I wrote a review eight years ago and wanted to update. The guy I was dating (now I'm happily single) is gone and this is a place I've ventured to many days on my own. I sit at the bar and enjoy a Wine Burger. Just... this is the BEST burger. They DO have wonderful food, and great specials- (of note the Pasta Sunday!) But then if I DON'T get the Wine Burger... I ask myself why didn't I just get the Wine Burger?! lol. To save my poor frazzled mind, that Burger- which is heaven on a plate -is a must. So now I order it and you can change the sides, add a salad- etc. But just get this scrumptious lil slice of Burger Heaven. The service is just fine, but it is slower-so you'll see me scrolling at the bar, yet the food is so worth it. The wine is sweet- as in sticky sweet so if you like the better wineries- Old Mill is those sweet comfort wines. I know what they have and when it's warmer I get a Grindstone Pink, but I like their Chardonnay. For this high palate wine drinker, it's mellow, soft and refreshing. Sure, it's not a high end fancy chard, but it's theirs and I love it. The atmosphere is rustic, cute, funky and casual. I love sitting outside too in the spring/summer. This is my spot. I'll bring friends visiting the area here (to get my Wine Burger- lol). What usually happens is that everyone orders something else and then my Wine Burger arrives. "Oh wow, that looks awesome." "I should've ordered that- maaaan that looks good!" "Hey you don't want to trade do you?" "Oooh! Can I try a little bite?!" No. Get your own. I warned you and I will fight you on this. lol! So go here and always get the wine burger and you'll leave with a tummy full of joy and a smile. This little place may not be a fancy, high end dining experience- but to me it's laid back, delicious- pure joy. It doesn't need fancy trappings or even expensive prices. It's home. This is a cute and casual winery in Geneva, near a couple of bed and breakfasts and air bnb options. The wine is OK, but we were still there twice in 2 days because it was walkable from our air bnb and the price point is very reasonable, so while we had nicer wine during our stay, we liked Old Mill well enough to hang out. It is a bit dark and throws dive wine bar vibes. I found it fun and laid back. They have a nice looking food menu - I only ordered the spinach and artichoke stuffed potato skins, because I love skins, but since I don't eat bacon, they're not always the best choice. The veggie option was delicious, and they came out hot and cheesy. I found the wine very sweet (and I'm a sweeter wine gal). Also note - they close pretty early! I think we went in around 7 on a Friday and the kitchen had already closed, and we were the last people served drinks at the bar. I could be a little off on my times, but it was not late for "big city people," and was consistent with the area. read more

Came here for some sweet treats since Scribbler's is closed on Sundays. I ordered a turtle cheesecake, coffee, and a sampler flight of sweet wines. The cheesecake was absolutely to die for, the coffee was good, and the wines were hit and miss. The Geneva summer Berry was a huge hit for me though so I got a bottle to take home. The person I was with ordered the brownie sundae and that was so moist and delicious. They know how to do deserts here for sure. I will be back to try the food... the place was a little dated and looked in need of a good scrub, but overall not a bad place to spend a couple hours with a friend. The service was very friendly, and pretty timely as well. read more

What an interesting first experience! We were introduced to the Old Mill Winery by a family member and decided to check it out for lunch on a Saturday. There are three parts of this review to consider. First of all is the atmosphere. It's a blend of casual-comfy that isn't trying to be too fussy. Indoors has several seating areas; all were busy even on a rainy day. Outdoors, they have two seating areas. A kind of a courtyard patio just off the parking lot and another a deck which has half of the seating area covered by a roof. This turned out to be spectacular because it rained most of our visit. Consistent with the "casual-comfy vibe," the outdoor deck seating was really enjoyable and casual, reinforced by the plastic tables and chairs. The deck has a substantial cooking station at one end, which is kind of fun to watch them grill and prepare things in addition to their interior kitchen. The deck is on the road side of the restaurant which made for regular vehicle noise. if you want a really quiet wine bar atmosphere, the traffic was a little bit of a distraction, but for us with a impromptu Saturday lunch with family, the afternoon was lovely. Coming to service, we were greeted by a friendly face and were quickly seated; we had the privilege of being taken care of by Madison, a remarkable young woman who was extremely attentive, a good conversationalist, and, upon getting to know her little bit, has thought deeply and with great insight about her career pathway. She was attentive without hovering and had an uncanny sixth sense about when to appear for drinks or next courses or the check. Now the crown jewel: the food! The menu was wide ranging and substantial. Unusually robust for a local winery. We were taken by the "Buffalo burger with blue cheese" special and three of our four guests ordered it. The fourth ordered the tropical salad with grape vinaigrette. When the hamburgers arrived, we were blown away. The presentation was attractive, the brioche style bun was delicious, and the preparation of the hamburger and its accoutrements made for an outstanding hamburger. Two of us ordered zucchini fries with a third ordering french fries. The zucchini fries could've used more time in the deep fryer as they were a little mushy; the french fries were spectacular. The tropical salad was ordered as a half salad and even that serving size was substantial. The side loaf of bread and grape vinaigrette dressing were tremendous. Ironically, none of us had any wine on this particular visit, but we are all interested in going back to sample other menu items in the future. If you're looking for a reliable, casual, and charming place for a drink or a meal, the Old Mill Winery was a good choice for us. read more

Went here last night with a few friends. It was surprisingly busy for a Sunday evening. We were able to get a drink at the bar and then wait outside until it was time for our table. Inside is old dive bar vibe. Once we were seated it took quite some time for our order to be taken and then food to come. Maybe they were understaffed? My friend ordered the Old Mill Dip. We had to send it back because it was cold. When it came back out again it was hot and very good. I ordered the old mill burger with a side salad. No complaints. I really felt like we were at the restaurant forever with how long everything took including getting our bill at the end. We arrived for a week long stay nearby and realized we were in "wine country". So, we found a place that had wine tasting and food. The menu here seemed extensive for a winery so we stopped in. It's more of a restaurant than what we thought of as a winery. So much so that we were seated at a table with menus! Let's start with the wine. We had basically all the reds and then a dry flight. The reds were VERY sweet. I think that's just some of the wine in this region. If you like sweet wine, it wasn't bad. However, the cabernet sauvignon was not good. Not sure what they did to it but it didn't taste like a cab. Some of the dry wines were not that great either. Perhaps our tastes are too west coast but we didn't buy a bottle after the tasting, which is unusual for us. It was Sunday so they had spaghetti on sale. Tried that with chicken. The sauce was good and the breaded chicken was good. Started with baked potatoes with the old mill dip inside. Those were pretty good. Also had a pesto pizza. All the food was worth going in for. This is just getting a low rating for the wine, really. Our server was very nice and helpful and the dining room was full of antiques. It was cozy inside. read more

We love Old Mill! Went in tonight for dinner and was very happy. Service was quick and super friendly. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and added BBQ and upgraded to zucchini fries. YUM! My fiancé had the wine burger and it was finished before I could take a photo for this review! Safe to say it was amazing. The ambiance is calm, happy and quiet. 10/10 recommend! read more

The Old Mill is still charming as ever. I went and had dinner with friends on a Tuesday night. We were seated immediately. But...the service was slow as molasses. Granted, they were short staffed and our wonderful waitress was busting her butt to keep up. It took about an hour from the time we sat down until our food arrived. So, don't go here if you're looking for a quick in and out bite. I had to knock off a star for that. The food was great, cooked to our liking and reasonably priced. The outdoor grill smelled amazing the entire time! We didn't have any wine, just beer, lol! (I've had the wines before and they're nice. They have a lot of sweet Ohio varietals.) And they have a craft brewed root beer which was tasty! Again, I recommend this winery if you've got time to kill and you're not too hangry! read more

I haven't written a review for a restaurant in quite a while, but I was inspired while staring at the mess in front of me tonight at the Old Mill. For starters, my family and I shared the Old Mill Dip as an appetizer. Imagine mixing Hormel Chili with Tostito brand Salsa Con Queso and serving it in a bread bowl w/ chips. That's Old Mill Dip. However, my family seemed to enjoy it anyway, so to each his own on that one. Now on to the main entree - something that should be avoided at all costs - the Old Mill brisket sandwich - a tough-as-nails hoagie roll topped with maybe 6 oz of overcooked, thinly cut slices of *brisket* (imagine the consistency of crispy, leathery gyro meat), a few sautéed onions and melted cheese, which by the way, the addition of cheese to a brisket sandwich should have been a major red flag for me (kinda like adding ketchup to a steak to hide the flavor and/or appearance of a steak). The sandwich comes with chips, but you can upgrade to fries for another $4 I think? I did that and also regretted it. There was something very weird about the fries. They're the big, thick corkscrew-type fries, but they were way undercooked in the fryer. At the same time, they had burnt tips. Very strange. Almost like they were pulled out of the fryer too soon and then placed in the salamander (broiler) where they were burned on the outside. Anyhoo, it all cost roughly $17 ($12.99 for the sandwich + $3.99 for the fries). The waitress was at least kind enough to deduct the cost of the fries from our bill, but I don't see how she couldn't have in good conscience. Anyhoo, never again. Lesson learned. read more

Very accommodating and friendly service, especially for our large group. Dining room inside is comfortable and spacious with antique type decor. Basic menu with something for everyone which was helpful as we had vegetarians, vegan, and GF diners with us. It's a big menu with a lot of great options. Food was solid overall, we especially appreciated the GF pizza crust option. Ohio wine is always on the sweeter side and their wine was typically sweet, at least from what we sampled. They make a wine slushie that sounded great- I didn't try it but the folks in our group raved about it! They also had a gorgeous outdoor seating too. Solid stop. read more

Food was not good this time. The brisket sandwich was over cooked and hard. The loaded Mac & cheese burger was just average with no flavor. The pesto, tomato, and bacon sandwich was good. But you can't screw that up! The old mill dip is always good though. The service was just okay. We were seated by " The housewives of Geneva" ladies, nobody wants to hear about your gynecology stuff at dinner. Then when they left, the daycare center came! So many seats away from the drama. The Old Mill Winery was hopping on a Friday night in May. Despite there being tables available, there was a 30 minute due to staffing issues. We had a glass of wine while waiting and the bartender John was pleasant and working his behind off making all the drinks for the bar patrons, those of us waiting and the entire restaurant...he was a rockstar. The wines are pleasant but nothing stood out enough to want to buy a bottle. The food was okay. The Old Mill Dip was outstanding and unusual and we really enjoyed this. I had the Loaded Wine Burger and Zucchini Fries. The burger was cooked medium and flavorful. The zucchini fries were stuck together, mushy and flavorless...not edible. My companion had the Garlic Chicken Pasta and he said the flavor was there but the texture of the chicken was rubbery and the pasta was overdone. Service was terrific, friendly, prompt and attentive despite how busy and short staffed they were. I recommend it and definitely get the dip, but I'd stay away from the Zucchini fries for sure. read more

This place is super cute and old fashion. The food is basic- nachos and cheese, hamburgers, beer, etc there is spacious indoor and outdoor seating. The parking lot is gravel and very close to the train tracks so it can be abbot loud. Service is prompt and friendly and the vibe is local and casual. Warm and rustic ambience in this little winery/resto. We started of with the flights of wine for .50 cents each. I must say they seemed all sweet to my taste, however the food was great. We started off with the garlic butter mussels (gooood!) then we had surf and turf (steak and shrimp skewers) good as well. We paired it with a bottle of riesling and chambourcin (red). Stopped after a long afternoon of touring the area. We had to walk in to ask to sit outside. On a beautiful day, maybe have the stand-out doors. I watched numerous elderly people with canes have to walk up the stairs just to walk back out to the table. It's kind of dangerous, in my opinion. Order the old mill pizza and the old mill burger. First, the pizza, it had little flavor, no taste of garlic butter, or taste at all. All it is is cheese and chicken, which is probably just a package chichen from sysco foods. There is no flavor to that either. The burger that was suggested by our server was supposed to be also favorable with a wine sauce. I'm not sure where the wine sauce was because this burger was dryer than anything front Burger King , it was flame broiled to death. We order it load with mushrooms and onions. The onion was a hunk of red onion. Let's just say skip the food here. Upon leaving, a large group was seated at a table where the host didn't even wipe it down after another guest left. Four of us started our evening here, at lunchtime. The atmosphere is nice, plenty of wood surroundings and pleasant staff. Food was ok. Nothing to excite you, but better than BK. We had: -Old Mill Wine Burger- I heard it was good. -Beer Battered Fish Hoagie- Stay away. This was mine. Dry, old fishy taste. -And two other non-memorable meals. Wine is why we go to Geneva. We sipped: -Geneva Blush- good but sweet. Actually bought a bottle to take home. -Grindstone Red- Nice taste, fruity, went down well. -Cabernet Franc - I liked this the most, but I gravitate to dry reds. This had some body, not bitter, not sweet. -And we got a few taste samples to try more. I recommend you do this. In short, this place beats many in Geneva for lunch. Dinner is different and I'd recommend starting here first. I will likely return, but the other three in my group liked it and will return. read more

Got there at 7:56 pm and sat at the bar trying to get the bartender attention for 5. Finally got a Diet Coke and glass of wine. When we asked for a menu we were told the kitchen had already closed. We were hungry and it was on 8:05 pm but we understood. Then few minutes later the Bartender acted like she had to be bothered to stop cleaning to get a drink refill. All of this was as we watched what happened to a table of ten behind us. Three people got mistakes to their orders and one never got his food. My wife and I came by here on a Sunday on our way out of town. They had a very good pasta special for Sundays, under $3 with purchase of a drink. I added a meatball and Italian sausage to mine for an additional charge. The pasta was OK, nothing special. The meatball and Italian sausage was also good. For the price the food was an excellent value. The inside was pretty cool too. An old mill that still had much of an old building feel. I wouldn't exactly call this place divy, but it's not far off. Definitely a casual atmosphere with great prices on food and drink. Unfortunately we didn't try any of the wine; we'll try that next time. read more

The last stop of our wine tour ended here and it was beyond any and all expectations. Several menus I checked out in advance of our trip to GOTL mentioned mussels and I was looking forward to having some. We ordered water and a bottle of Grindstone White to drink. The wine was a great match for the mussels, which were pretty terrific by themselves. We saved some of the garlic butter from the mussels and used it to dip the bread into. The bread came with a honey butter that was just okay, but it was much better with the mussel sauce. Dinner consisted of a delectable portabella ravioli and a combo meal for me. The combination I chose was a 6oz sirloin and 1/3 rack of ribs. The tasty sides were potatoes and grilled corn on the cob. I had written more about the meal and experience, but Yelp crashed and deleted the second half of my comments. Long story short, I loved this place. Great service, good wine, delicious food, and a top-notch value for my money. read more
