I headed straight for the tool section, where Jude helped me track down the exact drill bits I needed. Both Jude and Nathan were excellent--helpful, patient, and friendly. The product selection is solid, but what really stood out is the level of customer service. It's rare these days to find retail staff who go above and beyond, and these two certainly did (even humoring me as I reminisced about my own time working in retail). As a funny side note, I even got the chance to chase after a customer and his dog after he accidentally left a dog bone behind at the counter. Unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough to return it--maybe he'll return for his purchase! All in all, great selection, great service, and a team that makes shopping here a genuinely positive experience.

But sometimes you need alternative choices on merchandise, or quick in and out convenience if you are in this shopping center for some of their local treasures like Sweet Cow or Lucky's or Neptune or Kim & Jakes or Pharmaca and you think of something else and this store will save you a separate trip. I saw something on their outdoor display area when I was leaving Lucky's and went in to check it out. It was what I had thought about to solve a yard problem, it was on sale and worked out well. The owner was there, he's had the store for about 10 years he said and I thought it was greatly improved since it's days in the 80s and 90s as Rad Hardware.

When she finished with him, the phone rang and she immediately answered it without even acknowledging me or saying "one moment," despite me standing right in front of her. I believe in-store customers should be acknowledged and assisted before phone calls. Thankfully, a cashier noticed I was waiting and stepped in to help. My pickup took less than 5 minutes. If she hadn't stepped in, I would have waited even longer. While I appreciate the cashier's help, the lack of acknowledgment at the service desk was frustrating and disappointing.

I haven't felt this at-home since Thanksgiving '98 when Grandpa and I road a tandem bicycle to Olive Garden and filled our bellies to the brim with bottomless salad and breadsticks! (He's passed away now - gluten allergy) When walking into the store, you may shed a tear, because at this Ace hardware, you're family. The kind staff and I always hold hands as I browse about the store...and NO it's NOT because they're concerned for my safety!! But called them today and they had the same item (which was discontinued at 9th and 12th Street Ace's) and offered to order in additional quantity I needed to finish a job. Great job for Ace on S. K did not "Ace" the customer service vibe by a long shot. Not a good feel to be corrected impatiently. I needed help, after all. It appears others don't like their service at this True Value and I'd heard this since my first hardware trip in Denver about 14 years ago. I thought not long ago that the ownership had changed. After the previous day's experience, I was willing to try them out, regardless. Having a bike shop upstairs that I needed to visit was icing on the cake. It may be shouting into the void, but I want to share that True Value hooked me up with parts, advice/instructions, in a prompt encounter that made me feel heard and valued. This'll be my first hardware stop on the Krameria to Yosemite section of Colfax from now on. Thank you. 4.5 stars.
