I had the unfortunate pleasure of working with Bayou City Hospice and EVERY single worker (CNA, Nurse, Adminstrative Representative etc.) we encountered exuded an impeccable level of genuine care, thoughtfulness, and empathy that made the level of sadness/mourning that my family experienced (daily) while participating in at home hospice, just a little bit more bearable. The training that each worker experienced as it pertains to bedside manner and just seeing a patient and a patient's loved ones was evident with every encounter. It is clear that they instill in their workers the importance of tenderness, thoughtfulness, and care in a very effective manner. I hope to never need to need hospice care again, but if I had to, I would definitely start with Bayou City Hospice.

Unfortunately,…read morethrough no fault of Cypresswood, her overall health took a fast downturn not long after she moved in. After a difficult hospitalization, mom was released to her apartment in the MC unit but now with a hospice service. The MC staff, whom I had already seen in previous times to be personable and attentive, were equally so after this big change in mom's condition. For 5-star aides Loretta, Joy, and Joan, it was as important to imbue a positive spirit into their work as to do a professional job with tasks of such as position changes, bathroom care, and bathing and dressing. Despite her weakened state, mom recognized and showed her appreciation of their care with a little joke or a "merci beaucoup." 5-star MC med techs Enos, Carlisa, and Y also greatly helped alleviate mom's suffering by adapting to her changing PRN medication needs. Many others behind the scenes also contributed. Thank you to everyone who extended themselves to meet mom's new and quite different needs as a resident in the MC unit who was also a person in hospice. Mom passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024.

I was at Park Manor 2/13/25 - 2/17/25…read more I was getting great care and everything was going great until Monday, 2/17/25 at 9pm when I suddenly started having breathing problems and chest pain that was at a 10. I immediately hit the call button. After 10 minutes nobody came so I called 911. The nurse and someone came after seeing EMS headed towards my room. They quickly came in to my room saying they were trying to help me and I didn't need EMS. EMS told them to get out of their way and they were taking me to the hospital My husband later got a phone call and voicemail from someone named Mary asking that he call her back. Most 99% of the staff is great. People like Elizabeth, Linda, Ivory, Laurie,nurses Robert, Lillisette, Sarah, Mrs T & Tran, PT Director, Nicole, Emily, Melanie, Yvonne & Rhoda in PT

We could no longer care for her at home and decided to find a memory care facility for her safety. Auberge seemed great and looks nice, but they didn't know how to handle her and ended up sending her to the psych ward later that month (October). They didn't explain why and we have yet to receive a call to this day. My MIL spent 3 weeks adjusting to new medication and was back to her loving, sweet self! When it came to her release from the psych ward, Auberge had to re-access her before coming back. They were given about 4-5 days notice from the social worker. Auberge was VERY hesitant and waited until the last day to schedule it. Most of this was communicated through text with Auberge (apparently they didn't have time for a phone call) and the social worker. At that point we had to find my MIL a new home just in case Auberge didn't approve her coming back in and frankly, we didn't want her going back to a place that doesn't communicate or show any care or excitement to have her back. The only positive feedback I can give is the nurse's in her "neighborhood" were nice and did communicate with us when we visited. Other staff didn't really say much to us, they did when we toured, but not after that. I think it's cruel how dismissive they were of my MIL because she was more difficult than others. They can't handle the tough side of Alzheimers. There are plenty of memory care facilities in this area, don't send your loved one to this one!

Our mother was in this facility for a little over 2 months and we could not leave soon enough. She…read moreneeded some extra care and the facility stated they could handle but as soon as mom got in the door and they had our money they suggested 'Hospice Care', this way they could have her there and do as little as possible, which is exactly what happened. A few of the girls were caring and knowledgeable (about 3), but others did not know and/or were not properly trained to handle a peg tube, and other, creating some accidents and unneeded stress among other issues! Outsiders even told us that there were better places and to get out as soon as possible. Management made promises and of course they want to get you in the door but buyer beware, once you are in you better be there just about every day to check in or who knows how your loved one will be handled or treated. They keep surveillance cameras for their benefit but won't allow you to have any - wonder why? Oh, they are nice enough and rapidly made changes and kept our monies instead of acting in a more professional manner after saying might give back if another party moved in. Well the other party was in within the day and no monies were refunded. All in all they are one big smiley face that's not so kind with not so well trained staff for the ones really needing the care. There are many other wonderful places that truly care. We know and have found one now with a night and day difference. So if you are considering this place do not be misled by the presentation - Beware!

But the staff is what truly sets VGF apart from the rest. The professional and knowledgeable office staff, the fun and creative activities directors, the friendly and accommodating dining team, the nurturing caregivers, the helpful and responsive maintenance teams, the kind and thoughtful onsite pastor, the proactive and caring nurse navigator, the beauty shop gals, the helpful drivers and everyone in between, the VGF staff truly cares about each resident and makes everyone feel right at home!

However, that impression quickly changed once we arrived home with my mother. Communication from the nurses, aides, and company as a whole was inconsistent. We were told oxygen would be provided shortly, yet it did not arrive until two days later, and only after we had to follow up. A regular schedule for visits was never established, and although they sent help when we called, we had to make the call each time. I found myself constantly reaching out with questions. While the RN assigned to us was wonderful, she was only available one day each week. During the less than two-week span we worked with this hospice, the LVN who visited appeared unprepared and uninformed. I had to show her how to drain my mother's ventilating drainage bag, along with other essential tasks. My mother was supposed to receive anti-anxiety medication on her first day in hospice care, but despite repeated requests and ultimately the threat of changing providers, the medication wasn't delivered until five days later. When my mother began showing signs of the active phase of dying, I had to call to ask what the plan was for support. The responses I received were vague and unhelpful. I asked if someone could assess her or if we were simply supposed to call once she passed, as well as how arrangements with the funeral home should be handled. Brittany, a representative, responded, "Oh, no one got the funeral information from you? That should have happened on day one." The entire experience felt unstructured and chaotic. The only positive aspect of this experience was the RN who came when my mother was within eight hours of passing. He was compassionate and attentive through the night, staying with us until she passed. However, after he left, we waited alone for the funeral home to arrive. Now, ten days after her passing, the hospice company has yet to reach out with any words of condolence--no email, phone call, or text. As an RN with over 30 years in healthcare, I would never treat a family going through hospice in this way. I strongly encourage families to conduct thorough research before choosing a hospice provider to ensure their loved ones receive the compassionate and structured care they deserve.

Severely understaffed nursing to patient ratio. The place is dirty and a/c doesn't work. A few of…read morethe nurses were great and majority of CNAs were wonderful however again severely understaffed. The therapy team were kind except the head guy. He was flippant and ignored the fact my loved one needed speech therapy for swallowing even though we chose this location for this specific need. No one ever did speech therapy the 23 days my loved one was there which made his swallow issues worsen and lose weight due to lack of eating. The head of nursing was rude and ignored concerns. My loved one failed swallow testing and still she was covering for the nurse one day and brought my loved one pills to swallow and one got stuck and after that he refused to eat or drink even though we had started to make progress. My loved one ended up with a pretty severe uti due to lack of changing him and I had to push for testing to prove this was going on. They were dehydrating him significantly with 3 different types of stool softeners. We had to request Iv hydration due to how dehydrated he was. My loved one ended up with bruises on his toes from pushing against the bed as they are horrible cheap beds that aren't long enough for taller residents. If you are considering this facility go on the weekends. The place reeks of urine and fecal matter because the one wonderful cleaner they have doesn't work weekends. Also, request a camera in the room so you can verify care for your loved one no matter what facility you choose. My loved one was never taken out of his room to socialize or take to the lunch room. He was left in his room alone. Getting older is hard. Our loved ones deserve respect, nurturing and healing. Do better.
