Based on reviews, I expected a positive experience, but unfortunately, it was not. I had a water main break in front of my house. Harris Water Main gave me a cheaper quote than the other nationally recognized company I called, so I went with Harris. I paid 50% of the quoted amount and the crew came the next day to install a new pipe. As they left, they told me they had to return later to move a valve and replace some concrete they had to tear up in my basement, which was now a big patch of dirt. Fine, no problem. The next day, the accounting department called to ask me to pay the remaining 50%. During that conversation, I asked when the remaining work would be done, saying it made me nervous to pay 100% without the work being complete. The man immediately said "So you're not going to pay?" That was not my intention at all and I did finalize the payment shortly thereafter, but he got very aggressive with me for simply asking about the timeline. He said they actually were incentivized to complete the work even after receiving my money because by law they had to maintain the work for three years, but as you'll see, that doesn't seem to be a priority, and my fear of paying and not having the remaining work done has come true. I emailed the project manager following this exchange and was told that the guys would finalize the plumbing work "early next week" with the concrete restoration a "few days after." That time came... and went. I followed up with the project manager again (no reply), plus the accounting person (no reply), plus the main "info" email address (no reply). I called the main office, and they finally got someone out for the plumbing part at the very end of the week, but once there, that person was unable to do the work and they said they'd send someone else. I followed up again the next week after not hearing back, and they said they'd send someone on Friday (now over two weeks after the original job) for both the plumbing and concrete. The following Friday came, and the concrete person didn't show up. The plumbers did their work and left... and an hour or so later, water started coming out of the ceiling in that room. I called, and Harris Water Main transferred me to Harris Plumbing. The woman at Harris Plumbing told me they have nothing to do with this, it's a separate company, I'm not in their system, why am I even calling them... very hostile. I said I didn't call you, Harris Water Main transferred me to you to help with this emergency of water coming out of my ceiling after the Harris guys left. I called Harris Water Main back and they said it doesn't have anything to do with them. I called another plumber to come over immediately, and his assessment was that when Harris turned my water back on, it was likely done in such a way that the pressure from the water blew something else open. At the very least, you would hope for something better than "not our problem" and hostility from the receptionist. On the concrete, Harris still has not restored it as promised, after well over three weeks. I called three times this week to follow up, and each time spoke with a different person (part of an "offsite reception team," I was told) who said the company would call me back, but nobody has. This is exactly what I was worried about. I completed the payment, and the company seems to have forgotten I exist. I now see reviews from other people who had this same issue. Some were smarter than I was and negotiated to hold some money back until everything was done. I wish I had just gone with the more expensive quote I had received from the nationally recognized brand, because in addition to the other plumber I had to hire, I'm going to have to hire yet another person to complete the concrete work Harris said they were by law required to do and maintain. Right now, it's still a big patch of dirt in my basement. Cheaper than the next company, and quick to get a crew out there to fix the initial problem? Yes, but get ready for a real headache if there's anything more to be done once they've received your money. read more

This Company is the biggest Rip-off with their pricing. The Techs make their own pricing and they are more expensive than anyone else and was even told so by the tech. I had some work done and they told me about a membership that I could join. it was a monthly fee but you had free inspection and discount on service. I was told it wasn't a contract and no where on the flyer does it say that. After receiving a crazy estimate that was 1000k higher than other quotes I decided I wasn't saving money, so I called to cancel. I then spoke to the manager who said she was over membership tell me I can't cancel. I said I wasn't told that at any point and it's not in the flyer you sent me. She said they have already came out here like they didanything but inspect my two year old house. This Company is the worst and use fraud to get you to sign up for their membership. She refused to let me out even after I said I'd pay for the inspections. That this service does not benefit me. She still refused. So I wil just have my Babk take care of it. In case you are considering working with Harris Water Main and Sewer Contractors on Atlantic Ave, this is how they do business. They have left trash on the block for two weeks and they harassed me when I was looking at the trash and didn't even know it was theirs (they happened to be on the block and watching me...???) I didn't even reach out to them or 311 to complain but they started it up with me on the street like I was at fault for noticing their trash. WTH. They screamed that they "didn't leave the trash," not acknowledging that all their materials (barricades and 20 pieces of plywood strewn on either side of the street) created the environment to attract tons of trash and rats, block the drains and keep street cleaning from happening for weeks. This is a reflection of how this company does business. Not even realizing the company responsible for this was outside, I was verbally assaulted by their worker while I just happened to be surveying the trash. I was trying to unlodge some of the trash and the driver of the vehicle, who I didn't know was responsible for the trash, yelled at me, "Why are you touching the wood?!?" I was completely alarmed and the person continued to harass me about the trash they left. Only when I called the company following this interaction (two weeks after the barricades went up), did they say they would "try" to clean up the mess. They came back and are now just using a shovel to move the trash around a few feet away, which does nothing to address the mess. read more

They left behind a messy, muddy side. Elvis Paradis promised two weeks after opening to come back and finish the job, which is science fiction. You have to call interminable times to speak with the gatekeepers, Misha and Tiana, who tell you nothing, only the 100 years Harris has existed. If you want a professional job done, go with other, more reliable companies like Balkan with the bees on it. Update from my previous review- Harris let sand and dirt go in our drain when they did their restoration and we had to pay to have Roto Rooter come by to clear it out. Also, the street that Harris filled and repaired after the tap was fixed has sunken down and has a sink hole. We reported it to 311 and Harris came by to put no parking signs up to fix it. Had Harris replace my lead water main with a new copper pipe. The quote was $100 more than another company quoted me, but the warranty was longer. They charge you an additional $700 for an "Arborist" if you have a tree within 50ft of the dig. This seems like a money grab as I don't know if anyone on the crew was a certified Arborist and all they did was caution tape the tree. Charging $700 for this is excessive. The job was not easy due to the design of the front of my home. I told them to come out and do an assessment but they said they didn't need to. However, it took them until 7:30pm to finish the job and get the water back on. They crew worked very and the foreman Fredrick seemed very knowledgeable. The concrete restoration team did a good job at first site (Hoping it holds up) Overall, I think Harris is a decent company. The guys on the crew were professional and worked hard and the ladies I spoke with in the office were responsive and professional. read more

We had a problem with low water pressure. Harris diagnosed it and fixed it by replacing the tap from our house main to the city main. They're not cheap but they are generally very professional. All good. But we had to push to get them to agree to letting us retain 10% of the cost until the job was done - meaning the street repaired, not just the tap installed. Good thing! It took them 6 weeks to fix the street and to get the last of their barricades from in front of our house. Never pay 100% of the cost until 100% of the work is done. read more

These days it feels like you can only do something with constant follow-up. Harris is the exception to this norm. From start to finish, this process was as stress-free as possible. Elvis came out exactly when he said he would be here, reassured me that they would take care of it, and gave me a fantastic quote. He knew I was getting other quotes and was not worried because of the expertise and value they could offer. This company has experience and scalability making it an easy choice compared to smaller companies that just have to charge more to get the same job done (over $2000 more). There was no quality sacrificed. The workers were on time, friendly, and, most importantly, efficient. They busted their backs to get it done in 10 ft of mud in ONE day. The clean-up crew was back in a matter of days (without me having to follow up), and the concrete restoration crew was back days after that (again, without me having to follow up). They perfectly restored my home and sidewalk. I could not be happier with my experience. Even the accounting department and VP were wonderful to interact with. Don't hesitate. Harris Water Main & Sewer was amazing! I worked with Elvis and his crew. They were absolutely professional. Initially, I thought my plumbing problem was a burst, leaking external sewer pipe from my basement to underneath the sidewalk, and that 8 feet of the sewer pipe had to be replaced. The Harris team dug approx. 8-10 feet deep into the sidewalk and quickly saw that all the external sewer pipes connected to the main city spur were burst and had to be replaced (over 15 feet). They went above and beyond and replaced all 15 feet with new pipes. They got the job done swiftly and professionally. No time was wasted - the crew was courteous and did their job well. My sewer line collapsed and I needed to replace it super quickly. Harris gave me a great price, got the permits really fast, came exactly when they said they would and completed the work in 1.5 days - a half a day quicker than they estimated. They then returned to redo my sidewalk and street, and again were super efficient. I would highly recommend them if you need to replace your sewer line. read more

While repairing a water main on my Brooklyn block their workers crashed their backhoe into my parked car and left the scene. It was hit so hard the car was moved back four feet. This hit and run ended up costing almost $5000, wasted days of my life, left me with a rental car expense, and ruined my planned vacation. If I had not had a webcam in the front window of my apartment I would never have known who damaged my 2015 Subaru. How many other cars have they damaged and left the scene ? At least two workers witnessed the crash made no attempt to contact me, even though the water main work was being done at a longtime friend & neighbor's building, and most people on the block know my car. The webcam clip was discovered almost a week after the accident. After leaving them a message the owner called me to say that his family owned company has been in business for over 100 years and this is not how they operate. But apparently it is. Beware Do Not Use this company! This company came in to do our watermain in May 2018. In October of 2018, our Watermain goes again. This time they said it wasn't them but something called Electrolysis, where DC current eats away at your watermain. They call DEP and shut our water off and pressure us for money after having to come and check on the first watermain they put in. They are crooks!!!! STAY AWAY!!! read more

Had a simple yet challenging job. After the purchase of a home I found a small pin sized leak in the water main. As such a conventional plumber was not able to do the job. After having one water main and sewer company come out and give me a quote. I called Brett from Harris who was at my property within 2 hours. He gave me a full assessment, walked me through exactly what had to be done, which other companies had not. Which included getting permits and cutting a hole in the street. All in he provided me a quote that was 25% less than the others I had received. Scheduled the work within a week. On the day of the job the crew that showed up was on time and very professional. Made the repairs, plugged the hole that they needed to dig in street and finished sooner than they said they would. I had a great experience with Harris Water Main & Sewer Contractors. I had to replace the main sewer line in my house a my friend who is a contractor recommended Harris. When i contacted them (among the other 5 vendors I was vetting) they were responsive and took the time to explain the entire process to me. Additionally, they were patient! I originally contacted them in Nov 2013 and didn't make a final decision to move forward until April 2014. Even with all that, they didn't try to dupe me by changing the information provided in my original quote. The only change was the estimated start date of the job. The work crew was professional and very respectful. They took their time with the job and didn't rush at all. What i liked most about Harris is they were knowledgeable and their pricing was competitive with the other vendors I met with. What made them stand out was their customer service. Update: Our sewer line replacement was finally finished two months after signing the initial contract in December. The lack of communication from the Harris office was the most frustrating and inexcusable aspect of the project. The job was finally scheduled once we posted this negative review but the concrete repair process then dragged on for weeks. The crews who completed the job were professional and efficient; I only wish the scheduling office could operate the same way. Our advice for any future customers: Make sure the contract includes specific dates when the work will occur and that you're not obligated to write them the final check until the concrete repair work is finished. read more

I recently contacted Harris Water Main & Sewer because I was having some water pressure issues in my upstairs apartment. Someone promptly came out and assessed the job. He gave me a price and told me he required a deposit of half the price of the job. In the mean time, I discovered that I had insurance from American Water Resources. The next day HWM&S sent someone out to secure the site in front of my house, I told him that would not be necessary as someone else was doing the job. I also got on the phone with the front office and cancelled the job. I subsequently received a refund minus $500. I was told it was because they had to dispatch an expediter to get permits for the job. I was told by the Office of Permit Mgmt that no permits were ever issued to for my address to Harris. Also, there is no need for an expediter, as permits can be issued online. read more

After calling a few companies I decided to go with "Harris Water Main & Sewer" because they were the most attentive to my needs and the price seemed right. They were able to come out right away and gave me a verbal quote, which was followed by a professional written quote via email. They were able to start the job one days after I signed the proposal and finished the job in just one day. The whole team acted together and very professional. Brett even gave me a discount because they didn't have to do as much work as he originally thought. Terrible company. Tried hiring them more than a year ago to replace a water main valve, couldn't get the job scheduled in a timely fashion so I went with someone else. Made the mistake of giving them a second chance with a sewer repair a few months ago. Was given two quotes, one for a repair, one for a new sewer and confirmed by email that I would be paying the difference between the two if the repair didn't work and the job transitioned to installing a new sewer. Even though Harris was aware of the forecast for rain and chose not to reschedule their workers arrived unprepared. When the rain turned the dirt they exposed with their digging into mud they asked if we had rubber boots to lend and they had to resort to bailing water with a hardhat and bucket until a pump was delivered in the afternoon. The water they pumped out smelled like wastewater and they let it run down our now muddy mess of a driveway to pool in our back yard where it quickly developed this foamy scum on top. Told us the sewer line couldn't be repaired and had to be replaced, backfilled the pit, demanded payment and left never to return without doing any cleanup. I get a call a day later telling me they now consider the repair job and the new sewer line job completely separate and later was offered a mere thousand dollars to credit towards the new sewer line. The earlier email was dismissed as a miscommunication, my complaints and concerns were considered a nuisance, and met with intimations that they would cease to continue to work with us. Somehow word got back to Harris that I was looking for another sewer contractor and they wasted no time trying to intimidate me with the fact that they knew. Since I no longer needed them to restore the concrete they broke through to do their "repair" I contacted them for a partial refund only to be told that Harris does not issue refunds for any reason. read more

Had a flood and was really in a bind. I made a couple of calls and not only did Harris respond the most quickly, but with the best quote. The also helped me figure out the insurance piece of the puzzle. It was a disaster that I thought would take the better part of a week, but they were in and out in less than 2 days. They had some guys respond immediately to my call which was way out of business hours. They knew what to do to assure I wouldn't have a mold problem, and removed all of the disgusting damaged areas. I would use them for any size job and the owners were personally involved assuring I was satisfied. I hope the next time I need them, it's not for an emergency disaster, that's for sure. read more

I wanted to take the time to write this review for Harris Water main. I appreciate them resolving my water main and fire sprinkler issue after a frigid winter. They were able to complete the work efficiently and I trusted the workers inside and out of my house.I appreciate the most that they were able to work with me financially and understood the crisis my issue was giving me. The management was great in that aspect and the phenomenal ladies in the office were extremely personable and a true breath of fresh air every time I walked in the office. I had a great experience with Harris replacing our lead water main with copper. Took care of most everything in one day so we were up and running in less than eight hours. They filled in all their holes before they left. OK.. Can I just say that I love these people for soooo many reasons. One is, they communicate and tell you exactly what they are doing, and when they are doing it, so that those of us that may not be so familiar with construction procedures have an idea of what is going on. They are extremely professional, and they try their best to restore any and all of the premises to their original appearance after they have dug down deep enough to get to the water line. Since there are limited companies who can open the street and change a water main we went with Harris Water Main even though there were positive and negative reports websites but we hope for the best. Big mistake! This company sent Mike who convinced us that Harris can do the job but there were problems every step of the way. Starting with getting the permits, an addition $10,000 plus in cost, weeks of begging for a start date and damage to the property. They damage your property, leaves it messed-up and then say they are not responsible because of "line 3" in the signed agreement. Home owners beware!!! read more

Very disappointed with the customer service offered by Harris. They seem to be more than ready to blame the client, the landscaping, the traffic or even just day for being hectic rather than taking any responsibility for doing a job with due professional care and courtesy. Must be nice to be able to completely dictate the terms of a contract and then use that contract to bully your customers into payment and leave them with the expense of additional repairs after damage is caused. Damage to sprinklers, control box for sprinklers, lawn, other landscaping, and driveway PLUS the gas line. Additional expense will now be incurred due to their staff not returning calls as promised, just sent client to collections over 5% of the total price, and for an amount that was offered in writing as a credit. Was told credit was only for future work. Who would choose to use them for future work based on lack of care they showed on the current job?? Just thankful the break in the gas line by Harris did cause any injuries since they covered it up and did not notify my client or her tenant. Definitely would NOT recommend using Harris to and family or friends. read more
