I bet it's a blast to work here. The man at the register was talking excessively to customers to the point of them trying to walk away, looking very uncomfortable. I placed a pick up order from online and the cashier called the pick up order to be brought forward. The customer service and cashier argued back and forth about whether or not I even placed the order or was at the right store. I confirmed the information through the cashier while he was quite literally hacking up a lung. I can only assume how condescending the customer service people were with how the cashier was also sour to me. Eventually someone else came up to take the line and told me I could go back and they'd fulfill my order. Dumb and dummer were trying to redirect me to purchase a different bag of salt even though I'd already paid for what I wasn't getting. The system ace hardware was pretty stupid and this review isn't about how they couldn't fulfill my order, I don't blame the customer service people for the mix up because that was out of their control. The customer service employees (several. Very braindead expressions) just shrugged and said the only thing to do was cancel the order through my phone. Thank you for reading this novel of a review. So I walked into the hardware store and asked where I could get some glass cut, frame in hand. They told me the help desk in back. As I walked up to the desk could hear the employees talking about who was going to handle it, funny everyone left the new guy standing. Would I like glass or plastic, I asked for plastic so it doesn't shatter again. We don't have plastic that size. Ok glass then. Wait I'll go check. BTW 25.25 width. We have a piece of glass. 20 min later, he comes to me and says they only had one piece and he broke it. So can I order a piece? This is a great hardware store, very clean, well stocked and organized with a breadth of products. Of course they have all the typical plumbing, electrical, paint, nuts and bolts that one would expect, but also so surprising finds. It's always worth a trip perusing their kitchen aisle for some handy gadgets, attractive dish towels and even decorative candles and small vases. The garden section often has whimsical yard art, something I'm always interested in, planters and garden tools. When I need new filters for my furnace, replacement light bulbs or keys made, I always stop here. During Covid I was able to buy 2 fluorescent 48" bulbs online for just $5.99; they had the bulbs ready for curbside pickup within an hour which was super convenient. Staff is friendly and when they see me wandering aimlessly, always approach me and offer assistance. That is much appreciated as I'm usually here for something specific so the sooner I can find it and be on my way, I'm happy. I needed some specific products/brands for a project to paint the linoleum floors in my two ugly bathrooms. After some on-line hunting I found that Ace had everything on my list. There was a slight issue with adding tint to the paint, but it turned out all right. Mainly because the staffer helping me never gave up! I've been shopping at the store for years. I had an emergency situation and I called ahead to have one small item place on hold. Because I knew I was cutting it close to store closing time. I got there five minutes before store closing and had the door locked in my face. I was told over the phone that they would hold it for me. I let them know I was 10 minutes away walking on foot and I was told that it would be at the counter waiting for me not that I would have a door slammed in my face. Waste of time and money. Went in at the end of the day, but still time to mix paint. Clerk made a big fuss over whether she could mix paint and had to check with a manager. She had ten minutes left in the day and I had the color picked out when I walked in. She insisted I pay for the paint ahead of time. I've been coming here for five years and never had to pay in advance. Then she couldn't mix the paint. Technical difficulties with no hope of resolving before the end of the day. What a difference two trips to Broadway Ace can make. The first time the young man who helped me was courteous and went out of his way. Today, I walked in to get some paint and a tall young woman - probably 20 - stood there right next to me with her nose in her phone. After a minute of not finding my particular paint, I walked up to her to ask if I could order the paint. She said "yes and they can help you order it over there." I had a weird project I needed help with. I knew what the end result needed to be, but needed help with materials and logistics. I think Dan was the guy who helped me get all my ducks in a row. He drilled a thing for me, recommended the right screws, and got me on my way pretty quickly. I know the prices here are a little high, but you're paying for not only convenience of the location, but also the neighborhood-y helpfulness of the team working there. The only thing I wish they would do is carry better energy drinks. (Like the Guayana Yerba Maté cans or even a darn red bull lol) Also, I love l their gummy snacks by the counter. I went in today with a friend who was able to give me a ride to retrieve a few air air filters since it's been hard to breathe in my older apartment while the city is saturated with wildfire smoke. I grabbed 2 for my household (the limit per customer) and my friend grabbed 2 for their household. Before going to the register, I realized that I had grabbed the wrong filter for my fan. When I went back to grab the right one, I was approached by an employee that was tending to that area. Before I could finish telling him that I needed to grab a different filter he grabbed one of the filters from my hand and told me that there was a limit per household. Im guessing that he thought that my friend, who had already purchased their filter for their company/business was with me, and receptive to it being a misunderstanding. I told him that I was the only one shopping for my household and that I just needed to grab the right one. He cut me off before I finished. I asked him for confirmation that the limit was two per household/customer and he passive aggressively shrugged and walked away without a clear answer. After that, I patiently waited until the aisle cleared so that I could get the filter I needed, and then proceeded to the register to purchase the filters with no issue (the cashier was kind as I was shaken up by the stressful encounter and helpful with answering questions). I've been shopping for my hardware and home needs at Ace for 12 years, and this location for the last 2 years. I've never encountered this kind of service before. I needed assistance and instead I felt like I was judged and scolded without any discussion or answers. I understand that he was more than likely stressed as the demand for filtration devices has gone up. This year has been hard on retail and service workers. I can relate as I'm in a similar situation. Normally I can shake stuff like this off as I consider both sides of the story and have many years of customer service experience. But this was harsh, and unacceptable. My friend was extremely disappointed (they're a regular as well), and a customer that was just behind me in line was also put off and apprehensive about approaching the filter selection after being a witness. I know that everyone is stretched thin. So many of us are. Recently, a part of my family was directly affected by the recent fires as they anticipate losing their home. This week has been exhausting on many levels trying to make sure that everyone is safe and has what they need. Today I took a moment to get what I needed to be healthier In my home, and left the store feeling awful and almost bullied. Ace has been incredibly consistent and helpful to me and the surrounding community for a large number of reasons just this years. I'm beyond thankful that your shop has worked hard to restock those filters. But this encounter has definitely made me feel anxious about returning. I went in for cabinet handle screws, and Bob helped me for a solid 10 minutes, for a purchase of 4 screws that cost 25 cents apiece. The cabinet handles I had were from China and used a metric sizing scale, which Bob figured out, even though the American-sized screws (8-32) were almost fitting and could have been mistaken for the correct fit. He carefully measured everything to make sure I got the right gauge and length screws. He was so nice, and SO much more helpful than any of the bros at Lowe's. I wouldn't have gotten the correct product without his help. All of this for a $1 purchase. This is going to be my go-to place for all of my DIY needs from now on. read more

Paint match machine is broken so don't waste your time, you're better off just picking a color that is close from the wall of samples. Employees are nice on the other hand but could use some proper training on what things are for tools, materials etc. Also the selection is large but can be limited, like some basic supplies like rolls of good painters plastic and painters caulking you would think would be plentiful but can be hard to find. They need to learn a little more about what the best products are and stock them instead of just having a large selection of things people rarely need or use. I was missing some screws for a bed frame so decided to take half of the unassembled frame to Ace. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by Lori who gave me directions to the screws. On my way, I walked past the key counter. Been wanting to copy my car and my house keys for a while now. Dan informed me of my options and started on the copying while I looked for screws. He found me when they were done, and even offered to help me find the right screws to put my frame together. That's good customer service!! We tried out a dozen different kinds and finally found ones that worked. I'm really amazed with both Lori and Dan. They were both very helpful and made the hardware store a non-frustrating trip. I was In desperate need of someone to program a chip key for my daughters vehicle I called around. everywhere was about 2-5 day out to be able to come to her car and do a key program. luckily I called Ace hardware and they put me through to a gentleman Named Victor he was very professional very knowledgeable about key chips/fobs he knew exactly what was needed to be done to get it working he went above and beyond asking his general manager about doing a service call usually you go to them I was amazed when we called back and said I can do the service the very next morning that to me is GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! I went in with a list and came out completely organized and ready to go. The biggest project today was to hang patio string lights, the industrial kind. I purchased 120 ft of wire, two poles ( pre drilled on site ) hooks and such... the intention was to make a custom to my situation, simple and cost effective solution that could weather well. My sales associate worked with me for as long as it took to get every item on my list and design the light support. He listened, suggested, sketched and pondered till we found the solution and materials. All this while my 13 year old was playing around and creating funny distractions. I love going into my neighborhood Ace Hardware that is always meticulously clean and well organized and full of seemingly attentive staff members only to find out that their interest in me is because they believe I am stealing. A few days ago I visited this location for all the positive reasons I stated above, doing some shopping for miscellaneous items, and always acknowledging the staff members when they asked if I needed help but not needing it, when suddenly the associate Zach quite aggressively asked me to empty the contents of my right pocket. Confused I said "what?" to which his face got visibly more angry and repeated the same request. Confronted with the absurdity of the notion that I was stealing and the sheer audacity for him to accuse me I could do nothing more than laugh and reply "no". He radioed his immediate Supervisor I'm guessing, if I recall correctly: Emma. I asked the formalities for this process since they accused me of stealing and I had no intention of complying with the infringement of my personal rights to those with no authority but I also had no desire to waste the time of the Police but if that's what it took for me to protect my personal rights I was willing to wait. They decided not to continue with their accusation and needing to shop more I requested the Supervisor Emma to direct me to batteries. There I revealed the item Zach was so sure I had stolen was my cellphone with nothing else and allowing her to search the entire contents of my backpack and she declined. She then informed me it was she who told him to watch me to which I was even more shocked and then she walked away telling Zach who accused me not to worry about it. I was really pissed but really needed to buy the items I had compiled in my hands as well as a few others and so I did so and left. It's the lack of the acknowledgement that an apology was due to me from both Zach and Emma that really hinders me from ever spending money at an Ace hardware again and gives me reason to influence all of my family and friends to choose any of your other competitors. I truly hope my concerns don't fall on deaf ears and hope no one else visiting this location in their weekend work clothes gets the same treatment ever again. read more
