ignored me/helped me that night I suspect was drunk) but overall this is the WORST service and bar/restaurant experience ever. On top of the major inconvenience I've faced not having my card and now having to order a new one and not being able to talk to them about cutting my old card up or my refund or ANYTHING! read more

I just moved here a couple months ago and weve been coming for about two months for about two months. In the two months that we've been going we've seen the bartender start fights with at least six people. My husband went to go to the bathroom and when you get back he told me he saw the bartender doing Coke in the bathroom. About 30 minutes after this we see the bartender dragging someone downstairs who is unconscious and throw him in the parking lot. The whole time we were here the bartender is serving him and never cut him off. And then he just left the poor guy on the ground barley awake. If he's too drunk to stay in your bar he's too drunk to drive. But the bartender let him drive off. I don't think we will be coming back to the bar. And if you want to avoid drama you shouldn't either. We heard Ralph and Duanes across the st is nice so we will be trying them read more

This was the worst place for a drink and the karaoke host on a Saturday night sucks. He only let's the regulars sing and everyone who might be visiting should go somewhere else to drink. Oh dude, no one has reviewed Bill's? It has a freaking stuffed lion crouched in its front window! And many moose, deer, and buffalo heads on the walls, not to mention guns. And dollar bills stuck to the ceiling. We were in town on a girls weekend on 7/7/07 and, of course, there were brides everywhere, including at Bill's. Despite the very trash-hick surroundings, the one bride we congratulated and talked to a little bit was quite cute and not trashy. She actually said she didn't know why they were there, but that she was having fun. We were there on Karaoke night, and the singers were all pretty good. Apparently they take their Karaoke very seriously at this bar. A lot of country songs, as you'd expect. The MC was also very good at both singing and MCing. The crowd was full of young hicks, old weirdos, a few rockabilly types (one chick was the most rockabilly person I'd ever seen in normal public surroundings; she had all the right stuff), some punks/goths, and a bunch of "regular" people either kinda sightseeing at a country bar (like us) or young people stuck in their hometown (I think this was the majority). Anyway, it was entertaining, and they had Firestone beer - the brewery being not far up the road in Paso Robles. Awesome! read more
