Mediocre experience at best. This was a crowded location as the storefront was small and obviously a tourist attraction, so be ready to feel like your space is invaded everywhere you walk. We were excited to try the $4 wine tasting (got to choose 6 wines from an extensive wine list). However, the pours were so small it was hard to get a true impression of the taste and our "tour guide" (if you can even call him that) was less than satisfactory. He sounded like a monotone robot, bored out of his mind, talking us through our wine selections. Almost felt as if we were inconveniencing him for just doing a standard tasting - a truly uncomfortable experience. The pro is that there were some really great wines we ended up selecting. Give Me One Good Riesling was by far our group's favorite, so we ended up buying a few bottles. The dessert wines were also a hit, and surprisingly super high in alcohol content ringing in at a whopping 14%. All in all, an okay experience as we left confidently with some bottles of Door County wine. But as far as wine tasting and experience, I won't be back. I'll be checking out other locations in the area that hopefully put more emphasis on customer service. read more

This was our second to last stop on the wine trolley today. My friends and I were discussing our favorite stops, and agreed that in terms of wine, Harbor Ridge was by far the best. The dry reds were much less acidic than some of the ones we had elsewhere. I absolutely loved the Pinot Grigio as well. The only one I wasn't nuts about was the sparkling rose', but that's just a preference thing. I just didn't find it to be very "sparkly." Lorre and Erin were great at describing the wines and making sure everyone got to try what they wanted. When I come back to Door County, I will definitely go back to Harbor Ridge, it's a wonderful spot. read more

YUM! You get to sample 5 wines here and then order wine by the glass if you like any of them. They seem to have a greater percentage of their own wine on the menu than some other wineries in the area. I tried my samples and settled on a wine called "Give Me One Good Riesling"...and it was so good that I had two glasses. We got to hang out in their upstairs wine drinking area while gnawing on the blocks of cheese we purchased from the cheese shop that is connected. Dat. Cheese. We got a Foenugreek (spelling?) Gouda, which tasted like maple syrup. We also bought a balsamic-infused asiago, which was my personal fave. Harbor Ridge Winery rocks! read more

I have only recently been lucky enough to start visiting Door County again after living outside of the USA for many years. It is a gorgeous location to visit with many wineries, but Harbor Ridge stands out amongst the others. They truly offer a wide selection of wine including those fruit wines that people love so much, but also a very nice Cab Sav and Sav Blanc for those more refined palettes. The staff are always upbeat and the environment is light and fun, not pushy in any way as some of the wineries literally jump you as you enter the door. Not to mention that they have an array of gifts, homemade beauty products and wine trinkets as well as they hilarious signs that adorn the walls. Its a truly enjoyable experience all around and they have the best cheese shop just a few steps from their back door. Over 50 types of cheeses and they are superior to the typical cheese curd indeed! So, my recommend is get yourself there and don't wait for the warmth as they are open all year round, enjoy up to 5 wines as part of their complimentary wine tasting, buy your fav glass and try some cheese, just pass the time with some great people and enjoy some slower time through the winter months as you are guaranteed to get more one to one attention. They also have a brand new cherry wine with a little effervesence which is gorgeous chilled or warm with some mulled spices during these hiberationation months! A great little find and I will for sure be stopping there again soon! read more

After years of only ever stopping at one winery, my husband and I decided to try another. Harbor Ridge came recommended to us by friends who also frequent DC. My disclaimer to this review is that since this was our second winery stop, and I am 6 months pregnant, I did not actually try any of the wines. My husband did, and I find his taste to be just as good if not better then mine. Compared to some of the wineries in DC Harbor Ridge is a smaller winery. They offer more "flashy" wines both in taste and name of the wine Their wines sport names like "Knockin' Heads Red" and "Call me a Cab". Chad stated that their wine was as flashy in taste as in name. Take that for whatever it's worth. We did purchase a bottle of their Oktoberfest - we were making light purchases as we had just purchased a case at a previous winery. Since I couldn't join Chad in the tasting, I ventured to the adjacent building and sampled a few cheeses. There were three to sample, all were good. And, I found out that cheese is best served at room temp - to warm, and...that it does not need refrigeration for up to 24 hours. Who knew! That in and of itself was worth the trip. The server at the tasting counter was knowledgeable and hilarious. She poured VERY generous tastings. She was probably the high point of the winery. it is worth the trip to Harbor Ridge just to experience her. read more

I really enjoyed my visit here. The wines were very good and tasting was free! The staff was very knowledgable about the wines they were serving. There is a nice lounge upstairs where you can buy a glass of wine and relax. The store can get quite packed during busy season though. There's not a lot of room to maneuver around. I wonder how many bottles get knocked over and break during the summer time. This is definitely a nice place to stop if you are doing a Door County wine tour. read more

This place was great! We almost skipped it because of the bad reviews and I'm so glad we didn't! We were able to sample about 8 different wines which is way more than the other wineries we visited. The staff was super friendly and helped us navigate the wine list. The wines aren't as traditional as some other wineries in the area, but we bought almost every wine we tried! They'll treat you like family here! A group of 15 of us walked here from our cabin where we were staying for the weekend. They accommodated our group with a special tasting upstairs and showed us the barrels where they store the wine! Also next door there is a great little cheese shop (and they brought over samples to go with our tasting). Nice selection of wines here, especially if you are looking to try sweeter wines. The woman working the tasting bar was very helpful in figuring out what we might like to try. A lot of the wines that I tried were far too sweet for my liking, but I found a few that I enjoyed for the summer months. The cheese shop next door is great if you love different types of cheeses. The samples are generous and enough to give you an idea of what you like. I bought 3 cheeses here, and they were a little overpriced, but tasted great. One drawback is the amount of junk sold here. You can forget that they are primarily selling wine since you have to wade through all of the kitsch and crap to get to the wine bar. A winery that sells soaps is sort of strange. read more

This is definitely my favorite winery in door county. I adore everything about them from the names of their wines (call me a cab, crimes against vines) to the cheese shop that is located nearby. My only gripe would be that I wish I could get the wines in Milwaukee! If you love red wine I would definitely try both call me a cab and crimes against vines. If you like more fruity, sweet wines they have Carmen's last dance which is a favorite for many of my friends. read more

One of our favorite Door County wineries! It was the third Winery we visited on our own wine tour that day. (Don't worry, we had a DD ) it was a stark contrast from the snotty feeling at Stones Throw which we had just left. The tasting was free and the service was amazing we had someone in our group who had a boot on her foot and the server went upstairs to get her a chair during the tasting. All of the wines were absolutely fabulous. They have a few that are very different tasting but I loved every single one that I tried. They have a seating area upstairs as well as outside if you would like to purchase a single glass of wine or a bottle to drink there. Plus! There is a cheese shop right next-door. We cracked open a bottle and enjoyed some cheese after our tasting. Perfect way to end the evening in Door County! read more

I appreciate a quality glass when tasting; for the premium tasting they offer a excellent glass and decent larger pour size. The service was excellent even though they were busy. Though some wines are produced by Von Stiehl a number are vinted there on premise. The owners and staff are great and their tastings are wonderful, too. The cheese store next door is a great compliment to the wines and sundries. The atmosphere is also quite laid back and relaxing. Our present favorite is "Call Me a Cab." It is a very easy-drinking Cab Franc and goes well with just about any meal. read more

I've been to this winery several times, and unfortunately, this most recent experience was not all that great. It was a Saturday in July, so it was busy (to be expected). We were doing the wine trail, so most of the other wineries we visited were just as busy, if not more. At this one, though, we felt almost invisible. We found a spot at the tasting bar and it took a while for them to come over - again, not that big of a deal, we know it was busy. However, as we did our tasting, the host hardly looked at us, and didn't explain any of the wines. At one point, one of her friends (we're guessing) came in and for about 5 minutes she talked over us. Like literally, over our heads to the person behind us as we were trying the wine. When our samples were done, she didn't say a word, just walked away and never came back over to let us know where the wine was that we wanted. We finally just searched the store on our own, found our bottle, and brought it to the register. The guy at the register didn't say hello or look at us either, just kept talking to another person in the store, holding conversation as we checked out. I get it - the store was busy, there were "regulars" or "friends" in the store for these people... but at least acknowledge all of your customers, or hold conversations apart from them. The wine was pretty good. Customer service was lacking. read more

First time visit to Harbor Ridge today. We were immediately greeted at the door with a friendly smile, a wine list and an invitation to have a taste. Staff were engaging, but not pushy. While in Door County this last weekend, we stopped at several of the wineries and vineyards. Like the others, Harbor Ridge offers a free tasting of 4-5 of the wines they sell. It is important to know, they mostly sell wines that are NOT their own. On their website, they refer to von Stiehl Winery as their "sister" winery, but I think that might be where their wines (Knockin' Heads Red and Mademoiselle White) are made. Most of the other wines at this location are from von Stiehl. It's a good location, but is a little confusing about what is theirs. They do seem to have some new grapevines planted, so maybe they'll make wine from those in a few years. There is also a cheese shop at the winery and we picked up some tasty local cheese. read more

This winery is not likely to get high marks for reasons other than who is making, or where their wine is made. The tasting room is shared space with a shop that sells scented soaps. This is about as wrong as wrong gets for a tasting room. It is impossible to smell the bouquet of the wine with the olfactory overload of the soaps. read more

We visit Harbor Ridge every time we go to Door County. We've been to wineries ALL over (California, New York, the Midwest), and THIS winery was above par when compared to other wineries in this area. The staff was very knowledgeable, upbeat and helpful. Most of the wineries in the area offer very sweet wines, and it's refreshing to see a winery that has a selection of dry wines. If you're looking for fruit juice, then go elsewhere. Also check out the cheeses, they're more than willing to let you try them, they're local, and you can't go wrong when pairing them with some of the varieties of wine that they have. read more

While it is nice that they have cheese sampling for free, we were pressured into buying their best selling cheese at 10 dollars a block. At first we thought it was worth it until we found it for 3-5 dollars every where else in Door County and pretty much everywhere else in Wisconsin. I absolutely loved their wines, but you do have to remember that a lot of their wines are actually Von Steihl which is located in Algoma, WI (like the Oktoberfest someone mentioned previously). They do have some great wines of their own like Mademoselle, Give Me One Good Reisling, and Knockin' Heads Red. Just ask the staff which ones are theirs and they're happy to assist. Great atmostphere with friendly people - just don't buy the cheese. read more

My wife and I visit Door County, Wisconsin at least once or twice a year and this Spring was our best trip ever! Mainly because of Harbor Ridge Winery and Denny the owner. Last weekend was the wine trail weekend and we had made plans Saturday to visit three different wineries to enjoy their events. Happy to say we never made it to the other two after starting with Harbor Ridge and enjoying the music and karaoke on the patio. The wines here are some of the best in Door County and simply, "way to easy to drink." Carmen's Last Dance and Cherry Crush are two sweet wine that we enjoyed. Denni's Merlot was some of the best anywhere that we tried. The staff was really welcoming and even took the time to kid around and have fun even though the place was jumping. This winery made our trip this year and I hope everyone at least gives them a try next time in Door County! read more

Good wine, poor service. Server at checkout failed to clear previous customer's transaction, thus our charge included the previous customer 's charges. I respectfully reported this discrepancy at checkout. Server insisted I needed to sign charge transaction prior to his ability to void this transaction. Four days later my charge account continues to include both our correct transaction for wines purchased and the erroneous $96.60 charge despite a call back reporting this bill on our statement. This seems like a very poor business practice. Plenty of other wineries in Door County, a return to Harbor Ridge will likely be avoided. We continue to await our refund. read more

Great, deep and wide selection of wines. Wine tasting is great fun here - staff is friendly, down to earth, and obviously committed to what they are doing. Several really great wines too. This place gets some bad reviews but we really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Everyone is so friendly and we were able to taste 6 different wines. We felt very relaxed and not at all judged for being young (sometimes we do get that sense when doing tastings). The cheese place next door has delicious delectable cheeses to try. Our favorite is the onion Gouda. It is amazing. The only complaint I have is the day we went, they had a karaoke guy outside. Normally not a problem, but his music was so loud, we could not enjoy our glass on the patio as we had hoped. Will definitely return. read more

Second wine tasting stop of the day, and very much enjoyed it. Didn't have to pay for the tasting itself, which I find welcoming. So many places make you pay $5-10/12 for the privilege of trying their wines so you can figure out what you like and what you want to buy. Not this place! The woman serving us was very friendly and helpful, and explained the origin of the wines we were tasting and the types of grapes they came from. The wines themselves were very good, both the reds and the whites that we tried. And, they are reasonably priced. We ended up buying 6 bottles, some for ourselves and some for gifts. I find it simply amazing that a Winery of this quality who normally gets a rating of 4.5+ to 5 stars due to good wine, fabulous customer service and a wonderful ambiance is suddenly "sub par, not impressive because your mask is below your nose...", "charges too much for flights and we are Door County frequents that won't be back". People, these employees risk their health and live right now so you can make every attempt to enjoy yourselves despite the pandemic. You should be proud and happy that they are concerned enough for your health to wear a mask and follow guidelines, only asking that you offer the same courtesy to them. Things are very stressful here, with a barrage of people and the most serious shortage of emplyees due to COVID19. Please do your part and roll with the punches, instead of climbing on your social media pedestals and trashing some of the finest Door County can offer under these circumstances! read more
