But sometimes you need alternative choices on merchandise, or quick in and out convenience if you are in this shopping center for some of their local treasures like Sweet Cow or Lucky's or Neptune or Kim & Jakes or Pharmaca and you think of something else and this store will save you a separate trip. I saw something on their outdoor display area when I was leaving Lucky's and went in to check it out. It was what I had thought about to solve a yard problem, it was on sale and worked out well. The owner was there, he's had the store for about 10 years he said and I thought it was greatly improved since it's days in the 80s and 90s as Rad Hardware.

When she finished with him, the phone rang and she immediately answered it without even acknowledging me or saying "one moment," despite me standing right in front of her. I believe in-store customers should be acknowledged and assisted before phone calls. Thankfully, a cashier noticed I was waiting and stepped in to help. My pickup took less than 5 minutes. If she hadn't stepped in, I would have waited even longer. While I appreciate the cashier's help, the lack of acknowledgment at the service desk was frustrating and disappointing.

I watched an elderly woman with thick accent ask the checkout clerk for "dirt" and she got quick, polite full-service help without being passed-off to others; "You're planting flowers? I have just what you need!!" Lastly, I stopped to watch staff training on the knife-sharpening machine (photo below); I received a sweet "Welcome!" and a free knife sharpening on my next visit! This was a busy Saturday - and I'll go out of my way to visit again. Thanks all!

I haven't felt this at-home since Thanksgiving '98 when Grandpa and I road a tandem bicycle to Olive Garden and filled our bellies to the brim with bottomless salad and breadsticks! (He's passed away now - gluten allergy) When walking into the store, you may shed a tear, because at this Ace hardware, you're family. The kind staff and I always hold hands as I browse about the store...and NO it's NOT because they're concerned for my safety!! Stop being silly, ya silly goose...Maybe a wrench, maybe some rock salt, heck maybe even just a random bottle of hot sauce...the options are endless! They have everything, at very reasonable city prices. Once I've satisfied my nearly insatiable craving for browsing the aisles of doorknobs and extension chord, I check out, exchanging a knowing smirk with the cashier...and on my way home I KNOW I'll sleep better tonight..:because "Like a good neighbor, Ace Hardware is there"!

The clerks that where knowlegable are gone replaced with younger clerks who have no modivation, do excersizes at check out counter, took 3 people to return an item and repurchase of same item in different size. If you need help, they could care less excluding one new older woman on 12th Street that was great. I will now go to Holly Street Ace which is further. But called them today and they had the same item (which was discontinued at 9th and 12th Street Ace's) and offered to order in additional quantity I needed to finish a job. Great job for Ace on S. Holly items were there when I went to pick up.

When I asked an employee how often it was re-stocked, they shrugged and said, "I dunno" and pointed me to the manager. Really?? Okay... The manager said he was too busy to help me, a paying customer. When I asked if there was someone else who wasn't too busy to help a customer, this "manager" did the same shrug and "I don't know" AND THEN TURNED AWAY FROM ME. His name badge said Andy or Andrew. Unreal! Like a Twilight Zone episode! Never in my life have I experienced retail staff as rude and incompetent as this. I could see why he was "too busy to help me" though, since the store was torn apart and seemed to be getting renovated while they were open - it was a huge mess with junk all over the floor in the aisles, and trip hazards everywhere. They didnt have them is stock but helped me out by cutting a 1.5' long, 1 3/4" diameter piece of PVC that did the trick. Very helpful and friendly staff and even asked me if I had a Ace Rewards number, and if I was a veteran or over 60 to qualify for that discount (appreciated the reminder because I forgot to ask).
