    Quesabirria tacos
    Donald C.

Came here recently and had an incredible meal. The albondigas were spot on - tender meatballs in a rich, warming broth that hit all the right notes. The standout was definitely the quesabirria tacos: gooey melted cheese, succulent beef birria, and that amazing consommé on the side for dipping every bite. I also ordered the three beef birria tacos plate with rice and beans - super flavorful and filling. The shrimp and steak fajitas were sizzling and fresh, with perfectly cooked shrimp, juicy steak, onions, and peppers. Everything tasted homemade and authentic. Staff was super friendly, service was quick, and the atmosphere is cozy and family-friendly. Great prices too! If you're craving birria or fajitas, this is the place. Can't wait to return!

I wanted something other than Asian food. I was really excited because I haven't had Mexican food in a while. Parking: There's a small plaza, so finding a spot can be a hit or miss. Ambiance/Environment: I looove the decor here. The colors, pictures, and warm ambiance felt like i was transported to Mexico. They have a medium sized space with a decent amount of indoor seating. Service: Shout out to Jenny! She was the only server, and she was courteous, attentive, and efficient. She constantly checked on me to ensure I was still doing good. Throughput was also quick after ordering. Food & drinks: 1. Huevos con machaca - Dry aged shredded beef cooked in peppers, onions, tomatoes, and scrambled with two eggs. They serve breakfast all day! What?! This is similar to an omelette but scrambled and served with beans and rice. I really enjoyed this dish! 2. Pozole - Traditional Mexican red soup with chunks of pork & hominy. Wow .. this is the most authentic pozole I've had in a while. It is served with the usual lettuce, radish, and limes. There was a generous amount of pork and hominy. Sooo flavorful! 3. Quesabirria tacos - I looove quesabirria! Make sure to drench the taco in the consome to give it more flavor. These are their most popular tacos, and I could definitely tell why. 4. Mixed fajitas - Their fajitas are back! This contained a mixture of chicken, steak, & shrimp. This came out on a smoking hot plate. I decided to go with corn tortillas. This was also served with the usual sides of fresh avocado, beans, rice, and salsa. The proteins were cooked and seasoned well. 5. Chile relleno & hard shell taco combination - A chile filled w/ cheese, dipped in a light egg batter, fried, & covered with salsa ranchera & cheese. I ordered this combo with a beef hard shell taco. The chile relleno was sooo delicious! The chile is a green pepper stuffed with cheese and fried. I love how generous they are with the salsa ranchera. This was also served with rice and beans. 6. Campechana - seafood cocktail shrimp, octopus, and abalone. This was recommended to me. This dish became popular through socials. Presentation was on point. This is more on the sweeter side and served with crackers. 7. Mango margarita - I love me some margaritas! The mango flavor definitely came through. 8. Michelada - I ordered this with Corona beer. The spices were on point. Pricing: I absolutely enjoyed everything! Each dish was filled with authentic Mexican flavors!

Harbor Mexican is cozy restaurant in a busy strip mall on Harbor with an authentic menu and nice service. We've been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the food. The free chips and salsa are also delicious and we always get seconds. My favorite is the cocido, with ample amount of tender chunks of beef and vegetables. The birria tacos are also delicious.

    LA tostada with chicken breast

Delicious Mexican food. I was in the area and I stopped in for lunch. I love Mexican food, but I wanted something light. I tried the LA tostada with chicken. Delicious! Very juicy seasoned shredded chicken breast ( lots of chicken they did not skimp) with lettuce (not just iceberg, like a garden mix) flavorful beans, other vegetables, topped with a big dollop of guacamole and sour cream. All served inside a tortilla bowl. They also brought me chips and salsa. Oh, and that salsa! Just the right amount of heat. The man at the next table liked it so much he asked to buy some and bring it home for his wife. Located in a strip mall. There is a small outdoor patio and indoor seating. The decor inside is bright and colorful, a contemporary Mexican feel. I'm definitely going back to try other menu items.

If you love Mexican food, you need to check out Harbor Mexican Café--a true hidden gem that only locals seem to know about! From the moment I sat down, I knew I was in for a treat. They started us off with fresh salsa and warm chips, and let's just say... I definitely kept asking for more. Now onto the food--LOOK AT THESE PORTIONS! They are super generous and don't skimp on anything. Shrimp Fajitas ($17.99) - Served on a sizzling platter with tortillas, plus a side of rice and beans. The shrimp were juicy, well-seasoned, and had that perfect sizzle! Quesabirria Tacos ($14.99) - Hands down, the star of the show! The meat was incredibly tender, packed with flavor, and paired perfectly with the rich consomé for dipping. Shrimp Campechana ($18.99) - A refreshing yet hearty seafood cocktail with shrimp, avocado, and a tangy, flavorful broth. Menudo Soup ($16.99) - If you love beef menudo like I do, this is a must-order! The broth was rich, comforting, and tasted just like a homemade bowl. Horchata - Sweet, creamy, and refreshing--exactly how horchata should be. If you're looking for an authentic, homey Mexican spot with amazing food and portions that won't disappoint, Harbor Mexican Café is the place to be!

But if you're ready to level up your foodie game, don't miss the *molcajete* --a sizzling hot thing of tender meats and bold flavors that's perfect for sharing (or not), served with rice and beans. Service is warm and friendly. The restaurant has a family feel. Add @harbormexicancafelahabra on IG and check for seasonal specials. Our first time here. Thanks to YELP for helping me find this place!! Everything was great. The food was amazing! I think they use clay pots to cook their food. I can taste it in the beans, delicious!!. My combo plate was delicious. The relleno had a spicy flavor, was very tasty. My husband didn't talk much because he was too busy devouring his food!! Reyna provided us with excellent service. She was very friendly and had a beautiful smile. You should come check it out for yourself. I give FIVE stars!!

I'm a fan! We've ordered takeout from here and dined in several times now and it's become a neighborhood fave of ours. Love the enchiladas with rice and beans and if you dine in, you get complimentary chips and salsa! Service is always top notch and takeout orders are always completed really quickly. Parking can get crowded at peak times, but we've never had to wait for a table at the restaurant itself.

Food: 5* Service: 5* Ambiance: 5* Great what appears to be a family run business. The food was delicious and the service fantastic. I ordered the cafe de olla (black coffee with piloncillo (Mexican brown sugar), and canela (cinnamon)). It was just okay, no real cinnamon taste and just okay. I ordered the campechana, which was packed to the rim with shrimp, abalone, pulp (octopus), avocado, cucumber, and pico de gallo. My partner had the chilaquiles with steak and eggs. We asked for the green sauce but spicy. It had a nice flavor and a little spice, but it was great. The steak was delicious! So tender. He asked if instead of tortillas he could get toast. The young lady said sure, but did not disclose they would charge $2 for a piece of toast. Overall, great place with great food and service. We will return.

Awesomeness, 5+ stars for the delicious food. Basically a ceviche tostada. Loved it - Fish, shrimp & octopus. Could not eat it all so leftovers for tonight. Also the salsas red & green were fresh made and wonderful. Julie's services was excellent. Even offered a togo cup for ice tea.

Special Cali carne asada wet burrito

My boyfriend and I found this gem after we had a hike on a trail near by. We've been to this plaza before to go to Egg Bred, but we've also been wanting to try the other restaurants here so we chose this place for lunch. It is family run and our server was super nice and service was good. For a small place the decor is actually pretty nice and really gets you in the mood for some tasty Mexican food. We had chips and salsa and also got some Mexican Cokes to drink. I really wanted to try their chile rellanos, but unfortunately they were all out today so I settled for a couple crispy shredded beef tacos. My boyfriend got a special cali wet burrito with carne asada. It had both red and green sauce with it and a chipotle cream sauce on top. Our food came out hot and it looked amazing, especially my boyfriend's burrito. It was so huge he could only eat half of it. I tried some of it as well and it was really bomb. The sauce was super flavorful and the carne asada was meaty and delicious. My tacos were really good as well. They were crunchy and not too greasy. I liked the generous amount of cheese on top too. The beans and Spanish rice were also top tier. We really loved this place and will definitely come again. Hopefully next time I can try their chile rellanos.

We were looking on tic toc came across the quaint little place Harbor Mexican cafe. The service was awesome and friendly and the food was very ,very good . I recommend the nice restaurant. I will be coming back again . Thank you

    Chile Verde Plate Combination

The Chile Verde Plate Combination w/ Steak was very good. Maybe a little too much sauce, but for my first time ever trying it, I enjoyed it. Service was chill, I got my food maybe 10-15mins after ordering. In the meantime they gave me chips and salsa.

Ask the Community - Harbor Mexican Cafe

Is this place closed now? Been trying to call for several days and just passed by the restaurant and the doors were closed?

This place is definitely open. I live near by and we go every 2 weeks or so. When ever I drive by it's open as well.

    Is it closed now?

Yes it's closed. The entire strip mall is getting a new facade and is for sale. We spoke to them a few times before they closed and gave them a couple vacant restaurant locations they could relocate to because they did want to reopen somewhere else.… Read more

    Are they closed for good?

According to the city of La Habra Planning Commission notes from August 2019, they will reopen with the remodel of the center. Looks like that is happening very soon.

The space was so aesthetically pleasing and incredibly vibey -- very Instagram-worthy without feeling overdone. The décor had gorgeous details everywhere, with greenery and hanging elements from the ceiling, warm lighting, and a layout that felt open and roomy while still cozy. The food was delicious, the music was great, and the overall atmosphere made it such a nice spot to relax, hang out, and take it all in. It was one of those places where everything just worked -- the lighting, the vibe, the energy. We recently drove by and saw that it has closed permanently, which honestly made me really sad. Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

The idea was to enjoy my coffee while getting organized--paying bills, planning calendar events, and having the opportunity to focus without any distractions from my usual surroundings. In search of the perfect spot, I turned to Yelp, a reliable resource for uncovering hidden gems nearby. Upon stepping into the coffee shop, I was immediately greeted with warm hospitality, setting the tone for a delightful experience. The ambiance of the place was truly captivating--it was bright and welcoming, infused with an aesthetic charm that instantly put me at ease. I couldn't help but be intrigued by the design elements throughout the shop, which added an inviting touch to its overall atmosphere. Before I settled in, I asked the staff if I could snap a few photos to capture the essence of this delightful space. They graciously welcomed my request, and I was shown to my table, which, quite uniquely, was designated by a number--a small detail that I found charming. As I browsed the menu, I encountered a small conundrum: I wasn't entirely sure what to order. I wanted to break the mold and try something out of the ordinary. My curiosity was piqued by their exclusive offering of Café de la Olla--a traditional hot drink that piqued my interest right away. I ultimately settled on a hearty plate that included rice, beans, and enticing potato tostones, accompanied by two beautifully cooked sunny-side-up eggs. As I waited for my order, I noticed the café was filled with the sweet sounds of old-school music from the '60s and '70s, which only enhanced the cozy ambiance while I sipped my drink. Now, let's talk about the food! I must say, I rated the café itself a solid 4 out of 5 for its overall charm, while the rice earned a respectable 4 out of 5. The beans were rich in flavor and received a fair 3.9 out of 5. The potato tostones, delicately bathed in a savory red sauce, stood out with an impressive score of 4.3 out of 5--these are a must-try if you visit! And as for the sunny-side-up eggs, they were good, but hey, eggs are eggs, right? Overall, the entire experience was quite enjoyable, from the delightful food to the warm atmosphere. A special shout-out goes to Ana, whose exceptional customer service made my visit even more memorable. The combination of fantastic service, inviting aesthetics, and satisfying food truly made for a perfect morning retreat. I can't recommend this spot enough for anyone looking for a relaxing place to unwind and focus on what matters.
