I've only been to this casino and Tropicana and actually gambled! I won then lost some but that's completely my fault! Their liquor laws suck. Took a getaway weekend to Metropolis and could not be MORE disappointed in the hotel! We have stayed at several other casinos in the past, but never a Harrah's. We will not be doing that again. The room had a complete layer of dust on it, the entire casino had a 20+ year old look to it, our door did not even close properly! We had to pull HARD to get our door closed. Minimum services too, they even wanted $3 for a 20 oz soda from the vending machine. I understand that prices are going up, but if you are going to make your drink machines that high, you may want to take another form of payment than a card. I do not think I am the only one that would rather NOT run my card for a soda. The best option for morning coffee was on the casino floor. Did not even have simple napkins for the single cup coffee pot in the room. And to top it all off, we had a morning visitor on the day we were leaving, a cockroach! When we checked out, we asked for the managers number to let him know the state of the hotel. We did call, and after explaining the problems, he were offered us a free night like we would want to try that again... Go to Metropolis, it was fun, stay away from Harrah's, and you wont be disappointed! read more

First of all. It is a smoke free casino. That's wonderful. People, dealers are usually very nice and friendly. I am not going to tell if you will win or lose, that's totally up to you and your luck. I've been there numerous times over the past 5-6 years as it's the nearest casino to Nashville. The staff is ALWAYS outstanding and friendly and helpful. The non-smoking gaming floor is wonderful. The buffet is ok, it's very southern food that will fill you up. Pecan pie is always good. I have had winning days there and losing days there.....what else to expect.......it's gambling! I'm mostly a video poker slot player, and a wide selection of choices is available. Bummer about no comp alcohol, but it's just their thing there. First stay in some time. We were very pleased with hotel renovation, cleanliness, and amenities. A good value in entertainment for the cooler months! This place gets two stars because of the newly renovated casino floor. The hotel doesn't have a work out room or a pool / hot tub which are typically a must have for people traveling for work. Newer restaurants. Free parking. The hotel rooms are nicely furnished but the place generally feels old. There are signs of deferred maintenance in the hotel hallways from maid carts. I'm not sure why this Casino and Hotel has such a low rating. I've been here a half dozen times or so and every trip has been fine. Getting a room on a Thursday (or any weekday) night is great value, half price compared to the weekends. There are A LOT of slots here, if that's your thing. I play table games and depending on the day and time, that can be a hassle because the number of tables are quite limited. I have been to LV and certainly it doesn't compare favorably to the Casinos there. Your expectations should be lowered considered where geographically this is located. read more

Stayed recently at Harrah's in Metropolis IL. Those of us who have been to other Harrah's can not expect, at this one, what we get at other Harrah's. We were told by a cocktail waitress that this is the only Harrah's where some of the rules have changed. We checked in and were not made aware of the no room service, because of Covid. The food choices are very limited at this Harrah's. Everything seemed clean, as all staff was busy cleaning. However, we requested (in person at the front desk) some more coffee for our room and it was not handed to us, but told it would be delivered to our room. We had to ask twice. The front desk clerk was a little rude about it. The Casino: a lot of older machines - a few newer machines. The slots were not loose by any stretch of the imagination. They kept announcing big winners (the casino is very small compared to others), but we only heard the announcements and did not see anyone from Harrah's doing payouts. The only free drinks were coffee/water. You paid for all alcohol. The security at the entrance to the Casino for the most part were very nice. There was one, that possible could use some training when it comes to making comments to women concerning their appearance and clothing choices. We decided to check out and requested a luggage cart. The lady at the front desk told us they could not let us use the carts because of Covid. Seriously? At any rate I will not be back, but only because all their inconsistent rules that didn't make sense and some of their rude employees. read more

The hotel took our complimentary stay and nickel and dimed us for 180.00 on a complimentary stay, no comps on alcoholic purchases, couldn't order a shot with a chaser, no smoking section, tiny gaming area, smoking area was filthy with fries and ketchup all over the cement that everyone had to tip toe around and NO One cleaned up in over 24 hours, our pet friendly room's carpet had more stains in the carpet than ever ever ever should be acceptable. VERY POOR performance from a Harrahs casino! the only reason for the 2 stars was because the support staff was amazing and so friendly. We are avid gamblers and travel the country this was our first stay at Metropolis Harrahs and I can tell you..We should have stayed at motel 6. read more

The rooms are wonderful. Clean, nice bathroom with larger than normal tubs (which is a big deal for me since I am 6'4"). The casino was nice for a small town and the location with a very friendly staff. We only stayed one night (Friday) and left Saturday morning because the price of the room went from $120 to $280. Very dissatisfied in the hotel and in the casino. No pool or hot-tub to relax in. Not very many machines. Losing so we drove to St. Louis and enjoyed the casinos around there. Then drove the 2 1/2 hours back because we had to pay over 200 for a room. The hotel also charged a Resort Fee after I already paid taxes via Expedia. RESORT, me thinks not. My update for this hotel has brought me to change my star rating for 2 reasons on top of the mishap with check in and incidental deposit malay. Anyhow my stay was nice, the hotel was nice and the room was great, however the food I ordered from the diner late night was worst than a run down gas stations food. It was a mess and it was horrible tasting and looking, served in a styrofoam container and tasted as if it was microwaved in there. It was delivered to my door by what looked like a maintenance person and the next day when I was asked how my stay was and I brought it to the attention of the staff, they had little to say and directed me towards a comment card box so I left a comment there and complemented the stay overall but expressed my dismay with their diner fare/late night room service and I have yet to hear anything from them about it. If I had it all to do over again I would never have agreed to pay that amount for just a chili cheese dog and milkshake, and i would have made a fuss about it right then in the middle of the night instead of planning to take it up with the front desk. All in all I was pleased with the price and the experience, but I would never order food from there again and if I did, you better believe I would let them know asap if I wasn't happy or planning to pay for it. I would have never paid for such crap food if it wasn't on an incidental charge basis where I basically had to sign for it and then eat. By that time it was like 2am and i was just exhausted and plain physically in no condition to waste time trying to resolve the situation. But over $15 bux if it was any other occasion I would have definitely made it known to the management. Im sure ceasars/harrahs has an overall customer service policy that is second to none. Anyways its what it is. I got a great deal and I plan on returning next time im in that neck of the woods. read more

Pretty nice hotel, especially for the metropolis area. It probably doesn't compare to most other harrahs hotels, but you can't beat it if you're in the area. Good size rooms with decent room amenities. Valet available. Food available in the connected casino as well as one restaurant in the hotel itself which is open for breakfast only. read more

Stayed in Paducah for one night so we decided to go check out the casino in Metropolis. This is the smallest casino we have ever been to. On a Saturday night they had 3 of the 4 poker tables open with about 25 people waiting to play, yet they never offered to open the 4th table because they were inadequately staffed. They didn't seem at all concerned about the people who were waiting, some for over two hours. We were just glad we hadn't spent the $215 to stay in the hotel. I wouldn't recommend this casino unless you only want to play slots. read more

1. I was not thrilled with security having to take a picture of me when I walked through the door. Something about Illinois state law requiring this for patrons under 30. Never had this happen at any other casino I've ever been to. 2. Cocktail waitress came by to take our drink order. She came back, put the drinks in our hands, and then said, "That'll be 3.75." Uh, how about telling me that when I order or BEFORE you hand me the drink? I've never been in a casino that charges for alcohol when you're playing at a machine. However, this isn't the problem. The problem is that the waitress didn't bother to tell me there was a cost so that I could either cancel my order or have my money ready when she came back. Also, when I asked why drinks weren't free, she didn't even bother to explain that it is an IL state law. She just said they're not free and walked away. 3. Tickets kept getting stuck in the machines and at one point it took 10-15 minutes to locate an attendant to open the machine. The place have EXTREMELY TIGHT machines. After two drinks , I was told I had to wait 20min between drinks to be served. The buffet was closed only open on weekends. Was followed around and asked by several people how we were doing.. Went to Four Aces to get food and the cashier said " What up nigger" when myself and boyfriend went to order , which I thought was EXTREMELY RUDE and uncalled for , especially since we are not African American. I would consider a better rating if they didn't charge $18.00 PER DEVICE for internet whether it be wired or wifi. There is The Baymont just across the parking lot and they offer free wifi. You would think with what they make in the casino and at the bar that they could include internet with the price of the room. Being self employed even though I'm supposed to be relaxing, I need internet access. This is where the majority of my work comes from. Luckily I do have a hotspot. At $18.00 per day per device if I didn't have a hotspot it would be well worth buying one. I would not recommend the motel here to anyone for this reason alone. If your not a "BIG SPENDER" don't expect to be welcomed to the hotel! I placed my reservation over a month ago for 2 rooms, one was a handicapped room, and got a confirmation. We drove 2 1/2 hours to the hotel. When we got there we were informed that we had been bumped to The Baymont Hotel because they had over booked by 11 rooms. Obviously they felt were not important enough to stay in the hotel in which we had made the reservations well in advance. One person in our group is very disabled and needed the handicap room I had booked. But Harrah's had not secured a handicap room for her at The Baymont. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!! There was no concern for us as customers and we were very disrespected and quite frankly made to feel extremely unappreciated. Cheryl, the manager did talk to us after being shoo'd off to the side by the desk clerk, as not to bother the important guests. Cheryl told us the main manager, Kyle Webb (SP) had made the decision and she could not change it. After asking to speak with him directly we were told he was unavailable. ?? I asked her to please explain the situation again to him about our disabled friend and she said she would. I asked her why he was available to her but not to his customers. That was another slap in the face to us. Kyle Webb did finally come out to speak to us. With no personality at all, he was sure to let us know that his decision was final and showed by his attitude he had absolutely no compassion for our disabled friend. He was not apologetic at all. In fact he barely looked any of us in the face. His attitude was that we were trash and just bothering him. Nice representation of Harrah's. The other person in our party, booked a room 3 weeks AFTER us and was not bumped. So she ended up giving her room to the disabled person and she went to The Baymont instead. The Baymont is across the street and is a rundown dirty place. I did not feel safe at all. In fact I slept with the light on. We had planned on drinking and having a good time in the casino so we did not drive back over to the casino after putting our bags in the rooms. SO at 2am we (2 women) had to walk across the dark parking lot and into a seedy hotel alone. Nice... Two of my friends are over 80 years old and the disabled party has been in poor health lately and was really looking forward to this trip together. She has been bed ridden for about a month and this was her first outing. We were looking forward to a relaxing, fun stay at the hotel, instead it turned in to a trip we all regret taking and if it hadn't been such a long drive we would have left and went to Tropicana Evansville Casino, where they would have surly been more welcoming. I can't believe that Harrah's would cast off their customers, and especially to a subpar hotel that is dirty and not even close to what you would expect from Harrah's. That is just another representation that they have no concern for their customers. After looking at the reviews from several sites, this behavior seems to be common from this hotel. For a small town casino I was very impressed. Big smoking room which was clean and well stocked. The stand out here is the staff! From Taylor at the front desk....to Amy and Tara at the Bridges restaurant...Brenda at the casino bar to the wonderful and helpful security staff. Had a incredible strip steak and chocolate cake. I didn't go to the casino just stayed in the hotel. No valet which kind of stinks when you are arriving late and the lot is full. The staff at check in was rather curt, but for the most part the staff is very friendly and helpful. Harrah's Metropolis is by far the my least favorite hotel/casino I've visited. They lure you in with a "complimentary" stay, however our free hotel stay cost us over $1,900 in a 24 hour period. The slots DO NOT PAY! It's totally absurd!!! Anyway, I was put on hold and consequently hung up on two out of three times I called their direct line and in retrospect, l should have taken as a sign to stay away. The casino is very small and they have only one table of each game open at a time. The dealers are friendly though, helps soften the blow of repeated defeat at the roulette table just a touch. Did I mention the slots DO NOT PAY??? It was quite an astonishing thing to witness over and over again. Played almost every denomination of slot, penny, quarter, dollar and 5 dollar machines. NOTHING!! The buffet was good, that was comped at least. Chick behind the bar taking late night food orders left a lot to be desired. Waited at the bar for at least 5 minutes before she appeared, she begrudgingly took our order, never let us know when the food was ready. Drinks there were so sub par, barely an ounce pour, oh and I was curtly informed that they "don't do doubles" by another one of their not so friendly bartenders earlier in the day. We had a pet friendly room which was my favorite part of the entire experience, being able to bring our collie along with us was great. Was charged about $80 however, for what was supposed to be a complimentary stay, to cover the taxes and "pet fee". You'd think they could offer up furniture that didn't have big nasty looking stains on it considering the hefty additional fees?? Overall this casino is dumpy, outdated and the slots are definitely not worth your time. Also, average age of the guests we saw during our stay was about 65. We will never be back. read more

most of the slots were old. the very first one I sat at, when I cashed out my ticket got stuck and I had to call for service, I was told that machine does it to every body every time., only one floor and its small, the staff kept telling us how wonderful the buffet was so we tried it, lunch cost 23.00 and it was all over cooked or under cooked deep fried junk. the desserts were nothing to write home about, my first try was the coconut cream pie and it tasted like sun tan oil had been sprayed on it ,one bite was all it took for me. my second try was the apple dumpling there were no apples in it. just a very thin spread of apple flavored jelly inside. not worth the cost at all. read more

This Harrah's is a joke. They make reservations, sent out confirmations and then when you get there they say that they overbooked and you don't have a room there. They then have an agreement with the other hotels in Metropolis to take their overbooked reservations. So if you think you have a reservation at Harrah's, you may instead be booked at a Baymont, a Super 8 or a Holiday Inn. They do not see a problem with doing this. In fact one of the ladies at the check in desk, I think she was the head of Human Resources, told me that she "had this happen to her all the time when she traveled". I travel a lot and I don't have it happen to me. I have stayed at Harrah's in Atlantic City, and Las Vegas and I have never had my room given away. We even call the morning of our reservation and told them what time we would be there and they still had given our room away. I don't know what guidelines they use for honoring their reservations but it is a bad one. When we were at the other hotel that they booked for us we talked to 10 other people at the Holiday Inn that had the same experience we had of being routed to a different hotel. According to the hotel staff this happens all the time. I read reviews of others who say they had such a good time and the rooms were so nice at Harrah's. Well my review of Harrah's is not good because I did not get a room where my reservation and confirmation were listed. When I make a reservation at a property that is where I expect to be staying, not a mile or two down the road. Maybe one the reasons is that you get there thinking you are staying at the hotel/casino and they figure even if you are staying in a different hotel you will still come to their casino because there is nothing else to do there. This helps all the hotels, but it is a scam of the people with the reservations. Doing this type of thing I think is a travesty. It is all a big SCAM by the hotel manager. read more

We drove from out of state and decided to go 100 miles out of the way on our trip to Nashville. The told me they would have a room and I reserved it. We get there and all they have was a smoking room. The guy at the front was obviously new and says it won't smell like a cigar box like we think. We get to our room and I was shocked. The smell was HORRIFIC! I wanted a refund to leave and they said no and they would spray freshener in the room. Really for a 160.00 this is what I get? Anyways went down to the casino to play and was sitting at a poker table for around 4 hours. I made a statement to a guy saying his hand was good before I realized 4 of the same suit on the board to give me a flush! The floor guy told me my hand was dead once I told him he was good. About 10 mins later in another hand with a lady and at showdown I had pocket 4s and she had 10 high but board was 2 over pairs to mine so I showed and her EXACT words were "you're good". Ok according to the floor boss her hand should have been dead. No they changed the rule and said as long as she didn't muck her cards they are live. The entire table even was shocked. The floor guy is obviously new to the position and no idea how to run a casino. I requested to speak to management and asked them to view videos but "they didn't have video"! What kind of casino doesn't have video every 5 feet. Save your money and do not go to this hell hole. Way over priced and the staff they must have just found on the streets pushing a cart. Not to mention the dealer even told me I had 5 bucks left after that hand and I told him I didn't want that I wanted the pot so he took it upon himself to put it in his tip bucket when I told him not to. Not a large casino but the aviance is great..the "Boat" will soon disappear and will become a land-based operation in middle of November 2014.The rooms are clean and updated even the smoking ones though the casino will be new and non-smoking I think..call your hostess early to book and if your a player they will treat you as well or better than Vegas without having to beg.The food is rated 5-stars at the range steak-house and 4-star at the buffet. Valet is fast and responsive. Our hostess was not just efficient but a comedian as well, very promt and has great communication skills. Will actually call you back with confirmation no's and answer any questions you may have..They smoked me bad fri. nite on slots but made up for it the next nite in my favor, they actually want to see you win. All employees were extremely nice and professional, the waitresses must all be from Ky all very cute and always smiling, must be a great place to work. Remember it is not "Vegas" We love to antique and speciality shop, Metropolis has several antique and thrift shops 2-3 blocks away, and Paduca, Ky is 10 min. away Sometimes you are treated the way you treat others so be nice, these people are trying to make a living also....remember pigs get fed hogs get slaughtered..will definitely be returning.
