I like sitting on the patio when we have nice weather. The food is decent, but it is pricey. I liked the waiters we had they were friendly, but sometimes we had to wait when it got really busy. (So if you don't mind that) I didn't appreciate someone coming to our table, getting a chair and plopping it down really hard,letting us know it was time to leave. We didn't realize what time it was, and they could have handled that differently; and they didn't do that to anyone else's table. (We do tip decently) I give it 4 stars for what I just wrote. For a Dark and Stormy drink, their ginger beer is really strong at least for some of us. (It's $9.00 for a Mule drink) I wouldn't mind looking for another place, so we can pick and choose. ( We go with a couple of other people) At Helltown their drinks are a lot cheaper, but their picnic tables can be a little uncomfortable, and that was another reason why we came to this place. They usually have pop-up trucks, or you can bring your own food. read more

I had to give it one star to post the review, but the restaurant didn't even deserve that. What used to be a nice restaurant in the 90's for lunch or dinner has totally gone downhill. If you're looking for snarky, impatient staff and mediocre food, then this is your place. The "hostess" debated me about the number of people in my party, and the waitress was impatient and rude. The food was so good. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Strawberry Salad. It was so delicious and such a huge portion size! I switched out the Gorganzola for Feta because I am not a Blue Cheese girly and I also took off the onions. They put a good amount of a Chicken in there too and it has a great price point! I was paying a visit to some old friends in a familiar neck of the hardwoods, and I stumbled across this joint along Route 8. While I was utterly confused about the setup of the building at first, I was pleasantly surprised by the tasteful eatery that's perched behind the golf simulator. Hardwood Cafe's sandwiches kicked my non-existent doubts in the face. The Hot Chic sandwich was divine, smothering my tastebuds with some of the finest Cajun seasoning I've ever had. The coleslaw was locked in too. The water was excellent, very refreshing. The outdoor dining was a nice touch, and the server was on point with all of my party of four's needs. We were greeted with a 15-20 minute wait at the door but noticed empty bar seats so made our way there. So glad we did! A few friendly local regulars around ready to give some tips on drinks and their recommended food options. And awesome service at the bar! Three bartenders were all helping each other out. One was learning the ropes, but the other two were extremely helpful to her and customers. Very serviceable with smiles all the way around. Food was tasty, hot and quick. and drinks were loaded. The golf league they try to run is a joke. Basically set up for his friend to win the league. The online booking feature and the establishment has had issues with 4 out of the 9 weeks we played so far. 1 week it said we booked at 3am when we dont even have that option since we are not members and the place is closed. Today was they had me listed on the wrong bay, moved to the right bay abd needed a different code. By the time I could actually start playing it was 10 min into my allotted time. Asked if they would extend my time since it was an error on their part and was told I would need to move to the other bay, reluctantly I did but by the time everything happened someone rented that bay so I wasnt able to even use it. Be careful if you plan to join one of their leagues. read more

Extremely hit or miss with their takeout. I've ordered the asparagus salad with chicken while physically at the restaurant, and it is THE BEST salad. Ordered it online a few weeks ago and they forgot to add the asparagus. Figured it was a fluke, and ordered the hot honey pizza today as take out. The menu is extremely misleading online because no where on it mentions that the pizza comes with ricotta cheese and pepperoni, two controversial ingredients that I unfortunately don't like and would've ordered something else if it specified! Came here after a family photo shoot at succop conservancy. They were very busy at the time. Had a short wait. No biggie. The recliners were nice to sit in! The place is nice and big. Like a sports bar atmosphere. The outside is really nice too. Now the food on the other hand.... Where to begin. Someone in my party got cheeseburger soup. There was nothing in this soup that resembled a cheeseburger. Potatoes and carrots with watery broth. Nothing creamy or cheesy at all about it. Even the meat was strange and pink like corned beef or something. Absolutely gross . My side salad was some spinach, one tomato slice, one cucumber and a dried up ribbon of carrot. No crispy lettuce at all which is kind of "blah". The balsamic dressing was good though. I ordered fish tacos. What I got was not what I expected. They describe them as having crispy slaw. These had what seemed like cooked cabbage under one huge chunk of fish. The sauce wasn't good. Was pretty much sweet chili sauce mixed with mayo. Completely inedible. The waitress was super nice and took the soup and fish tacos off of the bill. I probably won't be back. I'm truly tired of spending nearly 100$ for a meal out when I could save my money and get something better at home. I would maybe drink here and get wings or French fries. We came with a group to the Hardwood Cafe on our way to going to a rodeo in Butler. The place is large with an open air covered deck attached. Our server was named Ashley and she was really friendly and attentive. She was positive about menu items and our choices. We started with the Hot Honey Goat Cheese, which I liked, but the rest of the group did not. We ordered a mix of sandwiches, burgers, and pizza. Everything came out really well cooked and tasted great. I had the Jonathan, which was grilled chicken, cheese, and onions on toasted bread. 12 years ago, I used to work there. Great people, great environment! I finally returned for my wife's birthday, and for a great meal! And we got it!! We ordered a full rack of ribs each, and had enough to leftovers! It was so tender, the bones slide right off the meat! I haven't been to Hardwood Cafe for years following a few experiences with bad food and worse service. I only came back because friends wanted to meet there for lunch. I'm glad I gave them another try. Hardwood Cafe has gone through a revamp and it's like a whole different place now! We started with an appetizer of calamari, which came out quickly and was perfectly fried, crispy and not at all tough. For my entree, I ordered a salad with grilled salmon. The portion was huge and it was all delicious! I loved the casual atmosphere in their recently added patio area. We sat outside to enjoy the nice summer weather. After this experience, I would definitely recommend Hardwood Cafe to friends. read more

I was skeptical to go to this restaurant, as the reviews seemed to be pretty split between awful and amazing. However, I came with family anyway. The ambience is strange. It felt like an inn. I'll give them a pass in terms of noise/lighting and such, because they were doing renovations when we came. The tablecloths were dated, as were a lot of the decorations. If they could modernize the decor, I fee it would go a long way in improving the feel of the restaurant. The server was nice, took our orders promptly, and we received our food in 20 minutes. One thing I should note during this time is the water was HORRIBLE. It tasted as if it had been salted! Everyone at my table agreed. I ordered the "Unmatched Cajun chicken pasta" since that seemed to be a fan favorite of other Yelpers. It was quite good! The chicken was a touch overdone, but overall pretty nice. The whole affair was swimming in grease too towards the end. But still, it was flavorful and the portion size was perfect. My mother ordered the whole grain shrimp salad, which was delicious also. The shrimp were well seasoned, and the dressing on the salad was nice. My brother ordered the double burger, which looked delicious, and he gave it a glowing review. Overall, it is a touch on the pricy side ($50 for 4 of us to eat, and one was a kid's meal), but it was a good meal. The ambience definitely needs work, but the food is very good. read more

We had fun at Hardwood tonight. The front half is a traditional restaurant, while the back is a large sports bar. The sports bar has a rather limited menu, but everything we tasted was delicious. I highly recommend you try the pretzels and beer cheese, although be warned, it's rather filling. They have a good selection of beers on tap, I ordered a Harpoon Belgian style beer that was rather enjoyable for just $5. The back opens up on a nice day so you ca sit outside, and they have games, such as corn hole. There are lots of screens to look at in every direction, this is a great place to watch baseball, football or hockey. read more

There are a lot of TVs and a large open room but it's still always feels very comfortable and you don't feel like other people are having their conversation through your conversation. Growing up nearby, I've been going to this place for years. My visits weren't on the regular, but they've been occasional random visits. From small two person lunches to reserved 'party room' for a special event. Humans are creatures of habit and I usually got the same thing, because it was so good. For me that dish was the unmatched spicy chicken pasta. I just love the creamy sauce and slightly spicy taste of the pasta with the chicken. There are about three chicken strips (not breaded) that are uncut in the pasta. I used to be disappointed they weren't already cut but I think it keeps the moisture inside. This was all before the 'OTR' was built behind the original building. The OTR is a nice high ceiling, wide open, inviting outdoor bar. I say outdoor bar because it was clearly built to take advantage of nice weather. Numerous glass garage doors open to an outdoor patio area. I've actually never had the chance to take advantage of establishment on a nice day, so that is still on my list. There are quite a few TVs and they're all mounted high for unobstructed views. The beer menu is usually displayed on a few TVs in Pittsburgh sports style alternating black and gold stripes. The OTR has pulled me from my comfort zone and I've ordered many more items than the pasta. I've been pleased with all of them. I've also had some of their desserts, while I don't know if they're all made in-house; they are tasty. read more

Can't say that I'm very impressed. There are a fair amount of beers on tap with some craft bottles in the cooler. The restaurant atmosphere has a nice feel and it's a great place for large gatherings. We got two pizzas and sat at the bar. Our fire roasted pizza came out and it was warm, not hot. We asked our bartender if she could heat it back up, she did promptly. The pizza was then how it should have been. What happened next disappointed me... there was no apology for the pizza mishap and no follow up to see if we wanted anything else. It's like we upset the bartender by politely asking to warm up our pizza. I'll give this place another go but when paying $16-$17 for a craft pizza it's imperative that it comes out HOT! read more

I have not been back in many many years. The whole new look to the place is nice. We entered in the rear entrance and it was nice and inviting. Service was good too. I ordered fish tacos with fries on the side. My husband fish and broccoli with rice. He ended up not eating his meal. My meal came and it looked like someone was eating off my plate all my fries were gone. There were only a few left. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said she would put in a reorder but that never came to our table we waited 45 minutes. While we waited I ordered a piece of cake for our celebration and it was pretty good. Sadly we did not have a good meal. All food is over cooked especially the chicken on salads which is extremely dry. Most bartenders have an attitude so we stopped going there.
