Everything was very good! It's a sports bar and the food is actually very good. I came at lunch on a weekday and sat at the bar. Olivia was the bartender and she was a doll! Very sweet and very attentive. I got the triple play with calamari, mushrooms and cheesesticks. DO NOT GET THIS ALONE! there was so much food on this platter and it was only $13.99! Had a dang good, massive Mack Brown burger at Hardknocks. It was 1/2 lb patty topped with mac 'n cheese, BBQ sauce, with onion rings, pickles, tomato, & lettuce. It was a mighty satisfying foray into high calorie meat adventure. Generous portion of fries was ridin' shotgun to insure the beltline tank would be totally topped up on departure. Beer was cold & tasty. My belly was doin' that ol' Happy Dance by the time I'd waded through all that goodness. Dining partner had tuna ceviche and wolfed it down without complaint, so I'm assuming it was tasty as well. Interior was high ceilinged, spacious, industrial aesthetic, multi-screen sports bar glory on steroids. Staff exhibited plenty of hustle & took good care of us. I would gladly stop into Hardknocks again to let the staff stoke me up for road haulin' the long trip. read more

Excellent experience late afternoon today with a group of 10 folks. We all had the steak special which was excellent and service was excellent. Steaks were cooked to perfection and sides are top notch including the corn and peppers! Drinks were great as well. We will be back! read more

Awesome. I can't believe a sports bar this great is in my hometown of Portland, previously known for the mediocrity known as Chili's and Applebee's. This place is huge, and even though there wasn't a whole lot of people on the Friday karaoke night after New Year's, you Wouldn't have known it because the contingent that was there made it sound like they were dozens and dozens of people there. The karaoke boss (Justin I think his name was?) was excellent and even threw in some songs of his own in between acts and my rendition of Freddy Fender wasted days and wasted nights even earned me not one but two beers bought for me by a really cool couple who acknowledged it as a classic. mostly country and western karaoke songs which is cool but also some alternative and rock stuff thrown in every now and then For a little added kick. I couldn't count how many TVs that were on the wall - it must've been at least 20 or 30 and they had even shut down a Room that evening so I can't even imagine how many there were in that room. My bartender Leah was a sweetheart and had awesome sleeves to look at so you can't go wrong there. Best watering hole in Portland I've seen so far. Kicks pep's and a1's ass. don't know how the rest of the nights are here but Friday is pretty damn cool For this sleepy bedroom burb of corpus. I grew up here so believe me when I say that Portland sorely needed a place like this and has been a long time coming. they even have a good size video game room with a basketball hoops game! and if that's not enough on the weekends the kitchen is open until 11:30 PM... Friday night, figured we stop to watch sweet 16 basketball. Food is generally very good, service is sometimes questionable. Tonight our server was good. Problem...karaoke. So loud we're shouting at each other and our waitress. This is still a restaurant first. I had to put rolled up napkins in my ears it was so loud. The service is terrible. 10min+ wait just to be asked for a drink order. Then another 5min just to receive it. I am from Houston - I live in the city and the bars have 20x the customers and 20x quicker service, with the same amount of staff... this place needs to step their game up. Also, I ordered the fried chicken tenders entree for $11.95 and it only came with 3 tenders - an adult priced kids meal if you ask me. Reminiscing on my experience just made me remove a star. This the second time I've eaten here and can't say enough about the place. Wow what an experience! The food was great and priced well within expectations. Our waitress could not have been more attentive, polite and professional. Offering menu selections that proved to be just what we wanted. Even the head chef greeted us on the way out asking how we enjoyed everything. Don't see that anywhere else you eat in Portland! Three lady's went to the table and say hi to our friend that invited us there but no one took our drinks. They were just looking at us. So after 20 min of been there waiting we just got up and left. So sad that the business looses money thAnks to there kind of service. HKP! The Portland store has the best wait staff and group of managers. Everyone is always ready to lean in and help customers. Bar drinks are great! The girls know how to mix a great cocktail. The 3.5 star review is based primarily on the food. The wings are better than every spot in Portland. Spicy Lemon pepper never disappoints and the seasoned fries are a great compliment. They will substitute anything on the menu and if you have a special request they will do everything to accommodate. Some of the other dishes are just ok half the time. I'd say the consistency is what is holding them back from a higher rating. Definitely give them a shot and I'm sure I'll see you there too! read more

Husband got the Mahi tacos and it looked like little aquarium fish in the tacos....could have been more substantial Mahi in the Tacos. I got the chicken and bow tie pasta. The first bite of chicken was awesome and very tasty, but the next fire bites were nothing but rubber...so rubbery I thought it was raw, but no it was fully cooked.
