I checked…read moreon Yelp for suggestions, and after perusing what was open on that day and hour, we headed to Shamrock. Located on Paradise Bay and with a large side patio, we happily made our way over on our bikes for dinner. The bartender greeted me when I walked in, and when I said that I wanted to sit in the patio, she said "Sure! Grab a seat wherever you like." I found one in the front corner, perfect for watching the Bay, and ordered a Shirley Temple and a Chicken Cordon Bleu wrap. Both arrived in a decent amount of time. The wrap really hit the spot that evening. Crispy chicken tenders with ham and cheese for a little crunch from the fresh lettuce and tomato, all on a toasty wrap. The fries were cooked to golden and came with a smorgasbord of sauces for dipping. While we ate, we watched the calming scenery of the sapphire bay, and waved hello to bikers who pedaled past, all while keeping an eye out for the seagulls who kept watch for any morsel of food we may drop. The food was filling, the service was friendly, and the location couldn't be beat. For dinner on Beaver Island, don't hesitate to stop by Shamrock!

This is a common problem on Beaver Island because everything has to be brought off island but when you're paying almost $30 for a pretty average burger or some bland fish and chips, then it becomes a bit weird. I think if the new owners take over, they should either lower prices or improve the food quality because the quality of the food really doesn't match the expense. The service is pretty lackadaisical but I haven't had really bad service here just it tends to run on "island time" The bar and the patio are both very charming

At least that's what I took from my experience at Dalwhinnie, where I had two meals in one day on a recent trip to the island. A mere 1/2 mile from the center of downtown and next to McDonaugh's grocery, Dalwhinnie boasts a large front porch facing Paradise Bay, with lots of tables for outdoor dining. For breakfast, I decided on the Lake Michigan Eggs Benedict. I don't know why I never thought of this one, because it's essentially the love child of two of my favorite brunch dishes -- Eggs Benedict and Lox Bagels. With some fresh arugula to accompany, it was even more delicious than I had hoped for. We got a small coffee at breakfast, which came with free refills -- a nice perk! We returned later the same day after a 20 mile bike ride, ready for something else tasty. I had a hard time deciding, as all of the wraps and sammies had delicious-sounding descriptions. Chicken ranch wrap was the winner, and it didn't disappoint. Chicken, ranch, cheese, spinach, and tomato were tucked into a lightly grilled wrap, with some crunchy pickle slices on the side. I don't remember the last time I went to the same restaurant twice in one day, but I hope that my next trip to Beaver Island has me doing the same again at Dalwhinnie!

I also like being so close to the water and the porch. One thing that was a bit of a bummer was getting my chips in a bag with my sandwich. There was a wait and the food took a bit too, but it was still doable. I loved all the options and the sandwiches are a good size! They come with a bag of chips, but you can upgrade to get a drink and additional side (I picked the coleslaw). I think I would have just been fine with the chips, honestly. The coleslaw was good, but not anything amazing. I thought my sandwich was pretty good, and I appreciate the dips and sauces they serve with it. The chicken on my sandwich was a bit dry, but the sauce helped a lot. I got to try a different sandwich from my friend and it was good too, but also a bit dry (oddly!). I'd definitely come back here again and I think this spot is a great option. The area is so congested, expensive, and busy, so I appreciated that this was different!

I was very surprised at how empty this place was because the food was so good!! You get a large portion for 15-18$ and it comes with choice of chips. I love the creative combination of flavors, works so well!! After eating American food all weekend, I was looking for something that stood out and Zachariahs was just what I was looking for! Had a hard time deciding between the Mighty Mac and Pistachio Press. Went with the Mighty Mac & it didn't disappoint. High protein and the Greek yogurt ranch was phenomenal. I should have gotten both to be honest because I can't stop thinking of the pistachio press. Lol

She had to add that it was sometimes a 1-1.5 hour wait so we should be happy. Some people (apparently locals) walked in and got their sandwiches right away. After 45 minutes, we asked and it turned out they stuck our order in a bucket at the back of the line and had not even started it. They claimed they would put the order at the front of the line and it would take 15 more minutes, even though they were new customers walking in and it was less than a 15 minute wait. We asked if they could make them faster. The young man apologized nicely but the older lady owner/manager stepped in and said rudely that's all they could do. She did not apologize let alone offer us a discount for their mistake. We understand they were busy and people make mistakes but there is no excuse for treating customers so rudely after their clear error. We planned on spending over $100 but apparently our money was not good enough for them. This was 4th of July week so I was wearing a USA t shirt and we are convinced this is why they "lost" our order and treated us so poorly. Avoid this place at all costs especially if you love America!
