We have had good experiences in the past with this restaurant. However, when we went on Easter we were quite disappointed. I have food allergies and was very surprised that with their price fixed menu I had little to no options to enjoy alternative food options. I only got a portion of the appetizer because the rest of it had dairy that I couldn't eat. There was no substitute for the mashed potatoes in the entree so I just didn't get any. And there was nothing to substitute in the dessert so I got nothing. YET - I still had to pay the $65 fixed price for half a meal. Super disappointing. read more

We had very good service throughout even though they were busy. We weren't rushed. We dined leisurely but without gaps between courses. We shared a Caesar salad to start. It was a good appetizer. For my main entree, I had the lamb chops. There were two double chops perfectly cooked to my request -- crisped on the outside. They were delicious. And served over mashed potatoes with asparagus and carrots. The portion was large. My husband had the burgundy braised short ribs. The meat was tender and flavorful. He said the sauce they were in was just rich and wonderful. We were too full to try any of their desserts. As we were leaving, we both said that this restaurant is a "keeper". Our last night on Sanibel Captiva and my wife had made reservations for the end of my Birthday Vacay. So glad she did! After a friendly welcome, we were seated and our server Eric took our drink orders. After looking over the menu and hearing the tempting Specials for the night, we chose our meals. On the plus side, very nice setting and the food is good. It appears the staff from the hostess desk to the servers were relatively new. We had a side order of pancakes asked for extra plates twice, we never received them; it wasn't busy. In short, the service didn't match the price, location and excellent ambience. Will be back again in a few months, but the expectations will be higher. Need a MOD. Btw, remove the jellies and other edibles from empty tables; crows were flying into the outside dining area and pecking them open. Wow! If you are looking for an elevated dining experience in Sanibel/Captiva, this is the spot! We had great service and Hannah was incredibly knowledgeable in navigating some dietary restrictions. Upon hearing that I am gluten free, she immediately put in an order of gluten free bread for the table. We enjoyed the shrimp and lobster cocktail before our main courses. I got the (gluten free) blackened snapper, but the watermelon cucumber salad side completely stole the show. The grouper (atop lobster risotto) also looked and smelled incredible! Hello, just a terrible experience. 7:30ish sat at table and server asked to start off with couple drinks. Almost 1/2 hour before served. Note, only 2 people at the bar and restaurant inside and outside was not busy at all. Actually empty. only about 25%. Server past several times. Finally wine arrived and order went in. Bread at the table was warm, but horrible. seems like some frozen bread from sysco. Caesar Salad had no flavor and welted. The Scallops dish looked nice but lacked flavor also. Crab and lobster dry and tasteless. Rice tasted like minute rice. Veggies over done and soggy. The Short Ribs were ok with the same soggy veggies. Service was very poor. I do not leave reviews but with the price paid and the write up that this place is an elegant dining experience, I had to leave my opinion. I have been a chef in the past and know operations very well. This was just run poorly all around for the service and prices. Wonderful dinner experience. Location is super cool, you can park and easily walk across the street to see sunset or beach views. The waitress was even accommodating enough to let us move tables to see the sunset better. Our group tried a variety of things. Drinks were a dirty martini, chocolate martini, and hibiscus high. All were good, the hibiscus high kind of lacked flavor. Starters were the lobster and corn chowder, wedge salads, and the Korean pork belly- all phenomenal. Despite having a confirmed reservation through OpenTable (which we even proved), the staff claimed they couldn't find it and made no real effort to make things right. The manager was dismissive and rude, clearly more concerned with how busy they were than with helping us. For a place with such a good reputation, we expected far better customer service. As one of the only places we could dine as of this point post-hurricane, I want to support, but the overwhelming mold/musty smell encountered when entering the establishment was quite off-putting. I would not have stayed if it were up to me. Our welcome from the hostess desk was quite ho hum and service was good but not amazing. The food was also good but not great - flavor wasn't well balanced, veg not cooked appropriately (both overcooked as well as undercooked). A fine meal, but slow to progress and come out from the kitchen, and price point just didn't match what we experienced in my opinion. We came in for dinner and most of us were not very hungry so we got a few appetizers. One friend ordered the Grouper dinner. The Blue Crab Bisque was delicious and was wonderfully presented. The ceasar salad was also good although the dressing was a bit runny. I was very disappointed in the lobster risotto. It was all crispy panko crumbs with good-sized lobster chunks but the risotto was dry. It had no flavor. Everyone enjoyed their salad and the shrimp and scallop appetizer. Our service was very good. We came back in the next morning for breakfast. I got the Grand Marnier French Toast which I loved but it just tasted like normal French toast. I also ordered a side of bacon for $5 which was perfectly cooked and a good deal for $5. The orange juice was fresh squeezed and cold. We had a nice butt pricey dinner at old Captiva house. I had a good Caesar salad with lots of Areman cheese, and the house garden salad was very good. We had grilled grouper that was nice, and I had blackened snapper that was warm crispy on the outside, but the blackened flavoring was subdued. The Keylime pie was delicious and sour with a nice butter graham cracker crust. The service was very good. The prices were extra high. All in all a good but expensive dinner. read more

Had a work event at the Marriott Sanibel resort and I wanted to see the island, it had been since 2019. Found this restaurant based on a Yelp GF search. Made a reservation for myself and a coworker, she lives in Montana so she was looking for seafood. We were greeted with warm smiles and hellos, seated at a clean table near a window. The service was prompt and knowledgeable. The menu is not marked gluten free but most of the food is naturally gluten free. It's heavy on the seafood side ( thank goodness!) Jamie and I ended up splitting three appetizers and a the grouper meal. They brought bread and olive oil dip for the gluten eater, I asked if they had gluten free bread which they found and brought out two slices, no charge. We split the escargot, scallops, jumbo lump crab apps. The jumbo lump crab was succulent, clean and fresh. Filled with clean ingredients, the scallops were cooked perfect, but only two on the plate, I would have enjoyed more. They came with a watermelon, arugula salad and balsamic sauce. So good! The escargot was cooked to perfection in a nice tomato sauce. The grouper was settled on some potato's and other veggies and a yummy sauce, unsure what the sauce was but delish! I've been here several times over the Years. This restaurant is located inside of Tween Waters. I always enjoyed their brunch. They do an awesome spread for Mother's Day, Easter and other holidays. The inside of the restaurant was beautiful and the service was excellent. We were greeted the moment we walked in and was checked on by multiple people throughout the evening. We got the deconstructed spicy tuna roll for a starter and it was delicious. The tuna was in big chunks. The crackers have quite a bit of wasabi on them so be careful to those who don't like wasabi! The blackened snapper was perfectly cooked. We didn't love the special of the day however. The fried fish was cooked well, but the sauce that it came with had orange peel in it and it was extremely overpowering. We were on vacation to Captiva island and friends told us to go to the old Captiva house for dinner and we did. It was our anniversary and we were celebrating. It's located at the tween waters Resort and is a very beautiful resort and restaurant. We thought we had a reservation, but we were not on the list so our hostess was very gracious and found us a table. We had a very pleasant server that told us about specials and opened one of the two bottles of wine that we had brought with us to the restaurant. Everyone ordered from the menu. We are fresh bread, hot out of the oven and drank good red wine. No one ordered an appetizer but I think I would have liked the escargot that we saw delivered to another table close by. I ordered the prime, dry aged 30 days, ribeye steak, medium, served with smashed potatoes and mushrooms The steak was perfect, cooked perfectly and incredibly flavorful, no steak sauce needed. And the portion was healthy. My wife ordered the Chilean Sea Bass served with polenta, vegetables and citrus butter. She said the fish was very good and the citrus butter really complemented the dish. She had never had polenta but found it to be a very good choice for the dish. The dinner was flawless and the food over the top. The only catch was, it was our anniversary and they didn't offer anything. read more

It was watered down and tasted like it needed to be returned. Deconstructed tuna was a tuna tower... not bad. Drinks were good. Balanced and fast. IMO prices were not up to par with expectations. Beautiful setting, great service, and enjoyed our food. They had a kids menu and were kid friendly, despite a more formal looking atmosphere. The bread was delicious, as were the drinks! I'm a vegetarian and they customized a dish for me. They take reservations, and moved ours for us the day of when we realized we were tired and wanted to eat earlier. June 2019- This was our first time to Old Captiva House for breakfast and we ordered the Chorizo Omelot, Lobster Benedict and Grand Marnier French Toast. The omelot and Benedict was served with potatoes that were very flavorful. Both entrees were very tasty and flavorful. The grand Marnier French Toast was thick, with a subtle sweetness. Very well prepared. The restaurant is well lit and comfortable, not too crowded and windows all around. The staff is very nice, friendly and welcoming. We will definitely come back to this restaurant and recommend even if you aren't staying at TweenWaters Resort. June 20, 2020- today we dined at Old Captiva House for breakfast and then again for dinner. For breakfast we ordered Traditional Eggs Benedict served with breakfast potatoes $11.95, Grand Marnier French Toast $10.25, and Two Eggs, Bacon, Breakfast Potatoes and toast $9.95. Everything was wonderful. The bacon was quality and prepared just right. The breakfast potatoes were crisp and seasoned nicely although a bit salty. The Grand Marnier French Toast was crisp and very flavorful. The Eggs Benedict was also very tasty and we substituted the Canadian bacon for sliced tomatoes. Our server was Rosenadine and she was friendly and attentive. We went back for dinner to celebrate our 1st Anniversary. Anthony was our server and he was professional and attentive. We ordered appetizers Crab Bisque which was served deconstructed and constructed right in front of us. The presentation was lovely and the flavor was very nice. The other appetizer was a Lobster cake served with an avocado slaw. The cake was lightly crisped and probably the best I've had and the avocado slaw was very good and unique to me. For the main course we ordered the pan seared 9 Oz filet with roasted garlic Parmesan potatoes and vegetables $42. This was cooked perfectly, lean and very tasty. The second entree was Jumbo Prawns served with asparagus and a creamy Maine Lobster risotto with a key lime butter sauce $36. There were three large grilled prawns and this was a very tasty dish. We definitely recommend Old Captiva House for Breakfast and dinner and we will be back on our next visit. read more

Old Captiva House is one of the few white table restaurants on either Sanibel or Captiva. It has been around forever and is now at Tween Waters Inn. While the atmosphere and service is good, the food is lacking in taste. Not bad, just very bland. Nice for a big group or a quiet celebration, just nothing special. The food at Old Captiva House (Tween Waters Inn) never disappoints. Between my choice of Giant Prawns, on Lobster Risotto, with key lime butter sauce, to my partner's choice of Cioppino, we were in heaven. The only less than superb aspect was our waiter, who was competent but not engaging. Didn't mention any specials, made no recommendations. Got the job done, but that was it. However, the food manager did come to our table to see how we liked our meal, and she was pleasant and welcoming. Overall a great meal. Be warned however: parking can be difficult to find. read more

People circle the parking lot trying to find a place to park since they don't have adequate parking. I asked about additional parking options and was told I should just park in any open spot. Hello! I wouldn't be asking if there were open spots. Next although we had a reservation we were told it'll be a few minutes. That's fine it's a busy place. But... 30 minutes later we were shown to an inside table. Our reservation was for an outside table. They had canceled outside seating. They should've had the courtesy to let us know and not keep us waiting for 30 minutes and then seat us inside at beautiful Captiva Island. Probably should've left at that point. Decided to stay because it had four stars. The server was almost nonexistent. Took our order and much later picked up the Check. That was about it. Had to flag people down for an extra napkin even though she was there when there was a spill. Had to flag somebody down for a refill on the water. The food was surprisingly good compared to the rest of the awful experience. My compliments to the chef Maybe this is a place that's popular with the locals and there's a secret handshake that gets you decent service. If you're a tourist, take the hint and go elsewhere they don't seem to want your business. I usually tip 20% of the bill after tax. It really burned me to leave any tip but I tipped just a touch under 15% of the pretax charge. The clueless server is probably upset but really should be thanking me for that much of a tip on on an expensive meal in a restaurant that has the potential makings of a nice restaurant but isn't. After driving 24hrs to get to beautiful Sanibel Island, this was the first place we decided to eat at for a nice, relaxing sit down breakfast. The reviews look exceptional, and there were tables available. We arrived a few minutes after our reservation because we were new to the area and had a little trouble finding the Captiva House. There is parking if you are not a guest staying in the hotel. We were greeted by the hostess. She asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside. I asked how the outdoor seating was. The hostess replied with a a little attitude saying it is like what it is where we just came in from. We decided to sit indoors. There was a table for two by the window with a view of the water. She instead led us to a table in on the opposite side of the porch area near high traffic. I asked for a different table. She led us to a table with four seats, but not the table for two by the window. Two women walked in after us and the hostess sat them at the table by the window. We both ordered the same breakfast. Two eggs over easy, bacon and breakfast potatoes. The food was just alright. Not worth it in my opinion. If you get a table by the window or sit out in the patio which is shaded under a nice canopy, you might enjoy the experience. We did enjoy walking by the water by the docks in the back of the Captiva House where there a gentle manatees swimming around. We also caught a glimpse of ospreys up in their nest. The story of Ding Darling on the placemats was interesting to read. His fun cartoons are displayed in the lobby. Overall, I recommend checking out the place. It looks like a nice place to stay, but get breakfast elsewhere and book ahead. I'm understanding why this was the only place with tables available at the last minute. read more
