I'm writing this review to shout out Froy in the bike department!!! He is the MVP! My derailleur was whack and he fixed it so quickly. It gets quite busy at the bike department (esp in the summer with kids wanting to get out with new bikes!). Froy also took the time to teach me the mechanics of the bike that I'll never forget since I want to try to maintain my bike myself. I highly recommend becoming a REI member if you aren't already one! Amazing perks such as discounts all the time and you get a return warranty up to 1 year instead of the 90 days. I also like their credit card which gives you 5% back! If you already know you're a regular customer for REI, why not! You'll also get higher cash back on full priced items too. Also just FYI they do not supply bags at check out! So bring your own bag to haul away your purchases!

But then I go to find out that it is not a store open to the public. *Unstoked*. But rather this is a Company Employee Store. Meaning a company or place of employment has to sign up with them (not really sure what that entails), then with a code/invite, the employees of said company can now enter the store and shop to one's content. I go to find out that my work gets involved in this annually, so I finally get a chance to scope it out. You have to bring the invite (a flyer for us with a code) and some proof of employment (a work badge for me). It is kind of a run-around but there is a benefit to all this. There are 3 glaring benefits from my perspective. 1. Being invite only and not open to the general public, the place is not crowded and cluttered. Very clean racks and displays. 2. Lots of legit inventory, so not a mish-mash of odd sizes and discontinued styles like factory stores. Felt like a kid in a candy store. Quite organized too, easy to find designated sections. 3. There are perceived deals/values here. Now I will point out that the brands sold here ie Columbia, Prana, Sorel etc are premium brand names and are usually not cheap. I actually find a full priced item to be borderline insane/expensive. Any Columbia gear I own are either gifts or things I got on some sort of sale/discount. Here at this store everything inside is 40% off (taken at the register). And even some items with certain highlighted tags, may be discounted even further to say 50-60%. A much better deal considering the quality. And after I went through their register to complete my sale, I was given another pass (good for 3 other guest too) to shop within the next 30 days. And there was a coupon attached where $20 can be taken off if spending reaches $100 (pretty darn easy to do). So another 20% off. They know how to market cuz ya know I want to come back for that. All things I restrained myself from getting on this last trip...will just wait til the next out. Bet!

It's well thought out, organized, fully stocked and not so big that you can get overwhelmed. Ok maybe I'm lying. I did get overhwhelmed but only because there were so many things that I wanted to buy! I didn't see one item of clothing that was not on a hanger or fallen off a rack. There was barely anyone there on a Saturday and it almost felt like we had the whole store to ourselves. All of the merchandise is current season and the prices could not be beat. 40% off everything is a shopper's dream come true. Add in the sale sections which were an additional discount and you couldn't ask for more. Others have mentioned being able to do catalog shopping while here, but we didn't have a need to do that since everything we wanted they had in stock. Sale sections are clearly marked and employees are easy to be found throughout the store to help you. I came out with a haul of items from Colombia, Prana, and Mountain Hardware. If you want another invite into the store, you can either spend $500 OR take the survey on the receipt which will give you an additional 10% off for your next visit. The 10% off doesn't expire so come back anytime. Will definitely do that.

My wife had been asking me for a Fri fit visor as we couldn't find her other one. I must say I was given exceptional customer service from Hali. When I asked her where something was, she pointed me in that direction, but when I showed her the item on the web, she looked it up and noticed it was in the back, then went and grabbed it for me. I eventually had to ask an employee directly to scan it again and bring the shoes out. Honestly, if the kiosk system does not work properly, I do not understand why it is there in the first place. It only made the experience more frustrating and time-consuming for customers. Please either improve the system or remove it altogether.

I observed the sole employee at the register as she prompted excessive conversation with individuals without regard for other customers waiting in line. This included reciting words to convince customers to join the REI membership for rewards... nope, not when you just added extra unnecessary wait time to my visit while I stood in the purchase line. Besides, the staff on the floor already tried to promote this to me, and I wasn't interested. Eventually another register opened, but at that point I was already leaving. In the end I got what I needed without any complications, and that's what matters most.

You cannot find them at the register, on the floor, or in the dressing room. Very poorly managed store. Today's experience reminded me that I just have to deal with the drive to the Berkeley store or find another that is properly staffed with helpful employees. Two stars because it's a reasonably well-stocked store, I never have trouble parking, and the location is convenient even if the customer service is not.

To make my long story short: I recently bought a new car, and because of its unique design, nothing available on the market was compatible with it. On top of that, I also bought a new electric bike, but there was no way to "marry" the two together. Even the official dealer couldn't help, despite the vehicle being advertised as "towing compatible." My dream was to ride my new bike with my toddler everywhere possible, but it felt like that dream died when I kept hearing, "There is no compatible hitch." I almost lost hope. but these guys, the true wizards of what they do, worked their magic. Over the weekend, Joe made it his personal mission because he simply couldn't accept that a towing-ready vehicle had no hitch solution. He literally lost sleep researching online to find a way to help us. Two days later, we had a hitch, a rack, and perfect weather to finally go for a beach ride outside the city.
