Grouper with broccoletti and coconut rice was excellent!
    Edward K.

Have to agree that this place must have improved after the new ownership took over. We chose Harborside for our last dinner in Captiva. Our waiter Danny was great, very friendly and good with the recommendations. He said the grouper was excellent and it was! We also enjoyed the scallops wrapped in bacon and the beet and burrata salad. My wife liked her salmon and the kids liked the Cuban bread, sliders, and chicken fingers. Nice spot, good staff, good food!

Most improved restaurant on Captiva! Ignore any review before 2022. South Seas is under new ownership and Harborside has been transformed. It is a gem. The food, cocktails and wine list are all great. Most importantly the service is terrific. They are now open for breakfast too.

I have no idea where the bad reviews are coming from. We just recently stayed at South Seas and went to Harborside Bar and Grill for dinner. We had 6 people in our party, we made dinner reservations at 5:30 so we would have enough time to see the sunset after dinner. The restaurant is beautiful! Located right on the harbor (we saw manatees in the water on our walk in). The decor is just stunning. We were warmly greeted upon arrival. We got a drink at the bar and went right to our table. It was not busy at all and felt like we have the whole place to ourselves. Our server was fantastic! She had a wonderful personality and really made the experience that much better. We got the crispy cauliflower and green beans for an appetizer, SO GOOD! It came with a spicy sauce and cashews. The size was large and perfect for sharing. Everyone in our group got something different to eat from fish to beef and I have to tell you, everything was delicious! My NY strip was cooked to perfection. The only negative of the evening was that the air conditioning was not working so it was a tad warm. But what can you do, this is Florida. It happens! Do not let any negative reviews deter you from giving this restaurant a try. Even if just going for a drink to take in the atmosphere, I recommend it.

    The "plain" western omelette

I had to write this review before I even left the restaurant. The food needs help! I ordered the western omelette and upon delivery to the table I could already tell that it was going to taste like cardboard. What happen to the seasoning? I guess they ran out. The omelette was a little to greasy and the ingredients were not tasty at all. The side of potatoes were just placed on the stove and not seasoned at all very plain flavor. The service is very slow and a bit unorganized. Arrived at 10am and didn't get seated til about 1040am. It's sad because there in the center of a great resort with water views surrounding the restaurant. Honestly the only positive was that breakfast was included with the resort stay.

    We loved eating at Harborside!

This was the best restaurant for South Seas Captiva Resort. We are not seafood people, and were delighted that they served several other entrees in addition to seafood. The filet mignon was delicious! The view of the marina is beautiful and romantic. The service was also very good. I wasn't a big fan of the mashed potatoes, and the green beans could have been cooked a bit softer for my taste. All in all, the best date night of our vacation.

    Smoked old fashioned

OMG! I don't know where all the bad reviews are coming from, but our meal was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and didn't rush us through the meal. We began with the octopus appetizer. I had never had octopus before and was pleasantly surprised. It has a flavor and consistency of lobster. You just have to get around the suction cup aspect of the tentacles. We also ordered Cuban bread with adobo butter. Mostly this was meant for the entrees so we could absorb juices. The most stunning moment (for me) was my smoked Old Fashioned. It was so good and the smell of wood smoke was intoxicating. This is a very strong drink, so possibly avoid the urge to order another. For entrees I ordered the special ribeye with baked potato and broccolini. The ribeye was so flavorful, although I would have liked it a little more rare. The veggies were perfect. My husband had mahi-mahi covered in crab meat. Again, this was a perfectly seasoned dish and the fish was moist and tender. Of course, we perused the dessert menu. We shared an excellent crème brûlée. I also had a tiramisu dessert martini. Yum! This is not a place to go if you're on a budget, but the entire South Seas complex is for people who can spend a few (lot) bucks.

We ate here our first night because we arrived late and it was next to our resort building. When we saw the menu prices we were skeptical it would be worth it. So my husband ordered fish and chips for$22 and I ordered a wedge salad and the tempura battered cauliflower and green beans with Asian slaw. Adding fish or chicken tacked on an additional $20 so I didn't. The cauliflower and green beans were amazing!! My husband hates cauliflower and he was eating it!!( it's a very large portion to be shared). Since we've eaten on Captiva and Sanibel several days we've noticed the prices are high everywhere and the food isn't much to talk about. Seems like places get away with being mediocre because they know people will come and go. That being said the Harborside Grill is actually worth it and we'll go again before we leave. The drinks were on point, the atmosphere is nice indoors or out, right on the harbor with a great view. FYI they do have a breakfast buffet for $22.95, with omelette bar and everything else you'd want. I don't eat enough for breakfast to justify that price personally so we went elsewhere.

    Fish picatta special
    Shaan D.

We should have looked at these reviews before coming here, but being guests of the resort we didnt know any better. We arrived and the hostess was nowhere to be seen. We were finally seated after about 10 minutes and then it took a very long time for our waiter to come with waters. The service here is exceptionally slow. We ordered a Harborside salad to start, which was actually pretty good. Then it went downhill from there. They had a fish picatta special which 2 of us ordered. While the fish was fresh, it lacked any kind of flavor. The pesto risotto that came with it was okay, but the asparagus was also just bland. We also ordered the chicken which was dry and flavorless. Unfortunately we opted to order dessert, and the key lime pie was a huge disappointment. Everything about it was wrong. Even the creme brulee was not good. Please take your time and money elsewhere, you will thank yourself for it.

It was the right amount of tart, along with the whipped cream and some tart raspberry /lime syrup and it was a splendid combination. It was the perfect dessert to enjoy after a nice beach day and staying in paradise on Captiva. Can't speak for the actual food but the restaurant is super adorable and has half indoor and half outdoor seating and it's really nice. Plus, great key lime pie!

We were so happy to see that they rebuilt and the outside, in particular, looks almost the same! We have always ordered the crab cakes, spinach salad, and Keylime pie. My friend, who lives here, also ordered a Keylime martini. First of all, our waiter, Sal, gave her an outdated menu, so when she ordered the martini for $10, she was charged $15. Then the crab cakes came and they now look like they came from Costco. We asked Sal if they were made in house, and he said they were. Really? Today we ate at the Fresh Catch on Ft Myers Beach. I am posting pictures of the 2 crabcakes from Keylime. which cost me $18.00 and the 3 crabcakes I bought today for dinner at the Fresh Catch Bistro on Ft Myers beach for $15.00. We stopped in for lunch instead of dinner, and it turned out to be one of the best meals we had during our trip to Sanibel. We started with the crab cakes served with lobster sauced mango coleslaw, and jasmine rice. The flavors worked incredibly well together, with the sweetness of the mango and rice perfectly complementing the crab cakes and lobster sauce. For our entrées, we had the blackened grouper with yellow rice and black beans. Everything on the plate paired so well, and the grouper was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning. This took me back to other fantastic fish dishes in other islands like Hawaii, the keys, the Caribbean, etc... The piña colada was delicious and made the experience even more fun because it was served inside a real pineapple. It was refreshing and not too sweet, definitely something I would order again. We finished our meal with the key lime pie, which was the perfect ending. It was creamy, tart, and exactly what you hope for when ordering key lime pie in Florida. Before visiting, I noticed quite a few reviews mentioning long wait times. Thankfully, that wasn't our experience at all. We visited during lunch, so that may have made a difference, but we were seated quickly and received excellent service throughout our meal. Jenna was incredible, funny, and nice. Just about the entire staff has some whimsy about them. Telling us the history of the location and cracking jokes. I can honestly say I would probably drive the four hours to Sanibel just to eat at the Bubble Room again. Not because of the decorations or for the service, (these were great) but because the food left me craving more! The food, the atmosphere, and the overall experience made it well worth the trip. If you're visiting Sanibel and wondering if it's worth the hype, I would absolutely recommend giving it a try. Next time I'm going for dinner for sure!

This turned out to be one of our favorite stops on the island so far! We were lucky enough to have Rene as our server--friendly, upbeat, and genuinely helpful. She offered thoughtful recommendations and never missed a beat, even with a larger group. Let's talk food & drinks: Key Lime Frozen Drink - My brother ordered this and it was the standout of the day. Creamy, tart, and tropical. Like Key Lime Pie in a glass! Chicken Tenders & Fries - My daughter gave these a big thumbs up. The fries were golden, crispy, and super fresh--not greasy at all. Chicken BLT - I ordered this and skipped the brioche bun (though it looked amazing!). Even bun-less, it was flavorful and satisfying. Blackened Grouper Tacos - My dad went with these and they looked fantastic--fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor. He also had a Rum Runner, which was strong, smooth, and perfectly blended. (Not for the faint of heart!) The poolside ambiance was exactly what you want on a sunny island day--lively music, a splashing fountain, and a relaxed crowd. We didn't feel rushed, and it was easy to just settle in and enjoy the afternoon. Whether you are staying on the island or visiting for the day, definitely make time to stop here. Friendly service, great food, and that laid-back island energy. We will be back before the trip is over!

The place is casual, rustic, and come as you are. Got our drinks pdq. We decided to share a combo pot. But after some soup. Got the conch chowder. It came in a large, pretty plastic conch "shell". It was slightly spicy, but not much. In fact, there's hot sauces on the table if you need more heat. There was a nice amount of ground conch pieces in a tasty tomato based broth. It was big enough to share, btw. Then we got their combo steamed pot -- 1 dozen clams and 1 dozen oysters. This takes awhile to cook as we knew it would. So if you get one of these, order soup or an app while you're waiting. The clams are the cedar key ones. Small but tasty. We didn't use the melted butter, but asked for cocktail sauce instead. The oysters -- which you have to shuck with the provided knives -- were wonderful! I'd probably get all oysters next time. In the bottom of the pot are celery and onions which you can also eat. So glad we got to come here and enjoy lunch. We will be back next time on island.
