Road trip... traveling north on I5. Splash shield fell down and was scraping along the road, making a terrifying noise. Pulled off the road and while my husband was under the car a helpful CHP pulled up and let us know there were a couple garages in a little place called Williams... when we got to this one, a nice young man met us and said "bring the car to the back." He removed it and zip tied some plastic sheathing so it wouldn't fall down. Took him tops 10 minutes and he refused to take any money. Folks like this are such a blessing. Some places I've gone to for an oil change treat me like every other customer that they need to just get in and get out. During our road trip from San Francisco to Shasta, the check engine light began flashing on the freeway. I called Harpers and took my car straight there. They were able to diagnose the problem quickly and order parts. The parts took a while to get there as they we're not in stock locally. Harpers offered us a ride into town to get lunch while we waited. Did I mention we have 2 kids and 2 dogs with us?? They even let our dogs stay in their shop while we went to lunch. About noon on Sunday, August 5th, I was driving midway from Lassen National Park to Red Bluff when I failed to avoid a rock in the road, and destroyed my new right front tire as well as denting the rim. Just a mile earlier, I had just passed a nice pickup, with equipment, towing a teardrop trailer, and as I pulled to the shoulder, it followed me and stopped. The solicitous driver, David Harper, kindly offered to change the tire for me and I, being 69 and not in great shape, gratefully accepted. We unloaded the trunk full of astronomy equipment only to find that my aged spare was flat. However, we were near the Tehama CalFire facility, for whom David said he sometimes did work, so he took my tire to them, got it inflated, then came back to install it. It was only after that that I learned, by asking, that he owns David Harper Auto Repair in Williams, California, a town about 100 miles from where we met, on a Sunday when his business was closed, and he wasn't even supposed to be working. I tried to pay him with cash or credit, but he would not accept payment. On his days off, he explained, it's his practice to give back by helping others, and he certainly did so with me. Besides the arduous physical assistance, he likely saved me hours of delay. He offered cautionary advice concerning my ragged spare tire. He even made it a point to follow me into Red Bluff, to ensure that I made it safely. David Harper is a gentleman, and a man of faith, who has proudly served our country. If I ever have an automotive need within a hundred miles of his shop, I will certainly seek him out, and I urge others to do the same. The man is a prince. read more

Very very nice people. Car broke down and not only did they give me a fair price but offered to drive me to and from a hotel. Really appreciated them. The driver who took me was very caring and wanted to make sure I was ok. Said he wasn't quite a mechanic but that they took him on and were teaching him how to change oil and things like that hoping to be a full fledged mechanic. I broke down on I-5 heading toward the Bay Area in my 29' Class C RV and the tow truck towed me to Harper's. My transmission was blown. They got to work on it right away and had a rebuilt transmission put in within a few days. But the old RV had other problems and Dave and his excellent team of mechanics were committed to making sure my RV was completely fixed before I got back on the road. Everyone at Harper's is extremely professional, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. And they are FAIR! You don't have to worry about being gouged or taken advantage of. They're very communicative and are very good at explaining how your automobile works and what needs to be fixed - and why. Because of a laundry list of things that were wrong with my RV I ended up being stuck there for 2 weeks - and I couldn't have asked to be stuck in a better place. There are really good people still left on this earth. David Harper of Harper's Auto Repair in Williams, CA and his wife are truly a remarkable. They care more about you and your well being than making a buck. Thank you for your generous hospitality, time and attention. Our family was on a road trip from the San Jose to Portland, Oregon when our transmission gave out on us just north of Williams, CA on I-5 North. We were at Maxwell's Rest Area out in the middle of nowhere. We did a search and came across Harper's Auto Repair. I called and spoke to David who said to bring the car in and he would look at it. There had been a major multiple car accident in Arbuckle a few miles prior to our incident and all the tow trucks were busy with that accident. We had to wait a few hours for our insurance to send a tow truck from Yuba City on the side of the Valley on Hwy 99. We eventually made it to Harper's Auto Repair and it was around lunch time. There was no Uber, cabs or any mode of transportation at this point. David and his wife offered to take us into town for lunch. They brought us back and took a quick look at the vehicle and offered to have a look it and stating that in fact was the transmission. David offered to call an Uber contact that he knew and Kathleen was able to drive us to Yuba City where we had made reservations for a rental car. We asked David how much his trouble was and he said that he was glad he was able to help and did not charge me anything. We got to Yuba City and our reservations were not honored as they said they were out of cars, website was not updated - thanks Hertz! Kathleen stayed with us and did not abandon us as we were going through this ordeal. Kathleen was headed to Sacramento and we decided to go with her instead of staying in no-where land. We made car reservations on the way to Sacramento International Airport, got our car and decided as a family to not give up and proceeded with our trip to Oregon! Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. David Harper, Harper Auto Car and Kathleen. You truly make a difference! As a side note, it was truly impressive to hear that David and his wife helped organize the community volunteer response to the recent wildfires in the northern part of the state with food drives, clothing, etc. It was inspiring getting to know these true heroes and good honest people. These guys are amazing! My son was driving from the Bay Area to Chico when he began to have car problems. I found Harper's on Yelp and called to see if they could help. It was 5:00 and Brent said he would stay and check out the car. He checked out the car which was completely unsafe to drive, fixed it with a few bolts and sent my son on his way without even letting him compensate him for his time. It is hard to find such a caring, honest place and I can't say enough about them. My son could have been seriously hurt had Brent not cared enough to stay and do what he could. I would not let this company touch my car again if you paid me! I needed them to replace an engine in my Thunderbird and they messed it up so bad it is costing me more money every time i turn around! They charged me twice what the original quote was, they charged me for things I did not even ask them to do. They broke my electric door locks, the car leaked power steering fluid and almost ruined the power steering pump! The car still leaks oil constantly, and they broke my cruise control, it no longer works. They did not replace the existing EGR Valve with the one from my old engine, so the car will not pass smog because the check engine light is on, and they lied to me about the AC System not leaking too. I don't have the original receipt anymore because I moved or we would already have been in court getting my money back. Yeah, I had a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty too, but there is no way I would let them touch my car again, I want my money back!!! read more

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Dave at Harper's Auto Repair. While traveling up highway 5 yesterday, we stopped at a rest stop about 8 miles before Williams and discovered our battery was dead. We got the car started and headed north, got on the cell phone and contacted Harper's Auto Repair. Dave had our battery in stock and we drove in, they checked the charging system and installed the battery. Within 30 minutes we were back on the road headed toward our destination. Unfortunately I had to wait til after lunch and a few other cars but the guys offered to take me into town for lunch, made sure I had water and were as hospitable as well.
