Visited Barrel Junction today, and it was a great experience from start to finish. We started with their seasoned wings and had the sweet chili sauce on the side--excellent flavor and cooked perfectly. We also tried the Buffalo Chicken Pizza, which actually had french fries on top. It gave it a unique twist! The pizza itself was nicely done--crispy on the bottom with a crunchy crust. The only thing we would change is just a little less buffalo sauce, but overall it was very tasty. Our waitress, Grace, was fabulous. She took care of every need and checked on us often without ever being intrusive. Her service really made the visit even better. This location is closing in March 2026 but have a other one a few miles away. They had wine in addition to the beers (nothing fancy), and some nice mixed drink specials. The food here is very good. Stopped in this past Saturday for dinner. I hadn't been here for a couple of months, and I noticed some things that make me wonder if they'll be around much longer. They used to have a chalkboard that listed drink specials. There were no drink specials listed. There was a separate chalkboard that listed food specials, and again, nothing listed. They have, I believe, 18 beer taps, but only 12 were in use. The beer refrigerator was practically empty. I could be wrong, but it didn't look good for them. read more

The place is smaller, but the service was excellent and the beer selections were so much better. The food was better, too. We ordered catfish bites to start and I ordered the chicken and waffles open faced sandwich (it's chicken and waffles with bacon, not a sandwich by any means). The chicken was breaded and cooked perfectly. The bacon was crispy and delicious. The waffle was a little boring, but I mean, it's a waffle. The fries were great and I actually loved dipping them in the extra syrup. I ordered a side salad to go with it and everything was fresh. To drink, I got a flight. They have several different types of beer and ciders to choose from. I liked everything I chose except for the Kona stout, but it's my fault bc I didn't realize it was coffee. Service was just plain awful. We had to wipe off our table when we got there. That should've been our first clue to leave. It took forever for someone to acknowledge us. We ordered an appetizer which came first. No silverware or plates were given, but she said she would come back. She didn't. We had to go to the bar to ask for those and refills. Our meals were dropped off and no one ever checked to see if we needed anything or if the food was good. We sat and waited at least 20 minutes once we were finished to get a box and check. We ordered takeout on a Saturday evening during the pandemic. The mobile friendly site to order from was easy to use and customize our order. Delivery was an option too, but we were out already so picking up wasn't an issue. There is a sign on the door that you can't enter without a mask, and there was a clean and dirty pen dispenser so even signing the check felt like it was carefully considered and that the safety of staff and customers was a top priority. Our food was ready right on time. I have a gluten sensitivity so I couldn't try the pizza but it smelled amazing on the ride home and everyone who had it really enjoyed it. There were limited options on the size of the pizzas and some of the specialty options but there was no disappointment for us considering we could get the pizza we originally wanted without any issue. I've noticed nearly every restaurant we've ordered from having a reduced menu lately so this wasn't surprising. I'm a bit of a salad snob, and I get a little nervous when I order from somewhere new but the grape, apple and walnut salad was perfect. I added chicken and I was happy to see that it was packaged separately which was great. I was able to warm it up a little when I arrived at home, and the lettuce didn't get funny on the ride home from being under hot chicken. The blackberry vinaigrette was SO good and unexpected for a pizza place. There were a few salads I was interested in getting which made my decision hard. I'm not used to that from a pizza place either. We've vowed to try new places each week when we order out but I have to admit it's going to be hard to not pick Barrel Junction again. read more

I went to Barrel Junction (Gibsonia) at about 4:45 Wednesday to meet friends for drinks/dinner. When I arrived, there were a TOTAL of 6 customers in the entire establishment. After waiting patiently (and watching a couple being served who came in a while after me) I went to the bar to order my drink. Both girls behind the bar said "we'll get to you". My order was a commonly chilled drink, but what I was served wasn't even remotely close. I went back to the bar and nicely asked for ice, (YES ICE!) when one of the girls screamed at me "you're being rude"... I walked back to the table, set my glass down and walked out. Either you guys are so focused on the few regulars (especially older men) for TIPS or 'to go' orders that no one else matters...really sad Ron. We were looking for some place different to eat out. Being from Kittanning, Pa a small town you find yourself going to the same ok places. Found this place on Yelp and decided to try it out. It was about a 40 min drive for us but was definitely worth it. Definitely more of a small town bar atmosphere. The kind of atmosphere I personally like myself. Our waiter Jake was very friendly and attentive. The food was Awesome. We started with the 2 giant pretzels weigh cheese & mustard, we only ate 1 and brought 1 home. I had a side of the smoked wings with dry rub, very good, and I still smell the smoke. Then we ordered the Chicago Deep Dish pizza... DELICIOUS.... The Route 8 location in Shaler is a fantastic stop for some wholesome food, great beer, and a relaxed atmosphere! Theu had a bourbon ale on tap that was just fantastic. We had a large party amd had a number of appetizers. The nachos with pulled pork could be a meal in themselves they were that good. We also had a big pretzel which was great. It came with beer cheese to dip along with another type if sauce that I didn't get a chance to try because it disappeared. My meal consisted of the Mac & Cheese skillet. My inner child won this battle and I will have to say that this was the most delicious macaroni and cheese I have had in years. Not only was the portion huge but it was truly home made with numerous types of cheese and baked with a delicious crust. A must have!!!! read more

Where is this place? Oh yeah, I see it... they need a lighted sign. It's right beside Lin's Garden to the left (they have a lighted sign). It's located in Richland Plaza accessible from 910 or route 8. Dropped in on a chilly Friday night. The entrance was energy inefficient with one door and no dual door setup to minimize cold air drafts. There was a plug in floor heater sitting in the entryway, which I witnessed two people trip over. The left wall of the joint is lined with bench seating. Parallel to that wall is an L shaped bar that turns as it approaches the entrance. The right side of the joint is equipped with high top tables. Which I'm not a fan of usually, but these seem to be larger than normal and solid structurally. A sign told us to seat ourselves so we cautiously ventured around the heater and found an empty table against the wall. We sat down and quickly realized the heater above was blowing so directly, it was drying out our eyes. We rearranged ourselves and stayed out of the line of fire. Our waitress was very nice, quick, and helpful. We ordered the Smoked Tomato Risotto Skillet and Steak Bacon Ranch pizza. Fried gulf shrimp topped the cast iron skillet filled dish with a couple crispy bread slices. It came with a pretty hefty salad as well. The waitress suggested the pizza and I quickly said I'll try it. Honestly, it was my first ranch pizza EVER. I've had pizza many times, and I've never attempted to seek out out ranch for it. Never collapsed into peer pressure of friends trying to get me to try it out. Just a simple non agenda pushing waitress suggestion. It was creamier than I'm used to but it was good! They have a few chalkboards with specials on them which adds a nice touch! The menu is very simple and not overwhelming at all. I decided to get the pulled chicken sandwich with fries that I upgraded to chili fries. Both were delicious! Everything was very fresh and homemade which I love. The only thing I would change is that they used dark and white meat chicken in the sandwich and I do not like dark meat chicken. That is just a personal preference though! I greatly enjoyed it all! My only dislike was the service. It was not busy there but our food took longer than it really should have.
