Hubby and I stopped in for a glass. This is a cute place, and old world feel. We got a glass of the cab Franc and the Pinot. The cab was good, the more I drink the less I liked it. I had bragged about the place as we had been there yearly every previous year for the past five years. I was disappointed particularly with the slight to the people who she said owned the condo where we were staying. I actually knew of the owners. And she DID call herself the wine bi$%h, but was quite put out when one of our ladies repeated it back to her. It's not a big deal. I just won't be taking our group there anymore. I was the lady who was chastised by Kim for not being in Italy?!?! She said she could suggest one of their wines to match to one of my favorite flavors, then belittled me for not being in Italy. Ugh It was not my first visit, and it will be my last. After Kim's very rude comments, it really shut down our fun. This was early our first day and we all agreed, Kim must have been having a very bad day. She told us she had been there 20 years and so she was the expert "wine b%^#h" in the area. This qualified her to match our likes with their wines. The little 18 year old dog (per her description) was one of the draws. She did gossip about the drinking and fighting habits of the owner of our rental condo. It was totally inappropriate and really soured the experience. I'm really sorry to post this, however I was there, and Jan and Sharon's comments are 100% accurate. Hoping Kim gets the guidance she needs to improve her attitude of customer service. ** As I said, I was there with the other 4 ladies. There was a nice man behind the bar who ended up helping us when Kim went into the back and never came back out. Feel free to ask him. That is if he is free to be honest, without retributions. This is not mean, it is what actually happened and 100% the truth from my perspective. You can say it didn't happen, however you were not there. It's good to stand up for your employees, however you cannot just blindly defend them without listening to honest review. This was meant to help Kim get the help she obviously needs. This was one of my favorite wineries, have stopped here many times in the past and have always enjoyed their wines, setting, coziness and beauty with all the flowers and charm. We stopped by on our way East with a new guest whose never been and was very excited to share with one of our favorites with them. Unfortunately, we will never spend our time or another dime there. We were greeted quite rudely, told they only had glasses or bottles, no tastings, and the host, not a friendly gentleman, said he could help us find a wine we liked. Um, sorry, not purchasing a glass or bottle without trying. Ironically, others came in and for 15.00 there was all of the sudden was a tasting available, go figure. Then some woman came out to help, very condensending with our guest, us, and we'll never will come back nor recommend. We almost left right after walking in and not made to feel welcomed and wish we had. read more

This is our first visit here in a few years or longer. This is a hidden secret. Such a cute little winery. One thing, they do not have central air and or air condition in the winery I think. The last time it was very warm inside but the grounds outside are very nice. I had a wonderful Musette wine. We had purchased a bottle of this and two bottles of the Gwertztraminer. It was recommended by a nice young lady at Baci to come here. She said that is from the area and this is her place to visit when it comes to Gwertztraminer. She wasn't kidding, it was a very good wine. When I sampled the Musette, I smelled it and said American Oak? she smiles with a yes. What is incredible is that all of the wine that is available is all sourced from the estate property. She said the building next to the winery is where they make all of the wine. I plan on stopping back the next time we are in town. Good service and great wine. read more

Intent on trying a lake shore winery, we found this site was rated about as high as you can get. It's found on.a road littered with other wineries. We each had separate tastings, then the Artisan Cheese plate to enjoy at a leisurely pace. This was the best such food we've ever had at a winery: Artisanal cheeses, fruit , nuts, crackers (flavorful - not the common kind) and bread from fresh baked bread (again - not a common load - herbed and cheesed), along with a with herbed dipping oil. Excellent, enough for 2 and only $15. The server - Patty - was pleasant and helpful. Individual have such unique tastes - and even I've noticed some wines are better on different days than others - that I hesitate to comment on them. Let it suffice to say there were a few we very much liked/purchased and the Winery should have enough varieties to appeal to most tastes. read more

What a great place to spend a beautiful summer day. There is a large outdoor seating area surrounded by trees and vineyard, and lots of spaced out picnic tables. Some people also brought their own folding chairs, and that might be more comfortable than sitting at a table for hours. There was a talented live band (it was a Saturday night) that I didn't love, but some of my family members did! There were about 8 choices of wine, and you can order by the bottle. We split 4 bottles for our large group, and my favorite was the gewurztraminer, followed by the rosé. We also ordered several flatbreads and a cheese tray to split, all of which were good for vineyard food. They had run out of the hummus tray and one of the red wines when we were there, but there was still plenty of variety. I highly recommend this place for a nice relaxing outdoor activity! read more

One of our 7 stops on our Winery Hop, today. One of our favorites, but sadly very disappointed! Not for the wines (although they did not have my favorite Le Jacques Terrier); not for the food (we all had their chicken tortalini soup, served piping hit) but the entertainment. Because the inside of this winery is limited, trying put an "outdoor styled" performance just isn't good. The two person group was excellent but my gosh, the volume!! You couldn't speak across the table! And that's a shame for the performers. We were more focused on our conversation, then their songs. Better on the stage OUTSIDE to really showcase their talent and for the enjoyment of the customers. People WILL visit w/o the need for entertainment indoors. The wines and menu justify visits. There is a massive fireplace with two comfy couches and some chairs around it for visitors to enjoy. We visited the winery after having experienced an enjoyable time last year. This year we Invited friends to join us, and bragged about the beautiful fireplace, ambiance and puppy dogs. When we arrived, we were greeted by less than friendly lady behind the bar, who started gossiping about others in the community and their less than desirable drinking habits. The employee asked one of my guests what type of wine she liked and said she would be able to provide a match of her wines for our guest to try. When the guest mentioned a wine from Italy the employee chastised our guest with a comment, " Look, you are not in Italy, what do you want from us? Can't you see you are in Ohio?" The visit got worse as the "lady" began complaining about being the wine bi#ch for the winery. The only saving grace was the adorable old pup who snuggled with us on the love seat. We tried to make light of the attitude of the employee- a bad day perhaps? Hopefully the situation improved for her, and she was able to share her enthusiasm for her Ohio wines and light savory snacks. read more

We're sitting here right now enjoying the Musette! A jammy red blend which has an awesome label as well. We're here on a Saturday fall afternoon, petting the resident pups, and listening to blues. It's beautiful and a day filled with long shadows... On days like this, carry in your car some folding chairs, the wineries are packed- and you can just go create your own seating and relax. A lot of outdoor seating, and the inside was nice and quaint. Bottles were in the $20-25 range for the most part. My favorite thing about Harpersfield was the food. The smoked sausage/roasted peppers flatbread, walnut Gorgonzola flatbread were both ridiculously good, and big for the price. The chicken salad wrap was the best chicken salad I've ever tasted, and it was overflowing with ingredients. They have curry in the chicken salad which gave it loads of flavor. I can't stop thinking about it. They are dog friendly on all grassy areas. However, they do have a couple smaller dogs on premise, and one of them wasn't overly excited that my two dogs were there. read more

My wife and I came here late on a Friday night for some wine. Being from PA our rules with wineries are different where we don't have different prices for drinking wine on premise vs taking the bottle home. Initially prices here seemed higher than expected. However, after choosing the Gertzweiler and having a seat at a table to listen to some live music it started to make sense. We visited in March so we were inside for the music. The inside is beautifully rustic with a huge fireplace in the front with two couches next to it. The back of the room was a different design with tables and chairs. Musicians were up towards the front playing some classy songs prior to my time. We thoroughly enjoyed the cozy atmosphere as we drank our wine. Two dogs were free to roam around and would periodically come over to people for attention. Overall wine is good and atmosphere is great! Would like to see what this place looks like in the summer. read more

Really just a charming little place. The staff inside was friendly and helpful in guiding us through the wines they had. The inside tasting room was very well-done - lots of character and personality without being cheesy or over-designed, with an enviable vintage poster collection. There were a variety of seating options outside and lots of flowers for late September. We had ordered both chardonnays - I personally liked the oakey one, the stainless steel was just fine - and the rose, which was actually really good. We bought a bottle to go. We came here late on a Friday evening after arriving in Madison. A few of the wineries stay open past 9pm and this one was one of them! When we arrived we found the winery to be in what looked like an old farmhouse. We walked inside and were greeted by a small dog. To the left there was a large fireplace with some couches and chairs in front, occupied by guests. Another small pup was laying in front of the fire. Straight ahead was the bar. We headed there and ordered a bottle of wine and then found a seat at a small table along the wall. A small, real votive on top of a doily adorned the center of the table. There were two gentlemen who were singing and playing guitar, providing live music for the evening. Throughout the hour, people got up to dance and another man joined the entertainers at the end, to sing/play a song for his significant other. Hanging plants were in the windows with what looked like handmade curtains, big paintings lined the walls, and dark wooden beams graced the place, as if a wall had been knocked out to make it one big room. It was a very homey feel, one that drew me in especially after traveling! I enjoyed our time here. The wine was tasty, the company was enjoyable, the atmosphere was cozy, and the live music was entertaining. I would not hesitate to come back! read more

Least favorite of the three wineries we visited. The service was rude and passive aggressive, the bathroom was terribly dirty, and the wine was not to our taste. We had a pretty large group of 13 people and moved a a barrel table on their patio to sit. The waitstaff walked by and yelled at us saying "we aren't allowed to move furniture and that if the owner saw it they would be mad." We told her we would move it back when we were leaving but it didn't matter. We watched the same thing happen to two others parties just while we were sitting there. The tables are small and groups of any more than 4 will probably not be able to sit together unless tables are moved. Some of groups already had food when the waitstaff literally forced them to move. Of the wine we tried, one was especially not good, and the rest were mediocre at best, or at least, just not our taste. The ambiance is the best thing going for this place! Everyone was beautifully curated and there was plenty of outdoor seating. Unfortunately the live entertainment was so loud that it was impossible to hear people on the other side of the table without yelling. While we appreciate live music, the volume was certainly an issue. read more

Cute cozy place with a large fireplace inside and live acoustic music. There's a kitchen rolling out fresh looking pizzas. Very casual, comfortable atmosphere. There were a couple of small dogs trotting around but not at all obtrusive. We stopped at the counter as we walked in to order a glass of wine to try. Upon choosing, the lady behind the counter began pouring but appeared startled that her bottle ran out before it made a glassful. Her facial expression went from "uh-oh" to a smile as she shook out one more drop, smiled and said "there we go" and asked if we wanted to open a tab. Ah, ...no. Our glass was $8 and I wish I would have taken a picture of what she thought was good enough for a glass pour. I watched her then pour for other people and theirs was much more reasonable. Then there was the wine itself... only three reds to choose from. A cab franc, a Pinot, and then a blend of those. We selected the Pinot... it was quite light, not much depth to it at all. At $28/bottle for the single varietal bottles... I don't think I will have much. While the atmosphere was very pleasant and the food looked good, it's not terribly welcoming/hospitable or personal compared to some of the wineries and I wish the wine selection had been more interesting. read more

This is my home away from home. I've been going here long before I moved out to Seattle in 2003 and no matter what the weather we always head back for the great wine, food, and atmosphere. After growing up with "pink catawba" wine and things like the "wine smoothies" they sell in Geneva I was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful estate winery that puts so much thought into their wine and doesn't just try to get people drunk on cherry 7-up and white table wine. The grounds a beautiful in the summer and winter alike. In the summer you can enjoy their wonderful patio and covered seating while having Blue Lunch entertain you with some fabulous blues. In the winter you can sit in the tasting room by the wood fire in what feels like your own personal stone cottage. The flatbread pizzas are made from scratch and really delicious. If you're there in the winter and they have French onion soup it should not be missed. The atmosphere is really relaxed and not at all snooty without going so far as feeling like you're on Geneva on the Lake. One reviewer mentioned that it felt too sophisticated and mature for them but I couldn't disagree more. I show up with pink hair and tattoos and don't feel a bit out of place and I've been going since I was in my early 20's and the more "mature and sophisticated" people seem to be having just as great a time as me. Having a couple of terriers running around just adds to the cozy welcoming feel. I also appreciate that the bathrooms have always been clean and well stocked, a point not to be taken lightly if you've experience some Geneva wineries. I was just there last week and had the Cuvee sans Chene a light and refreshing unoaked chardonnay that was perfect for summer. The Gewurztraminer is a perennial family favorite. I made a brief mention of Blue Lunch who plays there, you really should schedule a visit around when they are playing and you won't be disappointed. read more

This was my second stop on the Geneva winery tour. When you pull in, it feels like you're cozying up to a little French chalet. When you enter, there is an enormous, functional fireplace that I will be sitting at in the fall/winter, should I return. The lady that helped us was nice and knowledgeable, but they were sold out of half the wines on the list. We settled on tasting 3 wines and eventually settled on the Pinot Gris. The outdoor seating area was fine, not anything to write home about. Would be lovely if it were more thought out about what folks look for in a winery experience. The two dogs that were our main greeters were sweet and well behaved. I would go here again as the wines were nice (particularly those aged in oak barrels.) One star off for outdoor area that lacked the charm of the indoor space. read more

One of my new favorites in the area. Fantastic atmosphere and great wines, a little more in price than the other places, but they are very good. I was let down that they stopped tasting flights at 5:00, and you had to buy by the glass. We went Saturday night around 8 with our group of 10. There was a band, and a large crowd, but we still found a table and comfy chairs. The setting is the big draw here, from driving in through the vineyards, to sitting in the garden under the romantic lights. Add this one to your list! read more

We had a very enjoyable Sunday Afternoon at this small, friendly winery near Madison. There is ample parking and the location is pretty easy to reach from I-90, or your choice of side roads. The atmosphere is very inviting and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They emphasize that they are a winery first (the winemaker has been there since 1979), and they use only their own grapes in the winemaking process. Our favorite was the Pinot Gris. Very crispy, with some fruit notes along the way. They have a very simple menu with quality food ingredients, but I would not go here expecting to have an entire meal. The focus is on the wine, and with the competition in the area having full restaurants, I'm giving 4 stars only for that reason. The dogs that others mentioned are very friendly and they did not bother us at all. They must be very happy animals with all the attention they get. We're planning to return in the Fall when the weather cools off to enjoy some red wine by the fire. read more

My wife and i love to travel and visit wineries when we do. Last year we visited a number of wineries in the Chautauqua area and loved every single one of them, in varying degrees. This year we decided to spends some time in the Geneva area of Ohio. One of the days we set aside to visit some of the local wineries. We rented a cabin in the Geneva-on-the-lake area, so we tried to visit wineries within a 30-40 minute drive. There actually were a lot to choose from. We picked Harpersfield winery as our first stop of the day. Turning into their drive it was quite pretty and our expectations rose. Then, we walked inside. The young lady, while somewhat pleasant, didn't seem to be very interested in interacting with us. I know the deal with Covid, and i know that the wineries are "not" allowing samples, but $7 plus for a glass of wine to taste something was not what we expected. We explained that we were both drawn to the sweeter wines, so she sold us each a glass of their 2 sweetest wines. To be honest, they were both pretty lousy. I suppose if your tastes ran toward the dryer whites, you might like their wines. But at $20-$25/ bottle we couldn't get out of that place fast enough. We began to get concerned that our day was doomed. Thankfully, our next stop at Ferrante winery improved our day tremendously. Honestly, IMO, with so many other great wineries in the area, i see no reason to visit Harpersfield. read more

We hit the GOTL area from Cincinnati about once a year. And each year we make our winery rounds. Harpersfield is beautiful and well maintained. What makes Harpersfield stand out is the landscape and the atmosphere; they have made this their own. Are you a dog lover? Then you must make this your place. The first time we visited, Toby was a young guy and made my lap his own. Today we visited and Toby, while still a sweet heart that loves the customers is getting quite older. Last winery before we were heading to dinner during a girls getaway weekend in Geneva. We came later in the evening- maybe around 6:30-7, and had just about an hour to hang out here before going to dinner. I thought the location was breathtaking- we were lucky enough to catch the sunset over the vineyard, which was quite beautiful. I also loved the flowers around the building and the inside of the winery was very cozy and was reminiscent of an Italian coffee shop. We were disappointed that they did not offer tastings at all in the evening- I understand that the line can get quite long for drinks (this is a quite popular spot on a Saturday night), but it's hard to choose a wine when you've never been here before. I told them my flavor preferences and listened to their recommendation. I went with the Muscat Ottonel. It was a little too dry for me and the bottle was quite expensive compared to the other wineries we had visited that day. We were lucky enough to find a table and enjoyed splitting the bottle and enjoying the outdoors. There were a TON of people there with chairs and blankets set up. I think this spot is ideal on a weekend night to kick back and enjoy live music. The band was just starting when we were leaving and they were really great. Overall, I would maybe return for the music, but I wasn't impressed with their overly expensive wine. read more
