Bummer. I love Harbor Freight. Yeah, I know a lot of their stuff is garbage but a lot isn't. I had one of the most unpleasant experiences at this one today though. It seems a lot of the bad reviews have to do with their level of service. Yep. I concur that their service is as bad as some of their most turdly products. I was asked for my number to "see if I was in their system". I don't recall ever being asked that before. When I questioned why the lady said, "You can either tell me or not". She was obviously annoyed at me. She said that it's for keeping track of my purchases. So I began to give my number and when I started she rudely interrupted with, "Area code!" Yeah.....I started with area code. Then I stopped and asked why she's being so rude to me. "No one's being rude" Yeah....you are. She invited me to go to a different line to which I said that's fine but is that your boss. Nope. She was the boss. What a shame that the store supervisor, Katie, ran that show. Just tried to do a return of a Tap & Die Set that seemed to indicate it would create threads on a 1/2 PVC pipes, but when I opened the set, the dies were all too small. Was asked by the clerk to scan my license. This is JUST a week after us Oregonians have learned of the entire Oregon License Database being hacked most likely by a Russian hacker entity. To make matters worse, the manager wouldn't over-ride it, and when I called their customer service on the phone from the store, they insulted me by insinuating that because I made a return 6 months ago their "system" believes I may be buying things and using them and returning them. UNBELIEVABLY INSULTING for a frequent local customer over the last 7 or so years. You lost me as a cutomer forever! I'll buy from Home Depot from now on. I don't know about you but I'm a fan of Harbor Freight. It's one of those love/hate relationships. I love the store and all the inexpensive tools and items they have, but I also hate it for the same reason. I spend too much money when I go there. But if you have the coupons for free stuff and the 20% off coupons on an items. It works out. I didn't even know this store existed until earlier today. I'd never really been south of Holgate. This has got to be the cleanest Harbor Freight I've ever been in. I picked up a tarp and it barely took me two minutes to find it. Most all their stores are easily laid out and to be honest, I'd rather just wander and see what I don't need but want to buy. It's sad. I've ended up with work horses, a sander and a drill that way. Bring on the circular saw!! If you're a home repair person or you just are handy and like to tinker (like me) You don't need to spend a lot of money to get some decent quality merchandise. I rarely get angry and frustrated but this store almost pushed my limits to the edge. I originally bought a gift card for my Dad around Christmas time a few months ago. The store is is a fucking hot mess. Why the hell do you want my phone number and information? It's just a gift card purchase. Anyways..... My sister then found a tool my dad would like that was on sale. Since them damned 20% coupons are always floating around, it would be a great bargain. Boy do bargains are a total shit show............... My sister called the store and the guy on the phone sounded like he got his shit together. The item was placed on hold and all I had to do was go in and talk to an employee to retrieve such item. That is when things went downhill..... I go in and I talk to the cashiers. They had no fucking clue what I was talking about. I started to get agitated and showed them what I needed from the store. The dimwitted guy searched the computer then took a slow ass stroll around the store finding the item. Minutes later, he said there were 3 in stock but he couldn't find it. I was in total disbelief. Did he go the extra mile and try to find it, hell no! Since I'm pretty good at finding items based from past years working in retail, I asked the manager and she pointed me where the item was. I found the item in plain site and it wasn't hard to find. I grab the item and head back to the cashier line. I realized then this place sells utter and complete crap. A few customers kept coming in the store wanting to return items but they didn't have a receipt. The cashier just said there was nothing they could do and offered no alternative solution. Again what is the point of asking for customer information when buying their shit in the first place? You would think it would be in the system. The manager that somewhat helped me earlier actually dealt with a return after a few rejections from past customers. After paying the damn item and telling the guy I found the item he was too stupid to find, I went home and told my sister what happened. She was pretty confident it was the right store I went to and the cashier knew what he was talking about when he supposedly put the item on hold. This location in particular is pretty bad, the workers have no usefulness besides ringing people up and collecting customer's info that will do no positive good!!!! read more

To be very clear: we did not purchase anything here. Our car started smoking, so we pulled up in front of this store. Completely unsure of what to do, we hit the internet for some answers: we either needed more coolant or oil, but we didn't know how to refill those. We went into the store hoping one of the sales associates would help us out. We asked a clerk who got our saving grace from the back of the store, Charlie. She walked out to the car with us and checked out our engine, filled our coolant and checked our oil. She used her own personal oil out of her car to help us out. At the end of all this, she wouldn't even let us give her a cash tip. This lady is absolutely one of the kindest individuals I have ever met. Thank you so much Charlie. Man they have a lot of toys in here! Prices are reasonable and the selection is at times surprising. You will even run across items you might not expect to spot. My last visit I needed a couple of small vice grips and knew I would save a few $ stopping here over a retailer like across the street. Before that I was in checking out their security light selection as a comparison to others I've been looking at. Sometimes I wonder about the overall quality of some items but that's just a matter of having a watchful eye and knowing what you are looking at. I will be back. read more

I'd never been to a Harbor Freight store before, ever, despite being over 50 years old. I went in because I saw their price on 2032 "button" batteries was very good, around $1 each; while everyone else charges $5 to $10 each for these. I walked around, they have a lot of cool stuff. Mostly tools. I also bought a 4 pack of nine volt batteries for my little guitar amp for $7.99, a battery operated nose hair clipper for $4.99 (yes, after you reach middle age you will need one) and a folding knife for $4.99. Good deals.. At the cash register I was asked my phone number, I said "911" because I don't just give out my phone number on demand. This triggered some kind of traumatic flashback for the cashier because as soon as I paid, she clammed up and just left my four items sitting on the counter and walked away. I put them in one of their fancy handle bags, as she should have. I'll never visit this store again due to the rudeness of their employee. read more

Terrible policy and customer service. Went in to do a warranty and upgrade to a better product as well as return an unused tool. Turns out they rang up the warranty wrong initially and harassed me about the warranty. Next I tried to return a new item in the box with the receipt and the very bottom of the receipt was torn and the date not visible so I was denied the return. I spent $260 on better product for the warranty stuff and left another $200 worth of merchandise there as they wouldn't do the return. The manager treated me like a transient trying to return stolen merchandise so I will never go back. Horrible experience and worse customer service. read more

My interaction with Employee: Charitie on 04/3/2017 at 6:19:35pm left me offended, confused, and further negative impressions. As I was standing in the only line available to purchase my (1) item, I saw your employee help another customer(s). She sold some sort of protection plan for "5 bucks" as I could overhear her from the line. I stood 3 people behind the next available cashier, which at that point was only one register. As the first cashier was done, I stood in line idling until the next available cashier. That's what people do in line. They stand there waiting to be acknowledged until the next available cashier. Simple, right? No, not in this case. I suppose I was in the wrong line. Because Charitie announced to the other people around me that I was apparently in the wrong line. Not sure how I ended up in a wrong line since a group started after myself. She furthered embarrassed me by asking the customer behind me if I was in face in front of him. I thought well maybe I did something wrong? No. She made a point to single me in some sort of display of power. Perhaps, her name tag read Assistant Manager. I said to her that I was in front of the customer that she asked. He then agreed with me. Still confused and hesitant to proceed forward, I walked towards her. Now, why do I have a reason to cut in line? I've already waited 5 mins for the customer in front of me in the ONLY line there was. I'm already exhausted at this point and do not want to argue or disagree with what she was exclaiming. Now, to me and most typical customers. We assume if a cashier is at a cash register, it is open. Apparently not, because Charitie's response to being on a register was to "pull from other the real line". There was no sort of friendly or courteous acknowledgement for waiting in line or friendly greeting as a customer approached. I had no idea "pulling from a register" meant that she can only pick and choose who to assist in purchasing their items. Now, I typically pay at self check-outs to avoid interactions like these. No choice at Harbor Freight which is understandable considering the location and business model. Now, there is a straight forward approach of asking a question in a nice manner and actually meaning it, however, this was not the case when I was greeted by Charitie. Her initial introduction was poorly received by me and to other customers around me. The fellow that was behind me looked perplexed as to why he was even asked because he was standing visibly behind me and a few feet further from any line. Still confused at this point, I continued on with my arbitrary customer number I provider her. Once, she confirmed my name as "Ramon" she said, "you have a pretty tattoo". I brushed it off as a meager attempt to redeem her terrible and awkward interaction that she lost control of. She gave me several very convincing "Sorrys", however, it felt fake because she proceeded to look at the Harbor Freight coupon ads. Not sure why. Maybe she was going to offer me that "5 dollar insurance" that she sold the previous customer. I have no idea. It was not the right time to flip through it, however, and considering the circumstances. Maybe she was making a judgement call and thinking that I may be a transient considering that area is low-income and high crime activity. I get that I may not have looked like I had a ton of money, but I was purchasing an item at a store that I thought did not discriminate against appearances, race, color, religion, etc. I felt offended in every category. I am an Asian-American with strong roots in Portland. I felt singled out for no apparent reason. Come on, I was standing in line and she specifically chose to make a scene. And then creepily offended me further with her comments on my Japanese Tattoo. My customer service rating for this company and location is poor to never recommend at all costs. And in regards to her appearance? She had a poor tan, terrible hair dye job, and looked as though she may be vain. So, typical blonde girl that has no business being in a tool related industry that required more knowledge of equipment and service rather than selfies. For what its worth, I hope this sheds light on the locations customer service because I do enjoy the company overall in terms of products and pricing. I suppose that is why Customer Service is least valued at this location or perhaps overall as a company. read more

After several visits and only a few purchases I have found the staff to be rather poorly trained. They walk past you throughout the store I have seen them walk past older folks trying to get things from the shelves with out offering even a positive word. When checking out it takes an incredibly long time. They over socialize with customers in a way that is not customer service but rather customer annoyance. Couple of the staffers can hardly keep a conversation with you as they jump from topic to topic almost as if they are on drugs. One younger female staffer was great but in 7 visits I only dealt with her once. I have yet to find an employee that really knows where things are in the store that they work in. have not heard of one employee that actually knows what the tools are used for. I spent about $150.00 in the first month and have officially spent the last dollar that this store will get from me. I may try again down the road. Lots and lots of room for improvement. The floors are clean. The parking lot is clean. Plenty of bums out front to give your change to and drug dealers to give the employees their crack. South East can be a slum. Businesses like this don't elevate that perception when staffed with such lacking folk. read more

What can I say, this is a harbour freight and they sell crap and they sell it cheap. There are some gems but mostly turds, but sometimes a turd is all you need when you're never going to use a particular tool again. Had to wait in line a long time because their credit card machine was broken and there was an 8 year old kid in front of me trying to redeem the coupon for a free tarp while buying a $1 paintbrush with a 25% of coupon, and he had grabbed the wrong tarp got the free gift. Be sure to be on the lookout online for a 20% off coupon because they give them away like candy. they also always give away something free in their weekly flyer that you receive in the mail like a tarp or a tape measure. their pricing on tools is exceptional but you don't always get the highest quality so you can't count on them for every tool that you'll need but I've gotten many tools from here from saws to drills to wrenches. even got a really inexpensive's portable car Jack. workers are usually pretty friendly and helpful although in some stores they might be hard to find aside from the cashier. read more

I recently visited harbor freight and let me tell you it was an amazing experience ( for being a tool store).Jesse, who was cashiering at the time, was so helpful on saving me money, on top of being super friendly and knowledgeable about the product that I was purchasing. He saved me an upwards of 20 bucks and had a smile on his face while doing it! Purchased an Avanti sprayer on 7/5 around 2pm for $224.99 to paint the outside of our house. Got home around 3pm. Primed it and got ready to paint. About 10 minutes into the job the nozzle on the gun somehow bent and sent paint everywhere. Couldn't clean the lines and it was useless at this point because the gun was broken. Took it back into the store at 5:55 p.m. and my partner went to buy a new one at Home Depot. The kid who sold it to me (Mohamed) was super nice and apologized. Said he needed to get his managers approval code to waive the 20% restocking fee. In comes Elizabeth..one of the rudest and least professional "supervisors" I've ever come across. Without as much as looking at me, tells him no not waiving it and begins to walk off without even asking what happened or when. That's when I lost it and told her if it was going to be a hard no then she needs to explain why: I could understand if I had been using it for weeks and brought it back, but less than an hour is ridiculous and they can't restock a blown up product anyway. She walks back over, taps on the counter where the return policy is and says "well you can exchange it or otherwise its 20% I don't care" and walks off again. Absolutely insane. Like a shit product that caused more damage to my house and car when it exploded than it was worth..and a product I used for less than 10% of the total job. She needs some training and you better believe that I will be following up with the general manager tomorrow. read more

I've been waiting for some time for a Harbor Freight to open up in SE Portland. SO it was exciting to see the "Opening Soon" banner up. I've been in the store probably a dozen times since it opened up. I was pretty impressed when I walked in and saw how big and clean the store was. It appears bigger than any of the other stores around Portland. This store is able to stock their entire catalog, and then some. As far as the customer service reviews I've been seeing, I have yet to run into the issues that any other reviewers have had. I've always been able to find somebody when I had a question. Once in a while the checkout line stacks up pretty quick, but they usually get on their radio and call for another checker. One reason the line backs up, is because they are one of those stores that wants all your info. "Please fill out this card", but if you're a regular shopper there, you know that the stuff they send you is worth the filling out of the card. They send you coupons for 20% off, and usually a couple of free trinkets. (they might be cheap, but they are free, and I always cash in on them. Who can have too many flashlights and screwdrivers?) read more

I got some Harbor Freight clamps. I used them for one day and 2 out of 4 failed. I went to take them back and because I couldn't find the receipt they wouldn't take them back. I just left them there and walked out. I don't need junk clamps and will reconsider shopping there again for anything. In the past I have purchased a lot of tools there. But lately the tools are getting worse and with their 90 day warranty (just slightly better than the 30 second, 30 step warranty) I don't use the tools enough to work them hard enough to see if they will survive. I got a miter slider saw and it failed within 6 months but they had given me the added warranty for free that day so they replaced it. I can go get a similar saw (Ryobi) at Home Depot for $179 vs the $139 at Harbor Freight. The Ryobi is better made, more accurate, has a 3 year warranty that is included in the price and comes with a blade. The blade on the Harbor Freight is extra. I can also take back the Ryobi if something happens to it within 90 days and no receipt is required. The Ryobi doesn't hurt the ears like the Harbor Freight saw and once my Harbor Freight died I spent the extra money and got the Ryobi. Some stuff that Harbor Freight carries is okay. One of the big scams they pull is giving away free batteries. The batteries they are giving out are the carbon zinc batteries which are not even close to the alkaline batteries. Alkaline will outlast carbon zinc by a factor of 10 in most situations. Another scam they pull is to have many different part numbers for the same product. That way if they get a bad review on that product they use the other part numbers. The clamps that failed they have 4 different parts numbers of the same clamp. I wrote a bad review on one part number but the others are the ones that show up. I posted the same bad review on the other clamps but it never showed up. I think they deleted my posts because they were critical of the clamps. With Harbor Freight one has to be very careful on purchasing products. Any power tools it is wise to consider something like Ryobi with the longer warranty and better built products. read more
