Harbor Freight has everything you've ever wanted, tool wise, at bargain prices, but there's a catch. Most of their stuff is imported from China, so it won't stand up to heavy use. If your looking to buy an arc welder for your business, you'd do better at home depot, but if you need it for a one time project or occasional use, Harbor Freight's got you covered. I buy smaller tools and odds/ends here at there many weekend sales (GREAT DEALS!), but I see plenty of other folks buying the bigger stuff. Prices can't be beat and it's fun just to look at all their stuff. The store reminds me of a made in China ACE hardware. Cheap quality- Cheap price. If you aren't too keen on spending your life savings on tools that you need for a certain project but will rarely or never use again, it is Harbor Freight to the rescue! They are the best place to grab tools for DIY projects or things that you don't need to be top quality- you just need it to get the job done. If, on the other hand, you will use something a lot and need it to last, you should run away from here very very quickly because, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for! I went in today to use my 20% off any one item. The cashier refused it. Come to find out there is very small print at the bottom that lists all the things you can't use it on. Pretty much anything useful they have is on there. I had to move on with my project so I paid the full price for the engine. All I can say is live it up. I will never buy anything there again. Good store, never fail to enjoy a browse. Staff have a tendency to be more along the lines of "do you want it or not?" than "how may I help you sir?", but Nordstom Beverly Hills this is not. A vast selection of tools; I wouldn't know where else to go for alot of the things they sell here. This store has HORRIBLE customer service. I came in to get straps and asked Sheryl where I would find them and she spouted off in the rudest way pointing to their location. After getting in line with the item I watched as she spouted off to both employees and customers so I set my items down and left I cannot believe a company like this would allow their employees to speak they way that this woman did. Well, here it is a year later since my previous review. Purchased their 2.5hp router and a bunch of bits. Right out of the box this Chinese piece of crap wouldn't even hold the bit. Couldn't get the collette to tighten. Took it right back and ordered the wonderful Hitachi from eBay. By the way, the Hitachi comes in a nice carrying case and is a two-part router. A plunge router and fixed base router with a fantastic motor. Over the past year I've purchased several other items I've had to return or throw out due to workmanship and quality. I bought their 1/2" corded electric drill and used it a few times and the forward/reverse switch broke. I took it apart and repaired it but it broke again. A $29 piece of junk I simply tossed in the trash. Bought the powerful and exceptional Hitachi and it works like a champ. At the same time I bought their crummy 1/2" drill I had purchased their hammer drill. Darn! It wouldn't drill even a half inch into concrete and I was using expensive concrete bits. Took it back. Bought a pencil torch and it worked for about 10 minutes then wouldn't accept butane anymore. Took it back and got another. Same problem so this headed for the trash. Bought some dykes (side cutters) to do some electronics work with. Cut several pieces of 22 gauge wire (thin stuff) and they got so dull they wouldn't cut warm butter. Tossed those into the trash. The store also looks like hell. Never clean. Never straightened up. Advertised items may or may not be on display. Sometimes prices are wrong. Some of their people are nice and helpful. Others? Some look (and act) like they were homeless last week and don't have a clue! What I said in my previous review stands. If we keep buying cheap junk made in China we are hurting ourselves in 2 ways. 1) We're buying CRAP for a cheap price and 2) We are OUTSOURCING our own jobs to Chinese who work like dogs for 10 to 12 hours for very low pay. I'm sorry 'bout that, but there are 7 BILLION people on the planet. I didn't create them and I'm not responsible for them. How many is 7 billion? To get an idea measure a grain of sand. I did. Multiply that size and weight by 7,000,000,000. You'll find that's enough sand to fill up the back of one of those small Japanese trucks! I'm buying American made when I can (not Black & Decker or Craftsman which is made in China) or at least Japanese for the quality. read more

I go to this store all the time, and love it normally. Today the management dropped the ball on an employee who tried all she could to help an elderly customer with her check, but was not knowledgeable enough. The cashier called the manager for help, but got blown off 3 different times. With a line of customers the nervous cashier kept trying, and eventually we figured out how to call tellecheck and get the check authorized. Unfortunately by then, the register had already declined the check, due to trying it 3 times. Since telecheck already authorized it, all the manager ( Monday evening manager) had to do was manually override, but he didn't. So now, that the check went thru telecheck the funds are frozen. I told the manager I was disappointed with "his" service, not the cashiers. He blew me off, and blamed the cashier. Such a sorry excuse for " management ". Not to mention we had already taken our purchase ( a generator) to our car, which he never even said to bring back, although we did anyway, since we are honest people. Harbor freight is great hardware store to have as an option to Home Depot and Lowe's. It seems like everything in the store is always marked down so never buy anything at full price. Make sure you get on their mailing list so you can get the 20-25% off coupons. They also have coupons for free items without purchase. We have used the free coupons for the digital multimeter, scissors, magnetic parts holder, headlamp, tape measure and flashlight. If you are planning on going to Harbor Freight always make sure have on coupon, but if you forget you can use your phone to look one up. If you are looking for a tool you will use once or rarely then Harbor Freight is your place. If you want a heavy duty quality tool then you may want to think twice about Harbor. An example is we just bought a pipe flaring and bending set for $9 with a 20% coupon, which would have been a minimum of $20-30 at Home Depot. We were willing to take the risk because we are unlikely to use it very often. Certain items are no brainers at Harbor but don't expect their Pittsburgh brand to last as long as other sturdier brands. It's tough to beat the prices though! If you take Harbor Freight for what it is then you will have great success! read more

Decided to go to the new Harbor Freight due to a mailer we received to pick up a cordless drill.I had some trouble locating the new location but once inside it was more than worth it.The store was well stocked with available friendly help and unlike the store on mission there were no lines at the checkout.I approached a register and was met with a brilliant smile and a warm, "I can help you here!" and we were lucky enough to meet and get helped by a young lady on her way to a definite management position by the name of Lydia. Personality plus,sharp as a tack, this girl defines customer service.I was smitten. So pleased in fact when she asked for my phone # I'm quite sure that I blushed yet recovered momentarily and asked her for hers. She fielded my response like a pro and I watched as her hands expertly flew over the computer and she turned with a smile and said, "If we use your coupon this way the savings will be more!" Place is great. Excellent prices and made in China is getting better quality wise from what I seen versus in the nineties! And for all of you that think that us made stuff is better then why are they not selling it there or anywhere else? If you want quality you go online and you buy made in Japan or made in Germany and spend a lot more money. You get what you pay for. I think what you pay at Harbor Freight Tools is definitely worth it in most cases. Did I mention that warranty is great too and return policy? Employees like Chris and Cheryl and some other names that I can't remember are very helpful! One employees name zARRENNE is very rude and arrogant! When asked at the register for a phone number you have a right not to give it to them and still be able to pay for your tools. So I thought. I came up to the register to pay for my tools and zARENNE ask me for a phone number which I chose not to give out! He replied that not only that she was not going to accept my coupon but he also was not going to ring me up if I did not give him my phone number so I had to go to another register to another cashier that without any problems took my money and I was on my way. THIS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE AT TWO DIFFERENT TIMES WITH zARRENNE. So from then on when i go there I try to avoid him. I should not have to do this. If this happens again I will definitely go to the manager and let them know. Been going to a mission location Harbor Freight Tools in escondido since the 1990's and this is not the way to treat your repeat long-time customer. I also should not have to explain myself to him how long I've been going there it should not make any difference you should treat your customers with respect and he definitely does not.This location is great except him and I give this location one star.
