I want to give a shout-out to two people in particular. One works in the Women's fashion and her name is Cheryl. She was extremely helpful and polite when I was in looking for clothes for my Niece's birthday. It did not appear to be her department - she was working on socks - but she was helpful and kind. She even showed me a few things that she thought a little 5 year old girl would like. She waited until I was satisfied nad did not immediately leave - something I have experience at other Meijer stores and especially at places like Walmart. The second person I wanted to shout-out to was named Tim and he was my check-out person. He was very fast and very friendly even though I was going crazy trying to get everything on the conveyer belt. He was polite and chatted nicely while I put my stuff on the belt. This is by far the best Meijer experience in the Kalamazoo Portage area.

Some of the meat shelves have fresh or dried blood pooled under the racks. I have no idea why the county health inspector has not cited them. Maybe it's unacceptable to issue a citation to a 'big-box' store, I don't know. Most of the employees are lethargic and unfriendly you have to 'push' them to get them to do thier job as they grumble under their breath. The few employees I have encountered that were 'decent' disappeared after a couple of weeks - apparantly quit. My guess is the management is at fault. It's been my experience that stores with rude lazy employees are treated badly by their managers and that trickles down to the customers. I think it's also partly because of this crime ridden Gull Rd location (I counted 22 cameras on the outside front of the building) and the clientele. They have removed all the 'price check' machines in an apparant attempt to cheat you on item prices at the checkout counter. I will only self-check as that way I can drag a lazy employee over if the price is wrong - which happens often. One of the few positives is the store is rarely crowded and self-check is quick. They need to replace the store and department managers and get rid of the rest of the dead wood. Hire some replacement employees that WANT to work and that would go a long way toward turning this store around. When possible I travel to the Shaver road or Plainwell stores. What a difference driving a few extra miles can make!
