We needed to upgrade our entire HVAC system due to rising energy costs. We had a furnace on propane and the cost to use it is almost prohibitive.The hubby is a professional commercial HVAC control's technician and did a lot of research and contacted Harter Electric. They came out for for a quote and check what we needed. When the consult and quote was done, within 2 days we were scheduled and installation began. The crew was professional and quick with the work. Now, we have a system that is so much more comfortable and keeps all rooms at a constant temperature. Five rooms, 5 room systems and 2 outside units with all electrical and ductwork was done in 1 1/2 days. The cool part of the system is it's controlled by remote, and there's one in each room, but if one is lost, they work on the rest, Awesome thing about this system, each room can be set to heat, cool and automatic control. You set the temp you want (all function controlled by remote control) and how powerful you want the fan, you can set it to sweep back and forth etc... One thing I do want to say that I was able to dictate the placement of the unit in our bedroom. Although it may have been easier for the crew to place the unit a wall closer to the outside unit, I requested another wall so I did not have to move family pictures and special things. The owner told me, that I had to live with it, so they would do what I wanted. I'm disabled and having thing's comfortable isn't always easy. The cost of this system is worth every penny. The speed of process from time of initial contact to completion was about a week. Thanks to the crew who came out and made our home more comfortable. We got it just in time for a really cold, snowy and windy storm and all the rooms were so comfy. They are a professional, knowledgeable, and polite crew. read more

First off, no work done. Wanted electric to shed from house. Discussed work requested and the additional work to be added "if you want a permit." That was in the summer. Claimed busy with HVAC work, and said I would call. Called in October, didn't get on schedule until mid-December. Called to confirm a permit the day before, and couldn't be bothered, so work was postponed. Received a call in the new year and said they couldn't schedule for another 2 weeks. I asked for a revised written estimate as I'd had recent issues with another contractor. The verbal estimate without any details about the work done was significantly more than the original estimate. I was told by receptionist that she "could understand if I wanted to look for another contractor." I feel like making it unpleasant so that I go away was the game plan from the moment I insisted on a permit. Want work done professionally by the book? Look elsewhere. read more

I requested a quote to convert to refrigerated air and an appointment was set up. A couple hours before the appt I get a voicemail saying there was an emergency with another customer and asking if we could reschedule. Not a big deal. I call back and confirm the new appt for a couple days later. The day of the new appt, I rush home to make sure I'm there well before the scheduled time. New appt time rolls around and nobody ever shows up. I figured I'd get a call with an explanation and maybe an offer to reschedule again. I called them out to repair a loud screeching swamp cooler. I had difficulty explaining to the receptionist what was wrong. The service guy could find nothing wrong except that the unit was old & needed replacement (not true-only 6-years old). Naturally the screeching stated again right after he left. Dave came out but by then the motor bearings had seized. He sent serviceman out to replace it. Another company had replaced the motor on out rental next door ( identical unit). Cost was about double this time. Last week I called about a furnace flue leaking like a sieve in the rain. The receptionist had no idea what I was talking about but made an appointment for 8 am today. No show so I called. She had no idea what I was calling about because it was not on her schedule. Like most residents of this strange town, we cool our home during the summer with something we affectionately call a "swamp cooler". Dear foreigner, don't get any wild ideas. Ain't no Creature from the Black Lagoon livin' up on my roof. It's basically a big ol' metal box that uses this futuristic technology (via the 1850's) to capture evaporated water into waffle-ish pads and the air gets pumped into my house for decent... eh, make that piss-poor temperature control. The whole thing is a sham. It's ridiculous. The whole thing. To think of the time I've wasted trying to make that bastard work. Ahem. Like most residents, my swamp cooler is also directly connected to my furnace. Unlike most homeowners in the U.S., New Mexicans must make a decision to switch from cooling (swamp) to warming (furnace) all at once. It involves sliding a metal slab into the swamp beast, cleaning the box, draining the water line and correctly hooking up the heater. It isn't complicated but I'll be damned if I don't repeatedly fuck this up, somehow. I've been through enough trial and massive error to accept the fact that I need to pay a professional to do it right. This year, I Yelped for help. Dave from Harder arrived as scheduled and distinguished my manhood in about 45 minutes. Our furnace is in full effect and the Creature is hibernating happily on the roof. OMG‼ OMG‼‼ Dave SAVED us in a bind and came on a same day to fix our air conditioner...he fit us in and found the part, retrieved it, replaced it, and got it working again on a day when it was triple digit heat He was pleasant, professional, efficient and the cost was not horrible considering it was a same day emergency!! Then again...I would have given him my first born!! We had called Albuquerque Plumbing & Heating, which the unit was warranted under and they were complete assholes!! He explained all the options for replacing our 40 year old failing furnace and explained all the advantages and disadvantages of each of them and made a recommendation. Our thermostat magically broke down one weekend in the cold of winter (meaning no heat). After seeing the reviews on Yelp, I sent Harder an email Sunday night, but did not hear back electronically. So, I called the following Monday afternoon and was surprised to hear that they could fit me into their schedule the very next day at 8 am. The electrician arrived promptly at 8 and fixed our thermostat within a few minutes - holy crapoli - we had heat again!!! I also told him about another problem we were having with our electrical wiring in our pantry/laundry room. Since he was there, he went ahead and fixed this problem as well (even though it was not a priority like the heat). Finding good contractors or service people is a challenge, so I figured I would share this team of professional and reliable people that we originally engaged with to conduct our home inspection for Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC. We then had them come in and repair an AC unit and swap out the thermostats. Since then, we've had them come in and help with electrical work and plumbing including the installation of a water softener. Dave seemed competent and efficient at first, but he did something that was unforgivable. My furnace thermostat conked out, so I called his company. The receptionist who answered the phone tole me that the minimum charge was $95 for one hour of work. If the thermostat took less than an hour, then I could have some other things done to take up the rest of the time. I had a lot of outlets that need to be checked and some covers that were loose. Dave fixed the thermostat in less than half an hour, but when I started to tell him about the other things I needed done, he said he had to go to another job. He did look around, though, to see what else I needed done, and discovered that one of the outlets that my incompetent remodeling team had left uncovered was actually "hot." But he didn't take the time to fix it! When I had another electrician come by soon after that, he was appalled to hear that Dave left a "hot" outlet uncovered and unrepaired. He said it was a fire hazard that could cause my house to burn down! So not only did I feel cheated because Dave didn't give me my hour's worth of his time that I had paid for; I felt extremely upset that he would put me and my house at risk just so he could rush off to another job and make more money on the hour I had paid for. read more

I gave these guys a call when my normal heating and plumbing guys couldn't get to me for another 8 days. They had an appointment set up in the next 24 hours. They asked for a contact number, and they had to (and thankfully did) use it when the technician who was scheduled to come had an emergency to deal with. It was only a one hour delay but I was glad to be kept in the loop. When the technician arrived (right on the dot too), he took a look at my swamp cooler, told me what needed to be done, and admitted that he didn't have all the right equipment. He called a technician at another job who did have the parts, and that one came, did the job, and was very quick about it too. Part of the reason I'm so grateful for these guys is apparently the screens for my swamp cooler were positively ancient, even though I had gotten a new unit, and my regular handyman had just turned it on (and never told me about the age of the screens). When the tech took them off, they disintegrated. What I thought was a simple job, turned out to be much harder. Harder Electrical and Mechanical made this very simple and easy for me. Dave said he could do it. Took a look at my closet and said he could make it fit. I told him to pull the trigger, met him at my place, got scared that the closet was too small. They he had all sorts of vacation, excuses, and I finally straight up asked him if he could do it or not. Even told them they could create a hole in a close through the drywall to seal it if they patched it back up. Nope, literally too scared. There were other circumstances that day but don't say you can do it and then not do it. 3 stars is still better than a 50% but wasting a customers time and I had to go another week and got a company who could follow through. We'd called him last Spring for a new furnace estimate, liked him a lot and felt his prices were reasonable, but thought we'd try to hang on for another year before spending the $$$- of course this Nov. on the day of the 1st snow our 24 year old furnace went down! We called Dave and he came over within 30 minutes! He fussed with several things- cleaned pieces, replaced the thermostat, and got our freezing house warm again-He even stayed long enough to make sure his fixes held! Half the battle at dealing with the inevitable problems of home ownership is knowing who to call. Dave is the guy to call. We first had him install a furnace. I hired him after having four quotes because he did not try to pressure me to purchase the most expensive unit (unlike the other guys). Dave is happy to discuss the technical aspects if you want to know more about what you are buying. He is honest and straightforward about the relative merits of different systems. He is willing to answer your questions, and if he does not know, he tells you so. So, when our old water heater starting leaking the first day we had guests, we called Dave and he was able to install one the next day, during the Christmas season. But where Dave really shines is providing cheerful and willing follow up. We had a minor issue with the furnace a year later and Dave came quickly, diagnosed the problem and fixed it at no charge.
