I enjoyed the fried shrimp basket and draft Kona wave beer pairing. I thought that the cocktail sauce could have used more horseradish...a little bit too mild. Service was prompt and enthusiastic wait staff. Outdoor dining is an option with live music in the afternoon. Good eats and fun time while visiting Captiva.

After a day on captiva cruises we didn't have to wander far to find this place. Beautiful day and very happy to sit outside. Besides the sun there was live music with a very friendly artist as well. Server was great and the kitchen staff helped entertain our kids with the giant lizards they caught out back and showed us! Really neat. The food was pretty good, the only criticism would be higher prices for some of the dishes. Mainly my shrimp pasta was just alright. Also one of my drinks was a little funky (Bloody Mary that had a coco rum flavor in it) . The fish tacos were a raving hit though! Great flavor and really stood alone; catch of the day is probably the best go to. I would recommend trying this place out and especially looks like the breakfast dishes are a big hit so might have to try that as well.

We've enjoyed RC Otters for years and this was our first visit back post-Ian + Milton. My fish sandwich was great. Fish so fresh you would've never been able to guess it was fish. Served piping hot with good crunchy layering. An enjoyable seafood meal for sure. My group also enjoys their peel n eat shrimp. I'm sure we will be back.

I'm glad they are open and survived the Ian hurricane. They were closed a bit for a Hallmark movie shoot (that's kinda cool). Fish (Hank's) reuben was pretty decent. Prices seemed pretty steep - $3 upcharge for fries Atmosphere a dingy Jamacian vibe Live musician daily

    Seafood fajitas...not a great photo

My parents and I came here before I left Florida. What a cute spot on Captiva Island. We arrived early, so it wasn't busy. As the night went on, the restaurant started filling up. They have live music on Sunday nights, maybe each weekend night. My parents and I split the seafood fajitas which was more than enough for 3 people. The seafood was a combination of shrimp, scallops and fresh fish, which was all very delicious. They give you 3 fresh tortillas to start with, but will give you more if needed. If you find yourself on captiva island and are looking for something good to eat, I'd definitely recommend coming to RC Otters!

My wife and I were tired of the same 7 restaurants that we seem to visit every time we come to…read moreCaptiva. The fact that 3 of those 7 have been permanently (or semi-permanently) shut down notwithstanding- we finally decided to explore a few new places. Sunshine popped up in Yelp! and it sounded interesting and looked like a cute little place (according to the wife) If you're not specifically LOOKING for it- you'll easily miss it, if that makes sense. It's located right next to RC Otters (their outside seating seamlessly segues into Otters' outdoor tables) and there's very limited parking. They do, in fact, have their own parking lot but, due to hurricane rebuilding construction, it's quite difficult to figure out the maze-like separation of fencing and one-way arrows, ha ha! Once we found a spot and wandered over to the restaurant, the hostess/waitress (and, I suspect? part owner?) came out to greet us. We were seated -outside at our request -at a nice table underneath an outdoor pavilion-style area. Ceiling fans were abundant and the air was redolent with the aromas of cooking from more than just one or two kitchens! My wife and I ordered the Focaccia bread with roasted garlic and a balsamic reduction, and the Lobster Bisque. The bread was-- JJ Walker style-- DY-NO-MITE! And the two condiments really worked well with amazing bread. My wife's soup was fabulous- it came in a crock baked with a puff-pastry shell over the top. Each bite composed of savory pastry, large chunks of lobster meat, and a sherry-sweetened seafood cream broth. We cleaned our respective plates with much sharing and crumb-making! My dinner was the Chef's take on Paella. It was very interesting- adding capers, Kalamata olives, and artichoke hearts to the standard shrimp, clams, chicken, and Chorizo, served over tender rice. My wife's dish was the star of the show- she had the fish special: Chilean Sea Bass with a Sweet Thai chili sauce served over blah blah blah with a side of whazzawhoozit. I'm sorry- the fish was SOOOO good that I've forgotten what else was on her plate! Either way- the piece of fish was absolutely enormous and the sauce was just fabulous. I'm fairly certain there were a few shrimp gracing the plate as well, but again- THAT FISH! We were both so insanely full that we didn't even think about perusing the desert menu. I'm sure that whatever they may have had on offer was fabulous but we just couldn't eat another bite. The service was impeccable. The food was to die for (That FISH!!! That SOUP!) and even the ambiance was totally "island time!" Sunshine Cafe is now on our rotation for next year! I highly recommend stopping in for a bite if you have the opportunity! EDIT: as noted in another review- my wife ordered the Sea Bass "special." While we never saw the special on the menu (it was read off to us as we sat at the table) we were also NOT informed about the "Special surcharge." It was $22.00. Look- I'm not a cheapskate. I don't usually look too closely at the prices while we're out dining on vacation. I'm a ridiculous tipper. If the service was decent- I'll always give 20, 25, even 30%. NOT all that long ago, I gave a $100 tip on a $200 bill. BUT- backdoor and hidden charges make me wildly upset. The Sea Bass was amazingly good. But it was $70.00 instead of $48.00 thanks to the "special surcharge". I took 2 stars off for deceptive pricing. I WILL examine the next check very carefully. I do NOT include tax and surcharges on the amount that I tip on. This will be reflected in my next tip, as well. Grrrrr!

We had very good service throughout even though they were busy. We weren't rushed. We dined leisurely but without gaps between courses. We shared a Caesar salad to start. It was a good appetizer. And served over mashed potatoes with asparagus and carrots. The portion was large. My husband had the burgundy braised short ribs. The meat was tender and flavorful. He said the sauce they were in was just rich and wonderful. We were too full to try any of their desserts. As we were leaving, we both said that this restaurant is a "keeper". We stopped in for lunch instead of dinner, and it turned out to be one of the best meals we had during our trip to Sanibel. We started with the crab cakes served with lobster sauced mango coleslaw, and jasmine rice. The flavors worked incredibly well together, with the sweetness of the mango and rice perfectly complementing the crab cakes and lobster sauce. For our entrées, we had the blackened grouper with yellow rice and black beans. Everything on the plate paired so well, and the grouper was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning. This took me back to other fantastic fish dishes in other islands like Hawaii, the keys, the Caribbean, etc... The piña colada was delicious and made the experience even more fun because it was served inside a real pineapple. It was refreshing and not too sweet, definitely something I would order again. We finished our meal with the key lime pie, which was the perfect ending. It was creamy, tart, and exactly what you hope for when ordering key lime pie in Florida. Before visiting, I noticed quite a few reviews mentioning long wait times. Thankfully, that wasn't our experience at all. We visited during lunch, so that may have made a difference, but we were seated quickly and received excellent service throughout our meal. Jenna was incredible, funny, and nice. Just about the entire staff has some whimsy about them. Telling us the history of the location and cracking jokes. I can honestly say I would probably drive the four hours to Sanibel just to eat at the Bubble Room again. Not because of the decorations or for the service, (these were great) but because the food left me craving more! The food, the atmosphere, and the overall experience made it well worth the trip. If you're visiting Sanibel and wondering if it's worth the hype, I would absolutely recommend giving it a try. Next time I'm going for dinner for sure!
