This is our go-to Harris Teeter when we're in Chapel Hill. We've been shopping here regularly for groceries since June 2020. Our Chapel Hill home is equidistant between this location, store #224 "Hope Valley Commons" in Durham, and store #120 "Meadowmont Village" in Chapel Hill. Simply put, we like this Harris Teeter more than the Meadowmont location because we think the stuff here is fresher and there's more variety. The items I've personally purchased the most from this store are coffee creamer, diet soda, bagged or boxed salads and veggies, and occasionally salad dressing. My coffee creamer of choice is Silk Almond Creamer in the 32-ounce bottles. Harris Teeter regularly sells these at $4.79 per bottle and offers at least one or two flavors more than Walmart. Walmart's price is cheaper, though. A 12-pack of canned diet soda has regularly cost $6.59, but I've often gotten packs for less than that through discounts and specials. Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Dr. Pepper, and Diet Cheerwine are the types I've purchased. I also like the 8-packs of bottled Diet Coke, but it's a little more expensive at $6.59 for 8 bottles. Each bottle holds the same amount as a can (12 ounces), but I like that I don't have to commit to an entire bottle. I can seal it back up and drink it later without sacrificing carbonation. We like the Harris Teeter house brand "Farmers Market" salads (e.g. Romaine Blend) and Organic Girl boxed salads (e.g. Super Greens!). I'm not so much a fan of Fresh Express, but I'll buy it if there's nothing better. The bags of Fresh Express can be as low as $1.99 per bag of Italian salad and as high as $3.79 per bag of Hearts of Romaine. 10-ounce bags of the Harris Teeter Romaine Blend have cost $3.49 at regular price while Organic Girl has naturally been more expensive at $4.29 per 5-ounce box. However, we've often purchased boxes of Organic Girl, and many other items, when they're on sale. We've gotten Organic Girl for as low as $2.99 and $2.14 per box. The small bags of Eat Smart Vegetable Medley, Broccoli and Cauliflower, etc. have typically cost $2.99 per small bag. As for salad dressing, we like Briannas which has run $3.49 per 12-ounce bottle. The New American Creamy Balsamic and Asiago Caesar flavors have been yummy. My wife does most of the grocery shopping and cooking for us. OK - that list of examples was more detailed and exhaustive than I thought it was going to be. Admittedly, I saved up several receipts from my wife's visits to this particular store and saved them to write about in this review. We've also gotten our fair share of extra creamy Reddi Wip in both the large ($5.49) and smaller ($3.29) cans. It was a guilty pleasure which we would add to a lot of desserts, for a while. My wife has a Harris Teeter VIC card. I do not. Maybe I should get one. Coming from Atlanta, I've been using the Kroger Plus "Card" on my phone via the Kroger app. I think I get the same discounts as a VIC. Practically speaking, in general, parking is easy at this Harris Teeter. It's usually never crowded. The store is clean and the customer service is good. I always shop at Harris Teeter when I'm in the are it looks quite similar to Safeway in California to be honest down to the price match policy. The customer service from the employees can he hit or miss at time but the customer service from the managers is always impeccable is why I am rating the store 3 stars. The selection of produce is fantastic and is always so fresh. The seafood counter the seafood is always fresh and plentiful. The store is well organized and clean. They make fresh made pizzas and sandwiches which are delicious. There is also a Starbucks located inside which is a plus for your coffee fix. read more

I'm not sure why this isn't a solid four star or better Harris Teeter. It is clean, it is well stocked, the associates are pleasant to deal with. The store is bright and laid out neatly. It was very easy for me to find my hotel room snacks and drinks and then pay for them at the register. The parking lot is tidy and the cart corrals were nearly empty. This review is specifically for the ExpressLane at this location. We have been using ExpressLane for a little over a year now. We started using it when we had a baby and grocery shopping was just not something we had time for. The service was extremely helpful and we bought the yearly subscription. Fast forward to COVID times, we rely on this service! I have not had to step foot into a grocery store to shop during these challenging times. I am so grateful for the staff that risks their safety to put our grocery orders together each week. Staff are always so pleasant over the phone after they shop my order and during pickup. Staff always make me feel comfortable at pickup. They wear their masks properly, keep their distance, and place everything into the back of my car. We have another HT closer to us, but we drive the extra 5 minutes to this one because they consistently do a good job with our order. There have certainly been some mistakes here and there, but they always make it right! On my last order I asked for green bananas if possible (so they would not go bad so quickly). I ended up with 5 loose bananas and I know my personal shopper took the time to pick out all the green ones for me! Thank you! read more

Well here's mine: Location: 5 Parking: 5 Decor/Ambiance: 5 Customer Service: 4 Open 24:7 ... that's right seven days a week twenty four hours a day... and in Durham! The best thing smoking in this area. This location is always clean. And they are always stocked with everything I need. The staff is friendly and the location is kool. Odd that this is now the older Harris Teeter on this stretch of highway since they converted the Kroger up the road to a Harris Teeter. The store is usually clean, and the free cookie is always nice. The selection is decent and it's not extremely hard to get in and out of the parking lot. Why three stars then? Their non-sale prices are usually much more expensive than other grocery stores nearby. I'll pop in if I can't find what I'm looking for at other stores, but this is not our main grocery shopping destination for sure. We'll hit up Aldi for low prices and Sprouts for good produce and bulk items. read more

Every butcher knows he supposed to put a sticker with a weight date ingredients etc. April 2016 we started online shopping at Harris Teeter Hope Valley Commons. September 14, 2019 and our order for hamburger and chicken is destroyed yet again. We have no idea what they have wrapped in brown paper because there are no sticker identifying it to me. This happens about 95% of the time since 2016. We have stayed with this company because I am Handicap and need the online service. I order once a month why is it so hard to get my order correct. Always a pleasant experience here. I've shopped at this Harris Teeter several times already and it's safe to say I'll continue to be a frequent shopper. There is great variety in the store and it is always kept clean. I love the sushi here (on par with Whole Foods sushi) and have been getting it every time I do my grocery shopping. It's fresh and also very reasonably priced. You also can't leave without stopping by the wine & beer aisle. It has great selection for a grocery store. There is also a Starbucks at the entrance as well as a pharmacy. You're definitely paying a bit more for most items than you would at the average grocery store, but I don't find the prices to be that bad or unreasonable. I usually come on a Friday or Sunday and have never had a problem with parking. I guess I don't usually come here during peak hours, but I've only experienced long lines once, and that was a day or two before a snowstorm. Today, 10/21/22 My daughter and I made a stop at the deli of this HT to buy a cookie cake for her birthday party. After picking it out, my daughter wanted it personalized so as we approached the counter, we saw a woman w long braided hair named Kim start to exit the deli w lunch box in hand. As she started past she scanned to see if anyone was around. I figured she would tell us someone would be with us in a moment and leave, since the closest person was at the other end helping with meats. To my surprise she stopped and asked how she could help us. My daughter wanted writing and balloons, etc and Kim patiently listened, asked questions and offered really nice suggestions that would make the decorating take longer but better-so she was not just trying to be done with us. When all was decided, she asked if we were shopping for a bit or in a hurry and we said this was all we needed so she very kindly said "Well I will work on it right now for you". She was so very kind and knowledgeable and it was obvious she had been headed out for lunch or whatever and could have pawned us out on someone else. This is why I love HT over the other competitor grocery chains. HT wants your business and makes you feel appreciated. Kim never rushed us and was very professional. Harris Teeter used to be the best, almost as good as Smitty's out west (swallowed up by Albertsons). The selection and freshness of the produce was unmatched. The stores were cleaned and they had happy helpful staff. Unfortunately, after being swallowed by Kroger, they've become Kroger; crappy produce selection, dirty stores and generally a below average, and frustrating place to shop. On line experience is horrendous. Their app used to be great. It is so difficult to navigate. There are many items that are "only available in store" or in bulk and needing to be shipped. WTH? The app doesn't work with certain browsers. The navigation issues have to do with toggling between sales pages and the fact that your previous moves are not stored in the cache, so you can't go back to your search results. Previous purchases used to be selected by date, or in a long list. No more. Again, another navigational idiocy. Lastly, when you arrive for pick up, the app will not open in two browsers because their certificates are corrupt. I wish for the old 'Teeter'. Looks like Kroger promotes using the Peter Principle, so while everyone is rising to the level of their incompetence, the customers bear the brunt of their idiotic decisions. read more

I helped host a baby shower and was in charge of flowers. I had purchased cute boxes on Amazon and decided I would try HT for the arrangements. I have never used them previously. I brought my boxes in and Robin in floral at the Wakefield HT was amazing. The four arrangements turned out beautiful and received numerous compliments. I have attached photos. It was very easy to work with her and she came up with beautiful arrangements at reasonable pricing. I will definitely be back! read more

I am totally appalled at what I just witnessed at Harris teeter grocery store. Two people sitting at the bar that is now inside this store drinking while their infant is in the cart. This (bar) claims to be so you can taste test a variety of alcohol but the glasses in front of these individuals are clearly full size. So I will never spend another penny at this store. General observation about HT: I don't if it's just me but it seems almost every Harris Teeter I go to (and I've stopped in a bunch as I travel and work across the Triangle) seems to have an issue. I get the feeling they just have too many stores and not enough quality staff to work in those stores. Contrast that to say Publix where a lot fewer stores where they can be more selective and hire more costumer-minded people. A lot of HT's just aren't that customer friendly like this one. My issues from few times I've been. Deli missed an online order even though I got an email saying it was completed. Parking can be really tight as it's not a standalone store but in a large strip mall. Gotta watch yourself backing out and getting out. And customer service on the front end was not friendly or helpful at all. It really would be nice if someone from HT could come on Yelp one of these days and respond to these reviews (both good and bad) but not holding my breathe on that one. I come here only if it's emergency, and I do like their self check-out lanes- but that can't make up for the lack of quality items. I put in a complaint for a girl who insisted on helping me check out while not wearing a mask. I told her I didn't need help and she continue towards my groceries. I asked her politely to get away from me. She then walked around the store telling other shoppers that I was crazy. Lately when I'm in the store she has makes sure I can hear her calling me crazy. It appears to be a Black on White thing. I'm Canadian and am not racist. I've reported her actions to corporate but apparently they are not very interested. I've been coming to this Harris Teeters since 2011 and finally had my first 1 star experience. I went to return a couple of moldy items and was told by LUIS the packing wasn't enough. They need to see the moldy strawberries and sour pasta sauce themselves. I told LUIS that I've been asked to NOT bring in the moldy item in the past and that the packaging was enough. He still told me there was nothing he could do and he couldn't give me a refund. I pulled up the Harris Teeters return policy and it does not state that you have to bring the moldy, disgusting stuff back in. Living and working as close as I do to this HT, there are days when I'm here more than once... Lunch time stop for a hoagie, then once on the way home to pick up dinner supplies. You can't beat the convenience. Or, rather, I can't. But let's be honest, Harris Teeter needs to be rated on some pretty crucial scales. 1. Samples - You KNOW you love em. And this Harris Teeter regularly has some great ones. There's the usuals: cantaloupe bits and the occasional orange slice, as well as the classic sugar cookies in the rear. But I've also come on days where I can walk out feeling like I just stopped at a tapas joint, having sampled chips + dip, carrots + dip, fruits, wine, a mini sammy (bread sample + spread + cheese + meat) AND strolled out grabbing a Starbucks sample at the front (either drink or dessert, these are always a sweet way to end my HT journey). And there's only moderate annoyance by the one bread guy when I inevitably stop by to grab a piece but NEVER actually want his help (or his bread.... as a single girl living alone, a loaf of bread for one is just not happening). 2. Organization - This not only encompasses the floor plan of the store, but the ease in which one can walk through it. And this Teeter is spacious, clean, and a breeze to stroll through. I've been to a few stellar Teeters that have lost me when it comes to a tricky turn, and no one likes a clean-up on Aisle Whatever following a cart ramming incident. I never feel crowded or confused in this one, and my trips run smoothly. 3. Deals - Not the deals that are on every circular. I'm talking the Disco(unt) Wine, the crazy markdowns on things like batteries and energy shots, and random hair coloring supplies. I can almost always find at least ONE thing from those bins of cheap that is worthwhile. I consider that an essential (and surprising) part of any trip to the Teet. 4. Checkout - The U-Scan lines are short, and run quickly. I've only ever waited "in line" a few times, and even then, it's breezed by... People don't bring entire CARTS full of groceries, so I like that. ALSO, once I got "cash back" from the U-Scan line but, while waiting, received a phone call. In leaving to answer the call, I FORGOT my 30 dollars! Well, imagine my surprise when, 2 days later, after calling and freaking out over the money, I went back to the Teet to find that no one had picked it up and, in fact, another customer returned it to the front manager to hold it for me. That is just above and beyond. This Teeter's a winner, no matter the hour. read more

Why do I prefer this particular HT store when, like many of my fellow Durhamites, I live in close proximity to multiple Harrises Teeter? For starters, it's newer, bigger, and has more parking. It has a better selection of organic and locally grown produce, an island inhabited by a multitude of exotic cheeses, and children's shopping carts that look like rocket ships (that last one is *very* important). It also has an in-store Starbucks, which, I have to admit, is sometimes too convenient to pass up. Of course, if I am being 100% honest with myself, the real reason I do most of my grocery shopping at this HT is probably because it is much easier to turn right out of my neighborhood than it is to turn left. read more

We've moved further away from this Harris Teeter but still do our weekly shopping here. The seafood counter is the best. The staff is great and recognizes us each week. The selection of seafood is the best around, as far as grocery stores are concerned. I've found it to be even better than the fancy high brow grocery markets that many people prefer. Recently, the deli staff has been more attentive and speedy. Good, quick deli counters are rarer than 10 carat diamonds, so I hope this continues. You'll pay more for dry goods here than you will at other grocery stores, no doubt about it. But, for us, knowing that we can get everything we need in one stop makes it worth the premium. read more

I have to write this down. For a long time, HT has been one of my favorite neighborhood grocery store. I think the store staff are generally nice until today. After checkout, I found the cabbage I bought was mistakenly input as Boston Lattuce, which was more expensive. I went to the customer service and expected to have partial refund of the price difference. After the customer lady refunded me, I realized she refunded me with full price of the lettuce. Of course I would not take the cabbage so that I gave it back to the lady. To my surprise, she was so unhappy and she threw the cabbage away. I don't understand where her anger was from. It's so disrespectful that she treated an honest customer like that. I also feel bad for the cabbage she threw away. read more

JJ runs the express line like a sewing machine. I've had several online orders from here and each time I go to pick up I never have to wait more than a few minutes. No matter how long the line is, I'm out pretty quick. That's not the case at the other HT. read more

This is my usual grocery store. It is definitely nicer than the Homestead market down the street, and I think prices are fairly reasonable, although I often buy whatever is on special. I like the Starbucks at the entrance. There is one checkout clerk though who put me on the spot about not smiling (heaven forbid) and just made me feel awkward and worse in the end. When I am buying groceries, I just want to buy my groceries and get out of there, not talk about my facial expressions. read more

I am very disappointed that Harris Teeter corporate has made a decision to not enforce mask wearing in their store. While North Carolina and Durham both have mask wearing requirements, my trip today to Harris teeter was very disturbing with multiple customers and vendors/contractors in the store either were wearing no mask or had their mask pulled down below their nose or mouth. I spoke to both the security guard and the manager and was told that they are not enforcing the mask requirement. This is so inconsiderate to their customers but especially dangerous to their employees. I will no longer be shopping at a grocery store where senior leadership clearly do not care about protecting their employees or obeying the law. read more

This Harris Teeter is the newest one in Durham (AFAIK), and offers wide aisles, bright lighting and amenities such as a nice big salad bar, a gigantic cheese section, a bread section and a sushi section. There is also a Starbucks inside which is convenient if you want to grab a latte or coffee while you are doing your grocery shopping. This location is more crowded than some of the others because a lot of people think like I do (they like to shop in nice grocery stores), so you may spend a bit longer in the checkout line. Parking can be crazy too if it is really busy. It is s nice shopping experience over-all though. read more

I don't know if it's just because of the holidays, but the produce at this Harris Teeter has looked awfully wilted and tired lately. The deli is quite good (Boar's Head turkey that is actually turkey) for this area. Not thrilled with the meat. It seems to be about 90% or more case meat/prepackaged meat, and I'm always skeptical of that because it tends to come from big processors who always have recalls. I have yet to find a good place to get meat since moving to Durham recently. Will probably go to Fresh Market and/or Costco for meat. My other beef is with the self-scanners. It is next to impossible to check out if you are using your own bags. The sensor wants you to use their bags and is very unforgiving. I have found it too aggravating to even bother.
