I recently stopped by Mark Diamond's to determine if they could repair several pieces of jewelry (the necklaces, two watches, and a bracelet). The person who helped me assessed everything quickly and immediately fixed the bracelet and one off the necklaces. He advised one of the watch repairs would take quite some time and be fairly expensive because it was an old watch. Joe advised the other repairs would require about 15 minutes. When I returned about 25 minutes later, everything was ready and neatly packaged. I was surprised at how easy and quickly my pieces were repaired, and everyone in the shop was very pleasant. I was looking to have a very inexpensive watch battery changed not far from home. It was not hard to choose Mark Diamond's because of its location and reviews. I felt a little guilty walking in to this beautiful store to only purchase a watch battery and not diamonds. I was greeted warmly by Christina and we had a very nice conversation. She really made me feel welcomed. In looking closer at my watch I noticed I needed a new band and Christina found the exact same one that I had. She said the watch would be ready by the next day and she would call me. But, to my surprise while we were out running errands later that same day I got the call my watch was ready. Mark greeted me, and he was very friendly and courteous. Christina, Mark and I had a great conversation about our new move here to Albuquerque, and it turns out Mark is a big foodie just like us. They should not be allowed to sell Tacori. I took my engagement ring in to be resized when I was pregnant and instead of sending it to Tacori they did they had their jeweler do it. The ring started to fall apart after. I took it back to them to send it to Tacori to fix. Tacori said because they sized it instead of sending it in that the ring was compromised and my warranty was voided. After many discussions with an exec at Tacori, they agreed to reinstate the warranty and rebuild my ring. It had to be completely redone. Tacori custom builds each ring around the center stone to ensure these things don't happen. Taking it to Marks nearly cost me about $8,000 for a new setting. Thankfully the Tacori people didn't make me pay for Marks mistakes. 3/23: I spoke to a VP at Tacori and filed a complaint with the better business bureau at the time. I find it hard to believe you never heard of the situation. 3/26: I did take this up with management at the time. I was very distraught that my engagement ring was considered "compromised" because of the actions of your jewelry store. Calling someone a liar is not a good way to do business. I went to the BBB and Tacori because of the way the situation was handled by your business. I am very sorry that you feel that I am a bad person because I truthfully told my account of a situation. Perhaps your communication style with a potential disgruntled customer is not working for you. I will not ever buy a piece of jewelry from you and will tell everyone I know not to as well. You are simply making a bad situation worse with your responses. Guess what, all of Yelp can now see how you treat customers. read more

Last month, I had the most wonderful customer service experience at Mark Diamond's Jewelers on Paseo Del Norte & Wyoming. A couple years ago, I inherited my mother's large and bizarre and eclectic collection of jewelry. She loved "fleas" and yard sale treasures, and thought of herself as a one-woman Antique Road Show, buying and selling and trading all the time. Recently, I unearthed a lovely, very unusual, retro (antique?) 20s-style men's wrist watch from her collection. My husband just fell in love with it. The watch wasn't running and the leather band was aged, flaking, and scratchy on the underside. I hoped Mark Diamond's might be able to help me get it working and replace or repair the band as a surprise for my husband. I knew nothing about where it came from or how old it was. I didn't even know what metal it was nor if the leather on the band was genuine. I'd never been in the store before despite passing by it all the time. I am so glad I went! They spent so much time researching and explaining the mysterious watch to me. They worked hard to find the right band for it, checking with all of their suppliers. They pointed out a very very tiny missing part that could have posed a risk for the band falling off. They immediately tested it to see if we could ignore the problem, and set my mind at ease that it wasn't necessary to replace the part to make the watch wearable. They replaced the battery and we celebrated that it still worked after God only KNOWS how many years in one of my mother's jewelry boxes. It looks like I'll be having to get a custom leather band made because the watch and its manufacturer really ARE that unusual and hard to track down. But you can be SURE I'll be going back to Mark Diamond's again and again. That wrist watch was doubly important to me because it belonged to my recently deceased mother and because my husband, who has worn the same watch since I met him, really wanted to wear it. They treated it and me exactly right. PS: There's more! A couple week's later I took in another watch that's been in garage storage for 14 years to get the battery replaced so my now teenager could start wearing it. The watch belonged to her birth mother that died when she was an infant. So, again, very sentimental and important. It has interchangeable bands. They put on the band she wanted to wear and replaced the battery. We had dropped it with them while we went next door for a hair appt. They brought it over to us in the salon when done but would not accept payment from me because it didn't make the watch run. The oil inside had dried up and was crusty, preventing it from moving. Instead, they gave me an estimate for cleaning it out and/or replacing the mechanism. Again, the most caring and courteous of treatment for me, my teen, and that special watch. I think this place writes fake yelp reviews, the salespeople are not very well informed and also they overcharge on everything. A while back I noticed that one of the prongs on my wedding ring had broken off and the stone was moving. I took it to them and they agreed to fix it. When I received it back and took it home, I noticed it was snagging on everything and I took it back. They did a slightly better job and gave it to me. It was still snagging and I had to take it back. So three trips for something that they should've fixed properly the first time. Also, as I learned later, usually jewelers have lifetime warranty on the ring prongs: meaning if they break they will cover the cost of fixing it. This jeweler neglected to tell me this so they could charge me for it. After the prong was semi fixed (still snags to some things whereas before it never did) and my ring was cleaned, one of my tiny stones from my band fell out. I went to them again to ask how much it would be to fix. They estimated $2000 to remake and $1500 to fix. I then went to Shelton Jewelers and they fixed my ring for $150! They're either in the business of cheating the customer or are incompetent and don't know how to do basic fixes. If you read the yelp reviews you'll notice there is a tone to them: "I had a jewelry problem, I went here, so and so greeted me so nicely, they fixed the problem wonderfully and gave me back my jewelry oh so nicely wrapped." Buyer beware. Shop around. I would not trust these guys again! read more

I have experienced jewelry stores where the salespeople seem to be "sizing everybody up" and deciding who can afford to shop there -- that is NOT the atmosphere at Mark Diamond's. They never seem irritable when I ask to try on a lot of things. Recently bought a beautiful sterling silver necklace by a Spanish designer whom I had never heard of -- it's just the right length and big enough for people to notice. I get a lot of compliments on it. Also have bought watches there, and they look beautiful and professional -- not cheap, like some of the watches in department stores -- and they run well. My father-in-law recommended Mark Diamond to my now husband when he went to look for my engagement ring. He initially worked with Ellen Diamond, who skillfully helped him out when I gave the wrong ring size (whoops!). He was very happy with the ring and the service so we returned for his wedding band months later. Joe Mares helped us find a fantastic matching band and the whole process went very smoothly. At the time we considered getting a wedding band for me that matched my Tacori engagement ring, but it was too pricey for us. We did not feel pressured in the least, which we really appreciated. We moved away from Albuquerque a couple of years ago but still have family in the area. While visiting over Christmas my husband surprised me by taking me back to Mark Diamond to finally get my matching wedding band. We were greeted very warmly and Joe actually remembered us. He helped us find the matching band and basically took care of everything. I had to part with my engagement ring for a month because it was sent to Tacori to be matched with the band (Joe also sent my husband's band along as well to be cleaned and polished). We were a little nervous about doing this process long distance, but everything worked out perfectly. When they were ready, Joe had the rings overnighted to us and checked to make sure we would be home to receive them. My new wedding band matched perfectly with the engagement ring, which looked brand new (so did my husband's). Unfortunately, it was too small. This was my own fault--my ring size had gone up and I had just gotten used to my tight engagement ring, but wearing it together with the band made it was very obvious that they were both too tight. I was really mad at myself and was going to start calling around to jewelers in my area when I figured I should just call Joe and ask him his advice first. And I'm so glad I did! He took care of everything. He sent me a shipping label and had the ring resized and back to me in under a week. We have had such a great experience with Joe and the rest of the staff at Mark Diamond. My husband I recently moved to New Mexico. During our move, I discovered I had lost some diamonds in my wedding set. We decided once we were settled, we would begin our search for a reputable jeweler. Mark Diamond's was on our radar since we were in the area quite often so we decided to bite the bullet, after reading the reviews of course, and get an estimate for the repairs. A few days later we received a call from Alexis with an estimate. She explained what all needed to be done and it wasnt just a matter of replacing the diamonds due to the channel setting. Based on the extensive repairs, it was a lot more than we wanted to invest in my old set (we've been married 35 years). Alexis was told by her manager, Michelle that another option would be to use my existing diamonds and customize a new set. This was an option we hadn't thought of. My husband and I discussed it and decided a few days later that this was the route we would take...and that's when the fun began. They have a fabulous design software program, with tons of options to choose from and to see it on the screen in progress is most exciting. We worked with Michelle and Joe on the design, who are extremely knowledgeable and professional. My finished product is an updated version of my original set and I'm beyond thrilled with it. We were given discounts/credits where possible and Mark Diamond under promised and over delivered. This is a company that goes above and beyond for their customers. When we went to the other local jeweler "that can make diamonds a part of your life" with a custom idea we were a tad shocked to walk away with nothing but 'NO' - so I ventured across town to Mark Diamond on Paseo del Norte at Wyoming. Upon dishing the deal on an idea for a ring for my wife, they called up designs and set about adding in innovation per instruction. All this while displaying the designs on a large screen for my viewing pleasure. I ordered and surprised my wife with a wonderful eternity ring. So when my watch (a Tag I wear every day) needed a new battery I went there. But this time the replacement and pressure seal didn't go to plan, the watch kept losing time. Instead of making excuses they took it back and redid the job at no cost. Still the watch would miss time :( but again Mark Diamond jumped on the chance to make good and gave the TAG a complete clean and oil at no charge.
