I realize the educational requirements to work here are low, but at the very least, DO NOT PUT YOUR STUPIDITY AND LACK OF MATURITY ON DISPLAY. Rating the beer selection. One block from the NoMa Metrorail station on the red line. Newer store in the chic, high-end apartment jungle of the revitalized, industrial downtown. Spacious grocery store in what was previously a food desert. Beer selection is above average with Devil's Backbone six packs, Dogfish Head, Starr Hill, Flying Dog. Pretty large beer selection overall but only six packs and mostly a place to stock up for parties or for session beers. Not a hidden gem by any means, but this certainly has a decent craft beer selection. I would seek this out, but if you are in area and looking for well-priced non-macro stuff, could be your only option. read more

This is a wonderful new Harris Teeter in a fantastic location. I work on the hill and live in Eckington in the NE, and love that I can stop by on my way home from work-- made even better by the store's proximity to the Metropolitan Branch Trail, since I'm a bike commuter. I'm not sure where to begin regarding this Harris Teeter. I'm not sure that it will actually matter; however, here goes my short-short version. The checkout process is extremely slow, and most Customer Service Reps are either bored to death and check customers out as slow as possible, or they're punching keys just to get through the day. I have to admit, that each CSR Checkout person I've encountered has been friendly and courteous, I can't say the same for Managers and CSR Cashier Managers who prefer to hang out and talk, and walk every so slowly, with a scowl on his or her face if they have to walk up to a register to make a manager decision and press a couple of keys. I would say you need to change your checkout stands, or add more, because during the dinner rush, holidays... Every time I'm in there it takes forever to get through the line. read more

Way, way, WAY...better than the Harris Teeter at Kolorama, which always looks like it has been defoliated by locusts. This Harris Teeter is big and stocks way more fresh fruits and vegetables than just about any grocer I've been to in the District. The parking is plentiful and the store isn't yet overrun with crowds--though I suspect that will change as the word gets out. Is this grocer up to the standards I'm used to on the West Coast? This Harris Teeter was literally my life blood for months in 2011. I came here every day of the week for my daily sustenance. By that I mean I got their hot food buffet and ate it in the seating section. That being said, obviously the point is their hot food is AMAZING! Most days I would lay down a layer of white rice, a coat of chicken teriyaki, and splice in some steamed broccoli. The sauce is unbelievable. Grocery store-prepared chicken teriyaki sounds like a bad joke, but it is seriously so great. I'd drown in that dish and take that food coma right to work. On days when their stock of sauce was low or whatever, I'd go for their fried chicken, mac & cheese, and vegetables. So fantastic. If I was in the pasta mood, their penne is great as well! Truly amazing hot food items! The seating area to eat this stuff is comfortable and you can sit either alone against the counters/windows or with friends at the round tables. Obviously most people don't come to grocery stores for their hot food to eat on site, but I found it great. The rest of the store is extremely clean and quite enormous. There are plenty of cops as well just in case (can be a bad area). When you are leaving, there are randomly free sugar cookies at the door. I'm pretty sure they are for kids but everyone takes them. Those are also great. The lines are usually fine as there are many, many registers. Prices are what you'd expect. Harris Teeter forever! read more

The hit bar was a hit mess. It was barely any signage indicating what food was what. The alleged buffalo wings pretty much had no sauce on them. The sauce was very sparse at the bottom of the pan. The tempora roll was huge. I have never seen one that big until this evening. One tempora roll and two wingettes came up to $8.72 smh. They should be ashamed. I get this combination pretty often and I never pay that much. It was something that looked like it could be lamb roast beef. Something else that could have been chicken,turkey, pork or maybe eggplant. Idk if I'm gonna eat from this hit bar unless I'm absolutely press for any type of morsel of food. There are a few things about this place that I don't like and a few that I do. Great prepared items, the quality is very good, but it's so busy there are so many times that I can't find what I want. I've been here on many occasions where what I've wanted is out of stock. I hate when that happens and at here it happens way too often. Also they don't have the best seafood selection. I love Harris Teeter. Harris Teeter is my favorite grocery store. Anyways, I come here around 9:30 to get some groceries, load and behold they are CLOSING in a half an hour for maintenance work. Yes I get you are supposed to do maintenance work but at least you could put a sign out the door so people don't walk in start shopping and hear "we will be closing due to maintenance", when I'm half way done with my shopping. Ughhh. Anyways, the store was pretty clean from what I can tell. I basically just returned my stuff to the shelves and left for another Harris Teeter in Bethesda. I guess this shop should really think about posting notices on the door when they know they have to close even though they are 24 hours. Went in to grab a sub yesterday. Their fresh made subs are tastier, meatier, and less expensive than Subway and even Potbelly. Service: Fantastic (for me), the guy behind the counter had a good sense of humor and worked fast, but still made a good sandwich. My colleague ordered from someone different and received slow service. Luck of the draw there. Food: Very good, especially for the price. All 6" subs are 2.99 on Wednesdays (or is it Tuesdays), and they have daily deals every other day on their subs. they also had a decent looking salad and hot food bar, and the sushi didn't look bad either. Layout: Meh... the layout leaves a little bit to be desired. Cramped, and the way they flow people is not very good. You then have to weave your way around the store to get to a checkout counter or self scan station. Not very intuitive. read more

I love Harris Teeter, mainly because its right across the street from my apartment. It reminds me of a nice grocery store we had in the south called Rouse's. The selection is fine. Between HT and Eastern Market, I can usually find my whole list. I think the prices are in line with most places, and they have a fabulous wine display. I'm not incredibly impressed with their prepared food. I find it expensive, and the quality is just ok. It's nice to have the option though. The checkout lines can be horrendous most of the time. I don't know that there's a real solution to this, because it looks like about 95% of the lanes are open. It's just a busy store! But, once you do get to check out, the cashiers are generally friendly and as quick as possible. read more

I live across the street from Giant, but will go the extra few blocks to hit this H-T instead. Avoid the rush from 5:30-7 on weekdays afternoons, and everything's fine here. My comparison can be reduced to the relative merits of the scallions on offer at Giant and H-T. Giant: limp, dirty, insipid, often unavailable, if available they have none of the snap you want from your green onions. H-T: firm and crisp like Beaker's hair, pungent, abundant. I'll hit Giant for essentials like fizzy water and dish soap, but nothing organic that grows from the ground. read more

Before coming here, I was a loyal customer of the Harris Teeter in Southeast. But this place is closer to my house (in fact two blocks away). Almost 18 months later, and I still remember you, but have neglected to right a review -- my bad. I'd come here from time to time for lunch after I got tired of going to other eating establishments on the same block. It was only a short walking distance from my old workplace. Essentially, HT is a grocery store with a deli and an area that has buffet-style chow. I remember getting a sandwich from here once, which wasn't that great. The bread was tough and chewy--that made for a pretty crappy lunch experience. I usually stuck to their buffet grub because it was actually pretty tasty. My main go-to's on many occasions were there 'southern' style food: fried catfish fillets, bbq ribs, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mac 'n' cheese, etc. I do not recall there ever being a bbq restaurant or even Southern-style restaurant in any area I've been to in DC, but what they had definitely did suffice. When you pile your food onto the takeout containers, HT charges you by the pound ($6.99/LB. if I remember correctly), so it can get pretty expensive real fast. For me, I'm an obese individual stuck in a small person's frame so you can be rest assured that I had to fork up major greens to feed my inner fatman. Where does it all go?! You'd have to ask me personally. Anyways, I'd highly recommend Harris Teeter -- great store with fresh produce, buffet grub, deli, and more. Overall, I have good experiences when I shop here. There is tons of variety, the prepared foods are pretty good, and if you have special dietary needs, they have a lot of options. The staff is always friendly or polite, at worse. There are also little nice touches, like the power outlets in the seating area and the wine and alcohol selection. My only "beef" is the prices. You're going to pay a little extra here, but I think you probably already knew that when you walk in. read more

I love Harris Teeter! They have pretty much everything you could want, and I'm often surprised and delighted by what I find. Their pricing is reasonable too. The store staff are always particularly kind, going out of their way to figure something out with you, or help you find something. For a time this was the largest grocery store in the District proper. This Harris Teeter is generally clean and has a great selection of pre-made food. They also have a wide array of fresh veggies and a solid salad bar. I Pro-tip: the boneless, skinless chicken breast at the meat counter is $1.99 per pound with your Vic card- enjoy. Another pro-tip: they have a sub club, buy 7 whole subs or 14 half subs and you get a free sub on the 8th or 15th sub, respectively. can't give this a 5-star because the lines are typically pretty long. The DC Metro area was to have inclement weather on Monday 3/13 into Tuesday 3/14. In true grocery store fashion, lines were long and shelves were not prepared for the influx in customers who came come in a rush after work hours in an effort to prepare themselves for the possible snow/ice storm we were to receive. I literally stood in a line from about an hour with 2 hand baskets and a small case of 12 rolls of toilet paper because the store had run out of push carts. A store associate with a HT shirt on, came to those of us standing in line (which if you're familiar with this stores layout from the front of the store, and snaked around to the dairy section) and said we could come around to shorter lines to registers 1, 2 & 3 in addition to the 'Customer Service' line to get checked out quicker. I found my way along with the rest of the people in line (and there were about 50 of us), the two customers in front of me actually helped me the Customer Service line. Once we got to the line, a gentleman by the name of Dan; only b/c I read his name tag told us they were not taking people at Customer Service, and that we had to get back in the line where we had just come from. I told him after having stood in line for an hour with all my 'to be purchases', I was not going back. Individuals of course became upset due to the disorganization and instead of a manager stepping in to assist, I was told, "I don't know who told you to come here, but no one should have told you to come to this line'. I told him an African American light complected young lady, with a short haircut and glasses, with a black Harris Teeter short sleeved polo shirt instructed us to come. He then said, "Well I don't know who that was. I asked, "Do you have people giving out instructions with your organizations logo on it willy-nilly giving direction ?..I didn't think so"..I DID NOT MOVE. I made eye contact with the Metropolitan Police Officer on duty there so he could see what was going on, but he seemed completely unbothered. The gentleman eventually rang up all my groceries after I had to almost act completely out of character, just because I had been following instructions from a fellow store associate. All in all, I am most certainly a loyal HT customer. I in frequently visit this location, but because it was on my way home as I hastily rushed to get out of the city before the weather came, it was one of my only grocery store choice as I got on NY Ave heading into Prince Georges County. The customer service here was terrible, and this particular location was ill equip to say the least in preparation for the inclement weather. I will not return to this location and would not suggest anyone to do the same until their customer service can be improved. The sales associates need to do a better job at: -Communicating with one another regarding how to better serve customers...especially in stances where they know they will receive an influx of individuals. -Better coordinate with local distributors when inclement weather is predicted to adequately prepare shelves, meats, dairy, produce, water, and ice melt, etc necessary for customers. -Come up with a contingency plan if at all possible to assist customers whether it be gather unused baskets, assist customers to cars with multiple grocery bags, help direct traffic in the parking garage,etc. Thank you ! -Dissatisfied former NOMA HT shopper read more

Don't waste your time with this grocery store. I tried to order slices of pizza today they wouldn't allow me to get multiple slices and put it in a box I had to buy each slice individually. They said I couldn't do a mix and match on a Saturday I had to come back on Wednesday. Do not waste your time here. Conveniently located near my job. I USED to go there for lunch until I was standing in line one day and watched a homeless elderly man eat the "free mixed fruit" that was in this tall clear globe looking thing. Toothpicks were placed in each piece of fruit. He ate a piece of fruit off his toothpick and took the same USED toothpick and stuck it back in the globe for more fruit and ate more!!!!!!!! I looked down at my carefully selected food from the buffet and instantly wasn't hungry anymore! I couldn't bring myself to return. HT was closed in December for almost 2 weeks---rats/rodents, expired goods on the shelves, etc. Can't say I didn't see this coming. I spoke too soon. After living in the area a few months and making this location my main supermarket, I have had some horrid experiences here. From their terrible check out clerks who have no clue what vegetables and fruits are and punching in the wrong codes where I have had to correct them on SEVERAL occasions, to them not having any idea how to pack groceries and going so far as to break my eggs. Do they train these people? Forget about customer service, they have no idea what aisles to send me for specific items I ask about. They simply do not know their store or the products they sell. Let's move on to the stock they carry. They constantly run out of produce items. I know it's busy, but I always find myself crossing my fingers that they have ginger or snap peas on hand. I know they aren't the most popular but I expect to find them at a supermarket of this caliber with no problem. I also wish they had a bigger selection of coffee creamers. I find more selection at Target. Then my most favorite experience here: the pharmacy. I drop off my prescription and was told they had to order it and it would be ready the next day after 1pm. I come back the next day around 5:30 and the pharmacist can't find it and then comes back to me and tells me it's on back order from their manufacturer. Do you think they could have called and notified me earlier so I didn't waste my time? Also, this is a medication I had no more of and cannot skip any days....what the hell is going on here? I said, well I guess you will need to get on the phone and call a pharmacy that does have it and transfer my prescription there. Luckily he was able to transfer it to the Target pharmacy and they had it on hand. I was able to get over there and pick it up later that evening, but no thanks to Harris Teeter who failed to notify me they did not have it nor could they fill my prescription! Horrible! My main problem with this place is their lack of training of their staff. They are unfriendly and clueless. Train them! I hate this place and dread it when I have to go here but it's the closest store to us. We are seriously considering driving further out to do our weekly shopping, seriously. The Harris Teeter in NOMA was closed multiple days last week for health code violations including insects and rodents. WUSA9 did a good piece in the evening news on it. I returned today and found a homeless man eating directly from the breakfast buffet using his hands. While visiting a good friend in a nearby apartment complex, I found myself at Harris Teeter to pick up some sandwiches and sides for a Sunday brunch. Unfortunately, somewhere between placing my order at the sandwich counter and receiving my sandwich I started to feel a little worse for wear, and next thing you know, I was nearly unconscious on the floor of the store. The men and women working here were AMAZING. They were totally calm, super nice, called me an ambulance, and even let my friend and I take our groceries for free. This was certainly not my favorite grocery shopping experience, but I am extremely impressed by the way the people at Harris Teeter responded so politely and professionally to my incident. For me, HT is usually pretty good. At the Olney, MD location you can't walk a few feet without someone asking you if you need help. At this location I did have an employee ask me twice if needed help. However, he only initially approached me because I had been standing at the deli-counter for 10 minutes and he only followed up again because he completely forgot to help me after the first time he asked. Being the only person at the deli-counter with 2 employees milling about, it took about 27 minutes to get 2 pounds of deli-meat! HOW. IS. THAT. FOR. CUSTOMER. SERVICE!!! Yeahhhh!!!! read more

I love this pharmacy... I've just moved to Clarendon VA and had to switch over today... Very sad but I'm sure the new Harris Teeter will be just as great!
