As my husband can tell you, it is quite obvious when it's time for a meal because I get HANGRY. He knew he needed to get lunch in me fast, so we stopped by Harmon's. We were drawn to it because we both love burgers, it's semi close to our house and they have outdoor seating so its perfect to go with the pup. After reeading all the reviews and as hungry as I was, I knew I needed a double cheeseburger. And I'm glad I did. The patties are tiny but flavorful and delicious. The buns are plain but super soft, which I love. And the cheese was super duper melty. YUM! However, I wish I could have had some lettuce, tomatoes and pickles on it. And I really, really wanted a super fizzy coke or a good root beer (I like IBC or Barqs). Regrettably, no. Pepsi products only... so it was Pepsi or Mug. Bleh. We also shared some fries which I was happy were fresh cut taters. But they weren't crispy at all. Nothing to write home about. Also, this place is cash only. I know that credit cards cost money to run for the business owners, but I'm sorry. It is pretty cheap to get one of those Square card readers. I don't typically carry cash, but luckily we had gone yard saling on Saturday and had some cash money. (Some of the yard sales were even taking cards!) I did enjoy eating outside, but I was a little concerned that the benches at the picnic table would not be able to support our weight. And there were a lot of nails sticking out in some places. I get it. This place is old-fashioned. And I dig that. The burgers were tasty and I'm not saying I'll never go back, but there are a few pretty easy fixes that would make this place amazing! There are many categories of burgers. You've got your steakhouse inch-thick chargrilled angus burgers, you've got your patty melts, your sliders, your fast-food mystery meat burgers, your gourmet brie and fois gras kobe burgers with chutney, and then you have what I like to call your "steamy little burgers." They're almost a thing of the past and an art form all their own. Simple perfection when done right. A thin preformed patty of delicious meat is fried on a griddle, onions caramelized alongside, cheese is melted atop the burger once it's flipped, the bun is pulled from a steamer and then the condiments are lovingly smeared onto the bun, served on a napkin. Here at Harmon's, they're serving these jewels just as they have been since 1964. In fact, it's like stepping back into 1964 when you enter. A small, unassuming roadside building, a freshly paved parking lot, a milk bottle collection adorning the walls and orders and tax tallied by hand by a smiling, friendly face. The menu is simple. Burgers: single or double, cheeseburgers: single or double, hot dogs, grilled cheese, hand-cut french fries, and just recently, onion rings. A soda fountain with reasonable sized drinks and real ice cubes you take from a cooler yourself with tongs, chocolate milk, water and juice. That's it. And that's all you need. The loaded cheeseburger comes with onions, relish (a sweet red relish that's the essence of all things Harmon's to me) and mustard and that's exactly what I'd recommend. They're soft, steamy little burgers and I'd wager you could work through one pretty easily even if you had no teeth. My wife usually gets a plain cheeseburger, I get two loaded and we split an order of perfectly cooked fries. White vinegar, salt and ketchup are on each table. It's the perfect meal, VERY reasonably priced and a calming experience that rivals the organic massage my wife gets just down the road at The WIllows Spa for relaxation in my book. Leave your cell phone in your car, order your food, engage in a conversation or read a copy of the Forecaster, and enjoy a steamy little burger. It'll be just like you stepped back in time. Anybody who doesn't give this landmark 5 stars obviously is a fan of those 4 inch tall "how in the hell am I going to eat that" burgers. Harmon's burgers are simple and to the point (kinda like us New England folk). What isn't simple, and I have pondering this for damn near 20 years now is what they do to make them taste so damned good. Saw someone upstream here saying they didn't care for the hand cut fries. It may have been the fact that we came here for lunch directly after the Allagash Brewery tour (also great), or maybe it was that the food is just so yummy and reminds you of meals as a kid. I'm not sure which it is, but either way the food was delivered exactly as promised, the burger was juicy and loaded, and the grilled cheese was cooked perfectly. The fries were nothing special or unusual, but also very tasty. For the price, the tastiness of the food and the location (on our way from the Allagash Brewery up to Millinocket, ME) this is the absolute perfect lunch spot. Tried this place for first time today. Pretty easy to find. A couple miles off the Maine pike at W. Falmouth exit. A great burger, but quite small. Next time I'll order two. Or maybe get a dog as an appetizer. The fries were top notch too. Hand cut and fresh like you get at a fair. Had a strawberry frappe as well and it was really good. Lunch was ten bucks. This is one of those places that if you live an hour away it is worth the drive! The burgers are simply awesome. You can reheat them the next day and they're still just as good. Their fries are pretty good too. Not super greasy, and not super salty. I personally don't like super salty fries. The people there are always friendly and seem to care about how you really feel. Hands down this is the best burger joint in Maine. My go to order is two cheeseburgers loaded with a fry. Loaded consists of fried onions, pepper relish and mustard. If I am extra hungry I'll add on a loaded cheese dog. I grew up in northern New England and there used to be many local eateries like Harmon's. They are now rare so if you want to show a new generation what lunch life was like pre-McDonalds go here. There are many reasons why they died out... mainly, if you want a good burger you're much better off heading to Five Guys or Elevation Burger. The burgers here are very similar to what you'd get at a McDonalds but with less variety: wafer thin burger patty, wonder bread bun, limited toppings (no lettuce, no tomato). The onion rings were excellent, however. Prices weren't that cheap for what you get. We didn't try any of their ice cream offerings. The place was packed at lunch and seating is limited. read more

I just love stopping by here for a quick lunch. I always get two single cheeseburgers, while eating I am transported back to my high school days where we had in the corner of our cafeteria an "alternative" food bar, instead if the usual cafeteria fare, we could buy hamburgers and hot dogs for 15 cents each....yeah I know...I'm 72 years young, things were cheaper back in the horse and buggy days. Harmon's is my trip down memory lane and I don't have to go back to California to re-live it. I give it a five star for nostalgia and the type of cheap eats, not for the silver and crystal and fine linen, you're not going to find that here..... instead rickety tables and chairs, serve yourself orders at the counter. I explained this is my first time I ever ordered from them. she looked at me like I was an alien. Never smiled, just scowled at me.
