Our difficulty was going to be finding one slab that was 23" deep. We knew that was a tall ask. A friend of ours suggested we drive out to Johnstown and check out Almendinger Sawmill. We visited on a chilly Friday afternoon and we began by looking around their huge wood yard located in a large barn. We we impressed with the selection and the affordable prices. Everything seemed priced so fair, we almost could not believe it. Our initial plan was just to look. We wanted to get an idea of pricing, what it may cost for us to get what we wanted for our project. Then we met Clint. He is a young, gregarious man that seems to have a vast knowledge of wood and what they have in stock. He showed us many options even though the depth we were asking for was tough. Ultimately he took us to a finished slab of maple wood that was breath taking. I actually ooohhed when Clint revealed the piece. He laughed out loud because I believe he knew he had just made a sale. The price was beyond reasonable so we said we would take it. We have not regretted it since. In fact, we believe we made the best decision by stopping by and checking out Almendinger Sawmill. We are beyond thrilled with our slab of wood and we can not wait to begin our project. We feel so lucky to have met Clint. We are so glad he helped us out that day. I had this company out on May 10 to take down a willow tree. Job was to completely remove all of it…read moreincluding stump grinding! Well there was a huge pile of mulch left. When my husband was moving the mulch, he found the stump is still there. I have reached out to Chad and he is not responding! We were happy with the service otherwise, but we are stuck with the stump!! UPDATE: Chad called me this morning. I was told by Chad that I would always have a stump after the stump grinding. I don't quite know about this as I had 3 other willow trees removed that were in a linear row with this tree and the stumps were all ground out and I was left with holes in the yard that we had to fill. I guess we will have to deal with a stump sticking up out of our yard!

For a recent job I also obtained estimates from two other professional tree services and found Dane's pricing was competitive. The work Dane and his staff do is excellent. They have always shown up on time, appear to work meticulously and safely and always leave the area looking better than it had when they arrived. The 3-day job they completed for me today was complex and I saw Dane here a good part of each day. The heavy wood close to structures, landscaping and other trees was lowered to the ground using ropes in order to keep control of it and prevent damage. During their work I have had the most contact with James and Scott, who have both always been very polite, considerate of our property, displayed excellent work ethics and watched out for out pets. It is without hesitation I recommend this business.

He can tell you how many pieces in any set. Very honest guy- not a hustler like some I've dealt with. And he even help load my truck which I wasn't expecting. I'm writing this after a few weeks and have burned 4 fires in the house with his wood. Burned fantastic. No smoke. Just a beautiful burn and warm cozy heat. Nice and dry. (He ages and seasons very deliberately). I got mostly oak with some cherry pieces mixed in. He threw in some kindling when you get certain quantities. He's just a great guy wanting to make his business solid. I highly recommend him. He's my new firewood guy.

The site is normally hidden behind a security gate. When I arrived the gate happened to be open, but only because a delivery truck had just left. Luckily there happened to be someone there running a splitter, but if I had not been so lucky I would have been trapped behind the security gate after the automatic timer closed it. The employee that I did find was very friendly and helpful, but had no idea how much to charge me for the firewood until I told him the prices from their web site. Product quality was fairly good, but not consistent. Their web site explains the importance of using seasoned firewood, so I would expect to find separate piles of firewood in various stages of seasoning. In reality there is just one pile, so you may be getting wood that was just split the same day. Most of my load was dry enough to burn, but there was a small amount of wood that I will need to set aside until next winter. Although all of the wood was split, some was left in very large pieces that I had to split again to make my small wood stove happy.
