It's true that the items sold here are not premium quality products made to last a lifetime; however, sometimes you need a tool that you're only going to use once or twice, and it doesn't make sense to spend a fortune on a better one. That's where Harbor Freight comes in. It's the dollar store of the hardware world. Most of the items I've bought here have worked well. The only items I don't recommend are their alkaline batteries. Staff is unfriendly, will walk right by you and the register line is slow and unorganized ALL THE TIME! I actually bought stuff and I went to my car and immediately returned my items...I'll pay more elsewhere. This place I would never recommend! Went in for my husband to get what he needed me to pick up. 1) they are the most unhelpful, unfriendly bunch of people working that I can honestly say I have ever met! 2) they have a promotion for a free gift and no one knows about it and then lie to my face that they don't have a free gift until I show them the email I got then they say "oh well you have to look throw out the store I need a bar code". Ok so you want me to take a lot of crap off the shelf and bring it up for you to ring up and then have you put it back? Instead of one of them just helping me find it! I was so upset when I left I literally went over the curb and ripped god knows what off my car! I will definitely be calling the district manager about this! The store manager is just as unfriendly! And if any questions are asked they can look at their camera footage just to see how "helpful" they are! I do have my receipt so I have time date and register! I was trying to purchase something using Apple Pay and the register was not working. The employee said that other registers were working to accept Apple Pay but the manager would not open another register and they would not tell me how long it would be until another register would be open. Sometimes the tools you get are not the highest quality but when I need something to use once or not that often I usually try and get it here to see if it works out because the prices are fair. I don't recommend shopping at Harbor Freight as despite Maine law few of the employees take Covid-19 precautions. This morning I shopped in the Harbor Freight Store in South Portland Maine. A sign on the door said masks required to enter the store. Shoppers and employees. When I got to the register the Cashier, Justin (manager) was not wearing his mask. When I asked him to put it on before I stepped up to the register he responded. "if I wear it no one can understand what I am saying". I had to prompt him a second time before he put it on. As the manager he should be setting an example for other employees. I don't plan on shopping at Harbor Freight again. Cumberland County in Maine has the highest Covid-19 infection rate in Maine. Prices are good and the quality has never been bad for me. But the South Portland Maine store never has the big price items in stock when coupons for them are out. Ok, the tools are mostly imported...not complete crap but close. The issue is more with the young girl(s) working the registers- Heavy attitude, not helpful like a normal hardware store, and won't bother to tell customers about offers available to them and act like the coupons cost them money personally. It makes you want to tell them to keep their imported crap. They have some cool stuff and you'll probably walk out with a bunch of stuff you didn't go in for but LOOK OUT for COUPONS!! You can sign-up online to have them mailed to you. Keep a close eye on wire gauges and motor sizes. There are no deals that are "too good to be true" here. You get what you pay for. purchased a portable garage about 2 months ago. The first snow storm snapped the metal structures like it was twigs and tore a hole in the fabric. Called harbor freight about warranty replacement the manager said there is nothing he could do under the warranty because it was a damaged of natural causes. The young girl at the register needs to be fired. Uninterested, rude and unhelpful. Took my cash, gave me change without even looking at me, told her I was a dollar short, said "Stand over there" pointing behind the register. Helped the next guy in line who was elderly, using a credit card, scanned my items again , in addition to his and tried to charge him for mine until I stopped her. Once that was fixed, she just stood there without saying a word as the man tried to give her his card for at least 20 seconds and then pointed to the pin pad. Products are mostly decent if you know what to look for and can avoid the really cheap, underpriced stuff that tends to be crap. Their customer service is totally nonexistent, starting with a manager named Ace who is just plain rude and surly and flows downhill from there to the rest of the staff. Today I went into the local Harbor Freight and when I couldn't find what I was looking for, I asked a man that was leaving a cash register, where the item was that I wanted. He looked at me and said "Sorry, I have punched out and can't answer you. You have to ask him". The other person was walking toward us and I asked the first one," You can't answer a question for me?" The second person said " That's right. He has clocked out and company policy says that he can no longer have customer interaction." I asked if that meant that he could not answer a simple question and was told that that was the way it was and he couldn't and wouldn't answer my question due to company policy. Evidently company policy means that it is OK to make a smarmy statement, (" I punched out and can't help you.") and pissing off customers is OK if company policy is followed. All he had to say was AISLE THREE or whatever. This used to be one of my favorite stores but I will pay more and go to a store that appreciates my business and doesn't have policies that conflict with good customer relations. read more

My husband and I had a less than acceptable experience with Tasha on Memorial Day, while taking advantage of the store's great sale. She was not helpful, not pleasant, and not nice at all during check out. She didn't provide any information when my husband asked her a direct question in regard to one of the coupons he was using. I recently went to Harbor Freight in S. Portland, Maine to purchase a belt sander. This was to be until I could find one that I really wanted. I got home opened up the box and noticed right away this had been used. I returned to the store only to be met by a person claiming to be the manager. This person was so rude and said we do not sell used or demo tools. Another worker jumped right in and claimed that he personally checks all returns for proper shelf returns. When I took the sander out of the box and showed him the work stains and a belt on the sander, he still said it wasn't used or a demo. When I went to get a refund the so called manger was no where to be found. He was hiding out back and sent someone else out front to authorize a cash refund. Never will I ever purchase a power tool from Harbor freight. While I was in line I told everyone behind me to check their items for signs of use.
