I just wanted to give a shoutout to John for his excellent service. I was in dire need of new shoes but was dragging my feet getting new ones because of my specific workout needs and chronic pain issues. John immediately jumped to my aid when I walked in, and helped answer all my questions thoughtfully and compassionately. He took all the time I needed to try out different options and guide me through the pros and cons. As a bonus, my girlfriend was with me at the time, and she was so impressed with the service that she asked John for assistance when I was done. He helped identify what options could help and got her set up with some custom insoles. We both left feeling very well taken care of and have been enjoying the difference we already notice in our day-to-day workout routines. Cannot give Roadrunner Sports SC a great rating, but it's also not terrible, either... There's not enough people at this location and they don't help customers. I've been in there many times where I just stand and wait and no one will help me. Definitely not my favorite location. Not only that, but now all of their calls go directly to a call center in Mexico. You cannot call the store direct to put something on hold. It's really frustrating and I did not think Roadrunner would implement this- but they have. The call center agents do not have the information on inventory. Years ago you could call the store directly to put items on hold or talk to a store associate. I understand the store gets very busy ....but no other retail location that I shop does this. read more

I am a huge fan of their custom insoles. For roughly $100 you can get insoles molded to your feet. I use them in my running and soccer shoes and they help keep my feet comfortable. This location has easy parking which is a plus. read more

We have had good experiences with Road Runner Sports. My husband and I originally bought a pair of running shoes each from their LA location, and we came here to pick up a few inserts, they've been working well so far. We have been to this location a couple of times by now and this review is long overdue. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they actually took the time to do an assessment and explain their recommendations instead of rushing us through. It felt helpful, not salesy, which I really appreciated. Overall, a solid spot if you're looking for running shoes or inserts and want some guidance from people. I wish I've come sooner!!! I've been recommended by many fellow running friends to get fitted for running shoes and I never understood why. I felt like if I just kept using the same new balance brand Ive bought in the past that seemed fine, it'd be sufficient. But I finally made time to come to Road Runners and found it super neat to confirm what type of feet I have. They have this machine that you stand/ walk on to see the detailed analytics of your foot positioning. I found out about my foot positioning when it's moving and that I prefer more cushion in my shoes. I love their recommendation of ASICS and have been buying the same gel nimbus style for years! They also have a membership for automatic discount percentages and to collect points over time that can be used as cash when purchasing shoes. read more

One was helping a customer, the other (Bret) was just standing there doing nothing. We made eye contact several times -- no greeting, no offer to help. I'm recovering from foot surgery, so I took my time trying on four different pairs of slides and even walked past Brett multiple times. Still, not a word. Then a woman walks in and he greets her instantly, offering help right away. Unbelievable. When I was finally ready to check out, Bret suddenly decided to help me. I love being greeted when I come in the door at the required check-in station. So many shoe stores make you wait for someone to help you. BUT...I don't want to be pressured to take their walking test, I don't want to try on other shoes that are similar to the ones I've asked for and I certainly don't want attitude. It's not the girl's fault. It's the way they're trained. I apologized to her, telling her I wasn't trying to be rude, but explained that I know what shoes I want. I didn't want to take their test and I didn't want to try on other shoes. She told me I was condescending. No, I simply want to buy the shoes I'm comfortable running in and leave. I've been running over forty years, I'm running another half marathon in twelve days and know what shoes I want. I'll be cancelling my VIP Membership this year. It's been a few years since we first started buying from Road Runner Sports. I love their return policy, I love that I can purchase shoes online and only need to come in when I need insoles. But I'm at the end of my rope with whatever is going on with their Brooks supply chain. As the years have gone on they went from having 5+ choices for colors, to the last couple years they consistently only ever have 1-2 colors in my size. Usually it's a choice of all black or one color that's rather garish looking. I double checked Amazon today and it had exactly the color that I wanted in exactly my size. So I don't know what up with their ability to source from Brooks, but this is the last year I'll have a membership with them. read more

When I came in I noticed people running on the treadmill, measuring their feet people waiting in a queue. I asked and it was a free foot analysis to get a better idea of my alignment, foot position/stance, size, width and give the best recommendations for shoes to support my goals. Whether that's running for distance, walking and prepping for a race. I went through the foot analysis, lightly jogged on the treadmill to get analyzed on how i run and the best shoes for my stride and goals. After trying a few pairs on, I decided on a pair of Saucony shoes. I wish there was more color choices but I'm happy with the color I decided. I also purchased the customer insoles that my rep customized for me. They heat up the insoles and make you stand on it so it confirms to your foot. They didn't work in my Saucony shoes because my heel kept slipping out, but I put them in my other running shoes and they worked perfectly. Of course i'm sure this is an upsell, so I'm sure you can just say no at anytime. We also signed up for the VIP family membership which allows us up to 90 days to return/exchange shoes if you don't like them. I also now get 10% cash back to be used in store anytime I make a purchase. I like how they have actual data on my foot stance/position. I'm sure you can do your own research on what shoe works best for you, but the foot analysis here is free. The recommendation for shoes is easy based on your data. It's now the only place my wife and I feel comfortable buying running/walking shoes from. 3 months into being a member and I haven't had a bad customer experience yet. So far our shoes have been holding up well. If you're looking to get back into running or walking, I would recommend anyone come here for shoes and running gear. read more

After going to two separate Road Runners in one weekend, I can honestly say I would not recommend coming to this location. This place is so inefficient and has some of the most unwelcoming workers. Besides the store manager, everyone refuses to acknowledge you and just darts around. With that said, we waited almost 30 minutes to be served in a long queue of customers. I don't understand why each worker's job is to only be dedicated to serving one party. At the Berkeley location everyone helped each other out and I could approach any worker if I needed help. Here at the San Carlos location, I was stuck with one representative and if it happens they were unable to be found on the floor I had to wait until they came back. Yes, this did happen to us and our rep disappeared for an undisclosed time. I won't mention any names, but I unfortunately had a poor experience with this rep. He was grumpy, uninterested, and always had a snarky remark. Not only was the wait long to be served, when we did get served it was just as good as if I went to the back of the store and grabbed the shoes myself. He was unhelpful, unwelcoming and I felt like he just was judging us for our shoe decisions while being as lazy as possible. The reason why I said this is also because when we asked if they had any other shoe colors, instead of telling us and getting them, he said that those shoes were meant for more serious runners who want to shave off time. Sir if I like a shoe, I can careless if they cost more or meant to be on the feet's of a Greek God. Please give me what I asked for without the additional attitude or commentary. Man, I really wanted to love this place but the rep I had, won't name names, left a poor taste in my mouth. He wasn't mean but it felt lazy and dismissive to me. I came to road runner campbell a few months back and absolutely loved it which is why I came to this store in San Carlos hoping to get the same service. They really helped me figure what kind of shoes would fit me since i'm going to be running a half and a full marathon in a couple of months. Today, I came in to return and replace two pairs of shoes, got new insoles and a pair of sunglasses. Unfortunately, they didn't have the stock to replace it- I asked for more recommendations but half the time he'd just bring out boxes and leave every chance he got. I wanted to ask more questions because i'm not well versed in shoe styles. When we were at the register, he handed me a box for my sunglasses not knowing that the one i just put back was the one I was going to take home. If I didnt open it, he wouldn't have said anything. Isn't it basic service to let me know that the box im getting is empty? Is that too much? Ehh, i would have understood it if the place was busy but i came here early barely anyone was there. Beware or the VIP service they encourage you to sign up for. I remember distinctly being encouraged to sign up for the VIP membership for immediate discounts, and told I can "cancel right away." I did exactly that. Bought the shoes and the membership, and cancelled on my way home. Well..... a year later 5x charge attempts for an annual "auto renew" were attempted on my account. After looking into it a bit, this is Not uncommon. A phone rep will cancel your perks, but they will not toggle off the auto renew feature. This likely provides attachment rate and commission benefits for sales reps etc. This is the type of backdoor shady $&!? that will prevent me from every stepping foot in this store again. This is called "negative-option" auto renew and it's something the FTC is trying to crack down on. This will be reported. read more

I regularly go to road runner sports but usually go to the Berkeley and concord location. Was a little disappointed with this location. Came to get my girlfriend some shoes and she had never been before so they did the 3D scan which consistently gave incorrectly results (said she was 7.5 but the hand measurement showed 8.5) and her foot was hitting the end on 9 so ended up getting 2 sizes too big. They did not do the running walking thing so didn't get any feedback on pronation and they did not even ask why she was wanting to get shoes (running, walking, gym, etc.). Came into Road Runner Sports San Carlos looking for race insoles, and Marissa was AMAZING! I told her I'd been having issues with my mid-arch, especially on my left foot since I'm a little flat-footed and she totally understood what I needed. She walked me through the fitting process using their foot molding podium, explained what she was doing every step of the way, and pointed out which areas would be impacted. Super thorough, super knowledgeable, and made the whole thing quick and painless. The insoles she fitted me with honestly feel like they changed my life. I could feel the difference right away. She also recommended some socks (which sounded great), but I ended up passing since I wanted something a little brighter. All in all 10/10 experience. Very disappointed in the customer service. 4 sales people (2 sitting down) yet not a single one greeted us when we walked in. I asked for help and Jose (my "fit expert", who was far from that) didn't even bother to walk over, he just turned around across the room and replied "everything we have is out". He rang me up, did not engage, or even bother to ask me if I had a VIP membership or if I wanted to sign up for one (I later found out you get a discount if you are a VIP member). As I grabbed my things off the counter he proceeded with "sorry we are out of bags" and walked away. To the owner of this establishment, you are wasting money on overhead who are not helpful or inviting, and I will not be coming back. read more

Five stars for Christian! We weren't going to actually buy shoes. We had planned to get properly fitted but likely buy shoes online or elsewhere because a family member works in a competing store. Christian was both low-key and super knowledgable, and took care of us patiently without being pushy. Piles of shoes later, we were all in with the custom insoles as well as two pairs of shoes. This 5 Star Review is in appreciation of the best Roadrunner Sports experience I ever had. On Wednesday July 23, 2025 I went to the San Carlos store to purchase another pair of Brooks Glycerin 22's. Giovanni started the process by getting all pertinent information. First he fitted me with the custom insoles which I requested but unfortunately Giovanni was required to take his mandatory break. I was passed off to manager Mike. He is a very seasoned shoe person. He checked the info that Giovanni gathered and asked a few more questions. And to this I added that I am 82 years old and walk 5 miles per day and had some issues maintaining balance in some trail situations. He had me go from the Glycerin 22's which were neutral to the Glycerin 22's GTS and went into great detail and explained how this "stability" model would help keep my balance. The next morning I went on my usual 5 walk and could not believe the difference, unbelievable! I'm afraid to wear any other pair of shoes I have. I just ordered a second pair. This wonderful experience was soured by the corporate office which I do not include in the 5 star rating. I would give them a 0. On Thursday I called the San Carlos phone number to give Mike and Giovanni a shout out. But was told that all calls are routed to the corporate office and that I could send them an email. Later in the day I tried a new tactic and called the number and told the corporate person that I had questions for Mike about the shoes I purchased. After some convincing they said they would have someone from the store contact me. Within a few minutes John the co-manager called me and I asked my questions and passed on my compliments to Mike and Giovanni. Add John to the shout out, knows his stuff! Why can't a customer make direct contact with the person who was so terrific and effective or to ask questions about the shoes just purchased. To Roadrunner corporate, rethink this approach because I'm going to rethink my VIP Premium membership! read more

I came here looking for a second opinion on a recent diagnosis of a heel spur. It was suggested that I get a specific shoe and insert. When greeted, you are asked to check in. You are not allowed to just walk up to the shoe wall and request a shoe. There's a process to it. They have you walk on a treadmill and stand on this machine that checks your feet if pronate or supinate and more. Once I got my results, I was shocked to learn it was so different from another evaluation I had done a month prior. It just amazes me how different a real person evaluation verses a machine evaluation results are so different. The salesman suggested some shoes for me to try. They tried to sell me on getting their own insoles that molded to your feet but I passed on it. I did learn from the salesman that once you have wide feet, your shoe options for colors become quite limited. They do have a lot of shoes to offer though. I will say the one good thing that I liked was buying into their VIP program. There's an extra fee but with it you have a 90 day return policy and that includes wearing them out. That I appreciate it because sometimes a shoe can feel different in store verses out and about. Don't get me wrong there are only bonuses to it but that return policy was a selling point. I'd go back again and would recommend just for the experience. read more

The new ones developed holes they refused to replace defective sneakers. My wife and I have been customers for years. Very disappointing. Last week I decided it was best to return my inserts that I purchased in December as they were hurting my feet and not helping. I was recommended to this place by a few co workers who on the other hand had a great experience and were truly helped to figure out what inserts would work best for them. My first visit I was immediately greeted by a gentleman but although he helped me he didn't follow the steps that my co workers had mentioned to me in figuring out which ones to purchase (I found this out after my first visit). When going back there to return my items there was a guy in the front helping another customer and I patiently was waiting for someone to at the very least acknowledge me or tell me "someone will be right with you". Although I did hear him call for someone to come help me with my return. After waiting 10-15 minutes I was frustrated and decided to walk up to 1 of the 2 guys that were there that was not helping anyone. I asked if there was anyone that could help me return something and Bret said actually there isn't and gave me the most attitude as if I was inconveniencing him. So I just walked away. Michael I believe was the other person there who on the other hand was polite and understanding and told me that he would be right with me as he was just bringing out some shoes to some other customers. I proceeded to go back to the front and wait for Michael. He walked back and asked Bret if he was going to help me since he was at the front and said "no he was going to finish what he was doing" which I am grateful for because I would rather not deal with ANYONE as rude as he is. I understand that they are short staffed and that is a management issue but the attitude and rudeness is what not only frustrated but was disappointing as this place was recommended to me by a few co-workers. After taking a look at other reviews it seems like this is a trend for this specific employee and maybe he needs more training on how to be polite to customers. We always go to this location and always had a bad experience. But today Aug 4th was probably the worst one yet and we will never be coming here again due to racial profiling and for rude remarks by TERRY. My husband and I came here because it was the closest to our house. Our purpose for our visit today was to exchange shoes since we are members of Road Runners. We waited in line and spoke with Terry. We told Terry we wanted to exchange the shoes and that it was within the 90 day period. He said okay GO LOOK FOR THE SHOES YOU WANT. We left the box at the counter and was mean mugged walking away. We went to the shoe wall and my husband picked the shoes he wanted to try out. After waiting 10 mins, Terry approaches my husband and tells him "YOU CANNOT JUST ASK FOR THE SIZE OF THE SHOE AND JUST SKIP OTHER PEOPLE" First off, Terry you should have asked us if we needed to sign in when we were talking to you at the counter. Instead of telling us to go look for the shoes we wanted. We were not trying to skip people as other road runner sports stores they let us just ask for the size of the shoes we want since we were not going to do the whole fitting process again. Terry had us wait another 15 mins for an employee. When Terry was just standing around watching people. After 15 mins he went towards us and asked about what sizes we wanted and the shoes we needed. While he was doing that he was slamming the back storage door and mouthing words. After just 10 mins of trying shoes, we kept asking him for different sizes and brands. He was helping another indian couple but smiling and being all friendly. Then when it came to us it was just frowns and being all pissy. I'm a very observant person...I started watching him since he made a comment to my husband about trying to skip other people. We saw how he treated the white people and how he treated indians but why us asians being treated a different way? When he went back to get another pair of shoes for my husband he asked "do you need to measure" we said "no" he walked away pissed. Anyways after my husband trying 4 pairs of shoes...He then said "THIS IS WHY WE MEASURE" I then turned towards him and said "well that was rude, whats up with the unnecessary comments" Terry packed up another pair of shoes literally next to me away from my face not giving eye contact and said "its not rude" I turned around looking at him "yes it is rude as me how its not rude, why are you giving unnecessary comments" he walked away and slammed the shoe box Me getting heated now, said as he was walking away "why are you being so rude and literally being so racist?" He continues to walk away from me and my husband. My husband decided to just get a pair so we could leave since at this point we were just so upset Other road runner stores we usually get so good customer service. I know this might sound crazy, but I'm almost in tears writing this review. I've been a Roadrunner customer for many years, with a VIP membership for several years. I've had 4 reconstructive foot surgeries and deal with a lot of pain so good shoes is EXTREMELY important, especially given I exercise most days and need a versatile pair of shoes for walking and running. I became a Roadrunner customer years ago living in LA and loved that every time I'd go in there would be someone kind and helpful who was willing to take the time to help me find the right pair of shoes for me and was patient in doing so, encouraging me to walk, run, do whatever I needed to make sure I was leaving with the pair that was right for me. I really needed a new pair of shoes so I was thrilled to see that they have Roadrunner locations in the Bay Area. I went into the San Carlos location and was initially excited by the size of the store. It took about 10 mins to get someone's attention to be added to the list and was told I'd need to wait 10 mins for someone to help me. Unusual given my years coming to Roadrunner but no problem. We ended up waiting 30 minutes. When someone finally did approach us, he ended up helping me and another person at the same time and really seemed to struggle to do so. I gave him a full run down of what I was looking for and why. My last 2 pairs of shoes from RoadRunner have been Hokas and I was an Asics girlie before that. He kept forgetting my size, what I was looking for, and then brought out 3 pairs of shoes but no Hokas. He said they had no Hokas in my size. I'm an 8.5 and I'd assume a women's 8.5 is a pretty common size to keep in store. They only had 1 working treadmill so it wasn't easy to get access to it to even properly test the shoes. Then the person I was working with left and he turned me over to someone else who was equally uninterested in helping. I ended up finally just grabbing the Asics and waiting another 5 mins in line to check out, again, since, no salesperson was paying attention. Upon check out they said they'd email me a receipt and I never got one. I also gave them the shoe box to recycle since I decided to wear the shoes out to keep testing them and they assured me I wouldn't need the box to return it as long as I had the receipt. Now I have no receipt, I wasted my nearly $50 in rewards on a shoe that makes me cry when I wear it for more than 6 minutes at a time. I've never been made to feel so not valued and now I feel stuck with these awful shoes. Seriously thinking of canceling my VIP membership or only sticking to my home location but I will never be back here again. read more

Great customer service from our sales rep, Zain! This was my first time visiting a Road Runner Sports. I've been building up some mileage on my current shoes and was in the market for a new pair of trainers. We immediately did a fit analysis test on my feet once I got to the store. Zain was very knowledgable on the activity itself and several different types of shoes. I tested out around 7 running shoes and ended up choosing a pair based off my personal assessment from Zain's recommendations, not suggestions from the Fit Test. Well I will never shop here. I walked in the door was greeted by three sales people. I said hello and walked past them. I went straight to the shoes that I had researched and knew I wanted to try on. I grabbed the two styles and walked up to a sales person and asked for the size I needed and they refused to get the size unless I did their walk test. She tried to tell that they need to make sure I'm picking the right shoe. " that shoe is a stability shoe" I told her I know that's why I picked it, I need a stability shoe. She still refused. So I walked out. I was going to buy them today but they lost my business and will never return. I will also let everyone i know about my experience to save them the hassle. I was having pain in various areas and we discovered that I have high arches and narrow feet. He suggested a shoe for narrow feet and getting custom insoles for my high arches. J ended up coming back a second time just to try a half size smaller and they had no issue and helped me with a smile even though they were super busy. Made sure I knew I was not forgotten when they were helping other guests. For the comfort and customized support for my feet, I think it's worth the price, and if you run through shoes quickly I think the VIP membership is worth it. They give you 90 days to try out the shoes and custom insoles, and you can exchange them like I did, only paid a difference of 2 dollars that was covered by my rewards from the origional purchase. read more

I am really disappointed by the service I received today. We walked in and no one greeted us or offered help. After waiting around for help, I was told that you can't try any shoes on without doing a tread assessment. I was visiting with someone who had not done an assessment before and did not want to so we were unable to purchase anything. We knew the shoes we wanted to buy and instead had to drive a couple minutes to REI to get much better service and purchase the same pair of shoes. I have done an assessment at the store before and found it to be a waste of time. I waited over an hour that day to do the assessment. The salesman used it as an opportunity to throw $100 custom insoles I did not want and never asked for into my shoes. I found it incredibly shady. He never even said how much they were or asked if I wanted them until we got to the register and I noticed the $100 charge. I ended up buying the shoes that I walked in knowing I wanted. I wish their company policy was more clear so other people don't wait around for help just to be told that we cannot try on shoes without the assessment and that we should go to another store. It's frustrating to be standing in front of the shoes we wanted to try on and instead having the worker list off other stores we should go to to try them on and then walk away. Unfortunately this store cares more about selling their unnecessary custom insoles than offering a good experience for customers. I highly recommend going to REI just down the street instead for the same shoe selection and better service. read more

Went to this store today to purchase a new pair of shoes. I know exactly what brand(s) I like, my size, what I need them for, etc. so I don't need any special assistance. Let me start off by saying this place will have you do this treadmill test and other tests in an attempt to diagnose your gait, if you pronate, etc...all this scientific computer stuff. They want to find the best shoe for you...I get it. I saw the guy standing at the podium that said SIGN IN, but I thought it was if you wanted all that extra fluff. I did not. I just wanted to try on some shoes, buy my favorite and leave. Road Runner makes sure it's NOT that simple. I started to browse the wall of sneakers and found a pair of Brooks and Asics I liked. I kept making eye contact with salespeople over and over, but no one was interested in helping me. Finally, I approached a salesman and asked for my sizes. He asked, "Did you sign in?" I said no but added I did not want to do any of the extra stuff. He said I didn't have to but still needed to sign in so a salesperson would be assigned to me. Fine. I went over to sign in only to be told the wait was 30 minutes!! I told the guy at the podium (who was giving off snobbish vibes) that I just needed the shoes not the tests. He then said that he could just get me the shoes I wanted and bring them for me...perfect. I told him the two pairs of shoes I wanted. He asked if I was buying two pairs. I said no it was going to be one or the other, but I wouldn't know until I tried on both. He said I wasn't allowed to try them on...he would only bring them out and bring them to the counter to purchase. When I asked how am I supposed to know which pair I like/fit better, he said I'd have to sign in and wait for a salesperson! As you can imagine I walked out and the store lost a $200.00 sale on a pair of shoes. I don't understand how a business that's in the business of selling shoes would not let me try on...shoes! Lucky for me there are running shoe stores everywhere and I won't be going back to Road Runner. read more

I recently had visited Road Runner Sports to get fitted for some proper running shoes. I was quite adamant about coming here due to the past reviews about the bad experiences that some people have had, but during my visit, everyone was very helpful. I believe the employee that helped me get fitted was named Mariel who was super helpful in helping me find shoes that worked for me by bringing out, and having me try on many pairs of shoes until I found one I was comfortable with running in. Ultimately, I had to buy direct from the shoe company themselves because they did not have my selections in complete black colorways. However, I really appreciated the time and effort that the staff put forth that day to ensure that my experience went smoothly, and that I found some shoes that worked out for me. I will most likely check back to this location in the future when I need another pair of running shoes to add to my collection. Thank you Mariel and Staff, you guys were great. read more

I'm brand new to running, and needed a pair of shoes that would be appropriate for a beginner as I train for my first ever 5K. I visited the store in the afternoon when it was quiet, so I was lucky to get the full customer service experience. I was helped by Zain, who was incredibly attentive and thoughtful. He took the time to ask me about my running journey, and we did a super quick trot on the treadmill, along with a 3D scan of my feet. The system made some suggestions, and Zain also recommended a pair with plenty of cushioning in a wide size, which was perfect for me. He even molded custom soles for me to try, but in the end, I preferred the original soles. Running has felt intimidating, but Zain made the process of getting what I need much easier. I also highly recommend the Saucony shoes I ended up with. They're like marshmallows! I'm honestly surprised at the number of critical reviews here.
