The relative was only in their care for a day before dying, but in that short period we were remarkably impressed with the staff and the facility. It was very clean, the family and I really liked the simple but pretty artwork and the comfortable accommodations for family and friends who were visiting the facility. I wish I'd taken photographs and particularly of the artwork on the walls. It seemed very clean to me which is important and the staff was very nice. I met a couple of the chaplains and they were wonderful. One of the chaplains also followed up with the key family member after the death to ensure that they were doing OK and provide a grief counseling referral if needed. It's not easy being at a hospice inpatient facility, but there was a lot to recommend this place. Really good experience despite the difficulty of the circumstances. read more

My grandfather was admitted to Harbor Hospice for 9 days and we were very pleased with everything there. They were incredibly attentive, kind and intentional. From the first meeting with Mr Dickerson to the end of my grandfathers life, the staff were so great. They were always available but also never interrupted our family time. I am so thankful for this facility and absolutely recommend Harbor Hospice if you are in the unfortunate circumstance of looking for a hospice company. Harbor Hospice, Jasper location failed to provide behavior service to Black patient, after their Lufkin location after 4 hours of care sent patient to Jasper for behavior care, in less than 1 hour after patient arrived at Jasper location, the patient was sent to Jasper hospital. No assessment or treatment performed by Harbor Hospice in Jasper, and no notification to family. The Jasper hospital nurse reported patient required no medical needs or emergency, the report stated due to behavior diagnosis. The Jasper hospital nurse stated we normally don't accept patient with behavior diagnosis. However needed to run test to confirm no medical reason to retain. Jasper hospital nurse reported no medical reasoning to keep and no emergency existed. The Harbor Hospice nurse and DON in Jasper, after seeing Black patient, made the decision not to assess and not treat, a racist decision, they did not complete medical reports to hospital, omitting medication as they ordered to transfer to Jasper hospital. Harbor Hospice in Jasper did what the family feared, no service and no treatment for the patient due to the color of patient's skin. The patient's family has experienced the racism from Jasper starting in the 60''s and 70's. We thought now in 2026, culture change and racism less prevalent, but Jasper's Harbor Hospice proved culture of racism is prevalent and deeply rooted. Each of the patient's doctors and nurses are concerned of Harbor Hospice action, seeing no need for patient to be sent to hospital and no treatment resulting in severe mental issues. My explanation to them was clear, no service and no treatment by Jasper's Harbor Hospice just because patient is Black, same as the 60's and 70's, as a result patient had sever mental break down. Patient arrived in Harbor Hospice (Lufkin and Jasper) care walking, talking and communicating, in less than 5 hours she lost all of this. I don't recommend Harbor Hospice service and care, especially if you are a Black person needing hospice or behavior care. read more

This is such a hard time of life but the personnel and facilities were so professional and compassionate

I would not recommend a single person to put their family member in this facility. CNAs and Nurses are not doing their part and have bad communication with patients. A lot of upset and angry patients that have been let down due to their unprofessionalism. High turn over rate with every role. Rude and unprofessional staff. Complaints from down to the social worker down to the Chaplin. Upper management is not consistent. read more

I found their staff mean and uncaring. It took one hour and twenty minutes to get a response for a pain pill and they brought the wrong pill. They were rough with my husband and the facility was low class. I cannot spend the time telling you how horrible it was. read more

They stole personal effects from my deceased family member's body and now those items are missing, they didn't sign the death certificate for so long that we only were able to pick up our family member's ashes two weeks after they passed (they withheld the knowledge that the personal effects were missing), and it took threats of legal actions to get them to finally begin to look for said missing personal effects. I'm not sure how the agency doesn't have a 10 star rating! I've recently had the pleasure of coordinating care for a mutual client with this agency and worked directly with care manager Mindy Cuevas. Mindy was so kind and compassionate, she went above and beyond to make sure everything went perfectly for our mutual client to ensure she had the easiest transition possible. Mindy worked way into the evening hours and up early working on things again in the morning and all through the weekend with me as well. I can not tell you how rare this type of dedication is and how wonderful my experience with this company has been. Our mutual client, her family and myself were beyond impressed with the caliber of care this agency provided. Keep up the great work!! read more

If there is .0001 star to choose that is what I would give harbor hospice. I hired them, and in two weeks left them to hire another hospice company. I can tell you our experience with Harbor Hospice was horrible. Their nurses are horrible, their emergency hotline horrible, they only want to drug the patients. They do not listen to the family caregivers at all. I called them for an emergency, our loved one was lethargic. I called them 3 times in an hour and we had no call back. I took our loved one to the ER. The nurse that was supposed to come to our house for the emergency call came 4 hours later. They said call them first they will come and help right away, that was not how they delt with my emergency call. Not to mention, 5 different nurses came to our house supposedly to assess and take care of the patients, that was within 2 weeks time. Harbor Hospice had so much turn overs, and that says alot about a business. To top it off, their nurses were rude, and barely stayed 10 minutes to assess medically. They did not provide tools needed when asked. There are other hospice care for your loved ones around for you to hire. Stay away from Harbor Hospice. read more

I understand there are good and not so good reviews posted, and I can only report what I witnessed. My mother spent her last 10 days in the Harbor facility on Kirby Dr. I spent 9 of those days there, approximately 5 hours a day. I was very impressed with the entire staff. The staff checked on her quite often. Her pain medication was administered when they said they would. The doctor checked on her every day and gave us a straight- forward prognosis. They brought in a Catholic priest per our request and prayed with my mother and us, which gave my mom great comfort. Overall, the entire staff were all very kind and I'm thankful Harbor gave my mother as much comfort as possible. read more

I do have to give stars for the nursing staff separately, 5 stars for the actual professional nurses there, now as for the orderly, hired help, no Im sorry, 1star and thats only for at least showing up. Imagine this: Your loved one is on their last days of their life, can hold themselves up, look totally unrecognizable, and you are dealing with what may be your last goodbye. The orderly brings in food and is mumbling something under her breath to the other assistant orderly, then, with attitude, drops the foid tray on the table/shelf 8ft from the patient bed says, "yeah so this is the one that tells his family we ain't giving him No Food", loud enough so we can all hear. When asked, excuse me mam, hows he supposed to get his food if you have it way over there, she replies, "he don't want it, and then says we aint feeding him". I don't think she gets the nature of the patient situation. I believe this person takes what most of these patients delusional, medicated, and frustrated situations too personal. This is a job for someone with understanding that is there to guide them and help them with eating and keeping them comfortable. These are not hotel guest, these are patients, patients in need of empathy. Not saying you have to kiss their ass, but dont take anything they tell you too personal, if you cannot work in that environment and within the basic standards, then I suggest another career choice. The doctor and staff at Harbor Hospice Houston (11990 Kirby Drive) cared for my cousin recently during the final days of her illness. I switched her to them after an unsatisfactory experience with another hospice group. Harbor was fabulous and I highly recommend them. The process for admission was quick and efficient. The administration, doctor, and staff were attentive, concerned, and extremely caring for my cousin, myself, and all our visitors. It is a beautiful facility that is clean and well kept. I could not have been more pleased with my experience there. read more

if I could give this place negative stars I would. First off the fact that these people do not listen to the family about allergies to medicine and how the patient is over all is crazy to me. I had to ask multiple nurses over 3 times that my grandfather is allergic to a specific drug that they might use on him and they refused to do their job until I was standing over them watching them FINALLY update his wrist bands and his chart. we've told these people to stop sedating my grandfather on multiple occasions now and they continue to say he's in pain or moving too much and becoming agitated when they just met this man and don't even know his character. my grandpa's constantly moves his legs so he is able to keep the blood flow going and because he's a busy body and doesn't like laying down in bed for long. you think they would listen but surprisingly no, they sedated him yet again and every 2 seconds try to give him pain meds despite him literally being unconscious and unable to voice his pain because of the doctor unethical decision. now here he is again going days without food or water because he's in a deep sleep that he's been trying to fight to get out of. these "people" are inhumane animals that only care about making someone's death happen quicker by dehydrating and starving people to literal death and people who lack basic knowledge of ethics despite them literally going to school for it. so to everyone that is looking into this place I suggest you run far away especially if your family member is known to try to move anything even a finger, hates laying in a bed all day, and probably breathing too hard because these people clearly do not know what they are doing nor do they care that they are helping HUMAN BEINGS and not a doll. read more

We reached out to Harbor Hospice for my mother for at home hospice care. We were discharged from the hospital around 4: 40 pm and assured our meds were in route. We did not receive meds until the next day around 1 pm. A RN did not come to the house for initial assessment until almost 10 PM. Our CNA is the only reason I will give this 2 stars she was great, efficient and caring. One day my mother started seizing and due to her mouth being locked we could not effectively administer the med needed to help. We called Harbor Hospice and was placed on hold to speak with a RN. The RN did not answer so we asked the lady to get their ambulance here as we did not want to go back to the hospital and would rather just go to their in house facility. About 15 mins passed and we still haven't received a call for ETA or anything. We called Melisa ( the rep) and asked if she could look into it. She asked if a RN had been there today , I said yes but mom was not in distress at that time. She said she would look into it and call me back. We are now at about 25 mins of seizure. Desperate for help I called 911. Unfortunately, we ended up back in the hospital. Due to their lack of response we had to put my mother through another full work up and more needles and testing. I do not recommend this hospice. read more

While some of the nurse assistants were good and took good care of my mom, overall, we did not get the care we expected for our mom in this inpatient facility. First of all, it took them almost 5 hours to pick her up from emergency room when they had touted their ability to do a quick transfer given their proximity to medical center. Secondly, we had to ask for everything for my mom -- a bath, a catheter (which it took forever for them to put in), additional pain meds, etc. Also, we never received any information on signs to look for when a loved one is close to passing. I would not have trusted them to care for my mom if my sister or I were not in the room. read more

This is a long overdue review; needless to say, I have been behind on a lot of duties since losing my mom, but I'm slowly getting back into the groove of things. There's a story to tell that leads us to Harbor. My mom had been diagnosed with smoldering Multiple Myeloma about 2-3yrs ago; smoldering meant it wasn't active so she was being closely monitored by her oncologist. My mom suffered a fall on 3-31-17 in which she attempted to break her fall & slammed her upper left arm in a doorway which broke the upper arm bone most closest to the shoulder and also suffered a hairline fracture of her left hip as well. It was deemed by the ER physicians that she needed to be in a skilled nursing facility until the arm healed so she could go home and continue living independently as she did. On May 15, my mom was rushed to the ER unresponsive for the 3rd time; however, this time would be her final return. Her cancer had woken up in 7 days from her last hospitalization and ravaged her body with an intense force shutting down her organs and rendering her completely unconscious. I, unlike my older sister, cared more about honoring my mom's wishes and not our own; I signed the DNR, met with Suzette Thompson who drove to the hospital to meet with us and discussed with us in great detail every little step, signed the paperwork and she was transferred on the 17th. It is SO hard to type this as I recall every second of every minute of every hour of every day until her last. From the very first foot in the door, we were treated like family; we were met with such loving compassion that words cannot explain the emotion that I felt with each person we came in contact with. My mother was made comfortable and treated with the utmost respect and love. We were allowed 24hrs a day; we were constantly checked on by the staff. They have a giant kitchen stocked with free coffee and tea, ice and fresh baked cookies on the daily plus a plentiful stocked vending machine. The facility is so beautiful and welcoming, not cold and sterile like a hospital. There are a couple of family rooms for families to set up shop to sleep in and clean, spacious and private showering rooms. Any questions we had were met with kind and comforting words. Being in the medical field, I can tell you other medical professionals do not appreciate tending to other medical professionals or families of because of the barrage of questions. Anytime I noticed a change in her breathing and skin color and or integrity, the nurses would kindly check, pull me aside and concur that the end was nearing. I must mention 2 very special nurses: Margarite and Mario. These two spectacular nurses treated my mom as if she were their own; their compassionate spirit and loving gestures were clearly sincere and not forced whatsoever. Margarite and I bonded quickly, so much so that the day my mother passed on the 22nd, she texted me when she came on her shift that night to offer her condolences. The chaplain, Chris Ware came to speak with us a few times during our very short lived time and prayed with us and offered us support as well as contacted a priest to perform what last rites could be done being that she was unconscious and unresponsive. Deonis Pointdexter came and met with us as well as Suzette was filling in for him while he was out; he made sure we were being well taken care of and checked to see if we needed anything and sat with us for a while. On May 22 as I made my way back with lunch for my sister, my mom passed away as I was turning onto the street. I am amazed at how the staff did not rush us, ignore us or act as if it were nothing. Many nurses came to offer their condolences, hug us, and told us to take all the time we needed. I informed them she was being cremated and going back home so they made the arrangements for the pick up. The handling of my mother's body was gentle and with such immense respect that I was overcome with emotion. Once her body was removed, we were once again told to take all the time we needed. As we made our way out of her room, I walked to the nurses station to let them know and to inquire about what would happen next with the death certificate and also to inform them a document would be arriving via fax that my sister needed completed by the physician for her leave. The nurses came to say goodbye and hugged me one last time. My sister's form was done and faxed on time, and the funeral home received my mom's signed death certificate in less than one week. I am ever so grateful to the ENTIRE staff at Harbor for everything they did, their compassion, sincerity and overall professionalism. It was evident that this was not just a job, this was their passion and their calling. read more

Have you no decency or respect for those who have lost loved ones? I know your CEO and I know he would not approve of this. He would be very disappointed. This place was nice inside but first impression is what I look for. There was no one to help or greet the patient upon entrance into the building. The staff didn't show any compassion for my father. It was like, "what are his goals and what are we doing for him". They were very defensive and no communication when entering his room. I couldn't leave him there so we move on to somewhere else where people have some kind of compassion for end of life. I feel they need a lot of training if you want to work in the hospice field. read more

Great place for loved ones. The staff bathed my father every day, gave medication & turner routinely. Rooms are private & available for loved ones to stay the night. Fresh cookies & 1 meal provided to family daily. The staff was so caring & compassionate. Informed us of normal signs & symptoms. It is a hard time to loose your loved ones and NEVER an easy process. But Dr Lindley was so amazing & the nurses! The Social Worker could be more helpful & supportive is the only complaint I could say, but relatively speaking was a great overall experience for our father!!!! Highly recommend for the final days of life. read more

RUN to another hospice! Horrible administration!!! Lovely facility but no communication from social workers or Director. They emailed me to tell me they were discharging my Dad after only a few days!!! No call! The only help I got then was a list of nursing homes via email. Then when they transferred Dad they made no attempt to discuss process and sent him in pain without supplies or any idea when or IF they were ever coming. You have to get nasty to get results then they still leave you hanging. read more

My younger sister passed away on Friday 7/26 at the Harbor hospice facility located on Kirby Dr. My sister was at this facility only a few days before she passed and went to be with the Lord, but our experience in those few days at this facility was very favorable, and I speak from recent personal experience having dealt with other hospice care for both my parents just two years ago. This Harbor facility is clean, spacious, peaceful, and has good accommodations for family members wishing to stay for long periods of time. The Nurses, LVNs, and CNAs that took care of my sister Sylvia and which I interacted with while there were very professional, caring and compassionate. Compared to other hospice care facilities here in the Houston area, which I have had experienced with in the past, I would recommend this Harbor hospice facility for your family members; the care my sister received here was a positive experience for our family. read more

Do not count on getting a Death Certificate filed in a timely manner. The Doctor in charge of filing Death Certificates takes her sweet time. My Mother passed away on January 1St after several phone calls and threats of filing a law suit against them we finally got a returned phone call 17 days later. Remember this, you CAN NOT have a funeral without a death certificate ! read more

Although having to take a loved one to a hospice is extremely difficult for anyone, we are glad we chose Harbor. The entire staff is very compassionate and humble. The place provided all of the support and comfort we could possibly ask for. They provided a very nice, peaceful, clean, home - like place for our grandmother to spend her last days at. Harbor Hospice has a wonderful and caring staff that took excellent care of our Mother and was extremely supportive of us. Our Mom was in extreme pain from complete nerve compression in her spine, which required her to be on an IV morphine pump to be comfortable. We considered Houston Hospice but they would only allow pain medication by mouth, which she was not capable of taking nor would it have sufficed to control her pain. While she was a patient at St. Luke's, they stipulated that she had to be on an IV to manage her pain. We were so grateful that Harbor Hospice could provide her that option. She was in hospice for 10 days before peacefully passing. During that time she was kept comfortable, clean and well cared for. A member of our family was with her most of that time, and the staff was equally caring of all of us, kept us informed of her vitals and any changes that were occurring. We never had a question that went unanswered. Dr. Sherry Lemley familiarized herself with my Mom's case; understood the need for the Morphine pump (which is an additional cost to the facility) and approved the use of it. We are so grateful that our Mom was pain free until she passed. The entire staff was kind, respectful and efficient. I would highly recommend this facility for end of life care. read more

Harbor Hospice the (Southeast) location is amazing place. The staff was knowledgeable,friendly and compassionate. They not only cared for the patient they cared for the family too. The staff explained everything they were doing and what to expect. They assured me my daddy would be comfortable and pain free. The facility was very beautiful,clean and very peaceful. The staff was helpful answering any of my questions and kept me updated. The times I went home they called me to let me know any changes in my daddy's condition. The chaplain even called me several days after my daddy passed to check on me. If I had to choose a hospice again I would choose Harbor Hospice. read more

We had a horrible experience with this facility. The person that gave us the tour, Chris seemed so nice, informative, and genuine. However, what he sold us on and what we received were two totally different things. After being there for 2 full days, from the referral of my mom's oncologist, neurosurgeon, and family doctor- the facility said my mom wasn't declining fast enough and that I needed to figure out what I wanted to do. The social worker then gave me a list of nursing homes and asked for me to circle at least 6 choices and get it back to her in a couple of days. From that point on, she wouldn't even make eye contact with me in the halls. Administration made a tough situation tougher with their total lack of empathy. I called around to other facilities and heard so many negative comments about Harbor, many even apologized that we were dealing with this and how they had heard this story many times. It's basically a holding tank for people that are needing to go to nursing homes or cannot stay at home due to their surroundings. My mom passed away 5 days after they said she wasn't "declining" fast enough, and we received a letter in the mail yesterday saying that we owed them money because our insurance was out of network! When I was assured that everything was fine with our insurance from day one! These people! DO NOT take your loved one there, read reviews from families and former employees- they speak volumes! The only reason I rated them one star is because zero stars was not an option! read more

My dad was taken to Harbor Hospice for palliative care. Chris did a great job of showing me the facility and he was honest and genuine. My dad was transferred to harbor hospice few days later. My dad only needed pain medication and his vitals checked for the most part in addition to cleaning and turning every once in a while. Given his terminal condition, the amount of care he needed was minimal. Overall I would say the nursing care at this facility is inadequate. Some of the nurses are very good and are Attentive. Kim was especially good, she was compassionate and Took good care of my dad. I was relieved when I saw her for the night shift on the second day my dad was there. I can't say the same for the rest. One day we saw one nurse sitting around cutting coupons for a long time instead of working. Anothe nurse and LVN didn't know how to turn my dad to prevent bedsores. The LVN and the other support position there is incompetent and were argumentative with us. This may not be the case with every single one of them but the ones we dealt with, this was the case. Some of the nurses does not even check the chart to make sure the medications are correct, which is scary for any patient or family member. My dad was given incorrect dose of morphine. After we made a complaint they finally checked the chart and gave the correct dose. After my dad's passing, Chris came and prayed with us which I thought was timely and wonderful. The only reason I'm giving this review 2 star is because of Chris and Kim, otherwise it would have been one star. As an organization Harbor Hospice need to work on hiring and training staff that are compassionate and provide good customer service. It is frustrating for patients and family's to deal with staff that are unwilling or incompetent to do their work. read more

My wife was recently a patient at Harbor until she passed away. The care & compassion for her & the rest of our family could not be surpassed. Doctor Ferrer and the nurses and staff were able to take the worst time in my life and make it something beautiful with the most respect and dignity for my wife. My dad was on outpatient hospice care with Harbor for about 3 weeks when he had a change. The home visiting RN recommended to my mom that my dad be admitted to General In-Patient (GIP) care and she agreed. The Hospice agency arranged EMS transportation from home to the inpatient unit. My mom and I followed and were about 5 minutes behind the ambulance. When we arrived to the GIP facility we checked in at the front desk and were given my dad's room number. We went to the room and he was already in the bed with a hospital gown on looking very crisp and clean. The staff were very friendly and readily available for anything we needed. They made sure we were kept informed of any changes in his status, orders and care. We thought daddy would perk up and we would be able to take him back home, but now, we realize the home visiting RN saw something that we did not. My dad was admitted on 12/22/16 and passed very quietly on 12/31/16 at Harbor Hospice GIP. The GIP experience allowed our family to have quality time with our loved one. We were able to be his family as opposed to his caregivers in those precious last days. And, that is something worth more than gold. I thank God for the wonderful souls who go into Hospice care because of their love and passion to serve. And, I thank all of the Harbor Hospice staff who cared for my dad (and the whole family, really) during his final days here on this earth. read more
