I've been wearing Harlick boots since the late 90's and now my daughter also wears Harlick. My original pair is still going strong and still look as beautiful as ever. We stopped in recently and met with Jason. Him and his team took excellent care of us and we were able to get what we needed. We were also treated to a tour of the shop, which included seeing lots of the machinery they've been using for decades to make their beautiful handcrafted leather boots. We learned some history about the family that has been making shoes and now skates for 8 generations! The whole experience truly gave me even more of an appreciation for what they do and the quality of the boots they make. I know they might be a bit on the pricey side, but you can't beat the quality. I've had several pairs made and never had a problem until this guy took over for his dad. Didn't even use my old pattern. After mailing them back, I called after 3 months and he hadn't even touched them. Then he makes a point to tell me that it took a few minutes to add more stuffing to the heel. Turns out the problem was that they were too big. I had assumed they were correctly made since I've had several made using the same pattern previously. I live in Sonoma County and skate at Snoopy's Home Ice in Santa Rosa. I had been skating for one year in stock Riedell skates, and I started to need a more secure fit because I was progressing to spins and entry-level jumps . My left foot is size 8.5 and right foot is 9.5, so I needed a pair of custom boots. When I inquired about custom ice skates, one of the coaches quickly recommended Harlick. I made an appointment, and was greeted by Phil and Ginger Kuhn. He traced both feet, took all of my measurements, and we went down the list of all the options. Though Phil does not skate himself, he is knowledgeable enough to recommend MK Professional blades - which every coach + skater recommended for my level of figure skating. I paid a small fee for expedited service, and my boots were ready to be picked up in 6-7 weeks. Upon returning, I was assisted by one of the sons, Jason Kuhn. I put the boots on and they fit like a glove, with only tiny adjustments that needed to be made. Jason is a very experienced craftsman, and was thorough with his line of questioning. Why wait? My husband and I just made a trip from Dallas, TX to San Carlos, CA to pick up both of our skate boots- after patiently waiting for several months for the boots to be built. We have skated as a couple for the last 10 years, and we can tell anyone reading this review these boots are a great investment. Prior to switching to the Harlick boot, there were many "other" boots that we tried and found they were lasting us around a year before they were breaking down- we skate A LOT. The Harlick boot is where the breaking down issues stopped- Harlick's lasted approximately 4-5 years of constant repeated abuse. After speaking in depth with Jason at Harlick, we found they use only the highest quality textiles/components, utilizing tried and true methods- I guess that's what happens when you have 4 generations of family working together to hone their craftsmanship/skills. Please note that Jason was very personable and was not afraid to show us where the magic happens in his boot factory- We even got to see him build part of the boots that we were picking up! In his boot factory you will find that he is using machinery dating back to the early 1900s- NO automated/computerized machinery here! You will also find EVERY kind of pattern/style you can think of implemented into their custom boots- You must see it to believe it. Now for the best part- Our first night wearing the new custom luxury boots was absolutely sublime/outstanding/amazing- Absolutely NO pinching, blisters, or discomfort. How can this be in a new boot you might ask? Get Harlick Boots- I will never wear any other skate boot. If you find your feet hurting after an hour of cranking out jumps, spins, and footwork I can tell you something is wrong with your boots- Talk to Jason at Harlick he can mold your feet to ensure your boots fit PERFECTLY. I hope this review helps some of the newer skaters that feel like they just aren't capable or maybe slow to learn such a skill- sometimes it is the equipment you are using that is holding you back. Best skates ever! I've had Edea, Riedell, and Jacksons. All of them heat molded and punched out to match my feet. I thought figure skate foot pain and agony is part of the sport, but I was wrong. Harlick customized a pair of boot and it feel like my feet is in feet heaven (if there's one, it's inside a Harlick boot) I've spent thousands looking for the best, I wasted so much money trying other boots until I gave up and considered custom. It might not make me an Olympic skater, but my love for skating intensified because my feet are comfortable and skating feels so good. It feels so good to wear that I'd rather wear my Harlicks that are not broken in yet than the Jacksons I've been using for 9 months (yes, it's that comfortable). Just put your money to Harlick, don't waste your time and money elsewhere. Harlick boots is worth every penny. It is pricey, but I've spent more with other boots. It's a good investment if you plan to skate recreationally or seriously and prevent any foot injury. Thanks to Ginger and Jason (and his mom), I am going to enjoy my skating life even more. Here's the breakdown of wasted money in search for the perfect skates: Edea Ice Fly- $749 Gold Seal Revolution- $709 (which I can't use anymore because Edea uses 1/4" smaller blades) Jacksons Freestyle with Aspire XP- $329 Riedell 910 Flair- $389 John Wilson Pattern 99- $429 All of these spent within a year And then Harlick came along Harlick boots custom with the whole shabang and features: $1390 (so worth it). Considered the best company for ice skates, I love my custom fitted skates from Harlicks. My feet were so hard to fit, but Harlicks corrected for my arches and little heels and even made skates that corrected my pre-teen knock knees. They were so comfortable after I was in agony for years from other skates. If you need ice skates you can buy their stock skates, but if you want to treat your feet and want to really see an improvement in your skating go down to San Carlos for a custom fit. Bought skates here spent $1200. They were almost two sizes too small. Ended up with a SERIOUS foot injury from the small, narrow tight toe box. Hammer toe, blackened toe nail, a neuroma and metarsaligia in both feet. It was clearly from the toe box being too small. I spent hundreds in medical bills and recovery. I could not even drive my daughter to school for a month. I was devastated. Early on I returned 3 times to let them know I questioned the size and they INSISTED it was the correct size. They never once even mentioned they had a boot with a wider toe box. It was CLEAR I needed that wider boot to begin with. This place took me out of skating for months I am lucky I can even skate now and still have foot problems. I was a new skater and they treated me with total disregard and disrespect when I advocated for a refund. I know they are highly regarded which was why I trusted their opinion over my own. Avoid this place at all costs unless you have a coach who understands your foot and size cause the guy fitting here is clueless. read more

I cannot vouch for this place enough. I used to wear the Edea Ice Fly and would experience horrible pain on the sides of my feet as well as a lack of ankle support. My coach recommended I try ordering custom Harlick skates instead. I had my feet measured and found out that I had two different sized feet with very high arches. Once I received these skates, it was like a dream come true. I no longer suffer while skating. The price is absolutely worth it. read more
