Good experience! I called 5 different places only to find the cost comparable with all of them. Needed to get from 110th and Park to JFK and the dispatcher was very nice to talk to and her friendly tone sealed the deal for me. Driver was 3 minutes a head of schedule at 5am and took care of our bags with a safe drive to the airport. Friendly conversation and no added fee to pay with credit card. My only thing keeping it from being 5 stars was the fact that the vehicle was not in the best condition on the inside. While it was not dirty I felt like I was in a movie in the 90's... read more

The dispatcher who answered the phone this evening was so disrespectful and distasteful... she lacked mannerism and was extremely devious. This young woman blatantly told me after she was rude to me "you'll be waiting for a cab" and proceeded to hang up on me. Almost three years and an estimated 350 rides later, and Harlem Car is still getting me where I need to go, when I need to go there, for a few bucks less than a yellow cab would. It's sometimes low brow with kinda torn up interiors, but 9 out of 10 times they arrive when they say they will, and I can live with the occasional clunker picking me up if it means that I'll occasionally get the white escalade driven by the guy who has a penchant for watching his son's cartoons on the multiple screens. Take your insurance holdings into account when you get into one of these lovely vehicles. This morning on the way to work, I was terrorized by a madman behind the wheel of a Harlem Car Service town car. This maniac tried to cut me off on a left turn at a busy intersection (23rd and 12th Ave.), and freaked out when I actually turned ahead of him. Apparently he thought I was taking too long to make a left turn against two lanes of traffic with about a dozen cars accelerating from a red light. As his passenger looked on in horror, he bobbed and weaved down 23rd St, attempting to run me off the busy rush hour street. At a red light, he started screaming at me, even though it was he who had just broken about 10 traffic laws. That's just great. Another maniac in a driving job in Manhattan! read more

I had the worst experience ever with this service. And please note: I have NEVER posted a bad review for anything before in my life. My mom owns a small business and I understand the difficulties small businesses face. But I do think that when someone makes a mistake, they should own up to it and try to negotiate a way to fix it. I was working a job in Woodbridge NJ, and while I was looking at car rentals I decided to see how much a cab would cost because Woodbridge didn't look too far away on the map and I thought that would make it a bit easier (I travel with lots of equipment so can't take public transportation.) I called Harlem Car Service and was told $45 plus tolls. Great! That would be about the same as renting a car. I was picked up right on time by my lovely driver. When we got to my location he called in and asked how much the fare would be. He was again told $45. Here's where the problem started: He said he usually gets $75 just to go to Newark, and we were past Newark. So he asked again and this time, the woman said $125. I nearly choked...remember, I was going to have to get BACK to Manhattan that night. I got onto the phone with the woman and explained what had happened and asked her to negotiate with me. She refused, and blamed me, saying that I KNEW the fare was not $45. This is after she TWICE said it WAS $45 (once on the phone to me and once on the radio to the driver.) My driver was a super sweet nice guy who understood what had happened and he eventually took the hit and lowered the fee to $90. I felt bad about that because it shouldn't have been him paying for his badly run company's mistake. And, the end of the story is I ended up coming back to Manhattan after midnight and having to pay the Woodbridge car company all sorts of surcharges...ended up spending $240 on cabs for a job on which I was making not much more than that. Anyway, it's back to car rental for me now, and I'm taking Harlem Car Service OUT of my phone. I hope the nice driver finds a job with a better company. read more

I had to take a cab to work for the last 3 wks because I was on crutches so I called HCS. I have mixed reviews. The very first car I got the driver told me he doesnt have receipts & that I need to call the company & they'd mail it. (Huh? Unheard of) So I did & the nice lady told me that's incorrect & that she'd have a driver drop off the receipt. After that every driver had a receipt. It was always 2 ladies who answered the phone when I called. One was a real sweetheart & the other was so-so. She had her days. A few times the driver would pass by my apt, some would turn around and come back. Twice they didn't & I caught a yellow cab who happened to pass by. Being on crutches that was inconvenient but it's NY & I don't expect much from cab drivers. About 2-3 times I feared for my life becUse these drivers drove like a bat out of hell. I wasn't in a rush but I guess they were. And more often than not they swore at many of the other drivers. I found it amusing though- how are you mad at other cab drivers when you drive crazy as well. All in all though these drivers were polite to me. And got me to my destination every morning. Thank God I can walk now but if I ever need a cab, I will use this company again. read more

Love the drivers who are courteous and on-time and good drivers. The dispatcher most of the time is rude and unhelpful. Today she refused to give me th rate over the phone for a ride from Harlem (I told her 125th and FDB) to a LaGuardia terminal and insisted I have street addresses for both. Considering she's supposedly located a couple blocks down on FDB she should be able to give a basic rate that's charged. It's not the first time I have had her gruffy attitude. She needs some feedback that there are other companies and taxis and ride share...and she's hurting her business, not the drivers. read more

We used HCS to take us to JFK for our honeymoon, and the service was impeccable. Showed up right on time, car was clean and comfortable, the driver helped load bags in the trunk (even in the rain), and drive was safe and smooth (not always guaranteed in NYC cabs). The rate was $57 from 127th St and 5th Ave to the airport, including tolls but not tip. A friend who was visiting just used them today to get back to the airport and he texted me to say the drive was "great!" Overall HCS has been a reliable, reasonably priced and comfortable option when we have called for cabs. I think my wife had an issue with them one time, but it was a while back. The only issue I've had has been that the dispatchers sometimes seem a little airheaded and might put you on hold for a while or ask the same question repeatedly, which is annoying but I'm not going to judge since I don't know what they are dealing with. I rarely ever take taxis. But last night at 3am was a time of need. I called Olympia first. They kept hanging up on me, then told me the cab was 7-8 mins away and after 15 mins I called back to ask how far was the cab and the dispatcher said he was sorry but there are no cabs in the area!! I was fuming. Already standing out in the rain with someone who wasn't feeling well in Harlem at that time is not safe. I decide to use Yelp to find a taxi service instead of google because the attempts of calls I made to their list either didn't pick up or wanted to charge $35-$40 for a ten min drive from Harlem to the Bronx with no traffic. Harlem car service was number 1 or 2 on the list but i used it immediately. The dispatcher was a little rough but helpful so I was appreciative of her help. She told me it would cost $14-15. And the can would be there within a min. He got there quick and I think he was attempting to hassle the price but I told him the dispatcher said 15 he said ok in a kind of defeated way and we got in. The trip was smooth and fast. I would def use this service again if need be the case. read more

I used Harlem Car service today - I scheduled for a 6:15am pick up - The driver called me at 5:00am -he was downstairs - I called the dispatcher- told her the incident and asked to have a car for 6:15 am She was nasty - had me on hold for 20 minutes- Finally confirmed - Car was on time - I got to the airport and asked him how much ? He wanted to charge me $39.00 - Regular cab $20.00 I called the dispatcher- she said it was39.00 - for no reason she started screaming and cursing I travel often and never had an issue with other car services - Pleas, do not use this service - I know I never will !! read more

This was the most professional, courteous and outgoing dispatcher I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with and I take taxis daily. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! they are BS & the liar! I went with them for goin to JFK ,then, the driver didn't know the way &got lost. he took 1hour &15min, with no traffic, usually it takes less than 30min from my place. he was still gettin lost IN THE AIRPORT. the company sent me a guy who doesnt know about JFK at all. now, i missed my flight, lost my $400 work for the next day, had to pay $!50 changing flight fee, had to pay cancellation fee for my hotel tonite like $200. they told me to bring the invoice n they would pay for it, but when i got to their office, they tried to twist it, saying like, " YOU TOLD THE DRIVER TO TAKE DIFFERENT WAY,,,,"!!!!& didnt pay me nothing. WTF!!!!! !!! The WORST!! Just moved to the area. Called them. I was on hold for 7 minutes before someone picked up, when the woman finally answered she was talking to someone else in the background. Asked where i needed to be picked up and out of no where i heard the automated holding voice again. ....so i wait..... The woman picks my line back up and then hangs up. So i figure i'd try again.... The phone was answered quickly this time, i said i was just on the line, someone hung up and was wondering if a car was coming. The same lady said no and hung up again! Never again. The drivers and their service may have been great as others say, i just never got that far to experience it. Too bad. Worst! Worst! Worst! Worst! Customer service EVER!!!! My husband and I live in Harlem therefore I we call this company everyday in the mornings and nights for 7 years however in the past months they are having the worst customer services. If is not one of the drivers are the dispatcher. And tonight they loose me and my husband forever... I called trying to talk with the dispatcher after she hang up on my husband 3 times without giving him the opportunity to talk. My husband is a very kind and educated gentlemen so I was amazed with how disrespectful the dispatcher was with him. But as soon as she heard that I said "I leave a blue plastic bag in the trunk of one of the company car that drove me from work to my home" She yelled " I already said I can't and will not help you, don't make me loose my time" and hang up on me as well. I would love that the company or the manager know that my husband alone spend $400.00 monthly ($7.00 am and $7.00pm 6 days a week) and I spend $1,000.00 monthly ($25.00am and $25.00pm) You guys loose us, forever!!! Ignore the dispatchers, because who really cares as long as your actual ride is pleasant and the wait is nonexistent. The dispatchers might be curt but just give them your address, where you wanna go, wait 30 seconds and you'll probably hear, "car number ___ in 2 minutes." Don't call ahead. This is more of a quick last minute ride somewhere. More of an on the spot request. They've never let me down, drivers are nice, cars are clean, and prices are reasonable. I use them every time I head downtown for a night out and if I need to rush across 125th to the Metro North. read more

Used their service on 12/30 to go to LaGuardia. I called the night before to reserve a car and the dispatcher was rude, laughing and carrying on a conversation as she answered the phone. Not too friendly either. On the flipside - my cab came 15 minutes early the next morning and the driver was very kind to wait until I was ready. Polite, helped me with my bags, took me to an ATM because I didn't realize they weren't like Yellow Cab (couldn't use debit/credit). Got me to the airport quickly and safely. Horrible horrible horrible. Am I even obligated to give them a star? I had to call for a cab early in the morning. I gave the girl on the phone my info, she asked if it was alright if the cab was there in 7-8 minutes. As soon as I said "ok" the call dropped. I thought it was an accident, called back a few minutes later, asked for my car again. The girl asked, totally sassy, if I had just called, and that my car was on its way. Bear in mind she hadn't even given me a price, a confirmation, OR said thank you before hanging up on me, yet she had apparently sent the car? How would I know that? I said ok and continued to wait. 25 minutes later and worried I'd miss my train, I called a THIRD time, to be asked "is this a joke?" I was thinking the same thing, actually. She told me that "we don't do that here. If your car isn't there, it's not my problem" and hung up on me. Yup. That happened. Needless to say I was shocked, I called right back and insisted I was quite serious, I was standing at the door of my building waiting for this non-existent car. She didn't respond and put me on hold. After another 5 minutes I got the hint and just hung up. I went outside with all my luggage and waited 10 minutes for a normal cab to come to my quiet neighborhood. So. It is noon on New Year's Eve (12/31/13) and my flight departs Westchester County airport at 1:50pm. We go down to my daughter's car, and damn, it is double parked (thank you alternate side of the street parking-we forgot!). Ran back up the five flights to my other daughter's apartment in Harlem, googled the phone number for Harlem Car Service, called them and explained our circumstance. They sent a car IMMEDIATELY, as in, the car was out in front of the apartment by the time we sprinted back down the five flights. Got to the airport in time, paid by credit card on the way, driver was a real pro (as was the dispatcher). These folks saved the day. Thank you! read more

Horrible customer service. On my way to the airport and the cab shows up to inform me no debit cards. They should absolutely let you know that the car will not have a credit card machine or take a card over the phone like most other cab companies in the neighborhood. From inside the cab I called in to inquire if I could pay over the phone. After I suggested telling people ahead of time, the dispatcher replied "I don't have to tell you nothin'". Very bad customer service. In the last few weeks, I've ordered twice and both times before I could finish telling dispatcher where I was going and where to pick me up she hung up on me. Tonight this happened twice before I called her a third time and asked her why she hung up on me before letting me know car was coming...she promised she said car would be there in 1 min. and apologized for hanging up. But she didnt' do that and this is the 2nd time in two weeks this particular dispatcher has hung up on me. Why does it feel like you have to fight to get simple to decent customer service in the city? After two fails am deleting this car service from my phone and would not recommend using. read more

Okay, so here's the deal. I have used them twice. The first time was fine. The second NOT AT ALL. We had a recent trip to Jamaica. We had an early flight so called the night before and scheduled a car to pick us up and take us to the airport. 10 minutes after the car was to be there I called. It turns out the car had been sent to the wrong address. So, the car was 15 minutes late. Then we were crossing the bridge and sitting in a long line for the toll booth. Finally, I asked why we weren't using EZ pass lane which was flying by. He said he left it in his house. So, we sat in that line for approx 15 minutes. Then we told him we were going to Air Jamaica. He went to the wrong terminal and dropped us off. As he was taking our bags out of the car. I said, "this isn't the right terminal." He said "yes, this is it." Meanwhile we asked and sure enough it was not the right terminal. So we got back in and he proceeded to take a couple of wrong turns before finally getting us to the right terminal. After all of this we ended up 5 minutes too late to check in for our flight. We had to pay $110 to get put on another flight and got into Jamaica at 3:00p instead of the 9:30a we were supposed to arrive. By the time we finally got to our resort it was late and we missed a day at the beach. I called the car service from the airport as soon as we were bumped from our flight. They appologized and said to call when I get back and they would make it right. Back home I called and spoke to the manager and related my story. He said he would look into it and make sure I got reimbursed for my extra expenses. Today, more than 1 month later, I called again because I never heard from them. He informed me that the driver said that we only waited 5 minutes in the toll line. Then he said that I told him specifically to go to the first wrong terminal (another lie). And, then he said that I was there in plenty of time for my flight (another lie, because when we were driving around the airport lost I specifically said to the driver "we are going to miss our flight." to which he responded; "don't worry you have plenty of time.) So, today I was told that based on the driver's story nothing would be done to compensate me for my time, money and trouble. read more
