The staff is super friendly and patient to help you get exactly what you want. Never try to over sell you , but understand what you want. We have been in here a few times looking at decks and the like and have always been happy with both the selection and especially the service. Our latest trip involved looking for a helmet for my son. They had a fair selection of helmets but in all honesty its pretty much what other places have. We had stopped at a few places and did not have alot of luck. What made the difference was the level of customer service we received. The person helping us spent alot of time making sure the helmet was a proper fit. Pads were adjusted and readjusted time and time again until it was perfect. Unlike alot of stores where its just a job, these guys are skaters and bring that passion to every aspect of this business. read more

This is a fantastic store that is being run by an excellent manager with outstanding customer service skills. Taylor not only advised and built two skateboards for my family, but also helped me enroll my son for classes. When I originally called, the timeslots I wanted were booked up. However when a cancellation occurred, he gave me a courtesy call (that I did not require) to see if I still wanted the spot. He is consistently cheerful and helpful. I came back again for some harder wheels for my derby skates - I was not disappointed! Fantastic customer service. Above and Beyond. Only disappointment was hearing that they'll not be carrying roller skate gear in the future. Sad and unfortunate especially seeing the resurgence of people getting involved in aggressive park skating and derby in the bay area. Had a great experience here with both Jason and Sebastian. My husband's longboard broke and I (skateboard novice) was on the hunt to replace it. My four year old and I came in on a Saturday and Jason patiently talked me through options. He offered to order a deck that would be similar to what my husband had originally, which was great - and turned out to be the most affordable choice. Really appreciated the transparency of options, especially for a newbie like myself. We came back the following Saturday and they put my husband's wheels and trucks on the new deck, and it was perfect! We walked out with a new board that my husband loved. We absolutely love this place. Owner is so warm and welcoming. It's a pure fun just entering the store and see kids at different ages learning how to skateboard. My son is almost 6 yo and has been taking private lessons for a few months. He loves skateboarding and the Adrenalin and I can tell he learned so much there!! He loves to practice between classes and it really shows with how confident he is on the board and all the things that he' s learned. I highly recommend this place. We drive 30-40 minutes to get there (with traffic) but it is worth it! read more

I came in today to learn about the boosted long board, and I was really impressed that Jason took the time to thoroughly explain how the board works, and what products (e.g. extended battery packs) that Boosted is planning on releasing. Oh jeez, I am buying a skateboard. I know nothing and my son thinks he knows which is even worse. Thankfully we came here and were well treated and the staff knew about our lack of "trucks and decks" knowledge. We were give the basics and they were able to help us out with a medium skilled deck and decent trucks (those are the things that the wheels attach too btw). And if course some instruction on the safety equipment. We were able to buy some and have a promise that it will be used until we get better, this was helped by the staff who chimed in with some great personal stories. I like to support my local businesses, but sometimes it feels like too big of a compromise to do so. With Skate Works, there's no compromise at all. I came in here today to buy some skateboard wheels. I had a specific type in mind, and, they are uncommon enough that I'd normally just default to looking on Amazon. I gave this shop a call and surprisingly they had many in stock, enough that I had many viable options to choose from. To my pleasant surprise, the shop keeper offered to install the new wheels for me for free - I didn't have to ask this first myself. Great! I browsed the shop while he was installing my wheels and I was surprised at the selection. There were good looking decks as low as $35, which for someone who has been shopping skateboards mostly online up until now, was as low as I'd ever seen anywhere. Noted. I also longboard and I was surprised to see some longboards that I own and some that I've wanted right there for sale at the shop. Longboarding has always been a niche type of product, so it was good to see this much selection locally. While looking around I also saw local initiatives of the shop to build skateparks and donate to local events. I'm getting too old to do anything too adventurous, but, these are the types of things I hope my toddlers can participate in as they grow up here. Awesome. In a really big surprise, I actually found out the shop held an event at my company. They brought in a famous skateboarder to our campus for a session. I'm pretty sure this was NOT a profitable thing to do because we really don't have that many people internally who skate. Cool gesture though. Another surprise - there is a halfpipe in the back of the shop and someone was giving lessons to a kid there who was just learning how to drop in. As a parent, I would love if my kid one day took lessons here while I sat next door at Peet's enjoying people watching downtown Los Altos. Final surprise, there was a young girl, maybe 10 years old, probably the shop keeper's daughter, manning the cash register. She took her job seriously and I couldn't help but notice her father (?) giving her a lot of independence while watching with parental concern from distance away. You could tell this is a good kid who is being raised right. Put it all together and here I am compelled to write this review on a Saturday afternoon. If every local business was like this I don't think I'd ever go to Amazon again. read more

After a few bad experiences with other skate shops (sketchy, seedy, smelling like weed), was hesitant about the whole deal with skateboarding. Had a lesson for my twin five year old with Kevin. Kevin was great and my twins really connected with him. I was surprised that Kevin really pushed them... I wasn't expecting them to be able to skateboard on the street or even be able to balance while in motion. I mean, they've never been on a board before (although they're both proficient bike and scooter riders). They both did it though and were skating around Los Altos with Kevin with the locals finding it all super cute. It was... I appreciated Kevin emphasizing street safety while outdoors. They wrapped up the lesson going up and down the mini ramp! My kids were sad when the lesson was over and kept on asking when the next lesson would be! Had a chance to chat with Jason in the shop... Customer service is NON-EXISTENT.... I walked in to Skate Works a couple of weeks ago for the first time. As I entered, I noticed that there was a family and then an additional solo customer inside of the store. This store is fairly small, so navigating it with 8 people scattered throughout it was a bit tough. I was not greeted by the older male behind the counter, nor by the female who looked directly at me as I walked through the door. The purpose of my visit was to see if they had a certain deck in stock. I was browsing the shoes to the right of the store and didn't see much variation - same old vans that they carry at every other place. I then took a peek at their clothing which was again, low in stock of variation and adult M or L sizes. After I browsed the clothing section, I was at the shop for at least 10 minutes at that point; still no acknowledgement or greeting from either employee. The older male behind the counter was still chatting it up with a customer about a board. After 15 minutes, the customer leaves from the counter and then proceeds to look at another item which leaves the older male employee completely free. I purposefully walked to the deck section within a foot of the older male employee to try and provoke him to greet or even acknowledge me - nothing happened - he ended up moving things from the counter that were directly in front of me and proceeded to ignore me. Even after that, I took another loop around the store to give them a chance to provide some sort of customer service. Of course, they continued to go about their business and ignore me, so at that point I decided even if they did have the deck I was looking for, I wasn't going to support a business that doesn't care for their customers. There was no excuse to not receive any help at all. I walked out of Skate Works empty handed and with their name crossed off my reliable skate shop list. I highly suggest you go to a different skate shop! NC Board shop in Los Gatos or Atlas in San Mateo are way better alternatives! read more

Brought my 7-year old son here for a skateboard. The staff was lukewarm and gave recommendation for a board, but was not available much as he was busy taking calls and sanding his board, which I can understand with local shops may be challenged in staffing in the current COVID situation. When I asked about skate lessons and pricing info, the staff told me to check the website, which I don't understand why the store wouldn't have info when I'm already there. I just had the best experience taking a beginner skateboard class with Tyler, and he made it a lot of fun while teaching the basics. I was initially a little nervous, but was also really excited to learn a new skill. Tyler's enthusiasm for teaching skating boarding, his reassurances that it would be a fun time, his knowledge and ability to break the fundamentals down into small and understandable steps that increased the chances for success, his ability to encourage confidence, and a sense of being safe while learning are all marks of an excellent instructor. Following the lesson he answered a number of questions about boards and had me stand on a few different ones to assess my comfort level. Jason, the owner, was helpful, very easy to talk with, enthusiastic, and at the same time with a low-key approach. I had a number of questions, all of which were answered. There was no pressure to buy a board or a push to sign up for another lesson, so it was an easy and comfortable conversation. Jason even remembered and referred to one of my stated goals that I had made a few days prior when I came into sign up for a lesson. That's the type of small detail that leaves a person feeling as if they were "heard," and just a great part of customer care. Despite being a senior citizen, I felt very welcomed and not at all out of place or awkward in a type of store that one normally associates with a much younger and very athletic clientele.
