I had a small dental procedure done in May by this Dentist in Oakland, first I had to pay $415 co-pay upfront, and the insurance should cover the rest, he assured me that won't be anymore out of pocket cost, and if the insurance covers more, he will refund the difference. Now the work is done, insurance paid the claim, and he wanted me to pay additional co-pay. Apparently he low-ball the co-pay to lure me into doing the procedure. Work has always been quick and respectful, without mollycoddling or any unnecessary pushing for an upsell. Parent of a 2 year old. Went to 2 dental offices prior to coming to Dr. Fung. We drive from San Jose to go to Dr. Fung because HE CAN GET THE WORK DONE! Daughter needed cavity fillings. Cried at two other offices, couldn't get anything done. One office suggested sedation but that is not safe. Daughter feels comfortable at Dr. Fung's office and already gone there for 3 appointments and had fillings done. Like other reviews, NO NONSENSE in this office. Very straight forward. Been going to see Dr fung for years and has always been very thorough with his cleaning. Appointments are usually pretty quick within a week or two and its never a long wait. I've had cavity fillings, root canals, and wisdom teethes taken out here and he always does a good job of making it as quick and as painless as possible. Dr. Harold Fung's office is located in the Oakland Chinatown. I've been going to him for the last three years or more for my dental needs. At the beginning few cavities were found, hehe... and Dr. Fung took care of them for me =) Now, I go there every six months for my cleaning =) Dr. Fung's office is decent size, with three dental chairs separated by a wall in between each. Him and assistant (wife, Helen) are very friendly, and the receptionists there always smile. Dr. Fung is professional and fluent in Cantonese. He always remind me to floss and brush my teeth, and gave me free toothbrush and floss on every visit, hehe... pretty cool =) read more

I have been coming to Dr. Fung's office for over a very long time and I never had a bad experience with Dr. Fung or any of his staff. I find his other reviews very untrue. I started coming here using Medi-Cal insurance. Dr. Fung treated me no different from his other patients. Now that I work and have regular insurance, I still go to Dr. Fung because I trust him and he does everything at the office. I would like to point out to those who use Medi-cal insurance and leaving bad reviews, its not the dentist's fault. If your insurance does not cover for the benefits, and you have no plans to pay for the services, please do not expect it is the dentist's responsibility to provide free treatments. I would like to show appreciation to Dr. Fung for still accepting Medi-cal insurance and helping the low income patients out because A LOT of dental offices do not take medi-cal, you can go research on why. If you guys want poor service then sure, come to Harold Fung Dental office located at #345 9th Street, Oakland Chinatown. First, I had to wait half an hour even though my appointment was right after they came back from the lunch hour. Then, the assistant come out with a file on her hand, but called out a wrong name when actually I was the only person in the waiting room. Finally I sat down inside, and the assistant put the plastic film into my mouth for the X Ray, and then went to adjust the machine for quite a while. I felt like I was about to vomit with the film inside my mouth for such a long time, so I took the plastic film out and asked if she could do it quickly. She said NO, and just WALKED AWAY! Dentist Harold Fung stepped in and said if I did not cooperate with them he would not provide me service and ASKED ME TO LEAVE THE OFFICE, otherwise he would CALL THE SECURITY AND POLICE to walk me out!!!! What in the world did I do wrong? I only politely requested the assistant to hurry up so that I don't vomit all over their place so that they have to clean it up!! Harold Fung is focus only on money, not service, not patients' needs. My visit was covered by Medi-Cal, and he thought I was wasting his time because he did not make any extra money from my visit! When I asked for the rude assistant's name, knowing that they have been so unreasonable and disrespectful, all the staff refused to give me a name. We came here for consulting some questions about general-check. At first, Dr. Fung explained everything for us, including what oral problems my mom has. However, the way he spoke to us was kind of making us feel that if we didn't have enough money, then just left! "Don't waste everyone's time" Quote. Dr. Fung has been our family dentist for as long as I can remember, probably about 15 years. Thankfully we haven't had any major dental problems that require serious work. We come here for the typical cleaning, removal of cavity and unneeded teeth, deep cleaning and other minor job. Other than this, we really don't have any complaints. Here's my observation about his practice: 1) Office is cleaned, modern and quiet 2) Receptionist is always polite and similey 3) Dental equipment(xray) has gone digital. All the dental images are now captured in his laptop. 4) He doesn't put you to sleep when doing more serious dental work which doesn't bother us one bit. Where do I start, my first visit with doctor Fong was about two years ago, I've always been the type to be very afraid of my dentist visits. Mainly because I'm very intolerable to pain, and I have a huge fear of needles and other sharp instruments. I've had a lot of trouble trying to find a patient dentist that has been able to work with me. I sometimes take longer than most to get myself mentally prepared before my procedure, it's not something that is easy for me since I'm just mostly scared of the pain. Doctor Fong has been that one dentist that I feel I can always be myself around, I'm not saying his work gives me no pain or fear at all, but as far as his patience goes, he is second to none. He has certainly earned my trust over the past two years, I don't plan to change to another dentist anytime soon and I hope he does not plan to retire anytime soon, because hunting around for a good dentist is tough these days. read more
