First thing that I want to point out is that this by far is one of the most cleanest supermarkets I have ever been in. It's bright and lively. I feel in great sprits when I come here just from the lighting. Large wine and beer selection, but I only come here for one thing- shrimp! What's amazing is their customer service! You always get greeted and cashiers are courteous. One specific experience to mention is that I had to get ready early morning to head to Norfolk District Court. I couldn't find my stapler. (You def can't present documents to the judge that are unorganized!) I coulnt go to UPS store since they're not opened until 8am. So some great idea came to Mind to try customer service at Harris Teeter - first because they open early (yes!) and I recall their customer service. Sure enough I approached them and said "I know it's unconventional but can I use your stapler" (no purchase necessary lol). They didn't look at me as if I had 3 heads, they just smiled and let me use their stapler (and own to label my documents). Highly recommend this Harris Teeter. Good customer service is hard to find nowadays. Especially when it's not their mission to make their office supplies available. read more

Customer service here is a joke!! I don't mind the higher prices for better quality than the nearby Food Lion, but standing at the deli counter for 20 minutes while no one helps then the one person who does has zero idea what she is doing. A manager kept telling people "someone will be with you in a minute" as he's stocking, but no one does, not even the deli manager!! I and about 10 other people had to walk away knowing we weren't going to be getting any type of help at the deli counter. read more

My SO and I shop here all the time, we always thought the staff was so kind and helpful until we met Barbara. We went into her register lane, with reusable bags we had bought before, and tried to accuse us of not purchasing them? During the transaction I told her I was using my WIC card and instantly she gave me a disgusted face, she then screamed from the register to the worker managing self-checkout, "IS THERE A SPECIAL BUTTON FOR WIC" ( I used to be a Cashier and god forbid I did something like that, I'd be fired. You're supposed to call for assistance.. not scream in the middle of the store.) and once she turned around she began to make an ugly face to my SO and what appeared to be judging his choice of a lazy Monday outfit. Let me start off by saying this is a very well kept and well lit store in a very convenient location. I stopped by for my lunch break and purchased a sub,they are $5.99 on Fridays for a whole sub. You have a choice of different sub rolls and wraps to pick from as well as different meat choices and toppings,I went with a wheat whole sub with breaded chicken ( my first time trying it,I usually get the grilled chicken because it's my favorite )! Harris Teeter is my favorite grocery chain in the area -- the staff is always friendly, the stores are always clean, and they have a wide variety of boutique products that you can't get at the regular Food Lion or Kroger. This location is no exception -- it's a little convoluted to get to because of how the road splits, but once you manage that, it's easy breezy. If you are a VIC card member, you get all kinds of discounts that are totally worth it -- and for every $1 you spend each month you get a fuel point. The points add up and you can use them at HT fuel centers and partners to get a tank of discounted gas each month -- a nice perk if you manage it right. Overall, a great experience! read more

Awesome produce section in this Teeter. Everything looked super fresh, it was well organized and it looked to be well stocked (with only one exception - the strawberries). The rest of the store - super clean and well lit. Prices weren't terrible. I'd estimate that it's about 20% more that the Wal-Mart but you get that back in a much more pleasant shopping experience and better quality. Note - Get a VIC card. I am filing this complaint because I was walking with heavy groceries and a guy claiming to be a manager there chased me in his silver/grayish truck chased me. I never felt more harassed in my life. I shop here because it's convenient and loved to shop here but recently the fruit has been awful. I've had molded apples, raspberries and oranges the last few times I've been. I picked up a rotesserie chicken on my way home from work to make my son chicken noodle soup because he was home sick from school. As I get home, my one year old who loves chicken starts picking it apart to eat , while I'm getting everything ready for the soup. They have a great produce selection although their prices are more than they are worth. Go to their sister store, Kroger, and get the organic fruits and veggies for at least 30% to 40% less and just as good of quality. Their assortment of specialty items is larger than many local grocers, but again their prices are a bit steep. Sometimes it is worth the extra money to get the products that are difficult to find otherwise. Their meat is terrible. I don't know if it's because I purchase from the butcher and only Stockman Dakota from Farm Fresh or what, but it's bad enough that my husband and son both have asked me where I purchased the meat because it wasn't good. I no longer buy their meat. The store is extremely clean and uncluttered. The cashiers are always friendly. read more

Today is the last straw every time i have gone there for the last month i have found something with mold on it be it berries or other fruits and veggies. every time. My favorite grocer by far here in Hampton Roads. Always clean, staff is super helpful Plus they have curbside pickup for your groceries. Simply order online and choose your pick up time. Great for those super long days at the office and you just need to pick a few things up, but the last thing you want to do after a long days work is go to the grocery store. They are always so helpful at this location. I decided at the last minute that I wanted to purchase a fruit tray. On Christmas Eve. Eeek! The produce manager (Heather?) happened to be there and put together a fruit tray for me at the last minute. She was so nice and accommodating, and I know they were slammed on Christmas Eve. This Harris Teeter is very close to where we live and as a result we find ourselves here relatively often. As we travel quite often and this one is located off the Indian River Road exit, we also stop for groceries when arriving home from trips. One of the main reasons I really prefer Harris Teeter over other grocery stores close to my house is the wonderful meat, poultry and seafood selection that they have available. At the butcher area you can find pretty much anything you're looking for and I've even had them cut me some custom steaks on special occasions. The seafood selection is wonderful and they offer pre-made stuffed fish and things of that nature if you're in a hurry to make a tasty dinner. I was looking through the sauces by the steaks one day and Lo and behold I find a Peter Luger's signature steak sauce. (Luger's is a high end steak house in NYC) I was so happy to find it I snatched a few bottles. I love this place! read more

There are some screwed up people in this world, however they should not act like asses to their customers because you are not out the door at their new closing time. Great selection. I see my brother has done a review of the store already. I would have to agree with him that the prices are quite a bit higher than Walmart but the selection is much bigger. You do want to be sure that you get a VIC card because it will save you a lot of often times up to 20% I find it interesting that I realize what is important as you become older seems less important when you're younger. For example the bathrooms in Harris tier are notoriously very clean. As an older person I find this very important, I am confident that young people would Not even notice the condition of the bathroom. I give it three stars because it is a regular Harris Teeter. In my life I have visited many Harris Teeter stores throughout the area, this one is no different than any of the other ones that I have been in. With that said as a whole Harris Teeter has a huge selection. I always shop with my VIC card and I'm happy with the prices that I pay. If you're looking for a big selection and don't mind paying premium prices to find products that are worth your money Harris Teeter is worth visiting. Just to mention one other thing that I find really fun about Harris Teeter. The deli department, the bakery and the produce section almost always have free samples of their products. Ok, the only reason I shop Harris Teeter is it is convenient and their sale prices are ok. Most of their sale prices are about equal to Food Lions normal price. I shop for convenience and the fuel rewards. Well the fuel rewards, as far as I am concerned, is a scam. I don't like carrying all those rewards cards so I always link my phone to rewards cards. Well, three times now, somehow my phone became unlinked from Harris Teeters eVic and I had to contact the company. When this happens, they wipe out hundreds of fuel points I have accumulated for the month. The fuel rewards is the main reason I shop there. They can't get their act together. They also own Kroger and I don't even go there anymore. Kroger will steal your money when you order online. They will substitute Kroger brand for brand name items and charge you the price for the brand name. This happened multiple times and each time they promised a gift card that was never delivered. The need to change the name to Harris Cheater. read more

They only got 3 stars for their produce and their Boars Head meats. Skip the double and triple coupon sales; most of the high value coupons will not double or triple and then they will tell you that there is nothing they can do to help you. This is my Harris Teeter. We don't shop here for all of our weekly groceries but if I need something on the way home, this is right on the route. The prices are probably a little higher than other places but it makes up for it on quality of options that are available. Plus, if you get a VIC card, there is some money to be saved if you pay attention to the sales. The staff is always very friendly and they always have plenty of cashiers on staff so a wait to checkout is pretty much nonexistent. We have been going here for several years, almost every Friday after work, to get our usual Friday night subs. They were always so good! However, the past two Fridays we have gone, there has not been anyone there to service the sub shop. When we asked if there was someone who was able to assist us, we were told (both times), that someone would be there in a few minutes. No one ever showed up. Either this HT is understaffed, or just no one cares. Not sure, but either way, they have lost our business. When we go for our subs, we always get at least $50 worth of other groceries that we made need, but I'll just go to Kroger down the street and pay less for the extra items. This Harris Teeter is the typical grocery store. The food quality is good from the bakery, deli, and produce sections. Though the bakery could use more baked good options to match that of other Teeters. The bonus is this is the only Harris Teeter I know that has a Starbucks. :) Cons: Lines tend to be long after work and on some weekends as they have few cashiers. Many a time they do not have basic things such as fresh basil, cilantro, and other fresh produce. I have circled the section always believing I missed something but nope it is not there. No salad bar. Overall this is a good grocery store in a convienient location. read more

This Harris Teeter is located near a Food Lion and Kroger...so I think that they like to keep their stock up to keep customers happy. I have to say that the inside of the store is always immaculate, the customer service reps are attentive (most of the time) and the bakery is excellent. I've been a faithful shopper for the last five years thanks to the great produce, nice layout, and amazingly friendly employees. Last week I decided to try the online shopping feature. The site is so easy to navigate, which I really loved. My order was rather large so when I picked it up I was pleased that the associate was so polite and didn't make a fuss over the order size. After getting home and unpacking everything I realized a few items were missing. A quick call to the service desk confirmed that a bag was Left behind. They gave a credit for the amount of the items in the bag to be used at my next online shopping trip. I will continue to shop here happily and sing the praises of Harris Teeter! read more

This was the second Harris Teeter that I had been in and I really like it. They have a cafe serving Starbucks Coffee and a great selection of produce. All my friends avoided this place because they said it was to expensive. I will admit, some things are. Others are not. And some things you just won't find in other stores. I typically shop at the Commissary but the produce and meats here cannot be matched at the Commissary. I think the meats here and at Farm Fresh are the best around without going to a butcher shop such as Tom's or Centerville Meats. I cannot stress produce enough. They had lemongrass that was beautiful and bundles of fresh basil an thyme. They also have a very nice selection of beer. I went in to grab some sausage for some gumbo and they had me covered on that as well. I have purchased sale items here that were cheaper than anywhere else so if you are a smart shopper sometimes it would pay to stop in here. Last I knew they did not except WIC though. That may have changed but if you are a WIC shopper, I would check first. read more

Dear Employees of Harris Teeter grocery store, Ferrell Pkwy location; Under most circumstances I like to think of myself as a patient and tolerant person. Today, however, you have pushed my asshole button. The cashier (Jare) who rang up my purchase was at best incompetent and definitely unable to understand that his job is not just to ring up my purchase, but to provide good customer service. The fact that he refused to allow me to sign up for a rewards card prior to my purchase and would not allow me to use a temporary card (which other chains generally provide for use at registers) until I was signed up was inconsiderate (in my entitled, white girl opinion). I went to the customer service counter immediately after my purchase to sign up for said rewards card and encountered Heather, who's sparkling personality and ready smile was a balm to my nerves. She assisted me in smoothly signing up for said card and when I inquired as to the discount that I was denied at the register, she immediately called the assistant manager, Eric, to address the issue. When he arrived to speak with me, an individual unworthy of the title of gentleman stepped up between myself and the counter and plopped his beer down, completely ignoring the fact that there were other people ahead of him. When Eric stepped around behind the counter after speaking to me, he proceeded to ring up the drunken jackass instead of politely letting him know that he should wait, or go to a register like the rest of us. After which, he walked off for several minutes, then came back to call another employee, JP, to address my complaint. In all I think I spent 20 minutes AFTER my purchase was initially rung up trying to get correction for what their idiot of an employee should have taken care of in the first place. I worked retail years ago for Old Navy, before the rise of the Age of Social Media. When learning the proper approaches to customer service, we were told that for every good experience a customer has, they will tell 2 people about it and for every bad experience, they will tell 10. It was our policy to make every customer feel welcome and make their shopping as pleasant as possible. Today I did not feel welcome at all in how the cashier talked to me, or that the assistant manager put me aside; and in this day and age, with the internet at our fingertips, everyone who works a job serving others should be on point at all times, lest the world hear about it, as I am now doing. The cashiers at the grocer around the corner from where I live, smile at customers and are friendly and helpful. The employees that I encountered today at Harris Teeter (with the exception of Heather) seemed distant and irritable. While I might have done more business here due to some of the specialty items they carry, I think in the future I believe I shall go elsewhere or do without.
