All the stylists are pleasant and friendly and prices are affordable. It's conveniently located across from the new mall/Trader Joe's. Sheila has styled my hair for over two years and has never disappointed. She is a skilled stylist and an experienced colorist. She really listens to me, makes good recommendations, and takes the time to figure out with me what I really want each time. When I think I want a change, I come prepared to talk it over with Sheila. She never minds the extra time and never rushes me, making sure we are on the same page before proceeding. She's always game to try something new, or go back to something I liked previously, too, never makes me feel bad for wanting to do that. If you are looking for someone to fix a really bad hair cut, please give Sheila a chance to help you. She straightened my hair out twice from awful cuts, where there was not a lot left to work with in both situations (the first time was when I met her, and then once was after I'd tried someone new because I didn't want to wait for her to return from leave... I probably would go somewhere else if it wasn't for my stylist, Dillian. I've tried a number of salons in Charlottesville based off of various recommendations and he has given me the best cut so far. Everybody who works at Shear Power is extremely nice I do enjoy visiting. That being said, they will try to upsell you in every way possible, from deep conditons, to protein treatments, to eyebrow waxes to hair product. Just hold your ground and say no. I used to fall for it every time but ever since I was talked into getting a perm that I ended up hating, I've stopped falling for the upsells. Based on my concerns about the perm, they should have steered me away and into something else. I wanted a wave, not frizzy tight curls. They could have cared less, they just wanted the upsell. Btw - it's not my stylist that pushes product, it's everyone else. He stays out of it. Oh, I also wouldn't recommend getting your brows waxed there.
