This is a great store. I went there to have a couple of watch batteries changed. They did it within about ten minutes. In the meanwhile, I glanced around the place. They did attempt to interest me in some of the merchandise, but in a very understated way, which I appreciated. There's no rule that says an employee can't do their job! I purchased a ring while visiting Ruidoso and didn't have time to wait for it to be sized so I took it to Harris Jewelers, I like to support local businesses. I had looked up the approximate cost of downsizing and it was between $20.00 and $100.00. This ring wasn't real expensive and was made by a local jeweler with a beautiful shop so I didn't thin't it would be very expensive to resize. Boy was I shocked, $230.00 ! I only paid $150.00 for the ring. I declined. I did a little research and found a jeweler also in Rio Rancho with great reviews so this morning I took it to that. local jeweler and even though his shop,wasn't lite up like a New York show case he was very knowledgeable and his price was $51.00! Wow! The previous customer ahead of me was having a custom piece made of several pieces of family jewelry and I listened in and was very impressed. He knew exactly what she wanted and they agreed on the design and price. I felt very confident that the customer would be very happy with the work. Why do these companies have to rip off their customers? Please treat your customers with a little respect. read more

I have given this business about $1500 in the past few months with a watch and a ring repair. I went in last week and sold them some jewelry that I no longer wear. I got decent prices for them, and they cut me a check. I was asked not to cash the check that day, but to wait to the following day, due to an unspecified issue. I cashed the check then the next day, Saturday. When I checked my banking online on Tuesday, I saw that their check had BOUNCED and I had a returned check fee. I went over to Harris Jewelers with proof of the bounced check and return fee. They offered a new company check or a personal check, that was "good as gold". I declined both offers and asked for cash only. I went with the owner to their bank, and they me got cash for the full amount of the bounced check and my return fee. I received an apology, but somehow it just did not seem real sincere. Additional Note to Owner: The purpose of Yelp is a public forum to share our experiences, good or bad. The fact is this happened and it shouldn't have. I'm not here to put you down. I'm here to share that this business wrote a check that bounced. End of story. And by the way it would go a long way as a business owner to take accountability and not argue with loyal customers. You have now officially lost my business. Reputation is everything in this town! I dealt with a very sweet woman, (cannot recall her name I apologize) we were both admiring a 14 karat gold lion ring with a diamond in his mouth. The staff there is so friendly and honest and they answer all of your questions right away. I went in with two pieces of jewelry I inherited, both of them, are 14 karat yellow gold so it was nice to confirm that that they were real will definitely be going back. I have a great deal of expensive custom-made jewelry, much made pre-1900 in Germany for my grandmother who I lost in 1948. Much is irreplaceable because the gems just aren't available, nor is the Old World craftsmen who handmade so much of it. So, I'm very particular who works on my jewelry, even the rare sterling silver pieces made in the 1940s. When I met Gina and then Ronny and Randi a few years ago, I knew my search for a jeweler who met my expectations was over. No matter your needs, this team will meet and exceed them. They know their stuff, are professional AND kind, and always treat their customers as if we're the only ones in the shop. I bought a watch band at an estate sale, it was marked 14k, I took it to Harris jeweler, they tested it and weighed it, and offered me a check of approximately $1150.00 ,, she warned me that that offer would only stand till the close of the business day!! I felt pressured, and declined the offer. I then took the piece to crown coin and jewel, on San Mateo, they did the same check, and offered me $1671, in cash. My husband had them make several custom necklaces for me and they're beautiful. I had an emerald ring made for me by Enchanted Jewelry and the stone fell out of the setting. Thankfully I heard the emerald hit the floor and it only chipped the edge a bit. Harris Jewelers fixed the setting and the stone is secure. They do very good work. read more

Oh, I love the idea of supporting local businesses. But I just got taken advantage of here at Harris Jewelers. I went in this morning with a wedding band that needed to be re-sized. Gina told me they would not stretch it, but rather would add more gold, cut and add the extra bit. We agreed upon the price. But I did want to think about it. When I took the ring back later today and agreed to the procedure, they took my ring, spent all of 30 seconds stretching it (which I did not want done and which they did not ask permission to do) and then charged me $40 to do this 'stretching' that my husband could have easily done at home. So 30-seconds of labor, no materials, $40, without asking my permission/approval. When I complained, the owner said maybe he needs to educate his staff better. I asked, 'And I am to pay for that re-education?' He ignored my question and asked I wanted them to shrink it back. I wonder how much he would have charged me for that. Sure, go to Harris Jewelers if you enjoy being taken advantage of. I would not go back. I voiced my displeasure, but Mark apparently had no intention of making things right. Ugh! read more

This is a great local business that we've been coming to for years for jewelry repair. My wife's engagement ring diamond occasionally becomes loose and we can drop in and they tighten it right there, takes only 15 min. And they even clean it up real nice for you. Also we have dropped it off to get rhodium plated as the "white gold" starts to fade after few years. They usually get this done within a week. I've always been impressed with their customer service. Very friendly and you get this "homely" atmosphere compared to jewelry stores at the mall. As for jewelry selection it's a good mixture of items, including watches. My wife and I went to Harris Jewelers today for a one year anniversary ring I wanted to have made for my wife. We arrived at 1:00 PM. We waited about 5 minutes before someone came up to help. She apparently was not having a very good day. She was very unhelpful and made both my wife and I very uncomfortable. The last straw was when she threw the catalog on the counter. I asked her if we came at a bad time. She said no and what do we want. So I told her to give us back our rings and we will go elsewhere for our jewelry needs. And its a shame. I have been here on two separate occasions and have found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The first time I was having an issue with my Tag Heuer watch - they were able to quickly help. The second time I needed to have a battery replaced in my Movado watch - the did this quickly and charged $10. The store is a bit dated inside, but otherwise had a positive experience during both visits. I went to sell some scrap gold, some 14k, some 10k, one marked 12k, the estimated value I got from Harris jewelers, Karen Fitzpatrick, was $1156.51. She told me that was the total value of my pieces, I took all pieces except for one 14k pearl ring, my wife wanted to keep it. The quote I got from Crown jewel and coin was $1672.00, that's a 500.00 difference, I would suggest you go anywhere else to sell scrap gold, as that was clearly, an effort to exploit my lack of knowledge in this area, as the scrap gold price fluctuates, with the gold market, but $500.00 is clearly an attempt to RIP me off. read more
