Lake Michigan Benedict -- think the best parts of Eggs Benedict and a Lox Bagel, yum!
    Suzanne B.

Although the selection of restaurants on Beaver Island is small, they don't skimp on quality or flavor. At least that's what I took from my experience at Dalwhinnie, where I had two meals in one day on a recent trip to the island. A mere 1/2 mile from the center of downtown and next to McDonaugh's grocery, Dalwhinnie boasts a large front porch facing Paradise Bay, with lots of tables for outdoor dining. For breakfast, I decided on the Lake Michigan Eggs Benedict. I don't know why I never thought of this one, because it's essentially the love child of two of my favorite brunch dishes -- Eggs Benedict and Lox Bagels. With some fresh arugula to accompany, it was even more delicious than I had hoped for. We got a small coffee at breakfast, which came with free refills -- a nice perk! We returned later the same day after a 20 mile bike ride, ready for something else tasty. I had a hard time deciding, as all of the wraps and sammies had delicious-sounding descriptions. Chicken ranch wrap was the winner, and it didn't disappoint. Chicken, ranch, cheese, spinach, and tomato were tucked into a lightly grilled wrap, with some crunchy pickle slices on the side. I don't remember the last time I went to the same restaurant twice in one day, but I hope that my next trip to Beaver Island has me doing the same again at Dalwhinnie!

What a gem! All of the staff here are friendly and the food is delicious! Don't miss out on Taco Night! There are plenty of delicious vegan and vegetarian options. This is our favorite dining spot on the island.

    The best breakfast burrito!

Dalwhinnie is the best place for food on the island! Everything I've eaten here has been delicious and packed with flavor. Highly recommend the breakfast burrito and taco night! The staff is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. Don't miss this special place!

The food here is excellent, fresh and light. They have some of the best scrambled eggs I've tasted. The scrambled eggs are fluffy and light cooked exactly as requested. The French toast is excellent comes with powdered sugar and syrup. Most of all the service is great and welcoming, makes me want to eat here daily. Everyone here speaks and makes outsiders feel welcome, the locals are very friendly and welcoming. This place also has free coffee refill as well.

$5 slice and a coke!!! Fresh made, will be back for more.

$5 slice of pizza and a pop was a quick and affordable bite, very fresh , excellent quality. You can tell it was home made, will be back for more.

    Terrific setting. Nice store layout.

A very nice place for a late lunch. Helpful staff. I ordered fruit, dessert and a drink. Susan was a terrific server. Took care of my order and had me eating in no time. I loved the porch view of the lake. Wonderful wicker chairs with comfy cushions. I could stay all day. Highly recommend. I will return.

Doud's is a small market, but it has lots of stuff. As far as I know, this is one of the only markets on Mackinac Island. There actually is another Doud's down Main Street toward the ferry area, but it's a smaller grab-and-go convenience store, mostly with snacks and coffee. My hotel was right across the street, so I bopped into Doud's a couple of times during my stay, to grab a bottle of wine (they have a decent selection of wine), some candy for my kids, and some fruit because I needed to eat something fresh. The store is tidy and everything is arranged nicely. They also have self-checkout kiosks, so you can get in and out quickly.

The cherry chicken salad & cherry chicken salad wrap are customer favorites. The store also features a variety of baked goods, along with a comprehensive selection of wine, beer, and spirits.

At about 14 a2 to $15 apiece this is one of the rare exceptions where it is a good value because you will get two meals out of each sandwich. We ordered a Tripoli (ham, turkey, salami, and provolone, lettuce, and tomato) and a Gaza ( curried chicken, lettuce, tomato, shredded carrot, and peas) both on rye bread. Both sandwiches were made with high-quality ingredients and we would definitely recommend either of them. Again, I cannot stress it enough, the sandwiches are enormous, and you really should share. it feels like a grammar school, kind of a cafeteria, it's modern and clean, but not particularly in inviting or appealing or charming in any way. Enjoyed the banana cream pie; flaky crust, beautiful, fluffy and creamy. Service. Very friendly when you walked in, eventhough we arrived half hour before closing. They did not act too annoyed. It is a small town and they can tell we were 'tourists' because they seemed to know everyone else that came in, and walked over to the bar area. We were sat near the front windows of the main dining room. Then a large table of 6 adults got sat next to us when there is OTHER ample seating in the rest of the restaurant. I do not get why staff does that? Do you think we like diners next to us talking about their colonoscopies and health procedures that end in 'ectomies' while we (a couple) are trying to have a quiet dinner? *smh* Ambiance. Bright. Nautical decor. I think? Clean. Open kitchen. Nice. Parking and things of note. Street parking. Look clean and stocked. This joint does charge an additional SUSTAINABLE FEE when you pay with plastic and not cash. *rolled eyes* Anyway, photodocumented the overall experience which we would rate 'good' because we did come back for the salad, desserts, and service.
