I hired JD and Green City Gardens to re-landscape the front of my house and the berm between our lot and neighbors and to plant three large evergreens to provide privacy at the end of the patio. A year later, two of the 7' evergreens are dead and 1/3 of the other plants are dead. Have reached out to JD via phone call/VM and text SEVEN times and he will not respond. We worked with JD from Green City Gardens to design and plant new landscaping in the front of our house. This included removing the existing shrubs, adding organic materials and planting the new flowers and bushes. In addition, JD, Doug, Carl and John removed two existing trees which had died and replaced them with new trees. The project was projected to be completed in about 2.5 days and the team achieved the target. The entire crew was excellent to work with--each provided their input and recommendations regarding plant placement. Communication was excellent throughout the entire process--from initial design through planting. JD's design was excellent and the new landscaping greatly enhanced the front of our house. Doug, John, JD and Carl worked diligently to remove the existing landscaping, planting and mulching the new plants. I really wanted to like Green City Gardens but what a disappointing experience. I met with JD to discuss a patio project, adjusting my calendar to free up time from work so we could meet and talk through ideas. We had a good conversation for about an hour to discuss design options, at the end of which JD said he'd have a proposal to me in a week or so. In the following days I was really looking forward to receiving the proposal and getting going with the work. But JD never sent the proposal, so I reached out. He let me know he needed until the following week, so I said fine. We all get busy, so a week is no big deal. But that week also came and went without a message from JD. So I reached out again to see if there was any additional info I could provide to help the process along. No response. A few days later I tried again. No response. I tried one more time. Nothing. Really frustrating to realize I wasted my time with him. I would have significant doubts about working with him given his poor communications and lack of responsiveness. JD, if you're going to come out and take up someone's time and get their hopes up, the least you can do is return phone calls or Yelp messages. Not only is it the professional thing to do, it's just common courtesy. I understand if you're busy and need more time. But I don't understand the complete lack of communication. No excuse for that. read more

From start to finish, the owner , JD, was a pleasure to deal with. He spent time with us explaining what flowers and shrubbery would look best in the area designated. With then help of his laptop computer, he scrolled through dozens of different choices for the plantings. After he spent about 1.5 hours with us, he got an idea of our budget, and indicated he would get back to us when he could put together a schematic and cost analysis. He got back to us in a few days. Arriving at 8:00 a.m., JD and his workers started working the soil and planting the selected plants and flowers. They worked until 2:00 p.m. They finished the job with laying down a beautiful layer of a dark colored mulch. They cleaned up thoroughly afterward. JD also gave us a guide to help us in our watering technique. I was very pleased with the entire process. From the first phone call to the end of their work, JD and his team were nothing other than complete professionals. The young men who worked with him were courteous and pleasant. I texted him some inspiration pictures I advance, when he got to my home we discussed the landscaping for a few minutes and it was as if he read my mind! He went back to his car and texted me a "rough" drawing of my project and it was spot on. A couple of days later he emailed me a CAD drawing of my project in color with all of the flowers and plants labeled! He was flexible and able to work with our budget. We contacted GCG after finding it online and reading the Yelp reviews. Ours was a complicated project. Ended up removing dead trees, relocating some existing plants and adding 60+ new trees, bushes, flowers and grasses to a property that feature lots of mature landscaping. JD is the best...after being contacted we had several long meetings listening to what we thought/needed, then a powerpoint plan of each of the items he was recommending and where he thought it should go. Then he was here with his team overseeing the installations (with a shovel and hose, not just supervising). He is a delight to deal with...amazingly knowledgable, detail oriented, and a very nice, fun, interesting guy (his team was also great).
