Anyways I had 3-4 things to bring back. Turned into a big hassle and I had purchased them over a week while I was up there. They gave me cash on two smaller items. Would not give me back on two items cash said the register will only process them as gift cards " what the heck " I have major brain surgery during which I had a stroke. I over the years Lost more cards than I have used. They could not explain it to me on common sense level only that once the register does that they can't reverse it. I was not happy I mean we are talking about $ 76.00. They said they would go get the manager and of course the manager was busy. They need to tell people oh just bring it back for a refund oh by the way it might be in the form of a gift card which when the person loses it to bad. I am stopping down the hill the next week at Home Depot first such a shame I can't buy and support crestline businesses. The tab probably will be around $ 500.00 this next time. Shame shame shame :(

She commented in *front of me* to her coworker about me needing "too much" change when I asked for it. Another time, she complained to her coworker about me saying 'thank you' too soon while she asked about making a donation during payment, again right in front of me. She also seems disgruntled when I ask where an item is. She is unpleasant all around to deal with and makes me dread having to get something here.

From Silver Lakes, those big-box stores are a 40-50 mile round-trip. When you figure in the cost of gas, it make's SL Hardware even more attractive. Christine and the Staff are knowledgeable and very helpful. For a small place, it is amazing what they have. I usually check them first before traveling the long distance. That is, if I'm not also making the long round-trip because of shopping for clothes or other things NOT available in our community.

They had nearly everything per my "wish list" and beyond that offered better variety (e.g., in lengths of electrical wiring) than the big stores. Even still, while I was indeed amazed with the inventory, that wasn't the best part. It was Aubern that took my initial call and met me in person as I arrived. She very proactively found almost everything with a problem-solving-can-do spirit. She located items quickly, coordinated with other staff to confirm specs, found alternatives for the rare item or two that wasn't in stock, and helped me find my most cost-effective bundle of parts when all was said & done. They will guide you through the a-la-carte screws, nails, nuts, and bolts with expertness, making sure that the style, strength, and size of the hardware fits your project's needs. The prices for most items are competitive with big box stores-- items like PVC pipe, wood filler, and hardware are cheaper at Altadena Hardware in a side-by-side comparison to big box stores. If you purchase materials like wood or pipe, they can cut it for you for transport! The selection of paint, hardware, garden supplies, light bulbs, power tools, adhesives, and most other typical household hardware needs are excellent. Based on size, they don't stock as much lumber or appliances as big box stores. Very helpful -- they do cartridge exchange for Soda Stream!! And have many options of Soda Stream flavorings. They also sell local honey up at the cash register! Altadena Hardware is my first choice for hardware needs!

About two months ago, I was in the store and had some issues getting the right product, twice the…read moreproduct on the shelf had been used previously and was missing things/damage, to the point that I went to Home Depot 30+ miles away rather than deal with Ace. The next day I go into Ace for my refund and they never processed it in their system so I had to file a grievance with my credit card. Pain in the butt, but it is what it is... Today I go into Ace because I need to repair a bathroom sink and drain. I also went in to get a new door knob for our front door. The front door knob was used and put back on the shelf and was damaged by the previous owner so the lock mechanism was pushed out of the door knob and broken completely. The drain and drain extension that I purchased had some sort of Vaseline or caulk adhesive type coating on it, in the packaging and I assume from another previous user who returned the product. I go to the counter and I tell the lady These two items seem used and didn't work so I need to return them. I told her and showed that the door knob was broken and somebody returned it. I need to replace it. She examined the items while I went and got a door knob that was not broken or previously opened and a sink drain that was not previously opened and that was the right size for my needs.... Measure twice next time... lol I get back up to the counter and the lady tells me that they can't accept my returns. This is an hour and a half after I purchased them the same day, same cashier... I looked at her incredulously saying this is how I received them. They didn't work. I need to return them. She says she'll talk to her manager, and the manager says we're not going to accept the return. I told the lady that's fine, this isn't the first time you guys have done this, I'm just gonna place a review, argue it with my credit card company and make sure as many people as I can possibly find know how this store treats its customers. I also asked the lady to write refused return or something similar on the receipt so it is documented and took a photo so it is time to stamped. So yeah... If you don't wanna have your money stolen from you, be sold damaged and used product, refuse the ability to return your product when you have a receipt and it's even the same cashier at the register, take the time to drive the 30 extra miles to the big box store rather than support your local economy because this is what they do to locals. I have reported their business practices to the Ace Hardware corporate office as well as the state Attorney General's office. Anybody who's had a similar experience as I have, I strongly recommend you do the same.

What a great selection I found. Not just the part I wanted, but so much more. I went back yesterday hoping to find a stem extension that I could not find anywhere on the internet. I approached a clerk and asked, and he took me right to it. I explained that the replacement kit I purchased on line did not fit quite the same as the one I am replacing. He told me of its compatibility with another more "readily available" line of faucets. He seemed to know a lot about plumbing. It turns out he is the owner. He and everyone I have dealt with there are very approachable, helpful, and knowledgeable. This is now my go to store for all my DIY projects. Their selection is remarkable and the staff just seem to enjoy their job. It is 20 miles from home, but it is exactly what needs to be. In a time of online ordering and tracking numbers, it is great to go to a place with fair prices, great selection, and impeccable service!!
