I had organized a 3 day trip to go kayaking out of Scorpion…read more Was bringing my personal kayak and then renting one until I received a call the night before we took off telling me the conditions weren't any good with 7 ft swell and 25mph gusts forecasted. I was told the only window would be for arrival day which I had already booked a tour so I was advised to not bring my personal kayak. Huge mistake! Second day and there was a little wind but not too bad, bit of a swell but plenty of kayaking to be had without caves. All the boats and tours went out all day. I had called the Kayak Center to see if they could send two singles out for next morning for us as there was still room on boat. I was told there was no way they would send out any kayaks due to the conditions and swell and out of safety. The guy kept going on and on about what happens when you go around a bend. It was ridiculous as I kept telling him I know exactly what happens. No matter how many times I told him that I am a very experienced paddler, certified rescue diver, live in Laguna, and am on ocean about 3 days/week and understand ocean conditions and forecasts, the guy wouldn't hear it. I have my own RIB with a 50hp motor I take out all the time. I'm not a newbie. What really got me was they ended up sending out several kayaks for other people in the morning boat yet nothing for us. I asked him why was he not letting us have any and he then started back peddling saying those people signed waivers about not taking kayak for that day. The kayaks they delivered weren't going to be used until next day. What a lie that was. You couldn't have asked for a calmer more gorgeous day to be on water which again, every boat was including the kayaks they had taken over on ferry. I've kayaked scorpion several times when I used to frequent islands on private boat. This time was much different and a lot of coordination going into it. After much work, I had 3 days planned out with my daughter, 17, and also an experienced paddler, surfer, and certified advanced diver. Our trip was ruined because of these guys. I can guarantee if I had been a male, there wouldn't have been any problems. Instead we got to sit on the beach and watch all the kayakers enjoy a gorgeous glassy day on the water with no way to get out ourselves. Profilers.

I love the Ventura Harbor and it's my most frequented harbor in Ventura county. This one feels like…read morehome and has that nostalgic feeling since I've moved here as this was always the place I'd escape to for some good eats and seaside vibes. There is so much to love about the Ventura harbor. They host great events here and there is always something going on. I love when they hire live music on the weekends so that when you're walking around you can enjoy the tunes. A great selection of restaurants here and some nice variety. I love that the harbor has Mexican cuisine, seafood, brunch spots and Greek food. Also some newer spots with arcades and beer have popped up which is great for pulling in a larger crowd/audience. This harbor has always seemed relatively safe to me. I don't see much of security or law enforcement presence but I appreciate that as it just is on the safer side. Like anywhere be aware of your surroundings but I'm happy it's always a safe and family oriented spot. Plenty of parking, easy to get to from the freeway. It's a perfect tourist destination but also locals love it here as well. Cute shops, especially their clothing and pottery store. There is a lot to see at the Ventura harbor but it's also quaint and cutesy. Not too big and you can see everything in about an hour or two depending on your pace (and spending) lol. Happy that the Ventura harbor continues to thrive, really a great spot.

There are a good selection of shops to browse or shop at. Are you hungry? They've got that covered at Ventura Harbor as well. We purchased some delicious ice cream at Coastal Cone. Need some exercise? All of us enjoyed walking around the harbor. Wifey and her friend got some extra exercise by pedaling the duck boat that we rented. I thoroughly enjoyed relaxing at the back of the pedal boat enjoying the sights! Hahaha!! Seriously, though, the Ventura Harbor is a terrific place to spend a couple hours or an entire day at. This review is specifically for the Coroloma Sports fishing crew…read more I went on a local 3/4 day on 09/13/2026 along with my father and my cousin. For the most part, the experience was quite nice, the crew was very friendly and accommodating and we had a great day of fishing overall. Heres the thing, we only came home with 19 rockfish. Between the 3 of us, we had caught way over the limit of rockfish as it was a wide open bite. We had given away a lot of fish even before we had finished fishing for the day. As you can see in the photos below, we still had a lot of excess, in which we picked out the 10 fish that we want for each person and give the rest away to the deckhands for them to distribute to the people that didn't catch a limit. As you can see in the photos, there are a couple of flag rockfish, a few speckled(bolina) rockfish, some chilipeppers and a couple of other misc rockfish that we had caught, only to find that when we went home with our fish, not only were our other variety of rockfish missing, we were short 11 rockfish and were left with mostly Salmon Groupers. We at least had some of our bigger catches. This situation had turned our otherwise great experience to 50/50. I will give the Coroloma another chance and will personally speak with the deckhands and captain in the future in hopes that this will be a one time mistake.

This was an absolute joke and an expensive one at that…read more.. I DO NOT recommend bringing your children and renting a boat here. Extremely unsafe, there's no bench seating it's old folding chairs on top of a large piece of plywood on floaties... a bunch of the railing was broken to the point if you leaned on it you would fall off .. my husband left with a huge gash taken out of his leg from a broken part of the railing they stuffed tissue paper in but didn't fix. There is no table .. just a few fold out chairs and the captains chair was busted you are sitting on top of the pole that's popping out of the seat.. The lake was beautiful and we did catch a few nice fish but unfortunately we do not plan to ever rent a boat here again. Unless a miracle happened and they fixed their boats... You can go to pyramid lake a rent a nice pontoon with couch seats and table and actual flooring for the boat for the same price.... It's so unfortunate because this lake is very nice and we were scoping it out so we could camp out and rent a boat one time but unfortunately will be finding a different location.

Well, my circumstances dictated a larger first boat. Insurance was difficult to obtain, and when I did, they asked for 30 hours of sailing and a sign off from a licensed captain. Captain Joe of Far West marine agreed to be my mentor, and I could not be happier; an expert sailor, an intuitive teacher, and an interesting person to spend time with. We have finished our insurance requirement and I feel like I've made a good friend. Im sure we will sail again in the future.

I had a few "expert" friends…read morevolunteer to teach me but the size of the boat was bigger than anything they had experienced so they kept crashing into stuff and causing all kinds of problems. I quickly realized I'd need professional training or else the boat would never be enjoyed and might as well be sold. Luckily, I was able to find Captain Joe online. Joe is everything you would want in a marine mentor or coach. He's extremely knowledgeable but also patient and knows what to say and when to say it so you learn while also feeling safe . After a few hours under his tutelage we went from not even being sure how to really start the boat to being able to pull it in and out of the slip ourselves, get it to the ocean , get it on plane, drop anchor. He also went around and did a basic safety check of everything on the boat and gave some recommendations for a simple maintenance plan . Joe is also full of good stories so it's fun just to hang out with him. I'd definitely recommend far west marine for anyone interested in getting into nautical piloting and seamanship .
