We discovered the Shipyard last year and has become one we look forward to each year now! We recently visited again and it was just as good as we remembered! Shipyard is located at Tween Waters resort. There are actually a couple of restaurants at this resort, but they are open to everyone, you do not need to be staying here. We did make a reservation but it is not needed. Inside is on the smaller side, not a lot of tables. It can get really busy during peak seasons. They do have a bar with seats and this time we went early and had some cocktails and apps before sitting down. My only issue this time, was we did make a reservation. They sat our party of 5 at a table for 4 with a chair on the end. We were very cramped. We did ask for a bigger table towards the back but were told it was for a group of 14. I get that HOWEVER, we were finished eating, paid and left before that group of 14 even showed up. We could have gotten a better seating arrangement. My sister sat on the end and we were extremely tight at the table. The chairs are also not hip friendly so I was extremely uncomfortable the entire time. This restaurant does offer great sunset views with all their open windows. Captiva is known for their beautiful sunsets. At the bar, we ordered cocktails and 2 apps. For appetizers we got the Drunken Shrimp which are large peeled Gulf Shrimp, cooked in a zesty sauce of beer, chili sauce and butter with bread for dipping, as well as friend Calamari. I did not love these shrimp to be honest. They had a weird sweet flavor to them. They were gigantic shrimp though, but I would not get these again. For drinks my husband ordered a Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned, which he enjoyed. I ordered the Key Lime Pie Martini which had Vanilla Vodka, Coco Lopez, Key Lime Juice, Graham Cracker Rim and I loved this! I got it last year as well and just as good as I remembered. My sister ordered a Rum Runner which she loved and my mom, ordered a Cosmopolitan. She enjoyed this too even saying it was the perfect color! IYKYK at the table I also ordered an espresso martini and my husband ordered one as well but with Casamigos Reposado tequila. Both very good! For food myself and my mom ordered our favorite item on the menu, I think about this dish and will probably get it each and every visit. It is the Sesame Blackened Salmon which is pan-seared sesame blackened Scottish Salmon with coconut rice, crisp stir-fry veggies, "Red Pepper Jam," and sweet soy. 100 out of 10!! My husband ordered the Salmon Club which was Grilled Scottish Salmon on sourdough toast with pineapple tartar sauce, sugar-cured bacon, lettuce and tomato. It was very tasty and really good. He enjoyed it. In the future though he would ask for the tarter on the side, it was pretty heavy and hes not a huge fan of tarter. My dad ordered the Grouper Sandwich which he got friend. It had lettuce, sliced tomato, red onion and pineapple tartar sauce served on a brioche bun, he did ask for the tarter on the side. It was very tasty. My sister was the only one who did not enjoy her meal and actually sent it back. She ordered the Grilled Grouper which was Served on coconut rice with Piña Colada butter, pineapple salsa and vegetable medley. It was also one of the most expensive items on the menu. It was a really sad serving of grouper, and it was ice cold, as though it had been sitting for a really long time. Overall, I would highly recommend this location. This has become our first night tradition and we will visit each and every year. Add this to your list for sure! read more

We did make a reservation but it is not needed. We arrived early so we decided to go sit at the bar and have some drinks and appetizers. Once seated at the bar we were greeted quickly by the bartender. We put in our order asap. For appetizers we got the Drunken Shrimp (Large peeled Gulf Shrimp, cooked in a zesty sauce of beer, chili sauce and butter with bread for dipping) and Calamari For drinks I ordered a Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned, my wife got a Key Lime Pie Martini ( Vanilla Vodka, Coco Lopez, Key Lime Juice, Graham Cracker Rim), my sister in law ordered a Rum Runner, my mother in law ordered a Cosmopolitan. We finish our appetizers before our table was ready in the main dining area. Once the buzzer went off we headed to our seats. Our server greeted us warmly and we knew exactly what we wanted so we put the orders in. We got second round of drinks. I got a Casamigos Reposado Espresso Martini, my wife got a regular Espresso Martini, mother in law ordered another Cosmopolitan. I ordered the Salmon Club (Grilled Scottish Salmon on sourdough toast with pineapple tartar sauce, sugar-cured bacon, lettuce and tomato) This was delicious. The sourdough toasted, salmon was well seasoned and hot, the only thing I should have asked was to put the sauce on the side; My wife and mother in law ordered the Sesame Blackened Salmon (Pan-seared sesame blackened Scottish Salmon with coconut rice, crisp stir-fry veggies, "Red Pepper Jam," and sweet soy) they said they enjoyed the meal. Quote the salmon is perfect; my father in law ordered the Grouper Sandwich (Your choice of grilled, blackened or fried fresh Gulf grouper with lettuce, sliced tomato, red onion and pineapple tartar sauce served on a brioche bun) he have it a 10 out of 10; my sister in law ordered the Grilled Grouper (Served on coconut rice with Piña Colada butter, pineapple salsa and vegetable medley) she unfortunately didn't like her meal. The grouper was cold a tough to chew. That was a bummer but staff was apologetic. All in all we will return to the Shipyard for sure. read more

4 stars means I will return! I didn't give it a 5 star because they don't provide any bread, or salad along with their entrees. But, their food is very good, tasty and plentiful in their portions. See photos of Steak Frites and Meatloaf dinners. I would suggest larger plates as they stack up items on top of the plate and for me that muddles the flavors. For instance on the steak frites, the fries (frites) were soggy from the steak juices. On the meatloaf, the marinara sauce was all over my mashed potatoes. I may be a bit fussy on items 'touching'. With that said, the steak was a ribeye selection and had great flavor cooked medium. Veggies were fresh and not soggy with some Brussels sprouts, squash broccoli and carrots. The meatloaf was veal, beef and pork, and had good flavor. 2 pc are included and generous in size so some came home. I will go again! read more

This was my favorite place for dinner while visiting Captiva. I really enjoyed the grouper rueben sandwich which was unique. I would recommend getting the grouper grilled instead of fried. Limited wine list and somewhat expensive too. The restaurant looked to be remodeled after the recent hurricane . Note that you will need a resy for dinner during high season. Excellent food. Had the salmon delicious! Calamari was plentiful delicious. Something new we tried the swamp cabbage fritters which is heart of palm and the dipping sauce was delicious. Stopped in here for dinner while visiting Sanibel beach for the day. Not many parking spots, but we got lucky and found one right in the front. Inside is nothing special. There's a bar area right once you walk in and then a more classic dining area with booths alongside the wall and tables in the middle. We ordered two shrimp dishes. The drunken shrimp, which my husband was a major fan of! He's not a bread guy but there is a French baguette drenched in this delightful sauce and it soaks it up wonderfully. Was such a great bite! The second shrimp dishes was the shrimp and grits, which compared to the first we could have skipped on. It's wasn't bad, just wasn't as good as the other! I ordered the patty melt and this hit the spot! The fries were larger and very good, a little cold though. The patty melt had the delicious onions and sauce that sat on the rye bread beautifully. I could only eat half, but finished the rest on the car ride home because it was that good! Service is fast, food comes out fairly fast as well. Manager kept walking around checking on everyone which was nice, but he would stare at the waitresses with the most judgmental face which wasn't necessary. We tried this place after a very unpleasant experience at another restaurant on the island. We got here around 4:30, we were seated promptly and informed the dinner menu wasn't available until 5:00, but we were welcome to order drinks prior to that time. At 4:55, our waitress showed back up and took our order so it was in right at 5:00. Food was good, service was excellent and the restaurant was very cute and clean. Even though it took us a bit to get seated (without a reservation - we knew we'd have to wait), the vibes were great and the hostess worked hard to get us seated. Prior to Hurricane Ian, this was formerly known as the Crow's Nest (that is now upstairs and a steakhouse). The decor is still very nautical either a large bar section. There is a large variety of food as well as a robust pizza menu. Our server was Amanda and she was efficient. I'm glad there are places on Captiva that are open. First time visiting and dining g at the Shipyard. Great atmosphere. Small but decent menu, but not the same as the choices listed on Yelp. Maybe it is the islands but 2nd burger I have had in as many days, and the burger is cooked fantastic and the bacon is way over cooked (in fact charred). Home-made BBQ chips were a bit overcooked as well. I did sample the pineapple slaw, and it was quite tasty. read more

The staff seemed a little distracted or overwhelmed, which was totally understandable, and the service was still good overall. I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant! This is such a cute American restaurant located in the Tweens resort in Captiva. I was here for 4 days and came here for dinner two of the days; we did not regret it at all! The restaurant itself is medium sized and a tad more higher end than casual, but nothing too fancy at all. It was the perfect place for dinner and drinks. They have a big bar inside and many tables great for groups. Our server Ashlee was awesome! So funny, personable, and attentive. The food was a hit, too Mac and cheese dip - 9/10: super cheesy queso dip with elbow macaroni served with colorful tortilla chips. Good for cheese lovers! Fish tacos: 9.5/10: fresh, flavorful, and pretty filled for 2 tacos. Fried calamari salad: 9.5/10: this was a hit. Loved the crispy wontons, calamari, and dressing. Onion rings - 9/10: crispy and delicious. I didn't personally try other dishes, but the people I was with got various burgers, the avocado caesar salad, roasted vegetable primavera, BLT, and the fried shrimp dinner and all said each meal was a 10/10. We arrived at Tween Waters pretty late and we were happy that the Shipyard was still open. Frank was our server and was excellent. We ordered the ceviche for an appetizer and it was excellent! We both then ordered the grilled grouper sandwich and it was very good as well. It suffered by comparison to Lazy Flamingo's Mesquite grilled grouper sandwich but it's still a great sandwich. read more

Good food and good service. We had dinner at the shipyard tonight, it used to be the crows nest, and I was been renamed. It has good, basic seafood. We started with a good salad and a delicious appetizer called drunken shrimp, which is shrimp steamed in beer and served in a tomato garlic, sweet and sour Sauce with garlic. Delicious! Then we had a very good grilled salmon, with sesame, soy honey glaze and a peanut coleslaw. I had a decent crabcake with coleslaw and coconut rice. All in all, a nice meal. This trip, May of 2025, the service was sub-par, no greeting from our server other than asking for our drink order, The restaurant was fairly busy but not near full. The food was fine but my blackened grouper sandwich was soggy and fell apart as soon as I picked it up. Taste was ok but I wouldn't order again. The rest of our meals were good, there were 8 of us. We had to send the two different sangrias back, very flat and dry for sangria. We had a far better overall experience at Doc Fords on Sanibel the night before. Had dinner here for the first time and was so glad we did. We were seated at a hightop in the bar right away. Service was fast and friendly. And the Rum Runner was delicious - not too strong, but I was feeling happy by the time I finished:-) I had the barbecue ribs which were juicy and flavorful. We were excited to come here to see what they had done - we have been coming to the island for 40-years. Great decor and they kept the bar the same as when it was Crow's Nest. The service was very good but the food was mediocre at best. We got the BBQ chips which we thought were over seasoned. My wife ordered the Thai Salad and for the first time ever actually returned it and got the Patty Melt which was OK. The fries were great! I got the grouper sandwich which tasted OK but came to the table soggy. Key Lime pie was good. It's disappointing as we were hoping that the food was going to be good. Variety of typical restaurant food choices at Tween Waters. Service was good. It previously held the name "Crow's Nest". Sits between the Old Captiva House and the new Crow's Nest steak house. All are on Tween Waters property. Only one thing is missing, Sweet Tea which is served at nearly all southern restaurants. I will say for Tony and other share holders we liked the restaurant arrangements like they were a couple of years ago. During a recent stay at South Seas Resort, and with limited options to dine out, we decided to try this relatively new spot. We came for dinner and were so glad we did. From the fun, higher end casual ambiance to the food we were very happy. What elevated the experience was our server, Robin. She is a gem! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, while looking out at the sunset and had a great conversation with (Doug?) Jensen as well.
